Davey's Rules #5

Rules to Ignore

Rate this book
Davey’s Revised Rule #1: A good Daddy will love his boy with all his heart.

Davey Hendrickson doesn’t mind being forever single when he’s got his bestie at his side. It’s not that he wants to be single. He’s spent most of his adult life searching for his own perfect Daddy. Even if he’s not naturally submissive, someone that fabulous is obviously meant to be a boy… right? Over the years, he’s dated every type of Daddy imaginable but not one of them could come close to meeting the requirements from his ridiculous list of rules.

After losing his husband, Sammy Robustelli has learned to be strong while raising two children on his own. No matter what life has thrown his way, nothing seems too hard with his best friend and roomie Davey at his side. When the two friends learn that people believe they’re a couple, they can’t help but laugh. The very idea is a big joke... until it isn’t.

It only takes a few wake-up calls before Davey wonders what happens if a guy might be in love with the best friend he can never have. It could never work for a pair of boys in need of a bossy top, right? Except… maybe Davey doesn’t know himself—or Sammy—as well as he thinks.

This is the final book in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book.

One of my favorites in the series.

-----------------------------

I really liked this!

I thought it was brilliant to have Davey, who always considered himself a boy in need of a daddy, find out he might be a daddy himself.

We've known Davey from the first book, when he started making a list for the perfect daddy. It seemed like no daddy could live up to his rules though. So Davey remained alone.

He didn't have much time for a daddy anyway, since he was living with his best friend Sammy, who needed help raising his kids after his husband died.

Sammy and Davey have been best friends for years and are so close that everyone thinks they're a couple. But Davey thinks everyone is being ridiculous. Especially when people start mentioning to him they think he might be more of a daddy than a boy. He is way too fabulous to be a daddy, isn't he?

But if he was a daddy, then that would mean he and Sammy would be compatible, since Sammy is looking for a daddy.

But a fabulous daddy and a big muscled boy wouldn't fit, right.....?

This was really sweet. I was wondering who Davey would end up with from the first book, and I was really glad he turned out to be a daddy. He was way too bossy to be a boy!

I loved how Davey had to adjust to seeing himself in a new light. Even though everyone around him already suspected he might be more of a daddy than a boy.

Davey and Sammy were incredibly close, so the leap from friends to lovers was not that huge, and I was glad there was zero angst to be found anywhere.

Nice end to this series, and I can't wait for the spin-off.

It was interesting to see the Davy we have watched and love through the series start to question everything he thought about himself. His friendship with Sammy and their closeness is reinforced at the beginning of the story. As Davy starts to except a new self view there is also a shift in how he views his relationship with Sammy as well. It was satisfying to see them come together and begin to make something new.

A sweet and delicious cherry on the top of an absolutely perfect series. Rules to Ignore, the seventh (and final) book in Susan Hawke’s Davey’s Rules series just couldn’t be any better! Davey finds his perfect match, and Sammy gets a happy ending… gah, I’m in heaven right now.

I’ve enjoyed the entire series in audio. Beautifully performed by Michael Dean, he's brought the Davey's Rules characters to life. Sassy, sexy, and sometimes sad, Mr. Dean has embodied the essence of these men. I'm thoroughly charmed.

While this is the end of the Davey's Rules series, Ms. Hawke promises a spin-off and I can hardly wait!

It pained in my heart, I started the final book of this absolutely fabulous Daddy/boy series.
I can spoil there will be more because there will be a spin-off (yes, YES!)

All these books are just the best!

So here we are, dear dear Davey who never found his own Daddy. With all those rules it seemed impossible but, fasten your seatbelts because oh my goodness!

Davey has high self-esteem, he thinks he’s fabulous (I think he is right!)
Sammy and Davey are besties, living with Sammy and his two children Milo and Samantha was a natural thing.
The world around them think they are an item, they laugh and laugh about it.
They are just the best princess and diva together.
When Davey and Sammy got a sort of reality-check they put every card open on the table like the open and honest guys they always are with each other and oh my, that was something special! They gave me goosebumps and a thick throat.
This final installment was everything!

A series with a lot of bratty attitudes, amazingly fun and humor, heartbreaking moments, moments with laughter and tears, a series with quite an emotional charge, overwhelmingly dedication and determination and unconditional love!

Highly recommended!

Daveys book finally. And what a book it was with all the sass and drama you expect from Davey. And Sammy, you were just the perfect hah he was so cute I wanted a hug from him!

I do wish they didn’t spend too much time laughing about the fact they could have been a couple. It was a lot longer before they became and item.. or longer than I liked haha

Also a lot more drama with Samantha Jade than expected but made sense to make it more realistic with family life!

Now on to the short stories that are like extended epilogues!

