Is the risk always worth the reward?

Lennox ‘Leni’ Ford was always a rule follower. But obeying the rules has never led her to happiness. So, Leni listens to her heart. And though that’s left her feeling alone and rejected by her family, it doesn’t stop Leni from continuing to dive in head first. Even when she knows she may end up hurt.

Holden Locke is a brilliant man who’s always relied on logic to steer him in the right direction. But his good sense flew out the window the moment he saw Leni standing outside her torched yoga studio. Now he’s got a choice to make. Listen to reason and stay away or surrender to his feelings and take a risk.

Before he can stop it, Holden finds himself submitting to Leni’s allure. And it isn’t long before the pair are wrapped up in each other. But the faster Leni falls, the harder Holden pulls away.

And as Holden wages an internal battle with his emotions, neither of them realizes that Leni’s gearing up for the fight of her life.

A.K. Evans is a contemporary romance author of over twenty published novels. While she enjoys writing a good romantic suspense novel, Andrea’s favorite books to write have been her extreme sports romances. That might have something to do with the fact that she, along with her husband and two sons, can’t get enough of extreme sports.

Before becoming a writer, Andrea did a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry and managed her husband’s performance automotive business. That love of extreme sports? She used to drive race cars!

When Andrea isn’t writing, she can be found homeschooling her two sons, doing yoga, snowboarding, reading, or traveling with her family. She and her husband are currently taking road trips throughout the country to visit all 50 states with their boys.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Welcome back to Wyoming and the world of Cunningham Security! In Surrender we get to really know Leni and Holden who we were introduced to in Burned. I had been not so patiently waiting for this book because I was so excited to know more about the fun yoga teacher and the ever sot hot private investigator. Let me tell you, Surrender did not disappoint!!!!

A.K. Evans always gives us men we cannot help but fall in love with but one of my favorite things about her books are the heroines. Once again she has introduced us to a brave, loving and strong woman we can all admire and who we all wish was our friend.

You are going to love this one!!!!

Surrender was the 7h book in A.K. Evan’s Cunningham Security Series. While part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Yoga instructor Leni Ford is finally happy and living the life she was meant to. Groomed from an early age to follow in her parent’s steps as a CEO in their communications company, Leni instead chooses to follow her heart. She’s found success in movement and in her yoga studio even though her parents cut her out of their lives and wears her happiness on her sleeve. But, her entire world is threatened when an arsonist burns her studio to the ground, leaving her no way to earn an income or stay connected to yoga, which helps her maintain the balance and movement she needs in her life.

Private investigator Holden Locke is instantly drawn to the beautiful and full of life Leni. Vowing to help her in any way he can, he quickly feels the pull of attraction and how easy it is to get wrapped up in all that she is. Holden has been burned before, however, and feels he can’t even risk his heart in that way again. The more Leni pushes closer, the more he tries to pull away. What neither realize, however, is that fate isn’t through with Leni just yet, and Holden, no matter how afraid of commitment he is, just may be the key to her survival.

I adored just how strong Leni was to follow her own path, regardless of the consequences with her unsupportive parents. She knows exactly who she is and is completely true to herself, and I don’t think that many people would be able to forge their own way like she did.

I also completely understood Holden’s fears and insecurities after his prior relationship went so wrong. I’m not saying I loved how he pushed and pulled at Leni’s emotions while trying to figure out his own, but I got it and I loved that the author made him so vulnerable to his past hurts.

This also wouldn’t be a fair review without a shout out to Leni’s amazing grandmother, Audry! She is such a bright spot in this book, offering Leni so much love and support and plays such a huge role in both Leni and Holden’s story. I couldn’t get enough her fabulousness in this book!

While Surrender is mostly the story of Leni and Holden finding out if they could and should surrender to their needs, desires, fears and past experiences to give their relationship a go, there is some unexpected drama that came out of nowhere that left me breathless! It really made for a thrilling ending to Holden and Leni’s story. 4.5 stars. And, be sure to download the bonus epilogue . . . it was brilliant and totally worth snagging for free!

Leni bravely chose to follow her dreams of opening a yoga studio rather than following the dreams that others had for her however it had its costs. Not only did she lose the people who should love her unconditionally but now her dreams as well as her studio have gone up in smoke.

