Nerd hot was most definitely a thing.”

After a heartbreaking brush-off from a long-time crush cum night time summer affair, book blogger/ high school junior Vivian "Viv" Galdi, comes up with a plan to move on by turning her attention to a replacement crush. Perfectly safe, zing-free crushes.

Her best friends disagree, but Vivian will not be swayed. She has her list of safe crushes, and she intends to find her date in said list for the annual Surfer Ball. She won't add anyone with a zing factor higher than five, not even the new kid in school––the nerd-hot senior from Wisconsin, Dallas Lang a.k.a. Vespa Guy a.k.a. McNerd.

But as people say, true love can't be strategized. Your inner-Spock isn't always right.

I was so happy to have a book blogger heroine! The Replacement Crush was quite fun and entertaining to read. I finished the book in less than half a day; obviously I enjoyed it. Haha!

I loved Vivian when she wasn't being obstinate and oblivious. She's a kind, smart girl with an affinity for romance novels and Star Trek, has quite a successful blog, and she runs the romance book club at her mother's book shop. I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to see much about her life as a book blogger other than snippets here and there (book reviews she's written, staying up late to finish book reviews haha, mentions of ARCs and sub-genres).

She has a wonderful relationship with her mother. Her mother, a fairly successful mystery novelist (who publishes her book using a pseudonym), was chill and kind. She's the type of person who'd hang out over pizza and a movie, and give sage advice to her love-sick children.

Guys shouldn't become an obsession...Think of them as sprinkles on the donuts of life. Fun, but not necessary."

Dallas was cute, and his antics made me giggle, but sometimes he felt a bit too perfect for me. He's smart, funny, sweet, kind, can play the cello, and has a secret sport that won him countless trophies. As a young adult fan, I'd definitely him as a "perfect" hero, but even I know someone like him is one in a million.

I really did enjoy reading Vivian and Dallas' banter though. They liked the same things and got along well, and I giggled every time Dallas did or said something only Vivian would understand or appreciate. Inside jokes are the best! And when he flirted with her, Vivian seems completely oblivious, but dear lord if someone flirted with me the way Dallas did with Vivian, I would have given in. I'd rip the Replacement Crush list in front of him and kiss the bejeezus out of him! Haha

Toff, Vivian's childhood friend and sort-of step brother (their parents were dating), was hard to read at first. I didn't know if he was a possible romantic interest, and I was hoping he wasn't. The world has too many YA love triangles. Thank goodness this book didn't add to the list of the millions of YA love triangle stories.

Vivian's best friend, Jasmine, was entertaining and was a good friend to Vivian most of the time... unless she opened her mouth and told practically the world (or in teen speak, their crush and anyone whose opinion mattered to them the most) about Viv's agenda. Maybe it's just my thing about secrets and how I've always believed they're secrets for a reason and should be kept that way, but I hated it every time she blurted something she knew was a secret. I wouldn't trust my phone code with someone like her, let alone my secret replacement crush list.

Don't get me wrong. Jasmine's a good person. She just couldn't keep her mouth shut.

The Replacement Crush was a fun, light read. It's It made me miss high school and the teenage years just a bit. The characters were relatable (for the older readers, I'm sure they reminded you of the teenage years filled with thoughts of boys/girls, the social calendar, and other extra-curricular activities), the plot light, and the pace just right.

The ending made me smile, and the book made me happy. It made me miss reading contemporary YA novels!

If you like hot-nerd male leads, cute flirtations, and tons of pop culture (mostly Star Trek) reference, I recommend The Replacement Crush.

A little warning though, there's a bit of a sensitive scene here. Assault/ intent to rape.

"True love can’t be strategized."

This was such a cute story! I loved both Dallas aka our McNerdy, and Viv. Viv is pretty much myself. She has a cat named Hiddles. She loves Star Trek. She loves to read and runs a blog... Wait... was this story about me? Well, minus the super adorable (...and hot) Dallas. But seriously now, I really liked the chemistry these two have, Viv's mom, her girlfriends, that super-uper cute interview she did with Dallas (when you read it, you'll get what I'm saying), her friendship with Topper, and that kick-ass ending! Also, 2CELLOS are literally my life. They came to Serbia last year and were my first ever proper concert. I had so much fun... and yes, they are incredibly cute in real life.

The quality of my videos is much better than my photos apparently. However, let's make a conclusion - "The Replacement Crush" is an adorably nerdy book which will make you both laugh and swoon. Get ready to fall in love with the mysterious Vespa Guy and Vivian "Call me Viv" Galdi.

I loved the premise of this book and was excited to read it.

I really liked Viv when she wasn't focused on her mission. She's smart and funny and loves books. Bonus points for being a blogger. Dallas was adorable and their chemistry was there right from the beginning. There are a lot of great secondary characters: I loved Viv's mom and sort of brother, Toff.

Viv makes a lot of stupid decisions {and even mentions that she's acting like a stupid heroine in a book}. Sadly, even though she knows she's being ridiculous, she does nothing to change course. And that's where I started to get lost. Some scenes felt repeated and I found myself putting the book down to do other things.