This was a perfect ending to a serious -- better than anticipated, I have to say. I wasn’t too surprised about these two ending up together but I was surprised about how perfect they fit together. Between the actual friendship between the two, the relationship they build together and the steamy sides of things -- I couldn’t put this book down. This has to be hands down my favorite in the series.

If you’re looking for a book where two people fit together beautifully, a daddy dom who shows it isn’t always who you expect that make the best ones and a lovely hea.

I chickened out of reading book six because I know how that one ends, instead I consoled myself with Sammy's next love.

No surprise to anyone who has been keeping up with this excellent series that Davey turns out to be the perfect match to help his best friend move on.

I loved pretty much all of this with just one tiny niggle, every time a certain phrase was used, I just had an outbreak of the giggles.

I'm not sure whether that's not actually what was supposed to happen anyway, because it suits Davey down to the ground, bit it was a bit much in the end for me.

The rest of the book is a joy, as all tells Daddy/boy pairings are still going strong and being wonderfully happy.

Interested in where the spinoff series is going too.

I KNEW IT!!!! I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!
When Ms. Susan was talking in her group about this being the last book and telling everyone to look for clues, I knew how this was going to turn out. I didn’t know the intimate details, obviously, because every daddy/boy or BDSM relationship is different. But I knew how it was going to turn out and who was going to be who. And I have to tell you, I could NOT be happier about how it ended.
Obviously, with the blurb, I’m not giving anything away. You want to know how this turns out. Read it. I just know this book made me so happy. It couldn’t have turned out more perfect for two people than these two. It’s more than a second chance, it’s a realization into themselves. It’s seeing beyond themselves and the roles they put on themselves, to see each other and themselves as they really are and have been all along. And for two people without a clue, to finally see what everyone else knew all along. It was actually quite humorous in a lot of ways. Because of what they had to go through to get to where they needed to be. There’s so much I wish I could share because this was absolutely my favorite book of the series. It really is. Because these two are so special. And especially if you read books 6 and even book 1 and so forth to see how this all started and progressed, you will know why they are so special, so cherished and so loved by everyone. Even in diva mode.
That’s all I can really say. There are some tearful moments, a few scary ones, some downright hilarious ones that made me laugh so hard, I spit soda out of my nose. I mean….ouch. But the thing with this book, it’s not just about second chances or love. It’s about family. Not always blood family, but the family we choose and love with all our beings. It’s the people in our lives who are always there during the good, the bad and the ugly. And still loving us at our lowest. I can’t wait for the spin-off, considering on who it’s going to be. And I’m SO glad I’ve got to be here on this journey.

A sweet friends-to-lovers story. We have seen Sammy and Davey get closer to each other over the last books, so them advancing their relationship was uncomplicated and nice. I like how there was no Eureka! moment of "wow, now I suddenly feel all of these things, and this kiss is the best I've ever had because he's my best friend". There were some natural hiccups and a feeling of coming home rather than a big explosion, and that just seems so relatable.

I utterly adore this series and I'm so glad the Davey finally got his HEA. It's been a long time coming and his book did not disappoint.
I love the warmth, love and humour of this series and not only if Rules to Ignore full all of those things so to does Davey. He's absolutely one of my favourite MM characters lately. If you've read the rest of this series (which you must must must if you haven't already) you'll have seen Davey develop as a character. He started off as a boy who had an ever growing list of do's and don'ts that a good Daddy have in his repertoire. By the time we get to Rules to Ignore Davey is in a very different outlook and loved the twist.
I'm so happy that Sammy gets a second shot at HEA. He deserves it and him and Davey together are just yummy!
I'm really sad to see this series come to end. But I think there's a spin off so I hope the boys and this daddies we've come to love make some cameo appearances.

Okay, so while it’s true I’ve only discovered this series this week, I was so excited to see that Sammy gets another chance at happy because he deserved it so much. It broke my heart when he lost Raph, so I was just waiting, hoping for something amazing.

Then Davey… it’s hard to find words for him. He’s one of a kind, that’s for sure. Determined to find his own Daddy, we’ve gone through this whole series with the hopes that he’ll eventually find him by the end, right? …. Didn’t quite go down like that, did it? Though I’m so happy that within finding himself, he did it with his best friend and beautiful soul, Sammy.
I loved seeing him step up and help Sammy raise his little family. I adored their friendship and I feel like it’s exactly what they both needed, to give Sammy time to grieve and to learn to be okay with moving on and finding love again. He’d been with him since the very beginning and it was perfect.