Holden works for Cunningham Security who is helping the police investigate the arsons that have been occurring with more frequency around town. From the moment he meets Holden all he wants to do is protect her and keep her safe and even though he isn’t looking for love or a relationship he can’t get her off his mind. He was determined to keep his distance but will he realize how much she means to him before it is too late?

These two couldn’t be different when it comes to their hearts as she embraces everyone while he has built walls around his. I did enjoy that once Holden accepts the feelings he has for Leni that he was all in.

Surrender by A.K. Evans
“Holden and Leni, 4 stars”

So, I have been sitting here trying to figure out how to rate Surrender. Don’t get me wrong I highly enjoyed it. I loved Leni and Holden. I couldn’t blame Holden for being scared and I love how Leni just jumped because her heart told her to. With that said I was expecting more suspense. I felt like that ended really fast in Surrender compared to the other books in the series. That’s just a personal feeling though and I think if you take a chance on Surrender you will enjoy these two.
Leni left the life of luxury behind because she followed her heart. And she hasn’t regretted it since. But when her business is the victim of an arson attack, she can’t help but wish she had someone to turn to aside from her friends. Holden sparks something inside her and once Leni decides she wants something she jumps. Has her heart finally led her awry or will taking a chance on Holden be worth it?
Holden has been burned by love in the past and he has no desire to try it again. But Leni makes him feel again. There is just something about her. Will he be able to keep his distance or will he hurt them both? Only one way to find out.

Oh, Holden. For such a smart man, he sure excelled at letting irrational fears keep him away from what he really wanted. As for Leni, even her past and fears of leading with her heart didn’t stop her from putting herself out there. I adored both of them, though I wanted to slap Holden more than once for his bullheadedness.

While their story feels a tad different from other books in this series, it is no less fabulous or emotional. In fact, Leni hit me harder than most of the women involved with Cunningham Security men because she was so determined to try to be different from who she knew she truly was, all to try to have some semblance of a chance at anything with Holden. I started reading for Holden, but I stayed and finished this story because Leni grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. I enjoyed their road to happy and can only sit and pretend to patiently wait to see what comes next from this author.

I Love Leni and Holden! And Leni’s grandma is so funny! There was drama and action in this story. It made it so much more interesting. Especially when it was unexpected. The story was very well written, and another perfect part to the Cunningham Security series. Holden is sexy, sweet, and closed off. And Leni is funny, and wears her heart on her sleeve. It is a perfect combo to create drama, and sexy scenes.

I knew Holdens book would be good and it was.. but Leni really made this book enjoyable. Leni is most definitely my favorite heroine. She is not afraid to be vulnerable, honest, and go after what she wants and I think it was really refreshing.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF SOURCES. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

This was more of a 3.5 star read for me, but not worthy of a 3 star rating. I had a hard time remembering who Holden was in relation to the series, so I appreciated the bit of the retelling of the previous book to reintroduce Leni and Holden to the reader! Once I actually remembered who Holden was, I kinda hated his push/pull attitude towards Leni. I did like how Leni wore her heart on her sleeve and went after her dreams/calling, despite her parents' negative attitude. The story was engaging and fast paced, although the suspense angle felt a little tacked on at the end of the book. I'm eager to see where the rest of the series goes from here!

Lennox “Leni” Ford was expected to work for her family at Ford Communications after she graduates but Leni knows that her heart isn’t in it and really wants to follow her own dreams of opening her own yoga studio. She knows that the decision could cost her everything but she knows if she doesn’t take this opportunity she will regret it for the rest of her life.

Holden Locke works for Cunningham Security and when he sees Leni outside of her burned yoga studio he realizes in that moment he will do anything he can to protect her. The problem is that as much as he wants Leni he is also afraid to make a real commitment to her as he doesn’t want to risk his own heart being broken.

Can Leni and Holden find a way to mend both of their hearts with each other or are they both headed for heartbreak?

I am enjoying this series but I feel at the same time that it is getting very repetitive and we need more mystery and way less bedroom encounters.

I liked Leni and I really liked how she was following her dreams even though it was really costing her everything. She lost her parents through her decision but her grandma was absolutely amazing and I really loved her character. Leni was super strong and vulnerable with the loss of her studio but she was determined to work hard and open it again.