Overall, it was a cute story I was invested in. I could have used a lot more banter and kissing, but the ending was perfect.

Just a warning: there is a brief scene of an assault. The intent to rape is said, but it's a drunken struggle that doesn't go anywhere. She knees him in the balls and then he gets the shit kicked out of him. It didn't seem fair to put it on the rape shelf, yet something needed to be said.

Vivian is madly in lust with the bad boy of her town. When he dumps her, her heart is devastated. She vows never to let her lustful hormones get in the way. Her solution? To come up with a Replacement Crush. Someone she has a solitary no chemistry with. That is until a new boy comes into town with his software building smarts and Clark Kent good looks, Vivian starts to realize that she can't help who she falls for.

Well that turned out to be cuter than I expected. Here's a book about slut shaming, making all kinds of stupid mistakes, being absolutely clueless in love and being a little narcissistic that you can't even see that you're hurting people in the long run. This has it all for the teen audience. It reads a little younger than I'm used to, but also be wary of sexual assault that happens. I for one think it's important that it's shown in books today because we shouldn't shelter the younger generation of such abuses.

This is also one of the most slow-burn romances I've ever read because of sheer stubbornness! I felt like it dragged on took long and that's why I didn't quickly read this. It didn't interest me because of the slow pacing. We all know there's going to be a big climatic ending so that's what I was waiting for and Lisa Brown Roberts definitely delivered it. Vivian is definitely a teenage character going through the motions of finding her voice and realizing how strong she can actually be. I loved that her mother is an author and owns a book store. That is the dream! I also love that she's a book blogger and seeing some of her reviews where definitely adorable. I loved that she came to terms with who she wanted to be. Standing up for herself even if there were someone there like Toff to help her. I loved her friends (even when they were being intrusive) because they cared so much about her. And then there's Dallas who I pretty much guessed is biracial due to his last name. So yay on the diverse front! There's also mentions of her Korean best friend and queer best friend. Though I know these were shoved as minor characters.. Slowly but surely we're getting there aren't we? We just need more.

Pick this one up if you're looking to put a smile on your face! Or if you're in the mood for a quick contemporary romance.

This book was just so cute! Add a side of nerdy-ness and you've got the perfect beach read. Those who are fans of a fun, cute, contemporary books then you should totally pick this one up!

Vivian and total Trekkie and book blogger lives with her mom and works with her mom in a book store. Every book lover's dream right? well after a heartbreaking brush-off from a long-time crush whom she's been having a summer affair with. Viv decides to come up with a plan to turn her attention to a replacement crush by finding perfectly safe crushes to help move on. I like Vivian, she's smart, a nerd, kind and not a total brat which I so appreciate in a female character. She's easy to connect with and even though I may have rolled my eyes a bit she was still an overall good character.
Enter equally nerdy but HOT new guy Dallas. Sorry when I pictured his character I couldn't help but think of Dylan, I mean he's was just so perfect for what I pictured! totally Cute. Everything about him was pure awesome-sauce. His antics will make you chuckle-which is a huge deal for me-he's funny, sweet, and a all around good guy! I absolutely love him and think he is realistic which is so important for young readers when it comes to a swoon worthy male character!
The story was just full of cute and fun stuff with some total nerdy things that will make any one want to binge watching after reading this book.

Overall: It's a fun contemporary read especially of fans of Kasie West which I am so yes, pick this book up! Totally worth it!

I really liked the synopsis of The Replacement Crush but found the story just okay. I felt it was a slow starter. Vivian manages to hook up with her long-term crush only to find he is a player. Now she wants to replace him with someone more worthy. She is a nerd and a blogger. She wants to dress more grown up and wants to be noticed by boys. She wants to find a safe boy who is reliable rather than giving her that zing feeling.

There's a new boy at school and he seems to be in all the places Viv usually goes. He's a hot-nerd and has just started a job at the bookstore she works at. They come up with the replacement crush mission but maybe Viv can find more than a rebound.

This is the second book I've read by Lisa Brown Roberts. They are both nerdy reads and adds sci-fi fans an extra treat. This is a second look ARC. My review is my own and honest.

Sorry not for me but an ok read. 3 stars out of 5.

The Replacement Crush is a cute, if dramatic, read. I found most of the characters rather irritating, especially Vivian, but I'm glad she apologized to everyone at the end because the heroine's mistakes are glossed over way too often. I liked Dallas, though, and enjoyed the banter between him and Vivian. I also liked how the book addressed the double standards in slut-shaming and sexual coercion, as well as the common stereotypes about the homeless.

The Replacement Crush is the perfect summer read! Light-hearted and fun, it was definitely a cute read and one I really enjoyed.

Vivian spent the summer making out with her long-time crush and is looking forward to the first day of school where they’ll eat lunch together and kiss between classes… but that’s not to be, and her first day doesn’t go quite as planned. She decides that her next crush is going to be someone safe so she starts a list and makes a plan. In the meantime, she’ll work in her mom’s bookstore and keep blogging about the romance novels she reads!

