A brand new mail-order brides series from the author of Shiftr: Swipe Left For Love.
Savannah's luck seems to finally be changing when MateMatch, a secret dating agency sends her to Ragtown to meet the match they've found for her. Under different circumstances, she would have been excited for her new life. But she's been to hell and back in the last six months, and excitement is one of the many things she doesn't feel these days. She doesn't even care who her match is, as long as he's a bear and he's not mean. From the ad, single father Garrett seems to tick both boxes. The only problem? When she turns up on his doorstep, in a town inhabited by hostile beasts, he has no idea who she is, and no interest in finding a mate.
Two years earlier, Garrett Sanders made a big mistake that resulted in the death of his best friend. Tormented by self-recrimination, all he wants is to hide away in Ragtown and raise his friend’s three orphaned kids in peace. When a cute, curvy woman turns up on his doorstep, claiming to be his mate, he wants to run her out of town, but night is falling and he needs to protect her from the beasts who run wild after dark.
Crushed though she is, Savannah is determined to stay in Ragtown until she finds her mate. Living in Garrett’s house and looking after the kids seems like a good idea at the time, but it’s not long before the chemistry between the two of them drives them to distraction.
Savannah is convinced Garrett has a good heart, underneath all his growliness, but he can’t let go of his conviction that he’s a beast, and when tensions heat up in Ragtown, a side of him emerges that he never wanted to see again. Can Savannah help him to forgive himself, before his past ruins everything?
Promised: romance, heat and sexy shifters. HEA and no cheating, of course!
USA Today bestselling author Ariana Hawkes writes spicy romantic stories with lovable characters, plenty of suspense, and a whole lot of laughs. She told her first story at the age of four, and has been writing ever since, for both work and pleasure. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two huskies.
Growly bear meets his mate in rundown town of broken shifters.. 4.5 stars!
This was an easy yet fulfilling read! Savannah was a great and sassy heroine who finds her mate in a grumpy bear who thinks she deserves better than him. Garrett was such a great and complex hero, and I loved watching him slowly realize he can't love without her. A sweet, sexy and heartwarming read! ♡
I used to love to shiftr swipe books. This was just meh. I don't know if I've tired of the genre, or if this book was just that boring. It just did not seem as good as some of AH other works.
2 & 1/2 stars rounded up. The writing style was very choppy & repetitive to me. I felt that the whole thing was patched together. There are too many things that just don't make sense in the story. I never really felt the "love" between the main characters, and to be honest, she stuck around way too long considering the events taking place. The mate thing apparently isn't like in every other shifter story either, & that wasn't explained. It held my attention just long enough to end up finishing to see what happened, though I do sort of wish I hadn't bothered. I won't be continuing with the series.
At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
Good story. Loved the kids. As Savannah Olson an exceptionally bad time in her life and she was just matched to a shifter that she is having trouble tracking down. Oversimplification of the story but the author does a much better job than I! Garrett Sanders is a bear shifters who is totally surprised when Savannah shows up on his doorstep. To say chaos ensues is an understatement!
Fun first book in what I hope will be a successful series and enjoyed meeting all the characters in town.
I loved how the whole town is a hot mess and they have one person that wants to fix things. It's pretty easy to see who it is as they interact with Savannah. I did feel bad for Savannah at the start, she got bamboozled a bit. Things worked out in the end, her and Garrett building a family with the kids and their friends. I look forward to reading more in the series.
This book is match making at its best! The author added a layer of unexpected mystery to a normal match making keeping me on my toes as the characters tried to navigate the unexpected. I love the town and its quirky characters! Each one has their own set of pain, but they still manage to make life work for them. The story is entertaining and I enjoyed the drama that ensued on the way to the HEA. This was a fantastic read and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Plot: Savannah is looking for a mate and a new matchmaker sets her up with Garrett, a bear shifter who lives in Ragtown. Garrett wasn't looking for a mate, though, and he isn't shy about telling Savannah so. But he does feel some obligation to at least offer her a place to stay for a while. It's just that there's a lot going on in his life and in Ragtown, and he doesn't think she should be in the middle of that. But a true mate is hard to resist, especially when she's as persistent as Savannah.
Commentary: Lots going on in this story as it sets up the rest of the series. This is a town of outcasts, shifters who have troubled pasts or face challenges with respect to their animal selves. I liked it: the kids played a part but it was fairly seamless; tortured hero (just a little too much, but it did introduce the internal problem that all the heroes in the series will face); heroine with a past that needs resolving because it seems to keep chasing her. There's some mystery there as well, with the matchmaking aspect. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the author's shifter app series - this one seemed to have more substance.
It took a lot for me to finish this book. I knew from the moment Savannah met Florence that she was the Matematch person. There was no ine else it could be.
I stuck it out because I was over half done. Turned out to be a decent story. The premise was a little too far fetched for me. I can't believe that a woman would stay anywhere as dangerous as Ragtown appeared to be. She knew they were shifters and was warned of the dangers yet she was "determined".
