Double Trouble: Two Werewolves for Brian

Rate this book
Can one human handle two alpha werewolves? Brian Holt is about to find out...

Brian never fantasized about being claimed by a werewolf. The appeal is obvious--werewolves tend toward unfairly attractive in that whole ruggedly handsome and muscle-bound way--but being chosen is the kind of thing that only happens to people on the news. It's like winning the lottery or falling into a sinkhole. It's not something that would realistically happen to him

Except it did, and then the werewolf changed his mind.

Three years after being told that choosing him was a mistake, Brian is trying to get on with his life when news spreads that there's a werewolf on campus. Hiding away in his apartment, the very last thing Brian expects is for the stud to come knocking on his door...

(This 100k word romance novel features two scorching hot alpha werewolves with a kink-list three pages long, a confused young man, and more secrets than you can shake a stick at. The story contains BDSM, a well equipped playroom, and questionable werewolf anatomy. It has a guaranteed HEA.)

***

There was a knock at the door. Expecting his best friend Luke, Brian put the dish towel down and walked across the room to open it.

It was the werewolf. He was tall, head reaching almost to the top of the door, with wide shoulders and a trim waist, his boulder-like biceps making the sleeves of his leather jacket bulge.

He was huge.

Looking up, Brian took in the man's mountainous pectorals and the thick neck exposed by his unzipped jacket. He had thin lips and a dimpled chin, with a strong jaw and sharp cheekbones that landed him on just the right side of too pretty. Meeting the werewolf's eyes for a fraction of a second, blue so pale they almost looked gray, Brian had to look away at the sight of sheer want in the other man's eyes.

His belly tingled with heat like it hadn't done since... since the last time a werewolf had looked at him like that.

Brian ducked his head, staring at the werewolf's denim clad legs and huge boots before forcing himself to look up again. The werewolf's expression was still heated, his eyes locked on Brian with an intensity that made his insides squirm.

"Can I come in?"

DNF 62%. Its like somebody got a cauldron and magically combined a leather daddy, a box set of BSDM Hentai, a horse's dick and out popped this book. It was hot at first. Sure I wasn't into every kink they did, but I just tried to brush off the stuff that bothered me. Such as watersports and heavy bouts of humiliation. Unfortunately as I kept reading it just got kinkier and kinkier until I could no longer ignore it. Call me a prude but I just had to call it quits.

I don't know what they were about to do in that bathtub scene but I was like 70% sure whatever it was would haunt me for the rest of my days.
If you are into SUPER, HIGH LEVEL, HARDCORE kinky stuff. This book is for you. If you're just a horny little innocent who likes romance novels, then enter at you own risk.

good smut in a terrible book.

i’m a firm believer that if you want to write erotica and fill the majority of the book with sex scenes, do it because i’m going to love it, but don’t, for the love of all that is holy, try to fill the end with unnecessary drama. nobody cares about that.

the smut was good, but reading the blurb it felt like going into something super extreme when it just isn’t. it was more like trying to go in that direction without actually going there. they talked so much about sounding and then the scene fades to black after the start? lmao no.

This was freakin' hot. I was squirming in several places. I was surprised with the amount of crazy plot twists and world-building too.

-1* because I did not care to read about the negative/discriminating parent.

Overall, a very fun steamy read!

Poor representation of a D/s relationship - it’s just straight up D. The werewolves either force or coerce Brian into doing what they want because he’s “theirs” and it’s “fated”. Yeah…big NO from me.

Got to the point where they tell Brian that he’ll no longer be eating or drinking, instead only receiving sustenance by consuming their come & piss, and I’m bolting far far away.

The first 25% was solid and exactly what I have come to expect from this author. To be honest very few write it this well. It's always hovering at the line of consent and dirty kinky fun. This one was going along swimmingly and it just deflates like a balloon and everybody backs off and for me it lacked the steam to keep it moving. Having them be apart and then getting together only on weekends diminished some of the fun - they felt distanced. I mean the authors other books don't have the guys together every day but I never felt the absence so keenly.

It did go more romantic and less erotic and that was ok - and I liked all three guys. I mean I should be saying I liked that they backed off more on Brian when it was too much. I should be all happy. Sigh. But I guess I'm a bit too depraved. I wanted darker. Still good just ...made me go back and re read The Billionaire's Puppy - The Complete Collection again which is totally a classic to me on this dub-con line and so freakin' hot.

