Shadows and Shade #3

Kitten and Allure

Rate this book
With Tanakan prison empty of its most powerful and dangerous criminals, and a tyrant with insurmountable power and a thirst for death still named as Crown, the Silvari and human worlds are on the edge of a catastrophe they may never recover from.

While most of the Silvari spend their days in ignorance of the darkness looming in their futures, Shade’s pentad are the only ones willing to stare it in the eye. The real question is, can they figure out the true meaning of their mother’s prophecy in time for it to turn the tides of the impending battle for the crown?

Commander Pax is relearning how to live in a world where he now has so much to lose, and the demon inside him refuses to let go of the reason they’ve decided to love again. Roarke, haunted by the memory of the people his power has devoured, must overcome his self-loathing to truly open up to the opportunity right in front of him. Seth and his chaos are keeping the pentad together, bringing light into the darkness and helping them find the little moments of joy in the midst of all those who seek to destroy them. Killian must start to confront the demons of his past when Shade’s hatred of secrets opens doors he’d rather keep tightly locked.

Kitten and Allure, the dual-perspective third installment in the Shadows and Shade series. It is a slow burn RH that brings readers to the edge of the forest, suspiciously near a place that still haunts Shade’s dreams.

So close to the memories that are literally left behind in the jagged patterns on her wrists and back, will Shade uncover the truth of who and what she is? Will the pentad discover the depths of Lithael’s plan before it’s too late to salvage the Silvari and human realms?

And most importantly, will Shade live long enough to eat her bodyweight in chocolate?

I’m binge reading this series but I’m a bit bored, things are moving really slowly, some characters are slightly annoying. The plot is repetitive and nothing really truly happens. I want to be in love with this series but it’s just “okay” in my opinion. I’m still curious about the way things are going to progress for our MCs but it’s so freaking slow and long and dragged.
Every books is the same, the plot is recycled again and again.

More of a 3.5 for me. While this one improved on the first book in the series, I felt it dragged and lagged in so many spots. I realize that slow burn in some ways implies that the characters have a lot of time on page to get to know one another. So the assumption is that there isn’t a lot of plot-moving action happening while characters...dunno...lounge about? It sure felt that way, as Shade and Seth went about menial tasks like washing clothes (and flirting/kissing), baking bread (and flirting/kissing), and Shade trained with Killian. This book spent about 60% on the above, with some here-and-there battles and then a final you-guys-are-dumbasses-why-didn’t-you-trust-Shade plot bombs.

I honestly cannot STAND Pax right now, and he might be ruining the book for me. In fact, almost all the guys continue to suck. Essentially everyone discounts Shade by bossing her around, deliberately keeping her out of conversations about their plans (or her magical anomaly), and even going so far as to “drag her along” (bodily) when they want her to come. Reading it doesn’t sound so bad, I guess, but can you imagine someone picking you up by your shirt scruff and pulling you along with them? Can you imagine forgiving someone who, in a moment of magic, threw a rock at your head so hard it bled in order to stop it from happening? Can you imagine forgiving these people over and over again, with laughs and a smile?

I sure can’t. The guys continue to basically treat her like shit—even their form of protection involves controlling everything about her, patting her on the head like a dog, and forcing “human” behavior on her like eating, sleeping, and washing. And . I want Shade to stand up for herself more—she’s starting to—but I really want her to just put them in their places for once. It’s the main thing I’m hoping for in the next books.

Still 5 stars after a re-read because somehow I missed things. This series has so many layers to it

This series sucks me in like magic until all I can think about is what is going to happen next, how Shade will meet the next challenge and now Seth and his Chaos will make me laugh.
The stakes are even higher with Shades bubble shrinking and plenty of revelations. Many times I wanted to reach in and shout "trust your gut!" because Shade has great instincts. Book 4 is going to be intense!

This book could have easily been 400 pages and been interesting if it hadn't been unnecessarily dragged to 650 pages with the lead female character whining about something every 5 minutes. She is extremely annoying, keeps getting jealous and doing stupid things to the point of almost sabotaging the plans and positions of the brothers. People are dying and disappearing and all she seems to care about is who she's going to kiss next.
The author wants to show the bond established between the lead character and brothers but some points become very repetitive. They're all kissing and pushing her away every few chapters. There are few instances where something interesting happens in the book and only the last 50 chapters actually have something worth reading. The guys just keep pushing her around and make decisions for her without considering her feelings and she throws tantrums till some seconds later someone kisses her and she willingly forgets all of it. The book had a lot of potential but it was dragged. Hopefully the next ones are better since the whole major discovery about Shade.

