A BDSM-lite MMM story

Founded over four hundred years ago, Sanctus Infinitus Redemptio is a private and very elite society where dominance and submission are revered. Steeped in tradition and excellence, every Dominant and every submissive, and their pairing, are selected with great care.

When Hunter Vargo is brought into the Sanctus, his need for strict dominance sees him paired with the wrong Master. But only a short time later, mistreated and his trust broken, he’s recalled, his collar removed. The Grand Master knows it will take a special kind of Dominant to restore the sub’s faith and trust.

Sig Bruckner’s world is perfect. He has a great job, he has high standing within the Sanctus, and he has Levin, the very best submissive. When he’s asked to take on a second sub, a young man with issues and a rule not to touch him, Sig’s world is turned upside down.

When his dominance, his patience, and self-control are tested, and when Sig’s relationships with both subs are pushed past his limits, everything begins to unravel. Yet Sig knows every good Dom learns from their subs, and he’s no exception. He might not be able to fix everything on his own, but perhaps the three of them together can.

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn't have it any other way.

She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who she gives them life with words.

She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things...but likes it even more when they fall in love. She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She’s been writing ever since...

Nic Walker can write anything: asexual characters, vampires, alcoholism, butterfly hunters, lighthouse keepers, and I'm barely scratching the surface. I love that she's willing to play with genre and tropes, including BDSM in this book.

Sir is being billed as BDSM Lite, but that label doesn't entirely fit. The story revolves around a secret global BDSM society, founded in Italy in the 17th century. Three Masters are in charge and match Doms with subs. There is talk of whips and chains and safe words.

Almost every sex scene in this book is a scene in Sig's playroom. The steam is plentiful and incredibly arousing. BDSM is typically not my thing because I don't like such structured sex, but because Sig's focus is on giving his subs pleasure, not pain, the scenes really worked for me here.

I liked the MCs: Sig, the Dom, who's a doctor and a selfless, thoughtful man; Levin, Sig's first sub who is a little cheeky but mostly kind and good (too good maybe); and Hunter, the scared, scarred second sub whom Sig is tasked with taking care of for one "trial" week.

I also liked how tender and sweet the men were with each other. The conflict in the story is whether Hunter will choose to stay with Sig and Levin. Because the story is told solely in Sig's first-person POV, Hunter and Levin never evolved into fully complex characters. They both seemed one dimensional.

I didn't really buy the setup of the society. An entire village made up of Doms and subs, wholly self-sufficient economically, and no one is suspicious?

Plus, how does one go from being a sub for years to a Dom? I am not a BDSM expert by any means, but I've always thought those roles were intrinsic to one's character.

The dialogue is overly formal, which I guess was meant to mimic the structure of the society, but it struck me as artificial.

However, the epilogue paints an idyllic picture of three men in love, and I'm a sucker for happy endings. Overall, I found Sir to be an enjoyable, sexy read.

So, yeah, this was...not my favorite.
I'm still piecing my feelings together but my initial thoughts are...
I could see the premise and appreciate where this was going, but I didn't necessarily enjoy the ride.
First off, I struggled with the hierarchy of their "community".
It was like 3 kings ruled their land and matched up what they consider to be suitable fits.
Almost like arranged marriages.
And in a polyamory world where each match consists of 2 to 4 people.
And love isn't part of the equation. I was put off that love was considered a novelty.
That...bothered me.
It came across as service and not solid relationships.
Second thing, I didn't care for the changing of roles.
Subs become Doms.
Doms can become Subs.
This again felt...unsettling. I didn't care for the power exchange here.
And lastly, as much as I liked all 3 men (because I really did like them!), I didn't like how they "were".
To break it down simply, I'm not a huge ménage reader and when I do read ménage I yearn for them to all fit together...equally.
This felt like (1) + (2) + (3) = 3.
I wanted (1) + (1) + (1) =3.
Maybe that only makes sense in my head, ha!

I would have failed the blind reader test with this one...never would have guessed it was NR. Not that it was bad writing in the slightest, it was great writing, but so so different.
It was hot.
It was tender.
It was sweet.
It had a beautiful ending.
I just...struggled more often than not.

*2.5 or maybe 3 stars* (still pondering....)

2 I'm sorry but I can't give it more stars

I actually don't know what happened here... True, I've read only 2 shorts by N.R. Walker so far. But many of this author's books out there have wonderful opinions, glowing reviews and cartloads of recommendations... Hell, I have almost 20 of them on my TBR!

Those of you I'm GR friends with know that I love BDSM and generally Master/slave stories (no matter if it's contemporary and consentual or fantasy or mediaeval-ish...). But here? Everything was OTT - I didn't buy the whole secret society thing. Oh, such clandestine associations do exist and I don't deny it. In Sir the historical-religious background of the Sanctus was too much. The village full of Sanctus' members, doing everything for the Sanctus, and being somewhat governed by the three Grand Masters? And the Sanctus' villas and estates? All of it secret? Really?