Enter Dallas, the nerdy but hot new guy. He’s working at the bookstore too, helping design software to make running the store easier! Vivian is determined to ignore each and every clue that he’s the guy for her because she’s not willing to put her heart on the line for anyone again.

I managed to read this in a day. There’s nothing new here as far as contemporary YA goes, but it’s written in a way that will have you turning pages! Vivian and Dallas have some great chemistry, though admittedly I could have used a bit more kissing!

If you’re a fan of nerdy guys and stories low on the drama, get your hands on this, I think you’ll be surprised how much you enjoy it!

If you like slow burn romances with a tons of metafictional elements and LOL moments, then you'll definitely want to check out The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts.

Vivian is a bookstore employee, a book club organizer, and a romance novel book blogger, so as you can imagine, this book amounts to a love letter from the author to her fans (and if you weren't a fan of Lisa's yet, you probably will be after you experience all things Vivian and Dallas). She makes tons of bad choices when it comes to love, but she also calls herself out on it when she says she's a TSTL heroine (a.k.a. Too Stupid to Live), and had this reader laughing, not frustrated.

Dallas is a herd-hot guy who is new in town and who is a genius when it comes to computers, so he is hired by Vivian's mom to develop a database system for their bookstore. He is often described in reference to his glasses, which calls to mind a Clark Kent / Superman vibe that many readers won't want to miss.

If you love McNerdy guys, then don't miss this one, coming on September 6th!

The Replacement Crush was smile inducing and absolutely adorable! With a book blogging girl, an adorkable and swoon worthy guy and a group of friends who I wished were mine too, The Replacement Crush was such a huge hit. The story was set in a cute little beach town and with so many of the scenes happening in a book store, oh my heart, this story had it all. If you love ya romance, talking about books and falling in love then definitely add this one to your tbr!
The romance in my life existed between the covers, all right. The covers of books.

Viv's mom wanted to modernize their book store, so she hired Dallas, the new kid in town to create software for them. The first few times Viv and Dallas ran into each other, I couldn't stop the laughter or becoming completely obsessed with them. They were so awkward, yet funny at the same time. And while I wanted something to happen between them, Viv was determined that nothing would. Her heart had just been stomped on by her childhood crush, so she wanted to find her replacement crush. Someone who was safe and she wouldn't fall head over heels for. But true love isn't something you can plan out, so I had a good feeling that Viv was setting herself up for the most epic disaster ever. Especially since Dallas was always around and seemed like someone she could fall for.
The way he’d looked at me; the way he’d held me. Was it all my crazy imagination?

Dallas Lang was the ultimate book boyfriend. He was thoughtful, sweet, caring, charismatic and sigh worthy. He definitely rocked the nerd vibe with his glasses and Star Trek knowledge but he also had this whole Clark Kent thing going on. I. Was. Obsessed. He was the strong yet sometimes silent type, and he seemed to observe more than Viv ever wanted him too. But since we only got to hear from Viv, Dallas felt like a mystery to me. So I desperately wanted to know what was going on in his head and what all of his secrets were!
I was like a one-girl tornado, leaving a pile of rubble in my wake.

I loved being in Viv's head and joining her on her journey. She had so much to learn, and she grew in leaps and bounds by the end of the story. But Viv made a lot of mistakes along the way. Especially since she didn't have a lot of experience with boys, so you have to be patient with her. She even acknowledged her mistakes by calling herself tstl at one point lol. But Viv was quick witted and funny, so I was rooting for her every step of the way.
He tilted my chin up, making my breath catch as my eyes met his.
“You’re sure you aren’t interested in chemistry? Not even as bonus criteria?” His voice was low and sexy.
“I’m s-sure,” I barely stammered out the words before his lips claimed mine.

When Viv and Dallas were around each other, there was always a spark between them. And since they had to work together a few times a week, that spark seemed to burn even brighter as time went on. While some of those moments were sweet and had me sighing out loud, other times I was laughing and screaming because of their antics. Their banter was hilarious! But it didn't matter how hot some of those moments felt, Viv was determined to stick to her guns and find a guy that didn't set off her zing meter. And Dallas constantly was setting it off for her. And for me too.
You can do this, Viv. Just pretend you’re in one of your books.
The question was, what type of book? Would I finally get my happy ending or was this going to be an ugly-cry ending?

With book stores, book clubs, bookish lingo and books weaved throughout this story, you couldn't stop my smiling. And with side characters that I found myself caring for just as deeply, this book was such a huge win! Amy, Jaz, Viv's mom and Toff were my favorites. You guys have to meet Toff! He's like Viv's brother and he stole every single scene he was in. I'm so happy he got his own book, The Book Worm Crush! So yes, I definitely recommend this book! The Replacement Crush is for all the book and romance lovers out there! I can't ever recommend Lisa Brown Roberts' books enough!

I adore this book. It is such a cute summer read, light, funny, perfect for reading a lovely afternoon in a coffee shop or a sunny day at the beach.

