IN THE SHADOW OF THE SERPENT Micah Abrams has been transformed. No longer the bully who tormented David Donner, he faithfully follows a divine mission to spread hope and healing across the ashy wastelands of the Pacific Northwest. But when Sera Donner is taken from him once again, doubt comes prowling for Micah’s own soul, and he’ll make a shocking choice that changes everything.
Running from an enemy he once believed couldn’t destroy him, adrift in a lawless land where people will do anything to survive, Micah must come to grips with a God whose power is perfected in weakness. Can the fledgling prophet’s faith endure? Or will the darkest time in human history drag this chosen one of Yahweh to destruction?
I think these are really interesting and well written books, but I think I’m going to have to DNF it here. I don’t think I’m the intended audience for this series. This one was just getting way too gory for my personal taste 😬.
This second book in The Goliath Code series read as quickly for me as The Goliath Code. Ms. Leonhard goes in a slightly different direction with her books, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved that this book focused on Micah, one of the 144,000 sealed Jewish men chosen to be prophets of God during the tribulation. I find it a welcome, fresh storyline. And her characters, main and supporting, are well fleshed out, detailed, believable and likeable... or not, equally well. Sometimes I think that those of us who enjoy reading fiction set in the Tribulation period are a bit off; though we know who wins the war, it will be an ugly time- and yet it will be shot through with golden strands of miracles and salvation despite the ugliness and horror the enemy and his army will throw down. Though Jesus is my savior, we're told that no one knows the hour of His coming, and no one knows when the trumpet will sound and His chosen will meet Him in the clouds. I certainly pray the Church will be removed before the 7 year period of the Tribulation. Reading works like this encourages my study and reinforces my joy that during the worst time on the Earth, there will continue to be people saved and brought into the Kingdom of God. People like Sera and Eli will be terrified with their families in Heaven. There is hope in the darkest of times and places. Pick Prophet up and read it ( get The Goliath Code first!! ). It's well written, thoughtful, and Ms. Leonhard is a terrific Christian author.
The story deepens through Micah’s point of view in this second book of The Goliath Code series. Micah wrestles with what he really wants and what he’ll have to sacrifice if he obeys God’s leading, and we glimpse significant pieces of his backstory, as well as how he thinks, feels, and makes decisions. I love Micah because he’s a real guy facing difficult dilemmas and internal conflicts. He also has this unique relationship with and calling from God. Watching him navigate these things, learn who to trust, and make hard choices makes for an exciting story. I didn’t think I’d like the change in point of view (from the first book, which is in Sera’s POV), but being in Micah’s head gives me a new angle on the story, and I ended up liking him even more as I read his thoughts/feelings. He is sensitive and responsive, but still so masculine, handling tough situations with gritty strength and courage. The situations he faces, the memories he works through, and the challenges he overcomes are woven together in a darkening story that fleshes out what it likely would be like to live through these dark days mentioned in scripture. I was surprised to find I liked this book even more than the first! Highly recommend!
While this is still a really interesting portion to the Goliath Code story I actually enjoyed the first book in the series more and was a bit disappointed that the viewpoint switched to Micah. The abrupt ending is the kind I intensely dislike in a book, regardless of whether it’s part of a series or not. Despite those two factors, for others that appreciate a biblically-based take on a post-apocalyptic story, this one is worth listening to. (Just make sure you’ve heard the first book in the series first).
Extra: domestic abuse (!), violence & bullying, discusses a child/adults that had been harvested for ‘protein’, cursing and the occasional swear word (no f-bombs). Some churched followings feature (a prosperity doctrine scammer, spotlights faith-based v works based beliefs).
Oh my goodness, I could not put this book down! Suzanne Leonhard has done a marvelous job creating and expanding upon the characters in both The Goliath Code and Prophet. Just when I think I’ve figured everything out, there’s another twist. I don’t know how I’ll be able to wait for book three!
This book has plenty of biblical references and inferences to the end of times without coming off as preachy. As I’ve read the Goliath Code and Prophet, I’ve begun wanting to study the book of Revelations once again. Thank you for what you do, Suzanne! I am looking forward to reading book three as soon as it is available.
I loved reading this long awaited book. I liked reading about Micah but it was a little repetitive. Really wished for more of Seraphina. Just hope it does not take years to learn of her journey. There were some terrible deeds by men, and moments of joy from the Word of God. The repentance was heartfelt and familiar. And I will not describe the beach scene, just have to read it.
This is one of those books that absolutely difficult to put down and to get impatient for the next book to be published. I couldn't read fast enough to find out what was next! I love the way the author gradually brings in Biblical prophecy to whet the interest in what the Bible says will happen. It's one of those fiction stories that one could see really happening sometime in the future. - which cam be very scary if you aren't saved.
I did not put this book down until I finished it! Been.waiting since The Goliath Code for part 2. I really loved Micah's story of finding his way again and fighting thru his grief. This is a great Christian story of love, redemption a d finding your way again thru great adversity. God is always there whether you want to belie e it or not! Read this book!!!
This is a real tearjerker for this of us who are Christian's. A virtual Bible study thanks to the author's study of the Boble. A real pageturner especially since we know how it ends and trying to figure how the author does it. Be sure to have your Bible handy to verify his references. You will be blessed!
She made the characters very real and got you So interested in them That you felt like you knew them. This is a very different end of times that I've read so far as it is not taking place in Jerusalem.Never the last the characters are very real and seem like friends and or neighbors. Can't wait until the next book!
I have a bad problem of quickly tiring of a boring book and reading the end. Never a problem with these two books. They have compelling characters, interesting and human. It amazes me the author showed how God uses the flawed humans he so loves to achieve his purposes. Read the books, they are great. Take the message seriously. It’s a blessing.
The Goliath Code was excellent but the Prophet is a book that I literally didn’t want to put down. The backstory of Micah is very interesting and I sat up late into the night engrossed in what was happening and unable to stop reading. I can’t wait to see what’s in store in the next book.
Absolutely loved this book! Hated to come to the end but looking forward to book 3 . This isn't my typical genre, however, once I started reading the story. I couldn't stop. Well written!
Fantastic read! These books should be a must read for anyone interested in this genre. It goes far beyond ones expectations. Leaving one with answers as well as questions about why we are here and what comes next.
It was spellbinding! It brings into mind the possibilities of the Tribulation and what could happen should we not accept the Lord as our Savior and God! And how He will see us through!
The End Times are coming as we speak and the world will become a much darker place. So the need for heroes will be even greater then in days past. This series is about those heroes and the trying times ahead of them.
Read this in one sitting and cant wait until the next book is out! Very inspiring and the scenario is not as far fetched as even a few years ago. I highly recommend this series!
Great book. I've loved reading this series. It has suspense action and mystery. I was hanging off every word. I've thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as the first book in this series.
I zipped through book one and two, and hoping there will be a book 3? Couldn't hardly put these two books down! Some of the best post apocalyptic books I read!!!
I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed the two books in the goliath series. I can only hope that there will be more coming out. I highly recommend it