I liked Holden but I didn’t like the way he was so hot and cold with Leni. In one instance he is all over her and possessive and in the next instance he is pushing her away. The two decide on a “sex” only relationship but then it gets super complicated and Holden is a jerk again.

So because the relationship is a physical one there is lots of sex again. I am in no means opposed to it but I have found that the stories themselves are getting weaker as there seems to be less build up and mystery that you expect from a security kind of book. You don’t hear very much about what Holden is working on which was very prominent in the first few books.

At the beginning of the book I guessed the ‘Villain” and I was pleasantly surprised at the end of the book. Everything made perfect sense and I liked the way the ending was done but I just wish there was more of that through the entire book.

This author has great ideas but we need more story and less sex as although it is super popular in books, in this series it just keeps on coming over and over again. 3.5 Stars- Rebecca

Lennox, aka Leni, Ford has always followed the rules her parents set down for her, even as far going to college & majoring in what they wanted her to, in order to take over the family business. However, about a month before graduation, she decides to go in a different direction, which had her parents cutting her off completely, and yet, Leni was never happier doing what she loved, yoga. When the building which housed her yoga studio burns down, she comes face to face with Holden Locke for the first time. He's a very sweet man, and they have seriously chemistry, but Holden has some serious issues with relationships, after being burned by his ex-fiance. They still act on that lethal chemistry to light the sheets on fire, with Leni believing that they can enjoy sexy times with no strings attached, and she gives it the old college try, but she's catching feelings quickly. Holden, however, isn't willing to take the chance on something which would be the best thing in his life, which seriously enrages me, since Leni had all kinds of patience despite the fact that he was constantly trying to pull away. At this point, a HUGE twist comes out of left field, which shocked me into dropping f-bombs like crazy, as I never saw it coming. So, did Holden ever get over himself for a bright future with Leni?! You'll have to hit the one click button to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

The Dancing PI and The Yoga Instructor!

Surrender (Cunningham Security Series Book 7) by A.K. Evans is a protector romance between yoga instructor Leni and Holden, who is Cunningham Security IT personnel. Holden first met Leni, and when he gave her his hoodie to wear over her yoga outfit the day when the town’s arsonist burned down her Yoga studio. When Holden checks up on Leni, he helps her with a temporary yoga studio location at his brother’s gym. Holden is holding on to past pain from a former engagement that left him devastated.
After the decimation of his heart by his former fiancée, Holden only has surface relationships since he refuses to surrender his love to another woman. Leni offers a no-string-attached relationship to Holden, who initially refuses but changes his mind. This decision places Holden and Leni on a path to passion, friendship, love, pain, and rejection, becoming one hot mess of a romance. But what a romance! This one tugs on the heartstrings with Holden and Leni’s push/pull-on/off-again cycle. A. K. Evans brings the heat and passion as the romance unfolds within the book’s pages. I am addicted to her romance books regardless of the trope or genre. Surrender is also available in an audiobook narrated by Vanessa Edwin Gregory Salina, which brings the book to life like the old-time radio stories broadcast in the 1940s—another outstanding audiobook written by A. K. Evans.

ARC REVIEW

Book seven of the series but can be read as a standalone. Holden and Leni met in book five and have been slowly moving, Holden, the big dork, doesn't want anything serious but he can keep away from her and ends up being hot and cold with her. As much as he likes her he can't allow himself to get attached. Leni is only hesitant because she can't figure him out, she agreed to a no strings affair but the attachment was already forming and she feels she brought this on herself. Holden's rejection doesn't help with her self esteem either already having been disowned by her parents for following her heart; the only person who has been in her corner is her Grandmother. On top of all the emotional turmoil going on just when they think they have it all figured out something happens that might take all that away.

Overall, it was a good read, it kind of reminded me of one of her other books. Holden and Leni are a great couple it just takes Holden a bit longer to realize it. Told in alternating first person the story is emotional between what happened with Leni and her parents and Holden and his past the two of them finally getting together was a bit of work.

Surrender is the 7th book in the Cunningham Security series. This is the first book that I have read from this series. And yes, you can read it as a standalone.

If this book is my example of how good this series is then I need to read the first 6 books too.