If I were to equate this to another summer classic it would be a banana split. You know what you're getting, but you still savor every bite because, although it is a well-known combination/formula, it is still delightful. And in some cases has its own little surprises and embellishments.

Is this book mind bogglingly original? No, but hey it is fun - and sometimes that's all you really need. And it's a classic reminder that we can all be stupid when it comes to love sometimes, but it is up us to follow our hearts. Because love is worth the risk.

Books with annoying main characters from the start never really end up being my favourites, even tho it´s part of their development I don´t want to be annoyed by someone for 60% of the book. Overall there was a sweet ending and some cute scenes, but overall not my fav.

I really, really wanted to like this one. The premise sounded so perfect. But the main character kind of ruined it for me. She even refers to herself as TSTL (too stupid to live) and writes a note to her blog readers about how she's the idiot girl you're always screaming at "to stop the crazy." Sure, the book had its moments, but those were far and few between. And I kept having to check when this story was written because the text speak and phrasing made it feel OLD. Plus, I didn't like the subtle digs at reviewers who aren't "nice" when they don't like a book.

“Nerd hot was most definitely a thing.”

Oh goodness, I’m not sure there are enough words in the English language to articulate how much I loved this book. It was all the romance of Lisa Brown Roberts in true form, sprinkled with a Gilmore Girls and The O.C.-like crossover setting, and a nerdy love interest that reminded me of Dylan O’Brien with glasses. Yes—this book was spectacular.

“’Girls can be strong and independent and still want to fall in love, but with the right person who appreciates those qualities.’”

Vivian Galdi spent nine days of her summer living out her fantasy of Jake, her crush since kindergarten, reciprocating her feelings. When she started back school he acted like nothing had ever happened, so she had to do recon: find a replacement for her raging teenage hormones. Firstly, I loved how Vivian’s hormones were basically another character in the novel, and they sounded a lot like Spock. Secondly, Vivian was a booknerd. Roberts did the booknerd community justice, even adding a few reviews from Viv’s review blog for readers to see how like-minded she is with the rest of us. She fangirled over romances the most, the stereotypical, bare-chested kind, which resulted in many laugh-out-loud moments. With her black curls and oversized t-shirts, Viv is the kind of girl that you could talk to about the difference between time loop and time slip for hours. What’s not to love about that?

“The romance in my life existed between the covers, all right. The covers of books.”

Okay, giving me a hero with glasses might be better than any romance I’ve ever read before. Though Jase Garrett, Parker Madison, and Bryan Lakewood seriously give him a run for his money. However, that’s the best thing about book boyfriends—you can have as many as you want and no one gets jealous! Dallas Lang stole my book-loving heart with his witty banter, geeky shirts, and messy brown hair. I want one, a Dallas. He had a few secrets that made him all the better when everything came to light. Vespa Guy or McNerd, whichever delightful nickname you choose for him, made me smile like a maniac and is most definitely, undeniably crush-worthy.

“’Maybe. But wouldn’t you rather fall in love for real than just read about it?”

A lot of the story takes place in a bookstore, so it has that going for it. The town had a je ne sais quoi about it. I wanted to escape to the beach and throw my cares away. Viv’s friends were great supporting characters and had depth of their own. I felt like I knew the people of Shady Cove by the time I had finished the book and would like to see more of them (Toff and Amy maybe????). Hipster me would love to see more of this town, but if that’s not the case, I’ve had my fill.

“…our easy friendship settling around me like a comfy old hoodie.”

I had slight trepidation when I saw the cover. It’s different than Roberts’s other covers, though she has no control over that, and I really enjoyed Resisting the Rebel. The story inside did not disappoint, so my qualms over the cover have no merit (but who wouldn’t love to see some of Jaz’s artwork, amiright? But I digress). The Replacement Crush is another successful read by Lisa Brown Roberts and gave me all the McNerdy feels a girl could ask for, not to mention a kindred spirit, Viv. A hearty go-go boots rating from Moriah at A Leisure Moment, and I think Sweet Feet from the Hunkalicious Reader would agree.

“’True love can be strategized. It just…happens.’”

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

This book was a dead cute and fast read - perfect for the summer. Vivian is a blogger and Star Trek fan, who adores working with her mam in the local bookstore. She has had a crush on Jake for ages, and over the summer they got close, and kissed. He's now denying anything happened, and giving her the complete brush off. Feeling heartbroken, Vivian now decides that the only people she can crush on are safe bets, those who won't break her heart. Well, enter Dallas. He's cute, nerdy, and perfect for Vivian. She's determined not to let him in, but it seems as if the world is against her, as he is now working at the bookstore, doing tech repair and software development. Their chemistry is so clear that it's hard for readers to cope with how much of a slow burn their romance is.

Vivian is a real character. She's not perfect - in fact she often makes mistakes - but she grows as the book does. Sometimes, I wanted to shake her, but she herself claimed she wasn't perfect, and acknowledged her faults. Her and Dallas really were made for each other, and for a quick summer read, their romance was just what I wanted.

