Living near the beach in his RV with his cat, Walker just wants to relax and savor the good life in Florida. But when he gets a call from the wife of a Key West crime boss asking for a favor, he knows he can't refuse. She wants him to track down a mystery man and doesn't want her husband to find out about it. If he does, Walker could be in serious trouble. And if he doesn't find the guy, the trouble could be a lot worse. To complicate matters, Walker partners up with a hot-tempered redhead looking for the same man. Together they dig into the underbelly of Florida's east coast while trying their best to avoid bullets and mayhem. Ride along with Walker and his cat, Mango Bob, as they try to avoid trouble that seems to follow them everywhere they go. A fun read.
Think “Magnum PI” (80s version) but replace Hawaii with Florida and switch out the Ferrari 308 GTS for a RV with slides and you have “Mango Motel”. Although the story arc more “Murder She Wrote” than explosive high octane chopper chases. I liked this book and I can see how the author has found himself a large fanbase, No doubt with a sold core of cat ladies and camper van radicals! My only critique was our very chaste leading lady Erin would never even offer up to pay for the occasional lunch. Poor Walker always has his hand in his pocket and a scantily clad side kick squeeze that for most of the book has a solid look but no touch rule!
Another great book in the series. Walker and Bob live thru another compelx adventure. Walker once again associated with a bit of an overbearing woman but apparently finally gets to have a true relationship with her. Way to go Walker! Anxiously to see how it develops in the follow on book which I am already reading. Really enjoy all the books in this series......
At times this book seemed to ramble as a strategy to fill up pages. It does bother me tha our hero always picks up the tab and appears too eager to please. I just feel that the first two books in the series we much better
Again, another quick and fun read starring Walker and Mango Bob. This one had quite a bit of excitement and I enjoyed learning a bit about St. Augustine. My only problem is that Walker is becoming a bit of a doormat with the women he meets. They are all bossy, demanding and always tell him he has to pay for everything. And he just follows along wallet in hand... It's great that he's such a nice guy but he needs to learn how to stop letting women walk all over him. Imo.
This is my first Mango Bob book, but certainly won't be my last. It's a fun story with great characters and of course a wonderful cat! I'm going now to pick up another Bob book.
Captivating story and keeps me fascinated and entranced. Some of the best writing I have enjoyed! For intrigue and RV advocates this is a total must.
Captivating story and keeps me fascinated and entranced. Wonderful writing character which creates a flow which keeps the mind busy. Great adventures and with RV overtones a special interest to that group of friends.
I went into this expecting a Carl Hiassen-style Screwball/Satirical Florida crime-comedy. It's not that, not quite. It's in Florida, and there is crime, and it has a small cast of characters who could be screwball, but are mostly played straight. Even the cat behaves believably like a cat and not like a space alien out of a 70s Disney movie. It's mostly normal, or nearly normal people getting involved in things that it's reasonable they get involved with. Florida is merely the backdrop that tosses in the occasional curveball - like a sinkhole on I-75 that is used to extend the plot and characterization a little further than it might have been without it.
It's a relaxed minor private investigator mystery with believable characters that you can actually care about. And it's tied up at the end enough that if you don't want to head for the next book, you don't have to - but there was a last chapter hook that invited you to come along with the central characters as they were heading somewhere else - to get out of the Florida summer, which is very believable.
This book starts with a pretty startling arrest and quickly goes back to the week before. I was in limbo for quite some time. wondering what on earth Walker had gotten into, and how he would ever clear his name! Myers' fantastic storytelling kept me glued to the book to the very end! Probably one of the most exciting books yet-and not many chances for Walker to do his usual "tough guy" routine. This one was different and all in a good way! I loved it!
Bill tells a good yarn and even though there is always a bit of time to wait for them to come out it’s always a real pleasure to read his work.
Only downside to all his stories is his ongoing subservience to his female characters....would be good if he grew a little hair around Walkers bits ‘n pieces
I love the entire Mango Bob series. Th EVer named Walker travels with an "inherited" cat who loves to watch the new scenery as they head for unique destinations in Florida. They meet interesting people who introduce the travelers to fun, adventure, and dangerous situations. Never a dull moment.
I have read all of them up to this one and my only regret is that there is only one more. The characters are memorable, the escapades are fun and I have learned a lot about Florida. Give it a try...
This is a worthy book that provides a pleasurable read. Bob makes the story because he does what all cats do....lead you to provide their every desire.can't help but love them
Loved every minute of this the ninth book in the eleven book series. And just like the others your attention is grabbed right from the start and held until the end. The saga continues.
Where’s Waldo? Not the kid’s character. This is a different Waldo. We know that he’s in St Augustine but where exactly? That’s the question Walker is trying to answer. Another good story.
I liked the book but it was not as great as the previous. Still a five star to me because of the omission of profanity. Can hardly wait to get started on the next one.
Really not worth ur time unless ur sitting in the sand at the beach. Have mother beer, and continue reading - not recommended, but will continue to the next one.
Best story yet. I have enjoyed all the books so far, but this was the best of all. Loved all the twists and turns. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you and keep writing!