Uhm I didn't really feel the love – did they fall in love? Like if they weren't fated to be together I wouldn't really believe in their HEA.
I felt it between Hunter and Abe although I found the two characters completely interchangeable apart from Abe being slightly more intense and wild at times.

I loved the kink and the concept of creating an omega but I found this book just too long.
I read it because I had jokingly asked for 'no kinky sex' and this was recommended and it delivered perfectly on that front :D

Some quotes
"I like you like this. You should always smell like a hungry little cum-bucket." (p. 184)

Cum-smoothies (p. 227)

"Belly bulging, hands trapped in snug mittens, a collar around his throat, Brian was everything Hunter had dreamed of in a human." (p. 234)

"He felt like a Chihuahua fucking a Great Dane." (p. 282)

"The underwear sat lose on their waists when they were in their human forms..." (p. 285)
This imagery is just so odd :D

Brian was too passive and dumb. He expressed no curiosity about werewolves or his mates. He blindly did what he was told by authority figures, without questioning. He was satisfied not knowing why about life, events, and people. Along with a mental deficit, he also had a lack of emotional connection with his mates, friend, and sister. The only person he cared for was his mother.

Abe and Hunter had a strong relationship and provided emotional support for each other and extended it to Brian. Brian was stuck in his own world and only focused on his needs. Both werewolves were standup guys who broke tradition in their mating with Brian, giving him choice, independence and financial support.

The sex was raunchy a la DJ Heart style. It lost steam after a while due to Brian's dud personality.

The state of the union plot twist at the end was ominous for the US population. It really showed that Abe and Hunter to be great guys in the overall scheme of things. Unfortunately, Brian didn't have the emotional capacity to give back to make a balanced menage.

Oh boy, oh boy. This book was almost too much for me. It introduced a lot of new kinks such as oral-knotting, that had my eyes blowing wide. I'm not super into alphaholes at the moment (alpha assholes) and Hunter/Abe, our werewolves, were a bit too...mean for me. I guess? Like, they weren't cruel, but they weren't vibing "totally over the moon for our human and will do whatever he wants". In a way it was nicely realistic though that these alpha werewolves would struggle against their dominating side constantly. And I did love the world the author created where humans are desperate to be selected by these enormous, sexy werewolves. So that was fun.

So much sex my Kindle almost exploded.

Really, don't ask me why I read this, cause I don't even know, it was a LOT. I can't even put a star rating cause I don't even. I apologize to all my friends for the really different books that are about to go across my feed. Reading this led down a weird recommendations rabbit hole, and I'm too curious for my own good...

I don't even know what to say... I have read a lot of MM romance with different writings styles and even some dark themes but this one was way too much for me.

The story started out as a Porn Without Plot. But not your usual PWP with sexy times between the main character, a PWP where I kept wondering, 'what he eff am I reading??'

Then we got to know a little bit more about the characters but by that time I had already figured out that Abe was a giant douchebag and Brian had close to no personality. I would even say that he was TSTL. The only character I kind of liked was Hunter, his personality was a little bit more developed and you could tell that he was kind. However, one good character isn't enough to make up for a big mess of a storyline. It is a miracle I managed to read this until the end. The plot wist at the end was so underwhelming, weird and unnecessary. I've lost valuable minutes in my life reading this and I will never get them back.
I don't like being dramatic (I'm lying I actually love being dramatic) but this book was really hard to finish.

I have read other novels by D.J Heart and they were fine, so I'll continue reading books from them but this was a complete miss for me.

This was an enjoyable 3* read.

Good:
- Lots of kink - bondage, sounding, enemas, vac-bed, oral knotting, spanking, flogging. Lots and lots of on page sex.
- I loved that the two alpha werewolves had a sexual relationship and mate bond with each other, and that that dynamic was different from the one they have with Brian
- the werewolves wearing baggy underwear so they don’t shred it when they shift into wolf men is a hilarious mental image
- creative use of smoothies

Meh:

- I would have liked a bit more plot and relationship development, although the plot does pick up the pace quite a lot in the last 20%.
-I was vaguely annoyed that one of the MCs had a trust fund and could afford not to work, yet still prioritized his job over spending time with Brian.
- consent is a bit iffy in a lot of the book. The werewolves tell him he doesn’t need a safe word because if he says no, they’ll stop. They then proceed to ignore him asking to stop over and over again, and that becomes part of their kink dynamic (and Brian enjoys it). So why not just give the guy a safe word?
- this book was begging for a werewolf chase CNC scene in the woods but didn’t have one.