Part of the plot was unnecessary, some parts that I actively disliked, but all in all, an enjoyable book, and I'll probably read more from this author in future.

This was a decent enough fluff read until Vivian (the main character) is assaulted with her assailant intending to rape her. Is the assault reported to the police? No, does she tell her mother no, does the guy who assaulted her get his ass kicked by her hot crush? Yes. Is that really the message we should be sending young women? Just let the hot guy take care of it? Sure the dudes Jake (the assailant) hangs out with shun him, but otherwise no repercussions. Vivian was assaulted even if she didn't have the ultimate violation. I just find this to be shocking, or am I missing something here? Why is this act of violence practically brushed over? Weak.

This review was originally posted on Latte Nights Reviews.

Would I finally get my happy ending or was this going to be an ugly-cry ending?

Vivian is a book blogger, book nerd and Star Trek geek. She has every book lover's job: working at a book store, owning a successful blog, and holding book club meetings. Her mom is an author who writes Mystery novels and is the owner of the book store. Viv had a great summer with Jake. Unfortunately, when classes start, he "dumps" Viv by appearing with another girl in his arms. This is when the Replacement Crush mission comes to live. She wants someone she can crush on, but not develop feelings for. Suddenly, a new student arrives and Viv's mission may just go down the drain.

"Guys shouldn't become an obsession," [...] "Think of them as sprinkles on the donuts of life. Fun, but not necessary."

I wasn't sure if I would like Viv. For someone so young (in her teens), she was very...obsessed when it came to guys. She blamed it all on her hormones so she needed a "cure" for them. I also found her to be a bit shallow. I'm happy to announce that Viv had a major growth in character that could be seen through the story. She had help from her friends and Dallas, the new student, but she realized her mistakes all on her own and took responsibility for them.

I'd hurt too many people, pretending I was the star of the show and others were just minor characters without real feelings.

Dallas, also known as Vespa Guy (he rides a Vespa), is the new guy in town and all the girls take notice of him. He's also a nerdy guy, just like Viv! He meets Viv at school, but they spend lots of time at the book store since Viv's mom hired Dallas to set the book store in the 21st century (or 20th century). Viv wanted so badly to ignore Dallas. She wanted to be unattached and not have feelings, but Dallas made it impossible. He's a great guy who's so kind to his family and little sister. Dallas' intentions in the beginning had me confused because I wasn't sure if he liked Viv, but his feelings for her started to blossom and I was so shipping this! The romance is so shippable, innocent and oh-so sweet!

Something needed to happen to refocus my hormones, and fast, because right now they were way too focused on Vespa Guy. And his mysterious tattoo.

Viv's mom was amazing! I could see so much of my mom in her. She's very responsible over her daughter, always watching out for her, but at the same time, she's Viv's friend. Their relationship was so beautiful to read and her mom gave awesome advice. Also, her mom's a mystery author so reading about ways she should kill someone off had me laughing, especially if a person had hurt Viv. She really had her daughter's back.

"So many ways to die, so little time to write about them."

The friendships in this story had me grinning so hard. I need to start with Jaz. I don't think I've ever read a character similar to Jaz. She's so unique, it's not even funny. At the same time, I think we all have a Jaz in our lives. She's out-spoken, bold, loud. She's also that type of friend that you tell to not look at your crush, and she'll make a big show of staring. But she'll be there for you no matter what and I loved that about her. She knew Viv's RC mission wasn't a great idea, but she supported her friend and even gave her ideas.

Toff is Viv's step-brother and their relationship was the highlight for me. They have been best friends since they were kids and their friendship has only grown over the years. They are so close and count on each other a lot. Toff is also a unique character. He's cocky, but in a good way. He loves to joke around a lot. But when things get serious, he'll be the guy you want to call. I was so happy to see Toff being there for Viv when she needed it the most and he did a great job at supporting her.

Overall, The Replacement Crush is a light, page-turner, feel-good story that will have you grinning so much, your cheeks will hurt.

"‘I need to think about it,’ I said, picturing Spock’s stern gaze. ‘I need to handle this logically.’ We slid into our chairs and Jaz gave me her patented you’re-insane-but-still-my-best-friend look. ‘Logically? Who falls in love logically?’"

Oh my, half-Vulcan heart, this book was so stinking cute!!

Vivian was ready to start a new school year. After spending several weeks lip locking with the guy she had crushed on forever, she is determined to get their relationship in the public eye, until she is let down and her heart is broken. The fix for a Trekkie nerd? Think logically like Spock! Find a new guy for her hormones to focus on with minimal zing, meaning: her heart won’t be too invested for another potential heartbreak. In her pursuit to finding the most neutral boy that doesn’t send her zing meter over a 5 out of 10 she meets Dallas, the nerd-hot new boy who sends her zing meter into a whole new galaxy. Determined not to let her heart get away with her hormones she decides that Dallas is the one guy who should not be her replacement crush, no matter how she wants to fall into his buff nerd hot arms.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I was in high school I definitely did this. Well, sort of. The whole gotta find some someone new to obsess over since it hurts too much to think of this other guy that ripped my heart into shreds. What I loved about this book was that Vivian had so many opportunities to have the guy she actually wanted but was just too stubborn to admit her own feelings. It was her own stupidity that caused herself and others heartache.

