She slugged the last colleague who dared put his dirty lips on her. Dr. Samantha Cullen is a general surgeon who performs best in emergency situations. Known as the 'emergency doctor', she doesn't give up until all options are exhausted for saving a patient's life. But Dr. Cullen has a problem with men who can't keep it in their pants. Her ex-husband was one such man - handsome, sexy and a womanizing pr*ck. When transferred to a new hospital, she takes one look at Dr. Devlin McCarthy and knows he's trouble. Her mission is to stay clear of him, but those darn eyes keep drawing her in. Fighting against what her heart wants will be one hell of a conflict. But she must keep him at bay, if only to save herself from involuntary cardiac rhythms.
Carolee is a passionate writer whose life revolves around creating a world she can revert to when life gets in the way.
She always knew she would be a writer. Her teachers and the school librarian noticed her knack for story telling from an early age. With their encouragement, she continued to allow her imagination to come to life.
She spent most of her adult life dreaming of writing her own novels while working a 9 to 5 job. With determination, she quit her job and now concentrates on writing full time.
Writing is her passion and without it she feels incomplete. Carolee writes from her heart, from her soul.
In addition to writing, there are absolutely four things she cannot live without; chocolate, good ice-cream, cheesecake, and coffee.
Enjoyed reading this, it made me smile. Love that career-wise they are on the same level and are equally driven. Relationship-wise completely opposite, he's determined and patient in his pursuit, love that about him. It was nice to read about the couple and how they learn and grow without the extra drama from other envious characters. Samantha is not playing games and is very mature & frank when displeased. :)
This author writes as though she respects reader's time. This story gets right into the story and holds your interest. I Enjoyed this medical romance and will continue to read her work. Recommended.
But the relationship was far too short. We were halfway through before they even had a date. They barely had any serious conversation. Her attitude was also far too abrasive for me. She was so judgmental, as if it’s his fault that he is beautiful. She wasn’t even trying to know who he was. The story about her transfer was a bit of her let down. Yes he intervened but it’s not like she wasn’t worthy of the opportunity. People get promotions for all sorts of reasons. On top of that he never tried to get anything in exchange so I’m not sure it was worth a blowup. Shame, the story could have done with being more fleshed out. As an aside her disdain for business was annoying because without money (or a donor) you cannot treat anyone. Also my personal pet peeve, her slapping him.

I liked that there was just enough back story to allow the reader to get to know the characters, but not be bogged down with needless details. The author led us through the journey to love, speaking in both the hero and heroine's voices. I like that it gave depth to the story. The pace of the story was fast and steady. This was a tale that could be read in an afternoon. Samantha and Devlin's journey to love is a fun speedy tale that can be enjoyed in an afternoon or over a weekend. Lovers of medical romance would definitely enjoy this book.
Delving and Samantha were wonderful together. She took patient care to the exact meaning of the Hippocratic oath. Dr. Delving needed to heal from old wounds in order to become the best cardiovascular surgeon he could. I loved her passion and drive to do everything she could because they were a person, not money in the pocket. Delving loved that about her and was willing to ask for help. The execution wasn't a good idea but his heart was in the right place. I liked it but wanted a bit more before it ended. There were too many things brought up that were not resolved. The difficult topic of suicide was handled well but there needed to be the closure.
The story between Samantha and Devlin is a cute, coworkers-to-lovers slow build romance. Samantha is a dedicated ER doctor, know for not giving up on patients and Devlin is a cardiac surgeon who excels in his field.
Overall, it's a sweet book with no real angst. My only grip is that this book was not properly edited before being released. There are numerous spelling and grammatical errors that should really have been caught before publication. Besides that, the story is decent.
Samantha is the perfect doctor anyone would want, she is smart, independent, hard working, and her own person. She is weary of men thanks to her ex. Devin is self-aware, determined, persistent, and getting over heart ach due to his ex. The two learn they have what the other needs. This is a very good story, a quick read with realistic interesting characters. My only complaint is the poor editing. I expect better for any book released in its final form.
A car and mouse tale between Samantha and Devlin who are both doctors at the same hospital. I get why she was reluctant to have anything to do with Devlin but she was clearly attracted to him. She kept him at bay for far too long. Thankfully, Devlin had the confidence and persistence to deal with her rejection and in the end showed her that they had much more in common than she would have thought.

Brilliant book, great story line. Hailey is a strong woman that does not take nonsense from any one. Along comes Devlin and he has to work hard to even get her to look at him. Lots of action between them but in the end it works out. Five stars from me.
