Two people drifting through life—one on a firmly established plan, the other with no plans at all. Both believing they know exactly what they want. But what happens when a chance encounter is so electrifying that everything they believe is threatened with destruction? Suddenly fixated on each other. Will it make them stronger? Or will everything come crashing down? An addiction so strong, the high will be unforgettable, but the inevitable low will be devastating.

Well, I couldn’t put this one down and was very sad when it ended. I loved Blake - though at times I really wanted to cause him bodily harm! Elle was wonderful and I liked the fact she didn’t give in - she made him work for it! Together they were amazing when they got their act together. It was good to see Gabby and Brandon and see more of their story. This book is a complete standalone but will have you wanting to read the Monroes!
Fixation: an obsessive interest in or feeling about someone or something. The action of making something firm or stable. Two different meanings. Two, that both apply to this story. Such a true story. This was the first thought that came to mind while I was reading it. Actually a few things came to mind. I’m so use to books with big bombastic issue that drive the story for the reader. When in actuality it’s not always the case. Everyone has their own triggers that make them act and do what they do in life. Fixation is the perfect title for this story. There are so many ways we become fixated on things. You can become fixated on people, on plans, on not doing something as well as doing something. It doesn’t always have to make sense. You may not know the reason yourself. However, that being said there is always a reason why we act or become so fixated on this type of behavior. It’s not always a bad thing but there are times you need to come to terms with it. If not it could cost you. This is the case with both of these characters.
Blake, the gorgeous, rich kid, going through life on what he thinks are his own terms. He doesn’t care what people think of him. He seems like a user in so many ways. Elle, pretty, smart, driven to succeed. She doesn’t have time for a life outside her goals. Elle has plans she needs to stick to and doesn’t want to deviate from them. Well life has other plans for these two individuals and for reasons I won’t go into because I don't do spoilers we get a very true story.
Along the way we also get to meet up with some of our favorite characters from previous books, which is always a good thing. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the other books. This is a standalone. Once you read this particular book I can imagine you’ll want to read the other books as well. Although I said it’s a relatable story you will get everything you’re looking for; smiles, angst, tenderness, snark, heat and hope!
I really enjoyed this story it touched me on a very relatable level. I think everyone becomes fixated at times. It can be anything; a movie, a book, a goal, a person and idea. Like I said t’s not always a bad thing. If it weren’t for fixations we wouldn’t have lightbulbs, Disney and every other inventions or theories. Just like a coin there’s two sides. Sometimes we need a balance an adjustment. As you can tell by this review I became fixated on this story. There’s a reason for that...it’s so good!
Warning: Contains Spoilers! Let me just start by saying that I LOVED this book. It is by far my favorite read of the year (which is saying a lot, as I am a bookworm and have read some pretty great titles this year). From the first page of Elle’s first chapter I found myself laughing out loud. She reminded me so much of myself that I was instantly drawn in. Her wit and humor make her internal monologue so enjoyable. Also, did I mention she’s a bookworm too? “Books are better than boys!”-my favorite line! It was really refreshing to see the romance novel world connections written in perfectly with the storyline. Her friendships were heartwarming and relatable and I found myself loving and hating and then loving again Gabby and Ophelia too. Blake is one you will love to hate and root for from the start. His don’t give a darn attitude and reckless partying is typical of so many guys but he shows us his other side and I found myself cheering for him as he struggled to find himself. And their chemistry? HOT, HOT, HOT! Secondly, Nicole focused a lot of the backstory on a subject that touches probably every single person alive in some way—addiction. I found it to be very emotionally and truthfully written, with so much accuracy in the details. She was able to take something that could be very ugly and dark and write about it in a way that was motivational, thought-provoking, accurate, and light. I also loved that this was not your typical predictable love story. There are twists and turns and bumps in the road, and at times I found myself yelling out loud “No!” at the characters as I was reading (you know, similar to watching a horror movie when you know someone is walking into a trap haha). There were times my heart broke right along with them. One of my favorite parts of this book (Spoiler Alert!) was the epilogue ending. Every single book I have read recently always ends the same- a proposal, a pregnancy/baby, a wedding; I was so thrilled that she chose to NOT end that way but still give us the foreshadowing and the HEA. Blake & Elle most definitely stole my heart and their story was so authentic and REAL. There were so many excellent quotes that make you think about your own life. This is a must read!!
