The Earth is dying. Her people have fled. And Mitch Ayers is having a real bad day.
Fifty years ago, our home was dying. We identified worlds that might be able to support human life. We built Ark Ships: huge colonization vessels carrying thousands of crew. And we set out, not knowing if we could make it to the other side of the blackness, or whether there would be anything there if we did.
Mitch wasn't supposed to have to care about any of this. He was supposed to be happily dreaming in stasis for another twenty years. That's until he wakes up on the Ark Ship Nansen, three light years off course, staring right up at the barrel of a gun. All around him, he hears the screams of the dying. Terrorists are wiping out the Nansen's crew while they sleep, and he's the only one who can do a damn thing about it.
But ain't that always the way.
Mitch knows the Nansen's crew might be the only humans left in the universe. The problem is, he quickly learns that humans aren't alone in the stars. Aliens aren't just out there, they're everywhere. And the first one he meets tries to sink its teeth into his neck...
Mitch is a long way from home, and it's not just the aliens he's up against. It's the traitors within his own crew.
Now humanity's fate rests on his shoulders. So he'll have to think fast...
I completely enjoyed this book. When you wake up after being in stasis for years and there’s complete chaos around you, there is only one choice. You have to hit the ground running, and that’s exactly what Commander Mitch must do. This is a story that grips you from the very beginning and keeps you turning pages until the last one is read. As more dangers face the crew, both from inside and out, messages from home will leave them all reeling. Not a good spot to be when there are enemy ships approaching.
A bit dystopian. The Global government sounds like the sort of thing the carbon tax people are pushing for. The biospherists could be Greta’s philosophical progeny. The story was interesting but seemed not quite as polished as I’d have preferred. It touches all the right things but seemed a little off to me. The protagonist is different; a hero inspite of himself , in the right place at the right time. Told in first person, which might be why it was a little off to me.
Solid book, good story. Could use a little more world-building, and us Humans area bit TOO lucky on a regular basis, but I want to read what comes next in the saga...
Obviously the first in a series, will buy book two. And since Amazon demands ten more words, the last three...😉
Mistakes: I didn’t find any mistakes in this book. Plot: Colony ship, terrorist, aliens, parasites, space battles, and a lot of time spent reading about the MC’s past. Characters:You spend a lot of time inside the mc’s head. It helps to make him more real. You spend so much time in his head that the rest of the story felt like background filler. 6.5/10
I liked it. It is a common theme in Sci-Fi, but you can always improve on a variation. The challenges were different and the solution was unique to say the least. It could be compared to winning free Haagen-Dazs ice cream for life. Thanks for a GoodRead.
A good read you will enjoy from beginning to end as it's none stop action that has you gripped from page turn to page turn. If your like me you have it on scroll you are constantly moving the page up as you just want to read non stop.
A bad day isn't even the half of it, this story will wrap you up and take you on the ride of your life. The characters are very well written and the twists and turns will keep you guessing and wanting more. I really liked this novel and look forward to the next installment.
Book 1 had errors throughout and was a fun read. Overall i liked the book. The book started strong and then leveled off on suspense, but was fun and interesting. The plot and characters developed well and were fin to learn and read about.
After spending several weeks reading nothing but military sci-fi this is a great change. The story is not your typical colony ship story. It has an interesting twist to it. I hardily recommend this book a now, unfortunately, I have to wait for the next one.
I read this for David as one of his ARC readers I totally loved it but it ended short of the end so have read it again and totally loved the storyline. Looking forward to book two which is next on my kindle already lol
This is my first time reading a book by these authors, and I will continue. This grabbed my attention and kept it for the entire time. There is so much going on,warp travel, aliens of several types and space battles..on to book 2.
Unique and different, solid characters, plot keeps moving, science that works. Kept wanting to read the next chapter to find out what happens. Good book!
