Discover the amazing survival skills of the sea's most fearsome predators. Here are thirteen of the world's most amazing meat eaters of the sea - from the all-time favorite, the great white, to the chilling little cookie-cutter shark. One is huge. Another is small. One has a giant snout or tail or head. Another has tiny horns or little skin flaps. Readers will learn how each of these traits - big or little - helps a particular type of shark survive in the fish-eat-fish world of the sea. Sandra Markle teams up with world-renowned marine-life photographer Doug Perrine to give young readers an entertaining, exciting introduction to sharks.

Ahh, we are such shark fanatics in our house. This book has much to offer...including great photographs. The girls particularly enjoyed the one of the diver swimming next to a whale shark (it eats plankton, not people). This title also shows some sharks that aren't run of the mill...including Spined pygmy shark, Cookie-Cutter shark, Swell shark and a lemon shark (being born nonetheless). Includes map of where sharks live in the world, glossary and other resources.
Fascinating book about various species of sharks. Different characteristics (methods of eating, body types, means of protection and/or concealment, etc.) are highlighted as are some common features, like denticles on the outside of their bodies (rather than scales.) The big, colorful pictures are wonderful and the narrative is just descriptive enough to be educational without being overwhelming or boring. We were able to read this entire book at one time, which is often a feat with these non-fiction science books. We also enjoyed looking at the map at the end to see where the sharks photographed for the book were located.
I love sharks. This book is another of the series of shark books my Papa checked out for me at the library. Mama loves libraries. We have used ours a lot!! So many cool shark books.