I Loved Fixation!!! I'm mad at Nicole because I was very happy in my dislike for Blake and wanting to whoop his ass, then she had to go and work her damn magic and make me like him....damn her!! Lol I loved Elle and her spunk and her determination to achieve her goals and not allowing anything, or anyone for that matter get in her way....then Blake shows up out of the blue on Brandon and Gabby's doorstep with a shitty attitude and a whole lot of disrespect for everything and everyone around him, then he meets Elle who just so happens to be Gabby's best friend and the chemistry between them is off the charts, even when he is doing everything in his power to piss her off...and no surprise it usually works, and Elle is so damn funny when she is pissed at him and all the names she calls him for which he is in complete agreement with Lol something happens in their time together and Blake shows a side of himself that he doesn't allow others to see and that scares him, and Elle is so focused on what she wants to do and what she has to do to accomplish that she feels that Blake just doesn't fit, and would happily ruin her plans and not care in the least the damage he could/might inflict and she's not willing to risk that even if she has feelings for him. Will Blake and Elle find their way to each other and admit they have feelings for each other and work out their fears among other things that need to change or are they gonna walk away from each other? You'll have to read Fixation to find out, and believe me when I say you will not be sorry!! Nicole is amazing and look forward to what surprises she has coming next!
Perfectly layered, flawed characters that tell an emotional journey of love, forgiveness and recovery.
The sexual chemistry between Blake and Elle is scorching! I couldn’t get enough. Of course, the secondary cast is equally fantastic. I loved seeing cameos of characters from her other series as well. This is a stand-alone. Trust me, you need this book.

God I love a bad boy. I love to hate Blake, have since we met him in Brandon and Gabby’s story. But Elle is not willing to let this one pull the wool over her eyes. Nope, she goes into the fire with one thing in mind, get some of that bad and walk away. But neither one is ready for what happens when they stop walking away. This story broke me more than once but I could not stop reading!!!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. That being said I love that I’m on her ARC team and I would write the same review with an ARC or not because I love Nicole’s books. Nicole’s books are always some of my favorites to read. She has this way of writing that I feel no matter where you are in your life there is always something you can relate to or even just have all the feels for. She really goes deep with her characters and it’s always appreciated. I don’t think there’s one book that she’s written that I’ve read that I haven’t loved and recommended to my sister. This book is a stand-alone but if you’re like me you’ll want to know the back stories of everyone else so you might as well read them all, you won’t regret it.
Blake is lost and doesn’t even know it. He is living his life by partying it up any way he can, drugs, booze, not giving a crap about anything and girls. He doesn’t even realize what is to care until he meets Elle.
Elle is all about her plans. If it’s not in the plan it’s not happening. She finds herself intrigued and wanting Blake who is her besties boyfriends ass of a friend. She comes to the conclusion pretty fast that she can’t say no to him or their attraction.
Blake and Elle are awesome. I love their chemistry. Elle is just awesome in general to me because she doesn’t take any crap and does her own thing. She tries to not want Blake but sometimes you can’t control your body or mind even though you know it’s not in the plan. You get to read about their relationship, their fighting the relationship and everything in between. They are a pair that you would never think would be together but you can’t help but love. People always say opposites attract. Can Blake do what’s best for Elle? Can Elle learn that everting doesn’t need to be planned ? You should read it to find out. This was a fantastic story about love, friendship, family in the most unlikely places, second chances and finding yourself.
I loved the fact that she writes about relateable characters. Who doesn't know that guy? That guy that on the outside has it all so why is he wasting his life being a junkie? Too much money? Tortured childhood? Boredom? All of these have been guessed for Blake. When you ask him its just because he likes it. He likes the highs, he likes being lazy, he likes his drunken nights with different women. There is no reason to change his life. No plans, no exceptions.
Elle has worked her ass off for everything she has. Two part-time jobs, fulltime student, she lives a planned organized life. One that doesn't include a hot, rich, spoiled, substance abusing druggie.
They can't ignore the instant chemistry. The path it takes them down is not easy, it's not planned and you end up being the junkie devouring through it till the end
Here we go again ...😂 I swear to god Nicole’s books need to come with a warning!!
