Much better than the last volume!
We end the Captain Celebrity arc and get to see Crawler do really good with what he has learned.
Then the old Master Knuckleduster gets some backstory (he had a power!) and he had a fight with the guy controlling the living bombs (Nemu prototypes?). Anyway nice to not have someone follow the Vigilantes.
Then we get a back story with Young Eraser Head and a Young barely legal barely dressed Midnight! oh and a young yet still annoying DJ hero. I mean the story was really good, but but they are not vigilantes! they are actually at UA high getting their Hero training on so they can be legal official heroes. Bring back the nebulous vigilantes! acting like true heroes and in danger of being arrested and branded villains for actually helping out. Oh well. Still a good story if it was all legal.

All Might's cameo couldn't have been better than this! Aizawa's backstory was incredibly solid and emotional too! Best volume in the series until now!

This is by far the strongest volume of Vigilantes so far from beginning to end. If there was a spin off series of Aizawa, Yamada, and Shirakumo being buds and fighting crime I would devour it happily. Their friend group dynamic puts such a smile on my face while also making me ugly cry!

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 8 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (54–62) of the on-going manga series.

The Sky Egg is falling with Kōichi Haimawari, Kazuho Haneyama, Makoto Tsukauchi, and Christopher Skyline as Captain Celebrity, are still inside. Naomasa Tsukauchi, who is on the outside, calls Toshinori Yagi who transforms into All Might and saves the building. However, the person who would be revealed as Number Six, the one who stole the quirk of Iwao Oguro, doesn’t give up as easily and combine all the bombs into one big one, which was also subdued by All Might.

Unbeknownst to Number Six, Iwao Oguro was watching him from another building with a sniper’s gun targeting his head. However, he misses and gave Number Six a shoulder wound. The two of them battle each other and ended up in a draw.

The second half of the tankōbon focuses on a past story Shota Aizawa, who would one day become Eraserhead. At the time, he was sixteen years old and was still in U.A. Highschool with his friends Hizashi Yamada and Oboro Shirakumo. Together they get into a work-study program with Tenma Nakaōji as His Purple Highness as they battle crime together.

Hideyuki Furuhashi has written this tankōbon. It nicely concludes the Captain Celebrity's arc somewhat well with a Deus ex Machina from Toshinori Yagi as All Might saving the day not once, but twice. Far more interesting is the confrontation between Iwao Oguro confronting the villain that stolen his quirk as little information of the villain slowly trickle out. The flashback story about Shota Aizawa is rather interesting and gives some insight to his past. Betten Court illustrated this tankōbon and it was rather well done and similar to those of Kohei Horikoshi – the inspiration of the series.

All in all, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 8 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

I love this manga so much. I love how we learn more about Aizawa and his friends when they were in U.A. I love that we get a backstory even though its sad and Aizawa deserves so much love and hugs.

Overall this volume was fantastic and written so great as well.

PRINCE IS A JAPANESE SUPERHERO NAMED "HIS PURPLE HIGHNESS" AND HE LEADS A TEAM OF JAPANESE TEEN HEROES-IN-TRAINING KNOWN AS "THE PURPLE REVOLUTION AGENCY." This isn't a throwaway gag, either -- he's a major factor in this arc, revealed to be the mentor of the heroine Midnight (which makes SO MUCH SENSE) and the man who trained Aizawa Shota.

Midnight's risque-costume is even given backstory here, as it turns out she was originally an exhibitionist who wanted to fight crime naked...only to have the Japanese govt. pass a law which required a certain degree of body-coverage from heroes in response to this nude teen fighting crime. And it all makes perfect sense when you consider she was trained by "His Purple Highness" since Prince himself was well-known for adopting female proteges and encouraging them to be as flamboyant and sexual as he was in their public personas.

And again, to this side series's credit, she's been consistently presented as a long-time friend of Aizawa & Present Mic, but (despite her S&M-inspired costume & persona) without any romantic or sexual elements to their friendship. That's...oddly progressive.

Wraps up the sky-egg drama and we get teen Aizawa flashback!

The sky-egg cliffhanger gets solved pretty quickly once All Might swoops in to save the day. I like that since this is a MHA spin-off he's used sparingly, but in dire moments like this it makes complete sense that he'd show up to save the day. I also loved that he found out by Tsukauchi using his private cell and pleading for him to save his sister's life, it's honestly so sweet. This is also a moment All Might realizes he'll have to tell Tsukauchi the full truth of his quirk One for All, I love their relationship and how much they both fully trust the other, it's really sweet. Also Koichi got him to sign his current hoodie and that's legit his entire takeaway of the day, not that he almost died or had a pretty large hand in helping Captain Celebrity save them, he's such a goober. Tsukauchi does inform Makoto though that due to his huge help with this ordeal he'll let it slide that Koichi's action oftentimes lean towards vigilantism, but that due to it he can't give him the praise or attention he deserves to not encourage others to follow suit. Basically for him to watch himself and not push it to far despite that he's grateful for his help and can tell he means well, it truly is a morally gray area. I get not wanting to praise vigilantism, but I do appreciate that he sees good deeds. It's also super cute that CC's wife immediately thanks Koichi for saving her dumb husband, after beating him up, I adore their relationship. And apparently Makoto is studying abroad in NYC, so unsure when she'll be back from that. We also get a cute moment of Pop wishing Makoto gave Koichi more credit and him joking that she could praise him if she wants so badly, which just embarrasses her, I ship them so much, what can I say?

