A really nice and quick summary of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s life. I had read about him before in Eric Metaxas’ “7 Men” book and this was a great reminder of his life and legacy. I read the Adolf Hitler book by Hourly History last year, so this was awesome to read about one of Hitler’s most outspoken critics. With all the unrest around the world as well as those misfortunate, Bonhoeffer’s life is a lesson in putting God first while loving your neighbor as yourself.
Even when he knew it was a death sentence to do so. It is difficult to be this authentic. But it is also a testament that needs to be heard and appreciated by all.
It's a short biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, I was very curious to learn more about him. He was man of faith who stand against the Nazi. A good example to fight for the truth and trust in God in every circumstances.
There is much to admire about the life of Bonhoeffer and this book gives you a taste of that. Ultimately it is hard to discern certain of his beliefs but this book has no monopoly on that issue. Whether is is the language barrier, the culture barrier or what-have-you I am unsure. Sometimes he comes across as a solid Bible believer but then he associates himself with a school that is opposed to that correct point of view. Still, the basic history of the man's life is covered and covered well for such a small volume.
This brief fascinating Biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer is well done by Houly History Bonhoeffer was a Theologian, Pastor, pacifist, an underground resistance leader, writer, and Martyr a good introduction to the Man
I was disappointed. I was looking for a more thorough and insightful biography. This one only hits the highlights of Bonhoeffer’s life. It is also troubling that no author was listed and I could find little information about the publisher, Hourly History
Brief survey of the life and ideas of Bonhoeffer. It gives you a sense of what his life was like and how it influenced his actions and thought. Very relevant to the current times in which we are living.
An interesting read. In my youth I had absolutely no interest in history. It amazes me that I'm reading books about the world way-back-when and enjoying it.
I really knew nothing about Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I have heard the name but nothing else. The synopsis about this man being killed for his faith and stand against The Nazi regime peaked my interest. The story did not disappoint. Sad, but true that there is so much hatred in this world. That certainly came through in this book, but also that this man gave his life for his ideals is very inspiring. Well written short bio of a great man in history.
I have read much deeper biographies on Dietrich Bonhoeffer, but this one was a very nice summation of the great man that he was. He was a deep thinker, a passive but very spiritual man. His favorite activity was studying and engaging others in dialogue. He had a great heart for the common man and those who did not have the finer things in life. Although his life was cut short just a few weeks before the end of World War II, he left his mark on Christianity and the world.
This book gave me a good insight of this theologian and modern day saint that I had never heard of. The great advantage of this series is that they are short so you can pick up any title without risking wasting too much time. In reality I have almost never found my time wasted and have often learned about people who I had no knowledge of before.
I’ve read a few of these hourlong histories and find them fascinating. I hope to read many more. They give the reader very good, short peek into areas they might want to read more in depth later on. That’s the case here in this short biography of a national hero who was also a holy man and a philosopher.
A good, brief sketch of a great man of faith. Bonhoeffer believed that following Jesus would cost us something. It cost him his life. Not much of his theology is here. Readers will have to consult his writings for that.