*Don’t expect to function after you finish this book*
Or maybe something like
*hey I’m nicole , I’m going to rip your heart apart whilst you read my book , but don’t worry I’ll eventually put you back together again.....🤷♀️ MAYBE!!*
I can’t recommend nicole enough when people ask me for an author that’s a must read.... She just sucks you in with every character...
I’ve been waiting for Blake’s story what seems like forever and it was everything I needed,
An addict needing his redemption from the only girl he’s ever cared about.... I loved Blake and Ellie together , they complete each other..
Loved every second ♥️
Amazing as always nicole but I’ll be honest , I didn’t wanna see your face for a couple of days after I finished 😂😂
This is Nicole Dykes best and hottest work by far. Her writing har grown so much since I started reading her books and I am always excited for what her next book will bring.
Fixation was simply brilliant. I really connected with Elle (I mean who doesn't love book boyfriends) and as much as I disliked Blake in the beginning, I know I fell so hard for him by the end. This always happens with a Nicole book boyfriend. I want to dislike him from beginning to end but its impossible!
One particular scene in this book will be stuck in my memory forever and for those that have read, you'll know the one I'm on about. For those that are still to read, what are you waiting for?! And enjoy 😉
I fell Fixation shows all the reasons that Nicole Dykes remains one of my all time favourite authors ❤
Come on Nicole every time I think the last book was the best you have to go and write another one even better !! I loved this book, really loved this book ! Blake needs a hug or twelve, he is so lost and doesn’t even realize it . Elle is the perfect girl for him she sees more to him than others do . I loved their back and forth, their chemistry their banter. Hell even their fights were hot. The story was spot on and had me completely sucked in. This book is a must so much more than a must read !
This book can be read as a standalone but does have interaction with other stories in the series. This is Blake and Elle's story and as with all Nicole's other amazing stories this one doesn't disappoint and makes you want to slow down the reading pace so it lasts longer. Angst, heartwarming and scorching HOT in parts too..... Definitely recommended by me...
A perfect, imperfect love. A story that shows you that you cannot plan or control love; love just happens even if it wasn’t in the plans at the time. 2 people, polar opposites that love, lose and have to fight ever day for their love. I enjoyed this story and how real the characters are. Home run!
Fixation ....Perfect title to this amazing story. What I loved most about this book is you get to see the characters grow. Find themselves and realize how much of their-selves affect others. Sometimes negatively, sometimes positively and sometimes just sexual heat and tension. Nicole Dykes is fabulous at writing characters that grow. Blake is an attractive bad boy ... selfish, self destructive, sexy, and floundering because he has no plans but to live off his trust fund. Elle is intrinsically motivated to make all her plans and dreams come true. She is driven to continue her last few months of college and then begin her Masters degree. Blake and Elle met before through mutual friends and Elle was not impressed. They of course have an intense sexual attraction may I add very well written with not a lot of imagination. Through their "no label" relationship, of course things happen which creates angst, anger, and devastation on both sides but an opportunity to self grow. I dont want to give any spoilers away. This book has all the feels and more. I strongly recommend this book. It is a stand alone but does have characters revisit from other series which I love. If you have not read Nicole Dykes work now is the time.
Nicole Dykes kills it again with an another amazing book!! I loved her Monroe's and Adamson's series and I'm so happy that she is continuing on with some of the other amazing characters in the books now! Elle and Blake may be my favorite characters off those two series. Blake is just a complete @$$ and challenging everyone and pushing their buttons. Elle has a plan for life and just wants to stick to it and not deviate from the path. Once these two come together all bets are off on what they both want in life and they challenge each other at every second. You literally have no idea what is going to happen next between these two and it literally sucks you in and you can't put it down till you find out! I cannot wait for the next book to come out, with the next characters she chooses to continue the story on with! I love that with each new book she puts out you still get a glimpse into the lives of the past characters and where they are in life.
Every book Nicole writes takes you on a journey of sacrifice, heartache, true emotions, love, and so much more. Blake is a guy who has no goals in life and does what he wants with no care for the around him. He is on a collision course with out even realizing it. Then you have Elle who has set goals for herself and doesn't want to change course for anything or anyone. Put these two together and they are so fixated on each other their chemistry is explosive. These two have things to figure out separately before they can truly find love with each other. I promise you will love this book and won't be able to put it down. Once I started this book I couldn't stop until the end. Fall in love will Elle and Blake like I have. This book deserves so much more than 5 stars. Bravo Nicole on another amazing book!
