The words bless, blessed, and blessing are found over 500 times in the Bible. A blessing, says the author, is any act of God that brings Him glory by accomplishing His will and helping His people grow and do His will. Scattered throughout the Bible are statements of blessing that we call "benedictions." In these pages, the author examines 12 of the most prominent benedictions of the Bible and helps readers learn what the blessings are that God wants us to receive from Him and share with others. In doing so, the author invites us to become "benediction believers."
Warren W. Wiersbe, former pastor of the Moody Church and general director of Back to the Bible, has traveled widely as a Bible teacher and conference speaker. Because of his encouragement to those in ministry, Dr. Wiersbe is often referred to as 'the pastor's pastor.' He has ministered in churches and conferences throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Central and South America, and Europe. Dr. Wiersbe has written over 150 books, including the popular BE series of commentaries on every book of the Bible, which has sold more than four million copies. At the 2002 Christian Booksellers Convention, he was awarded the Gold Medallion Lifetime Achievement Award by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Dr. Wiersbe and his wife, Betty, live in Lincoln, Nebraska.
This book is filled with great and deep, spiritual, truths, et, written so that the average person would understand them. God blesses us, so that we will bless others. God desires us to be benediction people. He wants us do not live in the undertow, but to start living in the overflow, and be a blessing to others. We are to be like trees, rooted in the soil and taking in water from the river. We are to bear fruit not for ourselves, but for others. God created us to be blessing;; obeying His Word in our every day life and meditate faithfully in His Word.
These studies on some of the benedictions in the Bible were interesting. I enjoy Wiersbe's content which is delivered in a more relaxed style. This was more than a shallow devotional yet less than an in depth Bible study. Overall an enjoyable read although the switch from version to version was somewhat jarring as I read. I also had not realized until this book that he was a Calvinist which should be taken into consideration.
In this book the late Warren Wiersbe takes us through the blessings of the New Testament as well as the Aaronic blessing in Numbers 6. This is such a good book with the teachings of each benediction and then the reminder that each believer should be a blessing. Reading the book made me feel as if I was receiving a blessing.
This is a commentary on the various Doxologies found in the Bible. I never knew there were so many in the Bible. He writes about nineteen but points out there are other not included in the book. Wiersbe says "we can share what the Lord has given to use and bring blessings to others." "If we are prepared to bless , God is prepared to work." "...if we begin each day asking God to make us a blessing to others, He will providentially arrange our steps and stops and lead us to people who need God's blessings."
