The third and final volume of writer Brandon Jerwa's powerful run on Highlander is collected here! In the wake of the shocking events and the ultimate fate of Connor MacLeod revealed in Highlander: Endgame, "Armageddon" follows Duncan MacLeod -- gone but certainly not forgotten -- as he undertakes a deadly mission that involves a doomsday cult and the Watcher's!
It walks like HIGHLANDER, it talks like HIGHLANDER...but it's definitely not HIGHLANDER. Not the HIGHLANDER you know and love, at any rate. With this volume, we're back in G.I. JOE territory once again, as Duncan Macleod engages himself on a mission that would feel more appropriate for Snake Eyes. Since when does Joe Dawson send Duncan on undercover missions anyway? What happened to that whole "watch but don't interfere" thing? And Joe Dawson isn't the only one acting out of character. For some reason, Amanda, Duncan's weepy and melodramatic girlfriend from the TV series, is portrayed here as a badass who mows people down with a sword and even punches an old woman (albeit an evil one) in the face. Connor shows up as kind of a STAR WARS force ghost to joke around with Duncan and give him pep talks. There are also a couple of new characters, one of whom looks so much like Duncan that it's very difficult to tell the two of them apart. When it comes to HIGHLANDER, I'm usually pretty easy to please. Heck, I even think HIGHLANDER: THE SOURCE is a great movie. But not only does this comic book series get so much wrong, it's just plain boring! Dynamite! comics keeps acquiring so may great properties and then doing so little with them. My frustration with that company continues to mount.
The third and final part of the comic book series brings us back to the immortals trying to stop something big and bad from happening. This time it is a sort of a death cult. Not a good fit with the Highlander universe.