All our characters were believable and each had their own personality. Vivian was spectacular. It was refreshing not to have such an amazing hot girl who didn’t think she was hot. She was sleeper beautiful, like every girl has her own beauty. She may be a little curvy and envy the surfer girls, but what teenage girl doesn’t have esteem issues and envy another girl, heck what girl in general is 100 percent okay with her appearance? Dallas was such a cute hero for the story and the nerdy interactions he had worked so perfectly with Vivian and her Vulcan inspired mission. The nerdiness they both had just made my heart soar. Like really the book was like a huge rally call for nerds that aren’t ashamed of being, well nerdy. I was so glad that Jake never had a redeeming moment where we are like, aww he’s an actual nice guy. Because that’s life, there are some actual d-bags in real life and all his actions were plausible.

Such an adorable story pointing out that you can’t force yourself to just like someone else. Love happens when it happens and there is no helping your feelings when your heart is involved.

Vivian's mother is a writer who also owns a bookstore. That means Vivian has her dream after school job. She spends as much time at the bookstore as she can and her favorite genre is romance. She writes about it on her blog and she runs a book club. Vivian prefers reading about love in books, her own love life is messy and she certainly didn't get her happy ending. She was in love with the same guy for years and when he finally noticed her he used her and broke her heart. She's done with love and makes a list of possible candidates who can't hurt her because she doesn't like them enough to care. It seems like a perfect plan, but what happens when she meets someone she does like enough to feel something?

Vivian's mother has hired Dallas, the new guy at Vivian's school, to work on a project for the bookshop. He's a computer genius and the store needs a software system. Dallas is smart enough to design it. Working together with him makes Vivian's heart beat faster, but she's promised herself she won't listen to her feelings any longer. Dallas is a hot nerd, Vivian's exact dream guy, but she can't be brokenhearted again. Will she eventually be prepared to take the chance or has Vivian been crushed too much to ever consider dating someone she actually likes again?

The Replacement Crush is a great love story. Vivian is a sweetheart. She is trustworthy, generous and kind. I instantly liked her. I did want to talk some sense into her every now and then, but understood her problems as well. She has a lot of growing up to do and it was fun to witness her journey. She likes Dallas from the start, but she doesn't want to and keeps fighting it. He's an adorable guy with a wonderful sense of humor. He's incredibly talented as well and has a confidence that made me smile. He's kind and caring and his openness about his feelings made my heart melt. Dallas and Vivian have an amazing connection. I loved their conversations, they're intelligent and funny. They have sparkling chemistry and it's clear from the start that they're made for each other. I couldn't wait to find out if Vivian would take that final, very scary, step.

Lisa Brown Roberts writing is vivid and I love the way she describes her settings. I kept wishing I could visit the bookshop, it's a dreamy place filled with the most fantastic books and charming customers. It's a special shop where magic happens, which made the story even more romantic for me. I love it when a book has nerdy main characters, so that was a big bonus as well. The Replacement Crush is a sweet and flirty book that also has a good amount of depth. I really enjoyed reading this endearing story.

THE REPLACEMENT CRUSH was somewhat unexpected. The heroine is a bookworm who finds that the new guy who helps out at her mom's bookstore connects with her over Star Trek, among other things. There's a great group of friends, a fantastic mother/daughter relationship, some serious book geekishness with a book club and a book blog, one loser of a guy, and then some nice twists and turns to pull off this contemporary romance. If you enjoy your YA reads with some serious chemistry, plenty of geekishness (both of the book and Star Trek variety), lots of drama, and a sweet romance, then you might fall in love with this one.

The beginning of this story started right into the drama with Vivian falling for a player when she should have known better. I wanted to so roll my eyes because I thought anyone would see that coming. Seriously, why are girls so silly sometimes and why are some guys such jerks? Anyway, the friends and the humor and the totally hot Dallas with all the banter, kept me going. I also loved the Star Trek quotes at the beginning of each chapter. The play off of Spock's Vulcan advice was also fun (although by the end, it was a little overdone). The chemistry was right on and clean. The drama was definitely present although a little overdone towards the end as the story felt a little stretched out. There were also a few things that didn't quite work for me (like Vivian not talking to her mom about something towards the end or her mom not saying anything about scratches on Vivian's face - it's like that whole thing kind of disappeared). The ending was really fun and I've now got a song stuck in my head (good thing it's a classic).

In the end, was it what I wished for? It was a fun and enjoyable read. I would have liked it cleaner and some things not quite so over-the-top, but again, definitely entertaining with a swoon-worthy, but sweet romance as well as plenty of moments that made me laugh.

Content: Some innuendo, attempted rape, some swearing (including a few f-bombs), references to gay relationships.

4 “I want a McNerdy” Stars

ARC via NetGalley.