Epic

I started to read this book as soon as the preorder popped up on my kindle - then had to back track and read the first two for a solid refresh. It’s not that it’s hard to understand, but just so much happens, and the politics of the world are incredibly dicey. That reread made things much clearer and paced the way for this wonderful book, a wonderfully LONG book!! It’s probably twice the length of book 1 and oh so worth it. We get some answers, a bit of heat, a ton of action and enough foreshadowing to last the groundwork for book 4. And pay attention to that foreshadowing, from ALL the books. A throw away line may just become pivotal later on!

First person, multiple POV, YA Fantasy, Cliffhanger.
Rating = listed as YA, though language and violence push it to an acceptable R. No censorship required, just awareness.
Character age range = 18+

Pros:
- Very well written.
- I am head over heels for all these characters, they are all so different!
- Foreshadowing isn’t in your face or on the nose, but present.
- long!!! Yay!!
- Details matter.
- Says YA, but reads older. Hope it turns NA, 😉

Cons:
- The narrative can sometimes be confusing with details, you have to rush to catch up.
- Character choices.... sigh. Not a con, just want to smack the chuck out of them.

Not bad.

While I did enjoy this book it seemed to take a while for the men to make connections which I found frustrating. They are on the way to meet the potion master and of course they’ve split the group in half, I am never happen when groups split up. But eventually they make it but of course the potions master is....dead. So they commandeer her home for their plans. Most of the time they do a lot of mundane tasks, while looking for the spring. A spring they never let Shade look for but naturally probably could only be found by her. I will say so far I have predicted each event that happened with Shade. What that light was in book 1, what she might be, what was important. I made all the connections.

We also get to meet some of the other groups and naturally these groups, triunes, are female. And naturally they are after her men. Shade gets jelly, and has to put them in their place. Which is interesting. One person I can’t stand though is Jada. I think she’s shady af. I don’t trust her and I really disliked how Pax and the others said nothing about her behavior. They let her get away with it.

I like that we get some more insight toward the end about Logan, though I didn’t really need...ALL that detail.

I really hope book 4 is on the way soon I’m dying for it already.

So, I finished reading this book the day I got my hands on it. It has definitely got all the elements I favour in the RH genre and I would certainly recommend it for those who enjoy a good romance x4.
What I really liked about this book (and this series in general):

The male characters are not interchangeable. In a lot of RH, the male leads are basically just cardboard cutouts, that are simply there so the female character gets to be like; oh look how many men are dying to be with me!! In this series, and this book especially, with the change in perspective to Roarke's pov, I get a feel for what makes these characters people. We also get a feel for why these guys like the MC and it's genuinely rather sweet and not forceful. Also, they had actual lives before our female MC entered the scene! Do you know how rare that is?! There are entirely too many near immortal beings with zero emotional and/or physical(though this is rare) relationships before MC. Totally unrealistic even in the paradigms of most magical worlds.

The MC is not a total idiot. Sure, she's ignorant but that's part and parcel of being thrust into a whole new world. She makes good observations without it being totally sudden and out of character. She's also mostly reasonable instead of being completely and irrationally hell bent on proving that she's 'strong'.

I really love the interactions between Shade and the guys. Since it's a slow burn, there's really time for the relationship to develop and you can see the change in their interactions from book 1 to book 3. Sure, there are some fated love undercurrents but it's still not insta love and frankly, it makes the whole four guys, one girl thing into a more stable dynamic.

The world building in this book series isn't bad but I've seen similar things before. It's not completely lazy fan service and it makes sense so far, which is what I'm mostly concerned with. It is consistent, which is several grades above most other RH books. Also, tbh, character and relationship development are much more important to me in this particular genre. Many unanswered questions about the nature of the world (which I love!) but I'm sure we'll learn more as Shade learns more about this world too. Plot is set up to get potentially more interesting. Also, looking forward to more backstory reveal about our MCs. There isn't a lot of attention given to secondary characters but you have 5 MCs so I guess it's okay. If I had to choose between romance and secondary character development, I'd choose romance. In defence of this book though, many secondary characters have been introduced and it remains to be seen what the author does with them.

All in all, this is a fantastic read for when you want to forget the world and feel all warm inside. No triggers and genuine
and justifiable affection between characters. Also, decent world building! What's not to love?