So turns out scar villain and knuckleduster are not working together, he's basically stalking him trying to take him out and goes for the headshot, but misses causing a big kerfuffle. Scar villain turns out to be a big fan of knuckleduster's past persona, which is apparently a hero known as o'clock, whose power he's now stolen. I don't know when knuckleduster lost this power, as we now know he's technically quirkless, or what happened, but scar dude, who refers to himself only as number 6, is a huge fanboy of him and wishes to be like him and surpass him, it even looks like he gave himself his scar to mirror o'clock. But apparently he's also souped up with exploding limbs and quirk enhancers and healing quirks, so I guess he's a sort of nomu as well with all his various abilities. A lot of explosions and fighting commences, but it seems like both came away as they only found traces of their blood. Knuckleduster is such a bizarre character and we know so little about and with each new nugget I'm just confused more and more. I cannot wait to have his backstory fully explained, he's so fascinating. I'm also quite interested to see who's behind number 6, as it seems like he's an experiment hence the number instead of a name, which is quite interesting. But it's clearly an overarching villain, so I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm also given the gift of a teen Aizawa flashback which gives me almost as much joy as it does sadness. Aizawa really used to struggle with believing in himself and how best to utilize his quirk. I adore we get more of his friendship with Shirakumo even though it hurts my soul knowing what happens him. SPOILERS FOR MHA, we find out that they believe Shirakumo was murdered in a skirmish with a villain while in school, something that seems to be alluded to here with the cliffhanger, much to my heartbreak. I honestly thought we had more time with him, I cannot believe it happened when he was 16, that's just so sad. But come to find out his body was taken and apparently experimented on to create Kurogiri, the warp villain who's one of Shiggy's right hand men. We don't know how that's possible or if any of Shirakumo still exists, it's also quite strange seeing here that his quirk seems to have nothing to do with warping, his quirk is manipulating a cloud-like substance. Ugh it's just so sad to see how bright and vibrant he is here and how quickly it's snuffed out. He's described as a Mirio-type which honestly breaks my heart even more since his dynamic with Aizawa feels VERY similar to Mirio and Tamaki from the UA Big 3. He immediately saves the abandoned cat when Aizawa wasn't sure enough with himself to do anything but shield it with his umbrella. He's the one who gives Aizawa the goggles he sports even today, I think I knew that but it still hurts my heart. I love that he encourages Aizawa that his quirk is perfect with tripping up villains and making it a fairer playing field and that he's perfect for teamwork leading to them proving so in their workstudy. Their agency is Midnight's mentor, who legit looks like a giant Prince which is honestly so funny, he's just as insane as Midnight is which feels right. She's also currently in her 'birthday suit' phase where she has a utility belt and gadgets strategically placed to hide her otherwise fully nude body, which is so funny. She also ends up adopting the cat, that she names Sushi which I'm pretty sure is the cat shown with her in current times which I love, and constantly sends pics to Aizawa knowing he loves it, even if he won't admit. I just adore seeing their dynamic and it looks like we'll get more with the cliffhanger of Shirakumo's 'death', but oof makes me sad just thinking about it. But I adore the backstory, I always want more of my sweet Aizawa and all of these characters, I look forward to reading on.

Chronique complète :
https://sunread26.wordpress.com/2025/...

Extrait :

This volume picks up where volume 7 left off, smack bang in the middle of the Sky Egg incident, with a cool All Might cameo! All Might is becoming a really interesting and lovable character because of this prequel series. I liked him in the main series, but here, seeing him in a different light other than a mentor to Midoriya is really intriguing. He's so sweet and caring beneath his All Might persona, and his friendship with Tsukauchi is adorable.

The Master, or Knuckleduster, finally makes his return here too, to fight the mysterious enemy that attacked the Sky Egg. A bit of Knuckleduster's backstory is revealed, showing us who he truly is--or was. As we know from previous volumes, Knuckleduster got his Quirk stolen from him, but in this volume it's revealed what happened to it, and his connection to the lightning fast villain. It very much reminded me of Syndrome vs Mr. Incredible in Pixar's The Incredibles.

We also get to see more of one of my all-time favourite characters, Shouta Aizawa. After an encounter with Koichi, Aizawa is reminded of his past, and we get a sneak peak into his days at U.A. He doesn't have an easy time, and you can see why he We get glimpses of other pro-heroes in their youth too, such as Midnight, Present Mic (Yamada), and a new character we've not seen before, Oboro.