Thank you, Entangled Teen!

Well, Lisa Brown Roberts... I’m becoming a fan.

A few weeks ago (maybe a little longer) I read “Resisting the Rebel” by this same author, and let me tell you, it was sooo good and sooo hot! Go read it. Here’s my review in case you’re still in doubt.

Anyway... when I saw “The Replacement Crush” had been written by Mrs. Roberts too I immediately developed a serious case of *grabby hands*. I wanted it, and I wanted it bad. Thankfully I got it and it didn’t disappoint.

TRC is the story of book blogger Vivian, who’s a romance addict (hello!) and works at the bookstore helping her mother. Vivian’s life revolves around books (hello!), her awesome friends and a crush who broke her heart. The idiot spent all summer kissing her, but as soon as classes started again he pretended he didn’t even know her and moved on to his next target. Devastated, Vivian starts a mission intending on getting over that heartbreak: find a replacement crush.

But Vivian didn’t want to risk getting her heart broken all over again, so the main criteria for her RC was that they should have zero chemistry. That ruled out hot-nerd, new guy Dallas, a.k.a. McNerdy (because apparently Vivian watches Grey’s Anatomy. How I miss the early seasons of that show!).

Dallas is everything you could ask for in a love interest. Mysterious, super smart, great sense of humor, too hot for his own good and a nice guy. Yep, teen me would totally fall for Dallas.

Of course Vivian did, too. While they spent time together while Dallas worked on bringing the bookstore into the computer-age, Vivian ended up falling for Dallas. But Vivian was stubborn and she didn’t want to let go of her RC plan to give the boy who clearly liked her a chance.

See… Vivian could be a bit frustrating at times because she was really stubborn and made things more complicated for herself than she needed to, but she also had a great voice, which made reading about her a lot easier. None of her actions or reactions were bad enough that I wanted to stop reading, but there were a couple of times I wanted to shake some sense into her.

Dallas, on the other hand, was pretty perfect. I loved how nerdy and smart he was. How he kept trying to win Vivian over without being pushy. How he flirted with her and then… okay. No spoilers. But it was hot. Sure I was a little irritated at something he did when Vivian pushed him away, but it wasn’t bad enough to ruin him for me.

Dallas and Vivian had great chemistry, which was both important because of the plot and because who doesn’t like to read about characters with great chemistry? I’m coming to the conclusion that Mrs. Roberts writes romance in a way that speaks to me, because I always find her books have the kind of romance that’s a little more intense and hotter than others from the same genre and publisher.

The rest of the characters were likable, especially best-friend-turned-big-brother, Toff and her successful-mystery-author mother. I loved Vivian’s relationship with both of them, as well as the bromance between Toff and Dallas.

Overall, this was a pretty great read with lots of elements that spoke to me (hello, romance addict book blogger!) and the kind of romance that had me swooning hard. Okay, so when do I get a new book from Lisa Brown Roberts? How about right now?

This is such a glorious book! I'm telling you, it has all the feels packed into an adorable little package. I can't believe that this has been sitting on my kindle for the past two years and I never got around to reading it before now. This book is bookworm gold.

Okay, so reading books out of order isn't typically my thing. A few days ago I decided to read The Bookworm Crush, since it has been marketed as a spinoff and not part of a series, and I loved the ever-loving pieces out of it. As soon as I finished the book, probably before I ever finished it if I'm being honest, I -knew- that I -had- to read The Replacement Crush. Before the ink of my book review for The Bookworm Crush was even dry, I started reading this bad boy. Heck, am I ever glad that I did!

First of all, I have such an appreciation for this author's writing style. The writing is seamless with an effortless flow that draws the reader in. I love the author's voice. I also love that the author's writing reflects the target audience of the book. If this book blew me away, I can't even imagine the epic feels that a young adult would have reading this.

When I read The Bookworm Crush, I fell madly in love with the characters. The author has a surefire way of building excellent relationships in the stories that she tells. The characters truly have meaningful connections. The character development is so very impressive. These characters will get into your head and into your heart while you read their story. They all have such wonderful depth. You really get to know these characters intimately through the writing. I think that is why the story as a whole is so impactful for the reader. The characters are just the bee's knees.

One of the things that I loved best about this book was the romantic chemistry between the two main characters. They had an electric connection that simmered and shook the reader where it counts. Their banter was fiery and kept a smile on my face for the entire book.

The overall plot of the story was executed well. I liked all the foreshadowing and little tidbits that the author accumulated over the course of the book to make the whole thing dazzle.

Another thing that I liked about this book was how the author addressed more sensitive issues. I liked that the author kept them relevant to the target audience and also handled these issues with grace. Some of the issues that I took note of were consent, slut-shaming, and sexual and physical assault.

Overall, this book was a whopping pile of win. I adored this book just as much as The Bookworm Crush. I honestly don't think that I could pick between the two. They are both very special books. For now, I will preach to anyone that will listen of the glorious nature of these two books and I will be keeping this author on my radar in the foreseeable future. This book deserves all the love!