The only thing that I didn’t quite understand, is that Davey has run a kink club for what, 10-15 years now? And he doesn’t understand the logistics of the different kinks? How? I only know what I read in books like these, and you’re telling me that he thought that big guys were tops and little guys were bottoms and alllll kinds of other stereotypes that are so ridiculous that I’m like, what?
Davey, who was probably as open-minded as they came and had claimed to have seen every kink in the entire world, especially at his club, and had never seen a leather Daddy be a bottom, or the big jock guy be a bottom or a big guy like Sammy, be submissive??? Never? I found that so incredibly hard to believe and his ignorance on the matter was just…. Not right. I don’t know how to explain it, it threw me for a loop. Annnnnnd, while everyone else saw Davey and Sammy as a couple, it never, in all the years, occurred to them that they loved each other? But once they opened their eyes to it, it was like, oh yeah, and they jumped right in? I just didn’t buy it.

Another thing that bothered me was Samantha Jade… that girl, at 12 had one of the world’s worst attitudes, she was a disrespectful, BRAT… one that could’ve given the old Preston a run for his money. Now, I have a 14 and a 15 year old, so I’m not one of those parents that shame other parents, or one of those people with no children trying to tell other people how to parent… but OMG, how can you be so good at disciplining Sammy, but Samatha Jade? That girl deserved a smack in the mouth MORE than once, and she’d have been grounded for about a year, had she been my daughter for sneaking out in the middle of the night at TWELVE…. Wow….

Aside from those two things, I did love seeing Sammy and Davey give each other a try. Not only was it extremely hot seeing Davey flip flop and switch up to a Daddy, though I did have to try to forget how he was in all the other books because seeing him as a Daddy was just…. Weird after 7 books of seeing him as a boy. Diva Daddy also didn’t quite work for me, but… to each their own, I reckon.
I dunno, I hate to be so prickly about it, because I was so so excited for this story, and in a lot of ways, it really worked for me, but in other ways, it just really didn’t. I’m on the fence. I also really hoped to see something great happen with Ethan, though I was glad that Davey helped him, I wouldn’t mind seeing him get a story, whether a spin-off or whatever, I bet he’d be so cute!
So, while this one didn’t work for me as well as the other ones did, I will say that I’m glad that they both got their HEA, I really did adore Sammy so much. ♡

4.5 Stars!

I've been waiting for this book since I met Davey in book 1. He's a force of nature and very determined on finding the perfect Daddy, but what happens when Davey starts to see he went about this the wrong way and he might be Daddy material himself? And what if realizing this opens him to possibilities he'd never entertained before with his bestie Sammy?

This book was pretty much as amazing as I had hoped it would be. The progression from best friends to lovers was very realistic, all things considered, and the chemistry was definitely there. I was very glad that everyone but them saw it, it made for some very fun scenes.

Davey was my favorite character in the series and Michael Dean did justice to him from book 1 until this last one. He captured Davey's essence and joie de vivre perfectly. There were a lot of characters in this book and keeping them straight (LOL) was easier with Michael's voices and the way he just brought them to life.

This is definitely a book you need to listen to, just don't forget to read/listen to all the previous books first. ;)

I’ve been looking forward to Davey’s story. His diva personality shined throughout each book in the series and I was always curious to know, what sort of daddy he would attract.

The author took a different approach with Davey which was unexpected but in a good way. Davey is at a crossroad: one direction takes him on the journey he thought was always meant for him and the other pushes him to dig deeper, to become something he never even considered.

Sam and Davey have a wonderful relationship. They have each other’s back and support each other through the good, bad and the ugly. Watching these two navigate through their feelings, grief and even Davey’s misconceptions about whether he can be a daddy when he’s a bottom: was intriguing yet realistic.

I cried when Sammy remembered Raph’s last words to him. His words captured so much emotion and unconditional love.

Davey’s story was well worth the wait. Davey got his HEA with the person I least expected him to end up with. Sam rightfully deserved a second chance at love and Diva Daddy was perfect for him.

OMG I love love loved the book so much!! It was perfect and really worth the wait!! Davey finally got his happily ever after and broke all the stereotypes. He just won the number one spot in my list of my favorite fictional Daddy Doms and I don’t think anyone can ever take it way from him. Honestly, words are not enough. The book was funny and steamy and sweet and even heartbreaking at times. Davey and Sammy are perfect for each other. I enjoyed every word. And like Davey would say I have cartoon hearts in my eyes after reading it.

Everyone needs a Davey in their lives!  Cute and sassy and takes no crap – but does he actually need a Daddy? This is the story we all needed to have – it’s been building up through the whole series and it couldn’t have been better put together. This just goes to show you that sometimes you friends can see what you can’t – and you need to listen to advice.

What a great conclusion to this series and I will agree with many others that I was expecting something like this, maybe not quite this but similar.

I loved watching how Sammy and Davey got even closer in Jeff’s book and this is a few years down the line where they have now basically been roomies for a few years and have been raising the kids together during that time. I loved the resolutions this book had, though many a time I wanted to slap Davey for how much he stuck to one point and didn’t listen to what others were saying. I don’t want to give everything away but it tied up the series nicely.