3.5 stars. I think of this author as a guilty pleasure. It's way OTT, the sex is kinky, not always safe or usually fully consensual, generally the Alpha's are un-PC and unrepentantly domineering (although that wasn't the case in this book, which I found both endearing and disappointing.), there is barely a plot and scarcely enough world building but somehow I always find myself liking the characters and going up in flames.

For the most part this new book (2 years since the last one, it was a long wait) falls in line with past writing but both Abe and Hunter seemed softer even if the first sex scenes/claiming thoughts were anything but. I could get on board for this but I didn't really like what little we get to know of Brian. He felt like he was written very uneven. Sometimes super submissive and other times he seemed to be annoyed with all the sex and games in a way that wasn't really in character.

Still read it all the way through as fast as I could.

This was so raunchy, spicy, and a little nasty in a good way.

This was just smut with a dash of plot. Don't get me wrong, the plot was pretty good. It got my interest peak. I really wanted to know more about the world and werewolf society.

Brian is so talented juggling, not one but two werewolves. Like how he managed with only two holes, lol.

Tropes:
✔️ Age-gap
✔️ Heavy BDSM dynamic
✔️ Fated mates
✔️ Some switching
✔️ Paranormals-in-the-open

This book was weird, but good weird for me. For one, I expected this to be the typical fare of DJ Heart's PWP. Lots of BDSM, dubconny, all that fun.

It was, and it wasn't. This was a lot lighter than some of their works -- Honor/Obey, The Billionaire's Puppy, The Submissive Wife. That was very brutal sado-masochism, while here, anything that intense was off-page and the word 'no' was respected along with safewords. Wild, really. Brian was enthusiastic to be in this relationship with two werewolves, and I'm glad for him. Abe and Hunter didn't feel as fleshed out, but that's fine. They were hot, what else do you need?

The process in which omegas become omegas was... intriguing. I kind of want to read a book DJ Heart style where a human is turned into one, lol. Mostly just because it hits some specific kink for me. Anyway, there was plot building around 70% and well, I hadn't expected it. I didn't expect the sweet feelings, but also the dystopia werewolf conspiracies and how human mates were treated. I'd honestly be curious to read more in this world for the plot building and society, not just the BDSM.

If you want some PWP BDSM fun and throw in a dystopian background with a dramatic but sweet ending, read it! I always read these books in pieces though, all at once, it will be a bit overwhelming.

DNF @ 26%, Chapter 7

Usually probably keep going but sadly I just can't handle it. I adore kink and bdsm however it still needs characters with personality and plot to back it up. It just has nothing to keep me interested to continue reading if that's all. I guess it lives up to its description though, 'kink-list three pages long' - pretty much no limits here so if looking for hard-core kink fest this is for you.

I know what to expect from this author and I love it! Hunter and Abe are two alpha werewolves and they have found their human, Brian. There is lots of dirty, kinky sex, but also some sweet scenes. This had an unusual take on werewolves. Yes, Hunter and Abe can shift, but they don't become werewolves, they just become bigger versions of their human self.

Two times the fun

I wasn't too sure about this at first. I didn't think I was going to like it. I didn't like Abe at all. He was too pushy and too aggressive. It took a while for me to start to like him. I did like Hunter but wasn't head over heels for him. I'm glad I stuck with them because I did end up liking the book. Especially when Brian started asserting himself.

Overall I don’t rate this highly. If your thinking about the sex and only the second then maybe this story would go up to a 5 star review but I look at the plot, character development as well as the characters themselves.

Firstly and most important: why are we supporting an abusive relationship where the MC is controlled by two others who don’t really care about him or his health and his well-being? Why is that a thing now in MxM books? Do we really think that this is OK and healthy in real life to let yourself be controlled completely? I understand the BDSM aspect of it but even in BDSM the sub has SOME say over who they are and what they do. They have a MIND. Why is it OK to show two alphas not caring about their mate and they’re mates well-being forcing them into sex essentially (even though the main character did not put up a fight or say no they didn’t ask nor did that care if the MC would have said no).