It was a true pleasure and honor reading this ARC. Not only is Nicole my favorite author but her books are genuine, realistic and tugs on everyday real life issues ugly and all because well it is. This great story brings two people who appear to be opposites with different lives but embark on a journey that breaks your heart because Blake is on a road towards destruction and Elle apparently has her life all planned out.... but sometimes love happens and things change....This is a sad yet beautiful story. And let's not forget the snipets with the Monroes and Adamsons that make your heart all warm and gooey in side...best series!!!
Oh my. Oh my oh my! I was absolutely fixated on Fixation! Nicole knows what she’s doing when it comes to this kind of hero. Blake was exceptional, he had me feeling as sorts of crazy, in both good & bad ways! And ELLE! Oh my gosh, I have been pinning after that girl since Unacceptable! I adored her. She held her own & took no shit. Another brilliant love story, that I will be thinking about over & over again. Book hangOVER!
*audible update* Hearing Blake & Elle come to life was amazing, Blake’s narration was perfection. Must listen for sure! I loved reliving this story. Chapter 39 still had me crying like a baby. I loved it.
I felt this book from my head all the way to my toes. As a reader I ached for these two, especially Blake. Which usually isn't the case.. usually it's the heroine I connect with.
Dykes smashed these characters! I don't know how she does it. She has all these amazing voices running through her head and when she gives them breath and puts their words to paper it's pure magic!
This is a 110% Must Read! Yes it's a standalone, but let's just be real honest here... Why wouldn't you want to start from her first book? All of her babies are golden. Don't screw yourself, just one click them all!
This was the first book I read by Nicole and I loved it! I’ll be checking out all of her other work now! Elle & Blake were so perfectly imperfect!! They both started with countless flaws and evolved and grew through the pages. Great, quick read!
“Maybe your body knows something your mind doesn’t.”
Fixation is about to dominate your fantasies and leave you panting for more! Nicole has certainly up the bar with her latest release, which follows Elle (Gabby Monroe best friend from college) and Blake (Brandon childhood friend and old party buddy).
Don’t judge me until you’ve walked a day or two in my orange Vans.
Elle has a plan for college, she knows her path to achieving her dream job in publishing and no one will distract her. Working two jobs and getting by in her apartment now that Gabby has moved in with Brandon, Elle is busy with studies to really have time to date...okay maybe the odd hook-up but still, this girl has her priorities fixed.
Until…
One faithful day an arrogant arse of a guy arrives and sets his eyes on Elle. Much to her annoyance...she may be able resistant to his charm offensive ways but Elle’s not blind to his devilish looks. If anything Elle, now has a male in mind for her next sexy read!
“And how do you wind down before bed, Elle?”
“I read.”
“I’m better than a book.”
Ooo! Ladies, will this cocksure arsehole of guy, show Elle what she’s been missing out on and leaving the books behind for his fineeee skilful body?
But in the process….will he destroy everything that she holds on to?
To be scared, you have to be capable of fear, which means you’ve allowed yourself to feel, and I don’t do that.
Blake (yes he is the arrogant arse in question) well what can I say? Rich, never had to work at anything, drifting through life and not really giving a rats arse about anything important. Turning up on his friend’s doorstep and inviting himself to stay Blake, lives in the moment and sneaks the next party to find his next high, indulging women laying themselves bare for him.
But could one breakfast change everything for Blake when he meets Elle?
“You’re mine.”
“I belong to no one.” We’ll see about that.
Blake is about to show Elle why he is much better than a book and with every moment shared they fall deeper before each of them know what is happening...but what is actually happening?
Is this smartass, dam good looking, party playboy ever going to change?
Or wreck everything and everyone around him?
“I’m pretty sure you’re going to get sick of me before I get tired of you.”
“And if we never tire of each other?”
I loved Blake & Elle…<3 I feel as though Elle will reach many readers and we can relate to Elle and her book fetish for sexy reads. Then in walks Blake in all his finee male glory, even though he makes her weak at the knees, Elle does not want to fall into his trap...then the inevitable happens and well...book forgotten. Blake may have been looking to get his leg over with Elle, but it appears fate has more than one idea when it comes to these two!
Elle is the most powerful drug I’ve ever come across.
