Declan loves playing hockey for a living. Who wouldn't? Life as the captain of the professional hockey team, the Milwaukee Manes, is very organized and he likes knowing his main concern is putting the puck in the net. That is until his best friend's sister decides to shake up his life with rules of her own. Before he even knows what is happening, he has completely fallen under Emma's spell.
Everything was good... right up until it wasn't. When Declan's best friend finds out about his relationship with Emma, and a ghost from Emma's past resurfaces, the trust they had built with one another shatters around them. Trust has a way of bringing people together just as it has a way of ripping them apart. Will Milwaukee's favorite hockey player find his way back to the one woman who has ever meant more to him than a rubber puck?
My name is Kay Stewart and I have been telling tales for as long as I can remember but have only recently decided to put that talent to good use and write. I have traveled near and far but am now settled in a small town with my husband and two beautiful children. When I am not busy being a mom, I am writing and enjoying a cup of coffee. I love bringing a story together and watching as the characters develop over the span of a series. I am a lover of love, sports, books, food, travelling, and people. All of these things are obvious in my books. Sports romances with a hint of family drama thrown into the mix are my jam. Hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I have enjoyed writing them
I enjoyed the book, although I found the speech style stilted and very formal in places. Situation with the exes did not seem resolved, especially for how clingy Sam seem to be at the beginning. Also the back and forth with 'I trust her' 'I don't trust her' on behalf of the hero and the heroine's neediness got annoying at the end. Just needed a bit of thorough editing and direction towards the end to earn 5 stars.
Got barely 20% through, feels like a mom’s first attempt at a romance novel
Got barely 20% through, flat characters, poor writing, and unrealistic dialogue. It was a mess, with odd judgment of characters sexual behaviors mixed in.
Couldn’t put this one down! I fell in love with the realness of the characters and their romances, family dynamics and friendships. Bravo Kay Stewart! Can’t wait to start book two in the series!
I mean,.REALLY tried to like this.book, but when there are like 12 different characters mentioned by name and I am barely at 7℅, I known I'm gonna have some issues. I was right. It was way too much, too many people - because yes, there are like 20. There are side stories building which only overwhelm and crowd the original story line. There is a lot of drinking by 23 yr olds that just feels unnecessary, especially when they just have a lot of high school drama. I hate it when author's feel the need to have characters treat each other badly, saying hurtful things to each other, just because they are mad, which again, very high school ish for 20+ yr olds . Honestly, I will not be reading more of this series.
The love of Decan & Emma is so sweet but so hot. Love how Emma gets Decan to agree to such a funny arrangement to began with. Than when it blows up, how two such stubborn people work it through. Can’t wait for next book to read.
It was a quite well written story but it just didn’t gel for me. I don’t know why. But I can see why lots of people like it. I’d probably try another story by this author.
I liked the story, but the book it was hard to follow at first since there are SO many characters. Once everyone was introduced (for the most part) I was able to get into it more and just enjoy it for what it was. While I typically prefer a good enemies to lovers, this friends to lovers/in love with brother's best friend trope was done really well. Its also a hockey romance which I tend to eat right up. This book could benefit from a technical edit as there are quite a few spelling and grammar errors that can be distracting or even confusing sometimes.
When all is said and done, its a fun read and I can not wait to see how Emma and Declan's love grows through the rest of the series.