They wanted to turn him into a mindless sex doll without his permission and although I did not finish this book completely, I got about 50 pages to the end and still, they were keeping it a secret that they wanted to turn him into and mindless sex doll. I was hoping that when his mother came that she would’ve had something to say, but honestly, I gave up the book at that point because it seem to be leading nowhere. I wouldn’t say that there was character development in this book. The MC was a stupid mindless whore who didn’t know how to stand up for themselves and the two mates of his did not care for him or about him enough if they had if they would’ve told him about turning him into a mindless sex slave.

I do not recommend this book if you’re looking for character development, and actual plot or equality between all three characters because there’s not. This in my opinion does not accurately show a BDSM relationship the way that it should.

If you like a story with lots of sex then this is for you BUT in my warning, a notice does not mean no in this story. It feels like the author of the story came in with an original idea or at least a good idea nonetheless but totally screwed it over. Second book and series better than this one should’ve been this one wasn’t. There was more consent in that book that there wasn’t this book but still the author wrote in a dominate mate that wanted to turn the MC into a sex doll with no feelings or emotions or thoughts for themselves and that is disgusting to see.

I usually love werewolf books and also some smutty scenes, but I was not a fan of the characters, Brian didn’t seem like he had any back bones and Hunter & Abe were just asshole who used him as a sex thing. Didn’t feel like there was romance here.

Human Brian is rejected by an unknown werewolf to become his mate. Three years later, another werewolf, Hunter is on campus. Following Brian’s scent, he claims to be his mate, with the other werewolf that rejected him.

This start a series of sexual moments where consent is somehow existent, but it depends of the situation. Like example, Hunter takes some very explicit pictures of Brian with his phone, to send to Abe (the other werewolf) but never ask if this is ok.

At the beginning, I though Abe would be the “softer” one since he let Brian go because he was afraid of what he wanted to do to him. Turn out I was wrong, Abe is a dick and even if he somehow tries to make an effort, the whole “we are no asking permission, he is going to submit” is not a turn on for me.

There are couple of moments where Brian mentions he would like the guys to ask his opinions or permissions before doing certain kinks, but the human was way to forgiving about everything. I hated the part where the Abe was telling him:“ you are going to love it”. I guess people who like to read about BDSM & master/sub will appreciate this book better than me. Also the guys keep promising him certain things that just never happen in this book.

There a side story about Brian mother not being excited about her son mates (I somehow understand her...). But it seems not asking Brian opinion is a pattern in this book.

I loved Double Trouble: Two Werewolves for Brian. I was so excited to see a new book from D.J. Heart. He is one of my go-to authors for books that are heavy in BDSM with super dominate alphas and needy submissives. The fact that this book has two alpha werewolves that have a submissive human mate just makes it that much better cause you get the whole fated mates also. I loved the interactions between the two werewolves, Hunter and Abe, and how they both keep each other in check to make sure that they didn't let their werewolves instincts jeopardize the health of their human mates. So many hot sexy times between Brian, Hunter, and Abe and I loved that there were scenes between Brian and Hunter, Brian and Abe, and Hunter and Abe in addition to the three of them being together at the same time.

So if you are looking for a book with hot sexy dominate werewolves and a submissive human mate and plenty of hot sexy scenes and a great plot, then this is the book for you.

My issues with this one stems from me wanting the author to have pushed the envelop further & wishing there was different POVs during certain scenes.

Humiliation was introduced as one of the guys kinks at the beginning & then they just resort to name calling afterwards. Brian is never shown being embarrassed about anything he does. You get a glimpse of that and it tappers off to nothing. Similarly Brian seemed to enjoy sensory deprivation yet that doesn't get explored. There just always seemed to be an introduction of something that could be more than just vanilla and then there was no follow through.

Secondly, why was the scene where Brian denies Hunter & claims to be hurt from Hunters POV? Plus the time Brian wants to take Abe & is denied is from Abe's POV. I think if it had been Brian instead maybe I would have liked him more. Him showing a little backbone would have helped immensely w/ me liking him (which at this point I don't).

Anyway, the book is one note. There's no real conflict between the trio to make it interesting.

Wow! This was unique among all of the books that I've read by D.J. Heart. When I first read the synopsis, I was expecting something like the 'Evan's Alphas' books - which I loved and would highly recommend. But Brian, Abe, and Hunter had such a different dynamic that this book really blew me away.

I loved that while Abe was the alpha in their wee pack, Hunter was the glue that kept them together, and Brian was brought in as an equal partner as well as a submissive. It was gratifying to see that while the werewolves had the option to make Brian a mindless toy, they both recognized that the fantasy would destroy much of what they loved most about their mate.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
