What happens when you come back from vacation to find out your dog ate the dog-sitter? And your dog isn't a dog?
The BOHICA Warriors have had some success in the Zoo, but they need to expand and become more professional to make it into the big time. Each member goes home to recruit more members to join the team. Definitely bigger, hopefully badder, they return ready to kick some ZOO ass.
With a dead dog-sitter on their hands and more dangerous missions inside the Zoo, the six team members have to bond and learn to work together, even if they are sometimes at odds with each other. Succeed, and riches will follow. Fail, and the Zoo will extract its revenge in its own permanent fashion.
Go up to the top of the page and grab Degenerates to see if our guys have what it takes to succeed against the ZOO, or if the ZOO will take what they have.
I have to say this was a hard read for me because of Thor. I lost my dog not to long ago and reading what happened to Thor in the beginning of the book was rough. But it was worth the struggle, Thor is a wild animal but his relationship with Charles is deep for both of them. The action was great and the story line was really good.
In this second story, Charles, Roo, and Booker all go back to their hometowns, in order to visit family - or not, as the case may be - but also to recruit someone that each person knows, in order to expand the BOHICA Company.
While they are away, Charles hires someone to look after Thor.
Unfortunately, the man is cruel, and nasty, and is in the process of starving Thor.
Just before the three are due to return, the man finally unlocks the container where he's kept Thor for weeks, with barely enough food, or water, to keep him alive, only to attack Thor, and try to torment him even more.
When Charles gets back, he finds the container a mess - then realises, with horror, what has happened! After looking at the camera he'd set up to keep an eye on things, he realises that Thor was only defending himself.
Unfortunately, the men in the camp won't be as forgiving, and so Charles sets out to do what has to be done.
As the new recruits settle in, Charles, Roo, and Booker start to gently acclimate them to their new jobs. Reen, the only woman, and a fellow Ex-marine of Charles, settles in straight away.
Mick, an Aborigine, and good friend of Roo, also takes to the work.
Unfortunately, Booker's choice, an ex SAS, like him, isn't fitting in as well - he wasn't actually Booker's first choice, but Booker was persuaded to let Lester go with him, due to Lester needing to leave the UK asap!
Between them getting bigger and bigger contracts, and bad feeling erupting between Roo and Lester, things are getting fraught with the BOHICA Warriors, but they are determined to build up the Company, and their reputation, whatever it takes.
What happens with the company, and each individual part of it, takes the reader on a journey into the darker side of the ZOO.
This is a great second book in this series, with some unexpected things taking place. I couldn't put it down, as seems usual for any ZOO story, and I can't wait to go on to book three of the series: Redeemables, to see what happens next.
So, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!
Good special-forces-patrol-meets-alien-jungle type action, has engaging and well developed characters. Enough details to make it easy to visualize, both the alien environment and human response.
Great characters with lots of humour and great action scenes. This book flows from on adventure to another and then sadly you reach the end way to quickly. I look forward to more from this series 😁
This is thrilling and sad. The story is thrilling but I’m sad about Thor. Why would you put Thor in the story as a character and now separate him from his human pack.
This is a bit of a tale to tug at the heartstrings. Thor has won my heart. We see the usual missions to the Zoo, although they are of course different as well, but it’s the relationship between Thor and Charles that really gets me.
Great exciting story of a group of ex military mercenaries fighting Alien animals while trying to collect samples of alien animal and plant life at a crash site the aliens have taken over
A good heart can be rewarded even in mutant alien jungles really feeling connected to the main characters and getting to know the new members of the team as well as supporting ones as well can’t wait to read more about poor Thor and Charles