This is Holden Locke and Lennox “Leni” Ford’s story. She said the dreaded words “I love you” and Holden just can’t go there, he has commitment issues, with reason. I still really wanted to kick some sense into Holden.

So, for those that might follow some of my reviews they might know that I listen to all my books using the text to speech feature on my kindle. Well I was so engrossed in this book that I apparently was ignoring my family. I do wear headphones while listening to my books but they were actually yelling at me and they still couldn’t get my attention that’s how engrossed in this book I was.

I am so disappointed in Leni’s parents. I know there are parents out there that are like that but I still couldn’t get over them.

I got so involved with Surrender that I got lost in it. I think it is safe to say that I may have a new addiction to reading A.K. Evans books!

Holden and Leni’s story.
I’ve gotta say, I’ve been intrigued by these two since they first appeared in Pierce and Zara’s book, Burned. Holden is a sexy alpha-type P.I., and Leni is a sweet, strong, outgoing yoga instructor. They have amazing chemistry from the start.
When Leni’s yoga studio burned down, Holden helped find a temporary location at his brother’s gym in order for her to still be able to teach her yoga classes. Leni finds herself falling fast for Holden. While he is drawn to her, he struggles to fully open himself due to being burned by a relationship in the past. Will he finally realize Leni means more to him than his fears, or will it be too late as danger stalks her?
This series definitely just keeps getting better for me. I adored meeting Leni’s grandmother, what a firecracker! She absolutely stole the show in the scenes she was in, and loved Leni unconditionally. I’m so looking forward to the next installment in this series.
I would definitely recommend this book.

The more I listen to this series, the more I have come to enjoy it. As a former yoga instructor, this one was extra especial.
If you have listened or read the previous stories, you met Leni/Lennox Ford. She’s the owner of the yoga studio that got burned down in the previous story.
We now learn that until the end of college, she was the rule follower and pleaser. Neither letting her be whom she truly wanted to be. The moment she stands for herself, her family disowns her.
Meanwhile Holden Locke, a member of Cunningham Security has always been a man that analyses everything and is by the book and self contained. But seeing Leni as she watches her studio be taken up in flames, that part of him he held inside, comes out for her.
Will these two get a chance of finding their HEA with each other or will the past keep them apart?
Another wonderful addition to the series where the narrators Vanessa Edwin and Gregory Salinas bring the story to life.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Loved Leni

Title: Surrender
Author: A.K. Evans
Format: ebook
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Standalone: yes but also related to Burned and a bit of Unworthy
Part of a Series: Book 7 of Cunningham Security
POV: Leni, Holden
Steam Leveler: steamy at times
4/5

We initially see how Leni and Holden meet in Burned but Surrender is their POV of said meeting. We also see the case that they met from solved in Burned so I suggest reading that in order to find out about the arsonist if you want more detail. It’s touched upon and also resolved in Surrender but not fully detailed, just touched upon.

Surrender is specifically Leni and Holden’s story. While not my favorite I really enjoyed the climax which was unexpected and quite gripping. I also love how the guys not only call each other out on their poor decisions but are also immediately there, putting asaide everything else when needed. I did really like how Leni stood up for herself and was emotionally vulnerable without seeming weak. If fact this made her stronger and more resilient.

This is the 7th book in this fascinating series, and this is Holden and Lennox / Leni’s journey.
Leni has always been a rule follower, and when she listens to her heart, it could cost her everything. Holden is ruled by logic and analyses everything, and he lives by the book. When Holden sees Leni outside her yoga studio after it was set ablaze, he is instantly attracted, and the closer they become, the more he pushes her away. Will these two get a chance at being together?
This is a well written story which is easy to read, and is an emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, romance, taking chances, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, unpredictable, and steamy addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I’m a huge fan of this series. Each character is so different but honour and integrity are high on their list of traits that they all share. Add in hot Alpha’s and you have a winning combination. We met Holden and Leni in Pierce’s book earlier in the series and I could tell that the sparks would fly so I was super excited to read their book. I was not disappointed at all! The emotions this book evoked were strong and I felt my heart melt for them. Leni’s courage and strength were amazing and had me tearing up reading her story. Holden is a real soft hearted guy and you could feel his struggle throughout the book. This was a wonderful story of triumph over adversity and knock backs. Wonderful book and series. I cannot rate them high enough. I can’t wait for the next one now.