The other thing nagging me constantly was the writing style - extremely repetitive (to such an extent that I thought If I read about feet apart, hands clasped behind his back, head bowed one more time, I would scream!).
The sex scenes weren't very creative - Sig using a few times Levin's favourite toys/postions... so why give us descriptions of all of the wonderful stuff in the playroom?
And also, but this is only my personal pet peeve, I really don't like when the Dom calls his submissive per "sub", I don't mind boy, pup, or even baby but calling someone simply "sub" feels a little bit too condescending to me, I'm sorry :(

And the last thing: Levin was too perfect and well-trained, Sig was too unsure and in the dark, and Hunter was too "incapacitated" - I mean I'm a real sucker for damaged slaves overcoming their traumas, but Hunter was simply... meek?

Anyway, I'm sorry Sir didn't work out for me - I had really high hopes when I came across it. Maybe other readers will like this type of an M/s story?

Still looking forward to reading some other books by N.R. Walker, especially the highly acclaimed Red Dirt Heart series ;)

I can hardly believe I'm giving an NR Walker book 3 stars, but there's a first time for everything.

While I enjoyed the overall story, the writing style felt awkward to me. The dialogue was stiff and formal, and it fit the setting and story pretty well, I think, but it didn't work well for me. It took me the longest time to settle in.

As the author puts in her Author's Notes, this book is more BDSM-lite. It is naughty, but still very sweet, as I have come to expect from NR Walker. I don't read sweet stories all that much, anymore, but resisting was just too difficult, and even though it wasn't my favorite, I did still like it well enough.

Things I enjoyed:
-- The smexy times were pretty darn smexy and definitely naughty.
-- I liked Sig, Levin, and Hunter
-- The tension was a delicious tease
-- The lack of jealousy between the subs, but especially on Levin's part

Things that didn't work well for me:
-- The writing style
-- Hunter trusted too quickly and too easily for all his baggage
-- Sig and Levin were a little too perfect for my tastes
-- The idea that a Dom could be "demoted" to sub status made me cringe

While SIR wasn't quite my speed, I do think it was a decent effort of a touch o'kink while keeping the author's trademark sweetness and I would be willing to read more, should she write it.

If you’re not into BDSM but enjoy this author’s work, don’t be afraid of this book. This is super extreme BDSM LITE. So sweet and fluffy.

Sig is a nice Dom. He lives to please his subs. No real angst and a very sweet read.

This was far fluffier than I usually like my BDSM, and it wasn't as well written as Walker's books normally are, but it was hands down one of the most original plots that I've read in years.

For me, the first three quarters of this book was spectacular. I think it went on a bit, and I'd have liked it to wrap up a smidge sooner. Still, it's a fantastic story!

The audiobook is performed by Nick J. Russo who tries really hard with the accents. Props for Sig and wide variety of the supporting cast members!

SIR is the book that I never 'accused' Nic Walker to ever write. But I was wrong, Nic writes everything :)
As you can read on the blurb, this one was a 'light BDSM', you know, typical Nic Walker.
If you're looking for a hard-core BDSM with SM , this book won't please you.
SIR is more like Sig, the Dom, whose finding his home and comfort in his sub(s) arms. Really sweet.
But not lacking of sexual encounters too. Well, it's a BDSM theme after all, it has to be sex.
And the sex in this book was scorching hot!
I really liked Levin and Hunter together, they're the sweetest subs, and of course, Sig adored them.
SIR was enjoyable sexy read, hotter that Nic Walker ever wrote in the past. You know what I mean (wink).

This is a real departure from what NR Walker usually writes. It's an interesting story...as well written and just as wonderful as any other N.R. Walker book. I was intrigued by this world she wrote about. She brings us on the journey of these two young men and their Dom, even if it is a world that is not even remotely familiar to most people. We learn of a secret society deep in the Italian mountains, formed 400 years ago. As we learn more, we find you can at least respect, if not like or want to participate in the chosen world of these characters. We enjoy watching as they grow together to form a bond that can, if carefully tended, will last a lifetime. There is also a love story.... although different then the norm, it's every bit as beautiful. I've never given a book by N.R. Walker less than 5 stars...she's a keeper for me, but the one thing that I kept going back to throughout the book was why the "Headmaster" that placed the Hunter with Sig and his sub, Levin, hadn't allowed Sig to show how much this young man had come to mean to him? Sig, Levin and Hunter all three knew that this was a learning, healing and trust placement for Hunter. They all knew that at the end of Hunter's time with them that he, and he alone had the choice if he wanted to stay permanently with them. Sig should have been allowed to show Hunter how much he had grown to love and care for him so that Hunter understood how much Sig and Levin actually wanted him to stay. Hunter needed to know right off that Sig was a Dom that was in no way like his last one. Great ending...although it was very emotional, and I had my doubts how it was going to work out.