I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review.

At Last!

I’m glad that Davey finally gets a chance at love with his best friend Sammy. I enjoyed this unique storyline. Davey is funny, sweet, silly, smart, and fabulous but so is Sammy. That is how life is sometimes when what you are looking for is right in front of you. There is enough drama along with romance and sexy times to make this an interesting and fun tale. I love this whole series, it was very witty and cleverly done. And let’s not forget to thank the List! :-)

Davey discovers his truth (an audio review)

Davey’s Rule # 28 – Daddy is responsible for killing all bugs. Especially hairy spiders.

Raphael Robustelli was a great daddy. He and his boy Sammy had a beautiful relationship – from the moment they met they were destined to be together. Eventually they had two beautiful children, married, rescued Raph’s nephew Jeffrey, and lived a charmed life. Until the moment it all fell apart and a heart attack ripped Raph from his family. Devastated, Sammy, Jeffrey, and the kids slowly moved on, but it was a tough go. After a few years, their friend Davey moved in. Ostensibly because there was a flood in his condo. But that was two and a half years ago and Davey has stayed. He’s become a member of the family. He’s become a co-parent. He’s Sammy’s best friend.

Despite this, the men are genuinely surprised when they discover all the parents at their kids’ school have figured they were together. The men are open with their affection and teasing, but they’re just friends, right? Because if there is one thing they cannot be, it’s a couple. Under the façade and respectability they show the world, both men have a Daddy/boy fetish. Not exactly something you share at PTA. It means that when Sammy tries dating, he’s failing partly because no one will ever replace the Daddy he lost. It means when Davey goes out with Daddies and it doesn’t work, he’s just not met the right one. Or, as their friends surmise – Davey and Sammy need to be together romantically. Stop the presses. Since they are both boys looking for daddies, that’ll never work.

Or will it? As Davey ruminates:

Even though I had always been serious about my list - and positive about what I wanted - it had almost been more about the chase than the reality of what a relationship like this would entail. Sure, it was fun to prance around being fabulous and calling other men ‘Daddy’, but that was just my inner flirt coming out to play. How had I missed something so simple? Why hadn’t I understood that a Daddy and boy dynamic was a true partnership with each giving the other what they needed as well as the trust that went along with it? I liked men big enough to toss me around, and assumed that naturally meant I needed to be bossed by them too. Jiminy Christmas, Preston was right. And Adam. And Cameron. S-t. Being a daddy or a boy had nothing to do with size. Or age. Or fabulousness. It just meant wanting to be the one to nurture and protect your partner. And even if Sammy was big enough to protect me, that wasn’t the kind of protection he needed anyway. No, Sammy was strong enough to fight any battle. What he needed was a Daddy who would shield him from other things that might hurt him.

A moment of clarity. There are a few more, to be sure, but they all work. This book fits together all the missing pieces. Fills in the blanks. Makes everyone whole. Now, I recommend having read Making Rules before this one because it helps make the transition believable. Realistic. Giving rise to the Diva Daddy in all his glory.

Davey’s Rule # 53 – Daddy shouldn’t be afraid to let his boy top.

I loved this series and am sad to see it end. There are hints of a spin off and I already like the characters lined up. I adore how Ms. Hawke can create a world with so many interconnections and relationships. I love how she brings joy and a bit of heartache. Losing Raphael early in the series brought me to tears, giving Sammy his happily ever after in this book brought me joy.

I’ve said many good things about Michael Dean, but they bear repeating. His talent is on full display as he helms this series. And although the books are great, Michael brings a new level of emotion to the stories. Also, his reading of the list of rules at the end of the book is worth the price of admission. I’m sorry this part of the story is over, but I’m so glad to know there’s more to come.

Blurb:

As a reader of the whole series that precedes this book, I was so ready for Davey to get his very own daddy, or maybe his perfect HEA isn’t quite what Davey has always thought?

Davey and Sammy are BFFs that house share and work together to give Sammy’s two kids the stability and love they need to grow and flourish after the loss of their father. Sammy has had one great love of his life (and a wonderful Daddy) but he’s ‘okay’ going it alone if he has his best buddy with him. Then he decides maybe he could start dating, and living his life again.

How odd that people often think Sammy and Davey are a couple! They can’t really be a couple if they are both looking for their perfect Daddy, or can they???

This is such a fun read and I was so, so ready for Davey to find his perfect guy, even if that wasn’t quite what he’d always thought.

Davey and Sammy are so cute together that my teeth hurt. It was such a sweet and funny voyage of discovery and I enjoyed every word.

The writing is engaging, funny and so adorable, it was just what I needed to get me over a reading slump. The dialogue is cute and the characters are just so adorable it was just great.

I was given a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
