Chinmayananda Saraswati, also known as Swami Chinmayananda and born Balakrishnan Menon, was an Indian spiritual leader and teacher who inspired the formation of Chinmaya Mission in 1953 to spread the message of Vedanta. The organization, which was founded by his disciples and led by him, has over 300 centres in India and internationally. He was a disciple of Sivananda Saraswati at Rishikesh, who founded the Divine Life Society. He was later advised by Sivananda to study under Tapovan Maharaj in Uttarkashi in the Himalayas.
Delving deep into what makes each one of us the same, Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda does an amazing job of taking abstract concepts and making them easier to understand. Gurudev makes this knowledge practical for and applicable to the lives of normal human beings like us. Each of the 114 chapters is short and sweet, providing thoughts to contemplate upon individually so that we may evolve for the better, no matter what stage of life we are in. This is a fantastic read and one chapter a day will take us a long way :)
When I first laid my hand on this book, I considered it as another commentary on the Gita. I didn’t know anything about Swami Chinmayananda either. I started reading the book slowly, on and off. But as I approached the chapter where the idea of a Man of Perfection is introduced, I was stunned. As I marched on, the portrait of the Man of Perfection gradually came to fruition. I hadn’t read any commentary on the Gita more accessible than this. Swamiji has ‘vividified’ the Gita. Besides the stupendous content and sublimating logic, the poetic rendition of the prose is truly mesmerising. To say it a life changing book is not enough. It is life transforming. I shall keep returning to it time and again.
The book gives you the essence of the Gita in very clear, simple and yet an intense form. The book is divided into small chapters which should be read steadily with reflection upon each of them. This book should not be read in one go but in a span of at least a month.
Wonderful reading it . Its gentle Introduction to BhagvadGita, its more modern , contemporary, scientific bent and motivational book. Must read for everyone ..
