A Simple Courier Assignment: (an adventure)

Rate this book
There are other Worlds. Not other planets in the skies but other Worlds separate from ours with different beasts, different plants, different peoples, different magic. You may discover this when you take shelter in a nook, a grotto, or some other hidden place. There you experience a sudden feeling and the landscape outside changes. You have just passed through a Gate. There is no going back. These are the annals of one such traveler. He will tell you the rest. My name is Odo fitz Gilbert, Associate member of the Mage Guild in PenAnnot. I was given a simple courier assignment by the Archmage. Take a package containing necromantic scrolls from here to the Mage Guild in Halston, in another World. Come back using a spelled amulet. Get paid. Be quiet about it and destroy the scrolls if anyone other than the Guild tries to get them. I’ve done missions like that dozens of times. Easy. Not easy at all when too many people are looking for a courier, nightmares trouble my sleep, and black beasts attack in the night trying to take the scroll case. I have no idea who compromised the mission. I am going to find out, even if it kills me – and it is beginning to look as if it might.

This is book two of the series, but I accidentally read it first, and loved every moment of it. Books being what they are, I was not in the least surprised that the "simple" assignment turned out to be a bit more complex than advertised. The story is a fun read, with enough richness of detail to make one feel like one is there, and I can't help but adore our hero and his approach to life.

A thoroughly enjoyable read!. A bit of politics, a bit of magic, some wit, and a tasty amount of world building. i

The characters are just real enough for a good yarn, and yet fantastical enough for a genre reader. Well done again.