Ragtown, WOW what an interesting place. So many shifters in need of a mate. This is the start of a New series by Arians Hawkes and the first book about Garrett and Savannah is quite lovely and heartwarming. Glad this couple 💑 got their HEA! Now for the other bachelors in Ragtown. Looking forward to their (Jagger, Aiden, Callen, Ryker, Brock, to name a few) finding their respective mates!
This is an OK shifter romance, with a mostly likable couple, but it was too short to have as much character development as I like. I wanted more backstory on both Savannah and Garrett, but especially on Garrett. This one gets 3 stars from me.
I liked Garrett, but thought he should have told Savannah why he was afraid to mate her sooner. She deserved to know his reasons, so that she could decide if she wanted to be his mate. Instead, he just kept telling her that he couldn't be her mate, but didn't give her his reasons for quite a while. That made her think that he wasn't attracted to her, which hurt her badly.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
There was immediate attraction on both sides between Garrett and Savannah, not that you could tell right off the bat. Savannah was under the impression that she was arriving in Ragtown to meet her match from MateMatch. When she arrived at the house where Garrett lived, however, he was confused and not interested in having a mate. He had never set any kind of profile up, but knowing it was getting late and how dangerous the town was at night, he offered to let her stay.
Not having anywhere else to go, Savannah stays in Ragtown, where she starts to get to know some of the cranky and "damaged" shifters. Except for Florence, the librarian, all of the people in town are men who are close to feral. As she gets to know them, however, she realizes they aren't all as bad as they first appeared. They just need a little bit of love and kindness in their life. Sure, they all have problems, but it's something that Florence, in particular, is hoping to fix!
Garrett kept flipping hot and cold with his feelings, which really messed with poor Savannah. When he finally apologizes and wants to settle down with her, I was in a bit of disbelief that she caved so easily. With her past and with him changing his mind so often, I expected her to be a bit more reluctant. I feel there SHOULD have been more reluctance there, but it's no biggie.
It was a cute story that sets up for more books in the future with the other characters in town. I'm not going to jump into them right away, but I may look into Timon's book sooner rather than later. He was a sweetie!
Fantastic loved it. Savannah turns up at Ragtown looking for Garrett who she has been matched to but when she finds him he doesn’t know anything about it and doesn’t want a mate. Savannah is gutted she has already had a hard life after a car accident killing her unborn child and everything she has is in the car. Garrett doesn’t want a mate but ends up offering Savannah the spare room for the night the three kids he has all take to her straight away she ends up making them pizza and cake that evening. Savannah ends up at the library looking for matematch offices but finds Florence who offers her a job which she takes. Savannah then gets a job offer from Garrett to be the kids nanny and gets a room. Savannah and Garrett get closer the more she stays but when the wolves they are trying to get out of the town get Savannah at the cafe Garrett loses control of his bear and starts fighting the wolves his friends try to contain him but only when Savannah shouts for him does he stop and run away. When Garrett comes home he tells Savannah to leave Ragtown he can’t be her mate. Savannah leaves and goes to Florence where she stays heartbroken. Garrett finds his best friend and apologise about his bear but he is sad and only when his best friend tells him the obvious he is like this as Savannah is his mate and it is worse for her. Garrett needs to go make things right and take Savannah as his mate if she will have him.
Bear shifter Garrett never wanted a mate, didn't think he could trust his beast with one. Not after all his beast had done in the past that's why he moved to Ragtown but was he really responsible? When his beast saw Savannah he wouldn't take no for an answer, but the man had long learned to keep his beast in check, but for how long could Garrett keep denying the need for his mate?
Savannah had a very bad experience with her last mate, but she really desired one, when Mate Match sent her to Ragtown for her mate she was Leary, but she was dead set on finding him. Could this hunk of a man/bear be him, especially since she would have a ready made family with 3 wonderful kids. She wouldn't have to worry about the aweful condition her accident left her with, but would she be able to convince this man that they were made for each other, or would she have to endure the heartbreak all over again?
What always baffles me about these kinds of books is the exact situation that took place in this book. The male MC did something that makes him hate himself and tries to push the female MC away.
And instead of waiting of being steadfast and supportive during his man-pain, the female goes like “do you love me?” And when he can’t answer due to the turmoil he’s currently the in, the female goes all “oh you don’t love me, you don’t care about my feelings, etc etc I’m going to leave.”
And I always end up thinking, ‘girl, not everything is about you and this certainly isn’t the time to make everything about yourself, but here you’re going ‘me, me, me’ “
Anyway, it was a quick read without any glaring editorial issues. I might pick up some of the rest of the series and see if I have a better feel for those.
