After everything that Kara has done for Asgard, she thinks they will let her participate in the honorable jobs of the winged Valkyries. She is wrong. Instead, Odin is determined to take Elan away and make her dragon his. Whether he’s a god or not, she isn’t going to let that happen. And of course, Elan can defend herself. But then Elan disappears.
After several searches, Kara grows worried. She hopes that Elan is visiting her mother, not somewhere more sinister.

This was a fantastic continuation of the series! I love how the plot is progressing, and seeing the bond between dragon and human develop. I've not read the "How To Train Your Dragon" books, but I've seen and loved the movies. If you loved them as much as me, you'll love this book!
*NOTE: I was given a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This fact has had no influence on either my opinion of the book, or the contents of this review.
kinda loved it, in spite of the setting(i'm typically averse to another school setting n the usual that comes with it), but this one grabbed me pretty much from go-got me right there(repeatedly). her tenacity did surprise me this time, because, (damn)how bold can a schoolgirl get. n the ever increasing injustices, indignities, challenges-still she perseveres. at times I was reminded of pern, by one aspect/you'll see(or not/but I won't explain it here)
Oden is not happy that Kara helped the winged valkyries. In fact, he is so unhappy that he orders her to give him her dragon. When she refuses, he threatens her. Her friends, though worried for Kara, are so fascinated with her dragon that they want their own dragons to fly on. Some of the captive dragons seem somewhat amenable to this, but after being imprisoned and mistreated for so long, they aren't about to make things easy for the girls. With hints of a dragon and wingless valkyrie alliance, change may be on the horizon!
Naga, the young captive dragon who talks like a baby was adorable, even if he did shoot fire every time he sneezed. Drogon, an older captive dragon, had reasons to mistrust the valkeries. Elan was magnificent. There were several occasions where we got to see her acting like her mother, and it's hilarious to see how excited she gets when she successfully scares humans since that's not really her personality.
This book had a bit less action than the previous book and more strategizing/trying to figure things out. I'm looking forward to seeing where book 3 takes us.
I received a free ARC from the author and have reviewed it willingly.
This intrepid MC is undaunted by the never ending obstacles in her path. Two of her friends also feel the same way about their own purposes in life. Determined to change not only their fates but also the fates of the enslaved dragons, the support each other through the adversities trying to hold them back. Even if it means standing up to the Gods.
Excellent story well told. But as with the first book too short. Books 1&2 should be all one book. Otherwise no complaints. The story kept moving without a lot of being verbose. Believeable characters, easy to identify with characters, growing situations that are relatable to almost everyone, even us old folks. Good book for any age who like this genre of fiction. I recommend.
Katrina is now one of my favorite fantasy authors! I love this series so far..Norse mythology, dragons..what’s not to love? I really like the way she develops the storyline and the characters..such a unique spin on a dragon rider story!
I love how the story progresses from here, a lovely continuation from book one... Plot and themes ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Character analysis ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ World building and writing style ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Following directly on from the events of Chosen, this takes the foundation laid there of a rebellious wingless Valkyrie and her dragon. Kara's mission to prove herself must wait as something more disturbing happens; her dragon Elan goes missing. Her search will reveal just how much the 'alliance' between Valkyries and dragons is hurting dragons, and how far some will go to push it even further.
Kara really comes into her own in this book, freed from the need to set out the world of Asgard the story can show her as a feisty, headstrong but steadfast individual, willing to follow what she believes is right even if that goes against authority. And thanks to the evident plight of the dragons, the reader is on her side as she attempts to overturn years of injustice.
The other characters are developed too, from her friends to the school bullies to Odin himself. Asgard is a fantastic (in every sense) and clever setting for the story, providing tropes and characters that are familiar whilst never falling into cliche or predictability.
As with Chosen, this ends with the reader wanting more. So my advice would be to invest in book 3, Scorned, before finishing this one so that the story can be continued.
Quick, exciting addition to the series and I'm loving it.
This book starts right after Kara and Elan risk their life against a frost giant to save a winged Valkyrie. If she thought the head mistress and Odin would appreciate her efforts, she had another think coming. They are furious. Kara introduces Hildr and Eir to Naga (the playful blue) and Drogon (a young brown). I absolutely LOVE Naga. He is so playful and easy going. Poor baby has a cold and almost fried Hildr several times. She was not amused.
Elan comes up missing after Odin demands Kara turn her over to him. Kara is determined to find her friend no matter what. This looks to be the beginning of a huge battle for the girls and their dragons. This is a quick read but full of suspense and excitement.
I love Naga and Kara! In “Vanish” Kara, a wingless Valkyrie has proven her worth, but the winged Valkyries and Odin don’t care. Kara is ordered to turn over Naga, her dragon to the winged Valkyries. Will Kara do it? Or will she disobey Odin's order? Will Odin and the winged Valkyries accept Kara and the other wingless Valkyries as equals? This is a well written quick read with wonderfully interesting characters. This is a story well worth reading but read “Chosen” first or you will feel lost in the story. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily
This book was fun to read . The determination of the wingless Valkyrie to become dragon riders to help protect is a nice touch to the story . Happy reading everyone
