Jenny is a single mother. She has raised her children as best she could while carrying a secret that grew harder to tell with each day that passed. Enough of those days passed where it became impossible, and then unnecessary, to reveal what had been thrust upon her all those years ago: she had almost forgotten herself. As adults, Jenny’s children are polar opposites; one craves success, the other lives from one day to the next. As a family, they will be confronted with truths that will weaken and then galvanise. Tragedy strikes, but the suffering is endured, and bonds will be forged that will heal what were their weakest moments.
Author, E. J. Williams writes fictional stories about family; exploring the individual, while portraying the functional and dysfunctional within normal, everyday settings. "Weakest Moments" and,"The Old Book", are two contemporary novels that are both moving and confronting, depicting the many faces of the modern family.
Weakest Moments begins with intrigue and the story continued to keep me turning the pages with some unexpected twist and turns. I really connected with the characters, especially Jim. The story of a family facing its past was well crafted and very emotional at times, I felt like I was walking in their shoes, hence the five stars.
A good read and the characters were engaging enough. Lots of places from where I grew up in Sydney which creates a certain familiarity. The story lines were mostly believable and there were many commonalities throughout the book with people I know or have known. I don't know about the ending - I think I wanted something different, especially for Jim.
Weakest Moments has pulled on my heartstrings more than any other novel I've read this year. Not only are the characters relatable, but they also have the incredible ability to provoke pure emotions of anger, surprise and sadness. I believe that everyone will be able to find a little piece of either themselves or someone close to them in the pages of this book and that is why I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging, powerful story of human experiences.
I found Weakest Moments very enjoyable. Sad and then cranky, at one character in particular, but with plenty of smiles. Each character is different but linked and the title is woven into the story well. Looking forward to Williams next book.
I really enjoyed "Weakest Moments" and read it in one sitting. I was drawn into the characters lives, and laughed and cried with the ups and downs that they were faced with.