This book was cute and fun to read. At first I had my doubts but I'm glad I gave it a try and it turns out to be better than expected. The plot was obviously predictable but the story was written in a way that kept my interest through out. I really enjoyed all the nerdiness and the witty banters between Vivian and Dallas. If it wasn't for the main protagonist and her stupid decisions, I would've loved it more. This was my second book from Lisa and I would definitely look forward to her next book.

After summer break, book blogger Vivian Galdi’s longtime crush ignores her and pretends their secret summer kissing sessions never happened. She gets rejected just because she didn't slept with him. To overcome her heartbreak, Vivian makes a list of guys to be her replacement crush. Enter hot nerd Dallas aka McNerd, new guy in town who's helping with designing software for their bookstore. As the two start to spend time together, she starts to have second thoughts. Vivian could have another chance in finding love if only she's willing to give up her mission.

Vivian is a relatable character, she was fun, quirky, dorky and book nerd. She's also a book blogger and reviewer who specializes in romance books. Although I liked her, I really can't say that she's a great character because her repeatedly making stupid decisions really irritated me and sometimes I wanted to strangle her and knock some sense into her. Dallas is adorkably hot, intelligent and cute. The relationship between Dallas and Vivian is uber cute. They are both trekkies and even though I'm not a trekkie, I really enjoyed their banters. They connect with each other so well and you can feel their chemistry from the start. Together they are adorable couple and I wish there was more romance in this book. The secondary characters Jaz, Toff, Iggy and Amy are pretty nice who made this book more fun to read.

Except for some parts most of the plot was predictable but it was entertaining enough to hold your attention. The mystery behind Dallas real identity has made it more intriguing and when it was finally revealed I was totally surprised. The story moved in a fast pace and was told in Vivian's Perspective. I liked the writing, it was easy simple, witty and easy to understand.

Overall, I liked it! It was quick, fun and light read. It would make a perfect beach read or summer read. Trigger Warning: There is an attempted rape scene at the second part of the book.

Vivian spent the last part of her summer lying on the beach, kissing her long-time crush. It was wonderful—until he pretended like he didn’t know her on the first day of school. Broken-hearted, Vivian makes a list of potential replacement crushes, but she makes sure they’re not the type of guys that could break her heart again. In the meantime, fireworks start shooting off every time she’s around Dallas, the new boy in school. Since he could definitely break her heart, she isn’t going to entertain THAT idea at all…

The Replacement Crush is a cute read. Like most romances, it’s not going to change your life or shatter your world, but it’s a fun bit of escape. I especially loved that Vivian is a book blogger. She even shares her reviews of a few books in the story. I liked the slow buildup between Vivian and Dallas. While their attraction to each other is immediate, they don’t rush into a relationship. Granted, their slowpoke ways fit with Vivian’s mission to not fall for anyone again.

While it’s a cute story, it feels very similar to most other YA romances. It has a lot of the same things I’ve seen a hundred times before, so if you read a lot of YA, you might feel like you’ve already read this book. However, if you enjoy reading young adult romances, you’ll probably like this book. Recommended for ages 14+ due to some of the content.

Content: Cursing (including f-bombs), attempted rape, kissing, and innuendo.

Ok I realise this book has problems, and really it's more like a 3.5 star read if i felt like being objective, which I don't, because whatever faults there were with this story, it kept me smiling pretty much through out.

One of the main issues I had with this book is that it felt too long for a ya teen contemporary. Honestly if the MC didn't keep making the same silly decisions over and over and over I'm pretty sure this could have been cut down to a 300 page count. I like a stubborn character that doesn't see what's right in front of their face, but I also like them to realise their stupidity after screwing up once. Unlike our heroine who just kept up with her silly plan even after she was told it wasn't working.

Dallas, the swoonworthy other half, is just too good to be true believable. Cello player, coder, decent teenage boy, that other thing. Like, boy is giving me a serious complex about where my life is compared to where it should be when I'm like a gazillion years older than him.

The MC's decision to not tell anyone about the scary behaviour of Jake the Snake. SERIOUSLY?

So yes problems. But like I said this book kept me smiling like a moron, which is an achievement because I am not a trekkie fan. I don't think I've even seen it, so some of the references went over my head, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story.

I received a copy via netgalley.

3.5 star rating

Quirky, geeky (lots of Star Trek references that sadly flew right over my head I wasn't big into the show or anything. So I didn't get majority of them, sad I know.) but it had great bookish nerdyness in it, witty (lots of banter and chatter amongst the cast of this story so it was nice that everyone wasn't shy nerds but had good banter and they had the artist, the book junkies, the all around mcnerd, a few sporty surfers. So the variety was definitely there)
The plot was reasonable nothing too spectacular to keep up on not sure I'd do a reread it was a bit mildly romantic and I was kinda hoping for a smidge more from it. It's very PG swear words are almost a myth in it and no steamy scenes though a few times they discuss books and that are obviously getting more action then any of these guys.
Again it's more of a cute light hearted read.
