A Science Fiction Adventure Romance

When it comes to his mate, there are no rules.

Get the target and go.
For by-the-book Aeden that's how its always been. How it'll always be.

But then he finds her.
Clever, adaptable Myria.

Her scent drives him, tempts him to forget the mission.

And there's no rule book for this.

One hundred years of strife between feuding warlords has dragged the Fringe planet Kerrend back to feudal times.

Which would be someone else's problem, if one of those warlords hadn't managed to kidnap the new Emperor's favorite great-aunt.

And since no one wants to disrupt the fragile peace, she'll need to be retrieved stealthily.

Get in, retrieve the old lady without starting a war, and go.

No where in those parameters is there room for a snarky guide. Certainly not for having to pretend to be her lover.
No room for  the way her voice ties him into knots.
How her touch sets him on fire.

When its time to stop pretending, can he let her go?

Played is the eighth science fiction romance novel in The Star Breed series. No cliffhangers, no cheating, HEA guaranteed!

I would easily give this book 4 1/2 stars.
I love a book with a good story that just makes sense. The love aspect in this book is great. It builds, it seems real. The have conversation like adults, go over plans, argue over should the female go or stay but she included. For it to be book 8 and I’m rating it so high and am glad that I read it really says something about the author. Fabulous work. Would read this book again and the author as well.

Aedan and Myria so good so much fun.😘

The Star Breed is my favorite Elin Wyn series. I love the alpha male hero's of each of these books. Lyall's wolves are the Crazy brilliant doctors genetically engineered children. Strong, smart fast and incredibly loyal. This is Aedan' s story. He ends up being tasked to find Prince Vandalor's aunt who has been kidnapped on a backwater planet called Kerrind. There has been much unrest and many wars on this planet so much so that technology is banned from use. The kidnappers want forbidden tech in exchange for the princess. Aedan, sets down on this planet and the action starts he runs I to a travels hard named Myria shebeautiful, smart and very headstrong with secrets of her own. She notices right away that Aedan is different and offers to help him navigate this world to complete his mission. Neither one is 100% truthful with the other because others lives depend on them, but they can't deny their hiring not attraction. I don't want to give to much away but there is a ton of action, a bit of mystery several misunderstandings and lots of passion. It is an excellent installment to the series. And I highly recommend reading this book💖💖 I can't wait to read Quinn's book next!

Nothing is as simple as it seems

I'm this Star Breed novel nothing is as simple as anyone thinks.
Vandalar ask for the Star Breed's help rescuing his great aunt and having her returned to the capital before his coronation where the ailing Emperor, his grandfather, will abdicate. If not destruction will follow.
Aedan is elected to go he loves straightforward task, get in get out.

“Kerrind has been off the Imperial radar for almost one hundred years. The only contact we’ve had with them was before I was born. One of their warlords came to court asking for weapons.” He ran his hand through his hair. “My grandfather sent them away without an audience. I don’t think it was the best idea. Apparently, they spent the next couple of generations tied up in a civil war that sent them more or less back to the Stone Age.”

Complication 1. Nothing on the planet is as simple as they think. Not even the clothing needed to fit in.
Complication 2. Maria

“None of this is quick, or easy,” I said. “The whole thing is a tangle, and your grandfather’s fault in more ways than one.” I pointed to Jomu.

Aeden is on a mission to find Prince Vandalor's aunt who has been kidnapped and being ransomed. He's the kind of person who sticks to the rules and is completely focused on his mission but when he meets Myria all bets are off as she is his mate. Myria is very knowledgeable about the planet, the gangs, the way they live and so she determines that it is much better for them both if she helps him. In order to both travel as inconspicuously as possible he poses as her husband and as part of that sparks fly between them. Can they find the aunt and get her back without making a fuss or will everything fall apart? What will happen when their search is over and can Aeden let her go?

I really enjoyed this story which felt much more like an adult story with romance, conversation, shared responsibility and a true partnership between them both. Myria was really feisty and certainly not backwards in coming forward - I loved her! This was a great read and in some ways more enjoyable than some of the earlier books in the series. I loved the ending and I really love the way that Prince Vandalor is actually very astute and able to think on his feet. Contains explicit sexual content.

I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.

I'm really happy to get back to the Star Breed series (enjoyed the Conquered World series, but this is my favorite).

Aeden was a great character, a very by the books guy thrown into a world where nothing is what he is used to. Myria was a great balance to him. She didn't just give into his whims, but worked with him. They had their conflicts (something to be expected with such strong personalities), but they still worked well together. I thought the world building was interesting in this story, giving us a world that was more feudal in a science fiction story takes balance, but it worked well. There were also a few twists to keep the plot moving and intriguing.

I do wish we had gotten a bit more of Aeden's brothers in the story, but there was a least a few parts to help with catching us up.

Good read and interesting characters

This is a good story with interesting characters. The male and female leads were perfect for each other. It’s there journey together to save the Princess that makes up the bulk of the story. I didn’t read this in order, but I would suggest that so that the reader could understand more fully all the details and occurrences. It’s a cute romance. Read On!

Great story

Space faring aliens go to a world out of medieval times! One of the pack falls head over heals for a female bard. Intrigue, secrets, and a few surprises along the way- and a giant t-Rex like creature! Lots of good stuff! A fun adventure.

So cool to read about a backwards planet in the midst of aliens and spaceships. I love how this series is progressing. The romances are fantastic and the stories in each book are full of twists.

Dark Ages to Space Ages

This book finds a technology banned world struggling when a Warlord tries to hold all the tech in his power. The characters are thrust into a mini war over lost Princesses and traveling Bards. Only to triumph in the end.

I enjoyed the concept of the tech ban to keep the peace. The traveling bard was right out of fantasy rather than sci-fi, but the story plot supported it well. The storming of the castle made for good action and some lighter moments.

This is a book of one man’s quest for power at the expense of others, of betrayal to the person he was supposed to be working for. No price was too high if was something he wanted. But it’s also about all those downtrodden people he put down and their fight to get back members of their families stollen from them. Add to this mix a brave, loyal, smart female and an incredibly strong, fierce fighter and you’ve got all you need for a love story and a fight for what’s right.

This was my favorite of the Star Breed series. I enjoy the sci fi aspect of the series, that is what drew me to read them, but this story takes place in an old fashioned, more fantasy-esque world that could have a whole series onto itself. News is passed from person to person via minstrel-types in taverns and there is a horse-like dinosaur species friend that steals all the attention. Imaginative and wonderous premise.

Ah I love this series so much!!! I instantly loved Myria's personality. She was determined and capable and so was Aeden. They made a good pair together because they had each other's backs when needed. It didn't take too long till they gave in to their feelings for one another. As to be expected from this amazing series, Played has plenty of excitement, danger, and twists you won't see coming. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