Fixation…<3 Oh...My...God…! This book needs a warning of high risk hotness alert! Code RED! Honestly, one of the best I’ve read from Nicole and would highly recommend anyone seeking their next book hook-up. Even if you don’t know the side characters, you can still pick up their stories and how this all falls into place.
Blake made me hate him more times than I liked him. He is selfish in his approach to life, doing whatever he wants and missing his party buddy Brandon. When he shows up on Brandon’s door step, I don’t like that he doesn’t support Brandon’s sobriety. Elle is Gabby’s best friend and she has a plan. I love her drive to get her education as she works 2 jobs to pay for college while juggling her classes. She is familiar with Blake and is surprised to see him at the diner then the bar where she works. But what really shocks Elle is she lets herself give-in to one-night with Blake, an explosive night of incredible sex. There is a great battle here as Elle and Blake find amazing chemistry but neither wants a relationship. Yet, the more they hook-up, the more feelings are getting involved until they let each other down. Blake is challenging but when he realizes that he does have feelings for Elle, will this be what he needs to find sobriety? Or will he give up this opportunity for love? Elle and Blake kept me on the edge of my seat, not knowing what would happen next with this journey. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Elle has her future planned out. right now she has to work a couple of jobs and keep her classes going. She does not have not time for a spoiled rich kid with no commitment to anything. Except her is really hot and says he is better than her book boyfriends. So why not get some of that bad while she can. Blake loves a good time. Drugs, alcohol and a good party are what life is about. He tries to catch Elle but they both get caught up. What started as one time became so much more. Neither were looking but both found something great. Elle is a great character. She is someone most people can relate to and love. There is at least one Blake or parts of Blake in everyone's life. The smart mouthed, arrogant, smooth talking jerk that makes you want to do wrong. instant love for Elle. it took a couple of chapters for Blake to win me over. But once there, no moving away for me. Great story, great characters .
Fixation is the first book written by Nicole Dykes that I have read but she has written many others. The first thing that I loved about this book was the setting, not many books are set in Kansas and since Nicole lives in Kansas it was kept simple but well done. This author takes on the difficult subject of addiction with some of her characters and strongly urges anyone struggling with addiction, abuse or mental health problems to get help and not be ashamed to reach out.
The storyline and characters are brilliant! This book can be read as a stand-alone without any problem though it does mention secondary characters from her other books which if you have read them may add more depth/backstory to them. I have already started to buy her other books and look forward to reading all of them.
Blake stumbled himself to Brandon and Gabys house- claiming he is bored and needed a change of scenery.
Elle is working hard to get through college and have her dream job. She also is adjusting to living alone after Gaby moved out.
Blake and Elle are complete opposites , yet they fit together perfectly. I love how they have this attraction, this deep need for each other. Of course I really wanted to knock the crap out of Blake a few times. I really loved how the "family" stepped in when needed. Absolute fantastic read! You will love reading Blake and Elles story!
"I've been dead inside for so long I didn't know I was a walking zombie until Elle"
"Books truly are better than boys. Real boys leave."
Blake and Elle have chemistry and as we all no sometimes chemistry is explosive. Blake is a bad boy, no goals-no plans-no commitment friend of Brandon's. Seeking out his former partner of partying, he's forced to confront the fact that people, Brandon in this case, can and do choose to be better. Elle has plans and goals and no time for a shiftless, bad boy. Both find one another and ultimately learn change is inevitable. I loved the push and pull between the characters, particularly when they both deny their feelings. I was thrilled to see my favorite Monroe characters revisited. Great story.
Awe! I just need to start off this review by letting you and Nicole know her stories just keep getting better and better. I truly mean that. Blake and Elle grow together and apart. Ya, that sounds cheesy, but it’s the best way to describe these two. She’s a sober person and he’s an addict. She doesn’t think it’s a big deal. Probably because she isn’t sure if he is an addict. He is an addict though. And until he admits he has a problem...
I highly recommend this one! It can be read on its own although I do recommend reading Brandon’s and Gabby’s story to get a little bit of the backstory.
Yet again Nicole knocks this one out of the park. This book tells the story of Elle and Blake. The characters are well written, with a flowing story. Blake is Brandon's friend, and turns up on his doorstep, unknowingly or not wanting to him ask for help. Elle is Gabbys bestfriend and has plans for everything, but with Blake on the scene will it all go to plan. Loved this story heartfelt at times x