In all the RH I've read, this is one of the best.

100% obsessed

Book 3:

Cashure does it again! This series keeps getting better and better. A lengthy addition to the Shadows and Shade universe.

This book picks up where book 2 ends, mostly told from the perspective of Shade/Kitten and Rourke. We've got the Elorsin's heading in different directions, with some going to then coming back from the prison and others are riding to the potion master's domain. There was a lot of information we discovered in book 2 that directly influences the decisions being made by the group in book 3. A new finding by Rourke and Shade significantly raises the urgency level for their need to solve the bubble issue .

This story stays in one location, the potion master's domain. The loyal Saber Elites are coming to meet with Pax and the Elorsins. This meeting is being set up by Jada, who we met at the end of book 1. With the new challenge the Elorsins are facing, it is super important for them to maintain solid relationships with their allies while also keeping anything involving Shade secret. It's a lot and one character really grates on your nerves, just a heads up.

This book is wrapping up a lot of the storyline from books 1-3 and setting up the next part of Shade and the Elorsin's adventure. The end of the book had my heart racing and I had to reread parts because I was rushing to find out what happened. While we the audience know parts of the story that the characters don't, I think reading the characters journey to discovery is engaging and well written.

The third installment of this amazing series is finally here, and the intensity doesn't disappoint. The hunt is on to save...so many things. Shade from her bubble. The realm from the evil king and his son. The mortal realm from the fall out of everything else. Alpha, Chaos, Darkness, and Allure have their hands full. We see the dynamic between Shade and her men shift and their bonds strengthen and grow deeper. They discover things about Shade they hadn't expected, and it's totally a game changer. The heat gets turned up a bit in this book and I'm sure I'm not the only one ready for Shade to make her next move. Because, let's face it, the Elorsin's don't stand a chance against their prank-loving mortal. Eagerly awaiting Book 4!

Amazing!

This series is getting better and better! I adore Shade and her Elite Sabers. They are angsty and high-handed as hell, but they adore her and I love that so hard.

Shade and her guys spend a lot of time trying to dismantle her bubble and get around Logan's potion in this book. The way it worked out happened in a way I sort of expected and the result was what I was hoping for, so I'm glad about how that played out. I'm not glad at the second epilogue, but at the same time, I'm not surprised by it. I never liked her.

There is a lot of passion between Shade and all of her guys. She gets injured a lot, too. Still, Shade has some badass moments, too. I'm really loving all of the revelations. I can't wait to read more.

This series has quickly become one of my very most favorites! Amanda Cashure does slow burn so well! The story line and character evolutions are on pint and there is just enough of everything to leave you completely satisfied yet thirsty for more. Book 3 was much longer than the first 2 and I loved every word. We really get to see Allure in a new way and further our love for all of the guys in the harem. We are also introduced to some new characters some I loved and others I loved to hate. Amanda Cashure said it best when she warned me of the book hangover to come. Friends let me tell you it is real and worth it!! I cannot get enough.

Put me out of my misery!

Fiiiiiiinalllly. This book was both awesome and torturous. I am so very glad there was movement in the mystery because I was going to hate on all the guys (except Sethy of course). The way they were treating her was so irritating and the fact that she just let it slide pissed me off too - I mean, come on girl, grow some chuckin bralls! Can’t wait for Chaos’ story!!

Thus far, this series has been an absolute JOY to read (and also be a part of as an Alpha reader), but even as just a reader it Is BEYOND necessary to read. Darkness doesn’t fall out of the range of omfg amazing! If you haven’t started this series, you’re completely short changing yourself!! Get on THIS BANDWAGON and read this WHOLE SERIES, you’ll love darkness, but I think Shade is my favorite character by far.

The 3rd book in this series seemed longer to me but it's definitely hitting its stride now and quickening its pace too. Making it a easily read through quickly because it drags you in. Full of action, laughs and wit it's hard not to like this series. The main characters Shade, Roarke, Pax, Seth and Killian have a great rapport and the banter makes it a great read. The cliffhanger ending was knockout too. Just loved it

I'm addicted to this series!

Even though it's on KU, this is an instant buy series for me. Fans of Rise of the Iliri will devour this book. It's pretty slow burn, but man the chemistry is intense. The world is incredibly in-depth and I love all the main characters! They're crazy... in the best way possible. 😉

Boring, repetitive, and unnecessary.