Very little substance and a whole lot of sex!

POV from the master/sir/doctor
One established sub
One hurt new sub
Sir likes the two subs
He can’t touch the new, though
Poor Sir
Lots of training (lite BDSM)
24/7
Not dark
Pain free
In an Italian chalet
No conflict really
Not much happens aside from scenes and sex

I really do like N.R Walker's mm romances (in this case a MMM one). Really enjoyed the sweet and caring aspect of this, how the dom and his first sub feel I love with the second one and did everything for hi, to feel safe and loved.

Three men, three roles, three hearts, three needs, three desires. Three times the emotion, three times the dedication, three times the fun.

One love.

This pretty much sums up this book. N.R. Walker has always been one of my favorite MM romance writers and her ability of rendering sweet, marshmallow characters with just the perfect hint of sass is uncanny.

In this book we're introduced to Sig, our Dom who's a doctor and a total teddy bear and his sub Levin, a cheeky young man with THE BEST AND MOST LOVABLE PERSONALITY!

When Sig gets a call from his former master and to bring his sub along, they're both shocked to find that it's because Master Colton wants Sig to take on a new sub, Hunter, for the period of one week.

When Sig meets Hunter for the first time, his heart breaks. Not only does Hunter bear very old scars that criss-cross across his back, he also is quiet and hesitant, suffering from low self-esteem issues and self hatred.

Master Colton instructs Sig to take on Hunter for a period of one week, but he's not allowed to sexually touch Hunter. At the end of that week Hunter gets to make his decision whether he wants to stay on with Sig and Levin or not.

What ensues is a week of sexual frustration for Hunter where he gets to watch Sig and Levin but doesn't get to take part in any of the sexual activities with them. During this time Hunter also gets guided, not only by Sig but also by Levin, slowly bringing them all closer.

"Just know that now, when I say I will honour you both with my mind, heart, and soul, it’s with my whole heart.”

The broken boy that had arrived at Sig and Levin's home, is soon getting replaced by a boy with smiles more often and looks more relaxed. So it comes as no surprise that Hunter choses to stay on with Levin and Sig.

Hunter flourishes under his Master's love and so does Levin. The best part was when Levin finally called Sig by his name at the end. It just melted my heart and cemented my smile. Levin's playfulness and Hunter's cheekiness is complemented perfectly by Sig's amazing dominance and calm, steady patience.

Absolutely loved this book!

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

Levin had wiggled his way into my heart, this cheeky, greedy sub. I was still his Dom, he was still my sub, but he owned me. He owned my heart.

Not a bad book per se, but certainly not the right book for me. Erotica or romance with super high spice levels rarely work for me because I need more feelings and intimacy. I’m not sure Sig (the Dom) had a single thought that wasn’t sexual, and in a book full of actual sex, that’s what bothered me most. It’s a kink-normative secret society and there’s pretty much no emotion/actual love, so don’t go in looking for that, even if there’s love by the end (supposedly).

Now, I love reading about kink of all sorts, and a good D/s dynamic is hard to beat. This is really high protocol, 24/7, which was neat. What made me most uncomfortable about the whole thing is that the new sub, the third person in the relationship, is referred to as ‘second sub’. I found that distinction between the submissives really icky. I’m sure it’s just normal in their universe, but permanently ranking the people in the throuple is a great way to make sure I’ll never feel like they’re equals. Even tho the book isn’t trying to depict ‘true’ BDSM, I just couldn’t get past that part.
“Levin is my first sub, and you will be second sub for the duration of your stay. […]”

I know it’s probably just because Levin was his sub first, but Hunter never felt like their equal.

Um...wavering between 3 and 4 stars, but I really don't think I'll want to re-read so 3 it is. Felt the language was stilted and impersonal, and couldn't connect with the characters at all. Whenever Nic steps out of her comfort zone and writes something completely out of left field, I seem to have problems with the story. Evolved I wasn't that keen on, Cronin's Key and Nova Praetorian I started but didn't finish and Blood & Milk I haven't even looked at, subject matter didn't appeal. Possibly my Nic Walker reading material is a little blinkered 🤔, but I know what I like...and this wasn't it. Sorry.

This was a different type I bdsm mmm menage story to me. It's not just me, it's also the book...

Really, some authors shouldn't dabble in BDSM. Unfortunately, Ms Walker (who wrote decent books before) did and the whole plot could have been written by Barbara Cartland under influence!
The overuse of 'always' 'never' 'ever' 'heart' 'perfect' and 'love', MC's crying repeatedly, a doctor who has a job but never works, one horrible character but the rest are all wonderful, not a single surprise, a 400-year old secret society, gay BDSM tailored for straight soccer moms and the apparent ignorance about male refractory periods... all this make 248 pages of sugar overload.

