Suitcase of Dreams

Rate this book
Hazell McKenzie’s path of descent to deliverance is a stunning testament to her determination as a woman, and as a mother.
This path began as a bright-eyed, teenaged island girl who migrated to the US but curved quickly downward toward depression, anxiety, fear, stagnation, and all the difficulties that come with them.
Time and time again, through every downward curve, Hazell’s path has tested her patience, her drive, and her faith. Yet, time and time again, she has risen like a phoenix blazing a trail upwards, to success.
This story, Hazell’s story, is an inspiration to all. With every twist and turn of Hazell’s life, you may feel your own life-changing.

And it all started with a Suitcase of Dreams

ARC: Suitcase of Dreams is the story of Hazell McKenzie. It talks about her life as a child immigrating to the United States. It also talks about her life living in New York and all the hardships she went through. It all leads up to her time on Food Networks Worst Cooks in America.

I really enjoyed this book. It is filled with a lot of emotions and I felt all of them as I read this book. I got so much out of reading this and I will definitely read it again. I highly recommend this book and already plan to buy copies for my friends for Christmas.

This was, over all, a great book. There were things in it that could have benefited from having an editor, but I don't think this author had the luxury of having one. I don't usually like memoirs, but, I really enjoyed this.

This is a first time reading a book by this author. When I first started reading I thought this was a fiction storyline, after reading more I realized this was a memoir of the author.
Hazell . McKenzie had a lot of life’s ups and downs with family, education, jobs and relationship with her daughter’s father. All of this left Hazell with having a mental health problem and feeling that God was not there for her, if he was she wouldn’t be living in turmoil.
This was an interesting read, at times I felt emotions of sadness, anger and that when it rains it pours. Happiness of knowing no matter how long it takes don’t give up on your dreams for your life.