Good read

Really enjoyed this story

Leni has made some tough decisions in life and when one of those decisions goes up in smoke, she’s devastated. Holden who is on scene as her world has crashed down on her takes care of her. They quickly realise there is something between them but Holdens previous experience in relationships hold him back. Can he sort himself out in time to thwart a threat neither of them saw coming.

I genuinely enjoyed this book although there was a point the toing and froing between whether he was ready for a relationship or not was started to get a bit old. I was desperate for the arc in the story where he’d realise he was an idiot.
The arc was unexpected and was a good twist. I really enjoy the Cunningham Security Team series

The sparks have been flying between Leni and Holden since he gave her his hoodie to wear following the burning of her yoga studio. He was in protector mode from that moment on. He's fine with no-strings relationships, but anything deeper than that is off limits. He refuses to live through the pain of heartbreak after his former fiancee decimated his heart. But as much as he wants to keep Leni at arm's length, Holden can't resist the pull he feels toward her. Vanessa Edwin and Gregory Salinas did an excellent job bringing these characters to life. They evoked emotion and passion which kept me listening from beginning to end.

I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this review.

We meet Holden and Leni in the previous two books, but we FINALLY get their story in this book! It does NOT disappoint-even though watching Holden fight his feelings and how it plays with Leni’s emotions.

I love the fact that Holden already came to the conclusion he needed to figure out how to earn Leni’s forgiveness before the dramatic events happened! I know Leni never thought that was why he was there for her in the hospital, but if I hadn’t known his point of view leading up to that point, I would have been hesitant to believe him!! But, deep down below all of his walls he built to protect his heart, he is an absolute sweetheart!

When yoga instructor Lennox 'Leni' Ford’s studio is set aflame by an arsonist in the area, Cunningham agent Holden Locke comes over to help. The pair decide there’s something between them and he even finds her a temporary work space. But when she offers herself to him, he runs away though she agrees to casual. But their definitions of casual vary greatly, to him is booty calls and she’s not sure what it means but resents his definition.

I read way too much of this outing because I didn’t get chemistry from these characters and didn’t care if they resolved their issues or not.

This one lured me back with the company it was. These are the kind of reads I do love to disappear into at times. These two Leni and Holden are going to give you a good story that wraps around you. They both seem to be alike that they listen with their "heart" that led them in this story. But it also causes one to go one way and the other one another way. Danger will sneak its way in as they battle their egos that you will also be slowly pulled by the intrigue. I think you will find yourself rooting for Leni with this one giving a good solid read.

This author is fantastic. She takes her time to develop each character in full. The love scenes were hot and steamy without being salacious or super graphic. In my minds eye I could see every detail of the scenes around them and the settings they were in. I have found zero plot holes in ANY of the Cunningham Security books and she tied up any loose ends left in the story. I love the way she ties all of the characters together and has each one appear in subsequent stories. Its like I never wanted their stories to end.

It’s Holden’s turn to find love in the 7th book of this series. His interest in Leni was hinted at a couple of books back so we have been waiting for his HEA. There is some mystery action here but I thought that really came out of nowhere. It would have been better to have a few more freakier interactions throughout, maybe a bit of stalking.
The series is good though and the words always flow and the interaction between the characters always natural. Good to see Pierce and Zara again too. I will be downloading book 8.

Holden! Holden! Holden! You’re killin’ me here! I understood his fears and hesitancy but I wanted to shake him!. His sense of logic about avoiding commitment and hurt was highly misconstrued! It took him too long to get his head out of his a**! And Leni! She was so patient with him…Loved Leni's grandmother, but her parents were ridiculous!

The suspense at the end was a little strange. I’m all for plot twists, but that was totally out of left field, and not necessarily in a good way. I didn’t see any reason for it…I don’t know. Am I being too picky?! Nah! That was weird.

Great!

I chose this rating because this was a pretty good book. I enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of protection, compassion, kindness, betrayal, getting your life back together, and being loved. I enjoyed Holden and Leni story. I think the author did an amazing job putting these characters together. It took Holden a minute to get his self together to realized that he was able to love and be loved again. Leni was patient with him until he broke her heart but he mended it back together. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers.