This is one of the slowest slow burns I have ever read and still been itching to get my hands on the next book. Amanda Cashure has a way of building her world and characters and their relationships so that I care and am invested enough to stick around through thick and thin, not that there's very much thin even in a 650-page book. I was honestly afraid of getting bored halfway through because that's happened to me so often lately, but it didn't happen and I couldn't wait to keep reading, so kudos to the author!

A very quick summary for myself so I don't have to re-read when the final book comes out! spoilers ahead!

Loved it, devoured it, need I say more? Completely in love with this series. Can't wait to see where it goes from here!

I occasionally got confused because a lot happens in this book and sometimes it was difficult to understand some of the interactions between the guys+shade and the new characters introduced in this book, and there's a lot of history and riddles, but I know it'll all be revealed as the series goes on. It was again interesting to see things from Allure's POV but again it was almost repetitive at times and he spent SO MUCH time just going over the same things that I sometimes wanted to skip over the scenes, but it was fine. I also enjoyed the ending epilogue scenes!

Not sure how I feel about the spin-off series mentioned at the end of the book, I kind of HATE cross-overs with a deep-seated passion. So I doubt I'll read the second series, at least until more books are released, but I do love this author's writing so I'm going to be optimistic and might give it a try.

So insanely, tediously, boringly verbose that, when my eyes watered as I skimmed the infinite nonsense, I reached up to wipe them, sure my fingers would come away with blood.

To be fair, having so many words amounting to so little happening is quite an accomplishment. Nothing of note even occurs until 85!!!% in. Eighty five!! 8-5.

I guess the domestic scenes are supposed to be cute, but I’ve never been so bored in my life. How there are also so many interactions with so little character development, I’ll never understand.

Especially when the solution to the problem that has them holed up the whole time is so obvious that the 19 year old girl is the one who finally mentions it, not the centurion immortals that have apparently spent none of their many years acquiring common sense.

How are we meant to care about their baking skills and rising tempers in the meantime when it only leads to the fmc repeatedly injecting herself between two magical men that could smite her with a sneeze like “Stawp! You’re better than this!”

They’re really not. The only positive attribute they have is that they’re refraining from rutting her like animals because she would die. How sweet.

I got to the point where I was hoping they’d just go for it anyway and put us all out of our misery.

3⭐️0.5🌶️

This book was filler up to the 70% mark.

I would have rated this lower but the last chapters really saved the book.

Shade finally shed her mortal skin so Im really hoping in the next book she becomes at least a capable fighter and proficient with her seed.

Although this book was definitely filler there was more character and relationship development.

My opinion of the MMC’s is the same, Pax is a controlling asshole, Killian lacks communication skills, Roarke is afraid of himself and Seth’s personality is based on him being a chaosseed.

It really is starting to get on my nerves the way they treat Shade, yes she is a weak mortal and not that smart but don’t kick a dog when it already down, they at least could include her in conversation and inform her of the actual situation and maybe treat her with the supposed love there is between them.

The plot slows down, and this was definitely dragged on but Im already hooked so…

I still don’t know how to rate this book.
Pros: Shade
Cons: I sometimes really dislike the way the guys treat Shade.
There’s also their whole plan. You would expect someone trying to usurp the monarch to be capable of at least a little multitasking and have loads and loads of backup plans. This group though, has a numerical checklist of things to be done to get the throne.
First do this, then do this, nono can’t think about that right now, after I deal with this hey that’s not important right now, stop thinking about that.
Honestly doesn’t feel like a group of rebels or whatever they are called. More like kids going on a treasure hunt. Just, a little more bloody and a lot more at stake.

Yes, Yes, Yes...Now We’re Talking!!!

Ok, so there were still moments where I wanted to strangle certain men (*ahem* looking at you Killian and Rourke), but everything is oh so perfect in my (well, Shade’s) world now for me. While I am anxious to read the rest of the story, I am glad that this is where I am stopped waiting because I am on that perfect edge of hope and anticipation!

Amazing writing, world building, and character development. Slow burn that is worth every bump, bandage, and blister. I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see what this author does with Shade and company next!

Holy moley what a fucking rollercoaster, that ending was nerv wrecking. I just didn´t want the book to end, i have just started to appreciate the slow burn romance and just enjoying the ride. I love the world building Cashure has written and the plot and just everything. I feel like the last part of the book has to be my fave part, i feel like finally they can be together atleast. Even tho in some parts of the book i felt like it was so slow and i just felt that i wanted to jump to another book but i kept thru and made it to the end.