I get why some BSDM enthusiasts will rate this story lower, but NR told her readers in a preface that this isn't a typical BSDM book--she was honest and direct from the beginning. But for me, this story was typical NR -- it was well written, contained a moving story, memorable characters, heart, and--as an added bonus--some sex scenes that are pretty downright kinky for NR and hot to read for everyone else. I ended up reading this book in one sitting and enjoyed it immensely. If you are a fan of NR (and how could you not be?!) then you will no doubt like this book as well.

BR with my girl Cass!

So I knew that NR Walker wrote more smutty stuff under a different pen name. But after reading a few of her sweet but yes still spicy books I still wasn’t prepared to believe this was the same person. Because wow!

At first listening I thought this was historical until I heard stuff about gadgets or cars, whatever it was clued me in that it’s present day but about a society of men (later found out about the women) who are trained to be Doms and subs.

Hunter is a new sub who was placed with a very wrong Dom who broke his trust by using his one and only hard limit. (What a freaking POS!)

So that’s when Sig, a Dom known for his empathy and care, comes in. Between him and his sub Levin we discover all kinds of heartbreaking things about Hunter. And the relationship that not only grows between Sig and Hunter but Levin and Hunter is so wonderful and sweet and holy smokes! Hot as hell!

I loved Levin, he was by far the highlight for me. He had so many dimensions from sweet and caring to bratty and saucy, plus he really was the perfect sub. And honestly I kinda preferred the relationship between him and Hunter. It felt more organic as they grew closer and at times it felt like Sig was an outsider looking in. I think some of that stemmed from Sig being the only narrator so it made him seem like those narrators in movies that you only hear but never see.

If you love BDSM and I do, you’ll love this. Although I might prefer mine with a little less structure but that’s just me being a nit picker. Also don’t expect impact play because that’s not how Sig rolls, he’s all about the praise and bondage, not to mention all the freaking orgasms. Omg so good, never pictured so many fleshlights lol.

Really if you want sweet and super smutty/ kinky go check this out!

I wish the author noted that they didn't know much about bdsm, and this was their fantasy version of the people that live and participate in 24/7 lifestyles. That would have been fine.

Where to begin..I don't think I'm gonna do a deep dive. This has so many problems. Two big things I'll address:

1) subs do not 'evolve' into doms like Pokemon characters after a certain amount of experience. Some people are 'switches', and they enjoy both roles under certain circumstances, but most people derive pleasure from being in one role or the other, in perpetuity.

2) Love is more common in bdsm relationships than not, unlike this book suggests. It takes a huge amount of trust to have someone hit or restrain or strangle you for mutual pleasure. If anything, love is more common amongst bdsm interactions than strangers just 'getting what they need'.

I could go on, I just hope that anyone interested in the scene doesn't read this book and think this is normal or acceptable. I loved that safe words were respected along with hard and soft limits--good research there--but the rest of it was utterly silly compared to what happens in the real life bdsm community.

When Levin called him Sig at the end? I swear I screamed.

I loved those three. They were just so nice and respectful towards each other?? And I really liked Sig's way of being a dom. You just know he really cared for his boys and always treated them with love and respect. I also loved the way he sat them all down to talk about things and to share their wishes and concerns. Communication, so important.

Anyway, I just had a good time with this. Levin and Hunter are the cutest and let's be real, Sig is fucking hot.

I have nothing more to add. Byyeee.

[2.5] full disclosure: i loveeeee NR Walker and jumped into this solely for completion’s sake, fully aware that as someone who isn’t the biggest fan of bdsm or ménage, i had little room for optimism.

the premise caught my attention but the origin story of their secret society had me 😬 from the very start (grooming much?). i don’t mind master/sub relationships that much, but it felt like the subs here were treated like children(?), which didn’t really do it for me. tbh i never would’ve guessed NR Walker wrote this aside from her characteristic sweetness and super light angst remaining prominent. i just didn’t feel her usual energy come through, sadly enough.

rounding up for the audiobook 😌

SIR is a sweet menage story with a BDSM overlay. I enjoyed how N.R. Walker explores the relationships among the three men, with one established couple in Sig and Levin, and then the new dynamic of adding Hunter in their existing relationship. I appreciated that the story gives focus to not just Sig and Hunter, but also to how this new Dom/sub partnership impacts Sig’s relationship with Levin. I think it is an interesting choice that we are in Sig’s POV here. In some ways, it seems like this is Hunter’s journey and so having his POV would make sense, but I actually think it really worked quite well putting us in Sig’s viewpoint instead. It helped express both Sig’s desire to protect and care for Hunter, and also kept Hunter’s feelings a little unclear to the reader. This works nicely with the story as Sig is not certain what Hunter is feeling or if he will want to stay with them.