Savannah had a lot of sorrow in her life then her supposedly mate rejected her. So she sought out MateMatch to find her true mate. She comes to this raggedy town, find's her mates' house and knocks on the door. The hot shifter named Garrett who answers the door knows nothing about her or the MateMatch agency. He takes her in for the night. His bear thinks she is his mate and his three children that he's taken responsibility for really love her immediately. She responds to those children with love and patience. Well, Savannah stays for more than one night but they almost don't make it together. Savannah has a positive influence on not only Garrett and the three children but also the broken shifters making up the town. After a few twists and turns, they do find love and their happily ever after.
This storyline had promise but there was so much sadness, mental abuse, pain, grief, possible rape and torture that it was not a pleasure to read. The only reason I kept reading was to find the solution to all the dark parts of story. Maybe I should have skipped to the Epilogue midway the book.
I decided it was not worth my precious reading time to spend it reading such a dark story. I will check my past purchases for books by Ariana Hawkes to see if those books are the same type stories if so then I will be prepared to avoid her books and definitely not add this author to my Author to Follow list. On the other hand I only noticed 1 typo of misspelled or incorrect word. She has talent and imagination but I just don't find pleasure reading about sadness and abuse.
It was pretty good Savannah had just gotten over a very troubled relationship and was ready to move on so she signed up for MateMatch and they had found her mate quickly so she moved to Ragtown which is a really run down town where all the broken shifters move to when they have no where else to go. The day she meets her mate Garrett he has no clue what she is talking about he never signed up for any mate. Devastated Savannah goes to leave but a friendly lady talks her into staying for a little while so Savannah gives it's a chance but she and Garrett have a lot of obstacles in their path.
This is a paranormal shifter romance, the first in a series and probably should be read in order. I really, really tried to be in love with this book as I read a lot of m/m shifter romance but this book contains most of the things that irritate me about m/f romances, mainly the consistent wishy-washy-ness of the love between characters. It was like drama for drama’s sake rather than a believable plot that he is constantly saying no while pulling her closer. I loved the kids and the librarian better than the couple and I give points for the world building but both MCs need a good slap across the back of the head!
This book was amazing! Sometimes I rarely read human x shifter books but this was top tier. I love how strong and feisty Savannah is, that regardless of her being a human and being in a town full of bear and wolf shifters she won’t be taken advance of. Her and Garret’s relationship was so amazingly built. The tension, the 🥵 scenes, AND HIM FIGHTING HIS BEAR AND DENYING HE’S HER MATE! I love that so much, the constant building until he was scared he lost her. Plus the relationship between Savannah and the kids were so adorable. So happy Garrett and Savannah got their miracle baby at the end. Can’t wait to read more.
Savannah left her broken life behind, and she received a match for a mate and a place called Ragtown. When she arrived, she had a very hard time trying to find the man she was matched to where he lived. She was very hopeful that this would be a brand new start for her. Come to find out her match Garrett and he had no intention of having a mate. He was raising three shifter kids that had belong to his best friend Slade, who had died. The story was very interesting and I liked the banter between the three children, Poppy, Opal and Holt With Savannah. There were plenty of surprises and a few twist to the story that I enjoyed.
It took a little bit for me to figure out why I wanted to give this book 3⭐. The story is good, but the problem is that we're not given enough information about the characters for me to feel anything for them. If I don't care what happens, it's not worth my time to read. There are some good parts here. Though the author did such a great job making the residents seem vicious and disgusting at the beginning that later on it was hard for me to see them differently! It's confusing.
So Savannah gets matched up with Garrett, a bear shifter but he knows nothing of the matchmaking service. She hangs around in Ragtown anyways to try to convince him they are meant to be. She had previously been in an accident and doctors said she couldn't have children but it was okay because Garrett was raising his best friends three children on his own. You have to read this book to find out what happens. There's so many twists & turns with romance, danger, action and love. A very intense ride you don't want to miss.
Grizzly Mate – Ariana Hawkes – The bar may be called Last Chans, but all of Ragtown is on its last leg. When Savannah answers a matchmaking ad to an address-less bear shifter who doesn’t seem to want a mate, you know chaos will ensue. Good thing the local librarian hasn’t given up on the crazy men in town who could all use a second chance (and some gainful occupation). Cool world building but a strangely abrupt end. I’m thinking book two will continue the story of the meth making wolves (did I mention gainful employment?). Happy Reading!
Savannah travels a long distance to meet her mate only when she finally locates him in a broken down town where all the houses look alike and no numbers are on them. Savannah holds up a picture of what his house looks like, that’s the only thing she has to go on. When Garrett opens the door and she explains she traveled all the way here because he’s her mate on matematch. Garrett has no idea what she’s talking about. They both try to fight their feelings to each other. They end up falling in love. Great story.
Quick and easy, it does it's job as a shifter romance. The conflicts in the book are a bit superficial but I would read the next books in the series.
Summary: Savannah just got out of a bad relationship and puts all her hopes into the bear shifter she got matched to on MateMatch. The shifter has no idea what she's talking about when she turns up at his house but she soon finds a job as his nanny and romance ensues.