Aizawa, Yamada, and Oboro are a really fun trio. Their personalities bounce off one another and it's such a funny dynamic. You have the broody Aizawa, the bubbly Oboro, and the loud and energetic Yamada. If we had a prequel about these three's days at U.A., I would read the hell out of it! We get to see the trio, though more specifically Oboro and Aizawa, on their work studies. Oboro and Aizawa work together for theirs, and it's so cool to see how well they fit together. Their Quirks are both very interesting to see in action. We also get to meet a character that had me burst out laughing within moments of meeting them. The pro-hero Aizawa and Oboro work under is flamboyant and hilarious. They'll definitely prise a few giggles out of you.

It leaves us on a very dramatic cliffhanger that makes you fearful about the fate of one of the kids. I have a terrible feeling that something awful is going to happen, as backstories are almost never happy. I will say, though, that Aizawa's backstory is really enthralling. The story is moving away from Koichi and the others for a bit it seems, but that doesn't bother me at all. Aizawa is one of my favourite characters in the My Hero Academia universe, so I'm glad we get to learn more about him.

Captain Celebrity's arc is coming to an end, Knuckleduster gets back on the stage and we get to see some background story for Aizawa in this one. All in all, a lot happens and I can't say that I didn't like it. Still, I'm getting the feeling that the series gradually loses its focus on what it wants to tell.

This started out as a side story with its own charming characters, low stakes and the occasional MHA cameo. Now it feels like a side-playground where more stories about MHA can be told and the main character Koichi mostly gets ignored or forgotten. Yeah, I love Aizawas backstory but it's very long for a manga that's not supposed to be about him. And I love All Might, but I was honestly disappointed when he swooped in to play Deus Ex Machina (they even lampshade this in the manga!) and take away all the tension and effort of all the other heroes.

Yes, I know Koichi got to shine in this one, but in the end, he still got sidelined. I LIKED the low stakes of Vigilantes, I love the quirky side characters like the rough High School brawlers and the slightly shady Hotta brothers. Let Koichi and co. save kittens from a tree, let them do detective work, let them solve the small cases that might be connected to something bigger. This isn't the Avengers, this is Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and by bringing in too many big names, they're just diminishing the actual story.

Honestly, all I want at this point is for Koichi and Knuckleduster to team up again and do actual vigilante stuff. (On a sidenote: I don't even know what Pop is even doing in this series as a main character? She's cute, but she obviously has no real interest in being a vigilante besides occasional support and calling the authorities when help is needed. And I'm truly tired with the storylines about her shows.)

Okay so It’s great to finally get some background on this oboro character. Not gonna lie getting a lot of naruto vibes from him, nothing bad I just like him as a character. And I also like his personality.
It’s great that I’m getting some background on him because I know how it ends and I know it’s going to hurt me.
But besides that the beginning of the volume was really good. The villain calling himself number 6 reminded me so much of Kimbley from Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood. And I’m honestly here for it. I mean the way he acts and the hair and the explosions just screams Kimbley.
Though not gonna lie when All might showed up and saved the day, yeah I was glad cuz thank god no one died but I just fucking hate all might. Mind you his character isn’t bad Per se but I just don’t like how as number six said, he’s like a janitor cleaning up messes after the chaos or violence has already started. Yeah that’s how I see him sometimes, and the fact that people rely on him so much to save the day. Like damn he came last minute and saved everyone but what about the people that tried their hardest form the beginning getting like no recognition.
No hate but I just don’t like him. Not just here but in the main series I also don’t like him a ton but that’s besides the point I guess.
Nice to see that now we know what or who master is. He used to have a quirk but it was stolen from him, and also he used to be a pro hero but he retired. I love this honestly, makes it more interesting. Though I love how he says “I’m not a hero anymore” which is right cuz he was willing to kill number six with no hesitation because what he’s doing is just wrong. I’m honestly rooting for him.
I’m actually really liking where the story is heading.
Can’t wait to read more.

4.5/5 and only because it’s unfinished.

There were two different stories in this volume and I loved both. Knuckleduster vs number 6 was cool. Knuckles is a great fighter, especially because he doesn’t have a quirk anymore and his experience with that particular quirk really helped out. This number 6 guy, cute little squishy thing, is probably a prototype of a Nomu tight? This is All For One’s doing, passing quirks on to these little beings made by the doctor. Seeing that little thing watch TV and cut his face was very funny and I can’t help but find it cute. They must have implanted it into that guy’s human body or it grew? There confrontation was very interesting and I love seeing Knuckles in action.

Then we start Aizawa’s backstory. Because I’m already caught up with MHA, I know how it all goes down so it’s very sad. I love these four and Oboro especially because I know we are going to lose him. Seeing Prince was a surprise. This part was full of joy. The cat antics and Aizawa’s moodiness being obliterated by Shirakumo’s heroics and indomitable cheerfulness. Oboro is meant to be the Mirio in Aizawa’s story and so he is destined for tragedy. I hate to see it happen but I like reading it.
