Creatures of evil roam the shadows - the Drakhyn. They may look like humans, but their taloned hands and razor-sharp teeth serve one purpose only; killing.

A Sentinel's purpose is to patrol and protect. They are highly trained soldiers with superior skills and abilities. Whether they be Vampyres, Lycan, Castors or gifted Akrhyn, their purpose is the same; hunt the Drakhyn and rid the world of their evil presence.

Into Darkness is a fascinating and addictive urban fantasy book by Eve L. Mitchell. The author has created a world filled with magic and intrigue. Along with relatable, enjoyable and uniquely identifiable characters to read. There were elements of humour, which I found myself smirking at more than once.

And let’s not forgot Tegan - she’s one badass female lead with an underlying innocence, but a strength that’s unmatched. She’s an absolute amazing character to read.

The twists and turns throughout the story are unexpected and perfect. Every aspect of this story drew me in and I was captivated from the beginning right till the end. What an ending!!! I was shocked at every line I read and screaming internally. Anything I previously thought was shattered. This story absolutely blew my mind and I couldn’t have predicted what was coming.

I very rarely am so greedy that I “need” the next book, but in the case I NEED the next book!! I really can’t wait to read what adventures are in store for these characters, and see what Eve L. Mitchell has up her sleeve. I’m sure that anything I think is coming in the story, will again be thrown right out the window.

Eve L Mitchell is a genius! This book is amazing and I can’t wait till the next one. She built such an amazing magical world unlike anything I have read before. Tegan is an amazing strong female character that has this innocence about her that you can’t help but love. The story is well written and all of the other characters are just as amazing. You will definitely not be disappointed in this book!

I’ll be honest, I went into this books a skeptic. But like 99% of the other reviews i am DYING for more. I love the plot, and the depth of the characters. Although, the best part about this book is that I didn’t see the twist coming; and I have theories- but it isn’t apparent. I love that it kept me on the edge of my seat with trying to see what happens next! Please, please, PLEASE gimme more!!!

This book left me completely destroyed and needing so much more. As soon as I finished it I looked at my husband in shock that it was over. I am immediately demanding for the sequel as we speak but in all seriousness this is such a great book by Eve L. Mitchell and I am so proud of her for writing it.

Tegan was a special favorite character of mine. I love how ignorant she is of certain things and how it makes her awkward and endearing all at once without ever taking from her bravery or badassness.

Sloane was another instant favorite. I love how hyperactive his personality is and how he is almost the complete opposite of Cord, his brother. I also love how he continues to try stealing food from Teagan despite knowing how she feels about it.

Which brings us to Cord. My gosh, he is so intensely complicated. I wasn't sure I liked him at first and somehow ended up fully committed to him in the end. He is a complete ass and does some shady at times things but gods I love him. I gotta admit it.

As for the plot itselt, I found it well paced and that it had a well formed world that was easy to picture without being at all infodumpy. The progression of the story was not only believable but told in a way that made you not want to stop. And that twist at the end? Bahhh Eve I need more, now please.

But seriously, I adored this book.

This book was unique, fascinating and interesting. I was in complete admiration of this fully created world. Tegan is really one in a kind with wonderful character and impossibly large variation of skills. She is badass yet innocent. Other characters was very well defined as well. It was fun watching theirs interactions and creation of relationships. I smiled and smirked very often reading dialogues. Plot is great, all the twists and turns made me forget what time of night it was, I kept reading. Everything was perfect. It’s fantastic book which captivated me from the very first words. Great jump into fantasy type of stories for this author, I really need next installment soon if not I might come out of my skin due to the unexpected ending. Honestly Eve L Mitchell just excel in everything she writes. I would give it more than 5 stars if only it would be possible.

DISCLAIMER: I did get this book from the author. This is an honest review and my opinion only. I hope the prospective reader will read this review fully before making any prejudgments on the book. I will give the book my thoughts, good and bad. Also, this review contains opinions that are my own and not the author’s. My thoughts will be different from your thoughts and just know that before reading the book. Lower in the review, I will talk about disclaimers in the book as well that you should read before opening the book.

Our story begins with a sense of evil lying in the shadows. It is just waiting for a chance to come out and get you. When a person comes face to face with the Drakhyn. A normal person wouldn’t stand a chance. That is where the Sentinel comes in. They are our protectors and they patrol to stop the Drakhyn before they hurt the innocent. The Sentinel can be many different groups. Their main goal is to protect us all. Tegan is our protagonist. She has trained her whole life in seclusion for her chance to become one of the elites. She is ready to find her family. Did I mention that they don’t even know she exists? She is excited and ready to go, but soon learns that this is the least of her worries. Now, she is thrown into a world of complete chaos. Growing up secluded from the world, she is new to the dangers around her. Although, she is going to find out what it means to leave her comfortable and safe world. It is time to begin a journey of her own.

The summary of this book does give you a good insight into what you will be reading. Although, it is a new world full of different creatures. I feel like some you have never heard of before. I usually will talk about the setting and how the author does in describing the world in their head, but I feel like this book is a lot to cover. I want to specifically point out the very beginning. Here is where you get a glossary. This has been the most helpful tool in reading this story. I would have enjoyed it without it, but the addition of such an important factor made each character and place much easier to understand. I felt I wouldn’t be immersed in the book the same way. Also, I did, at first, think that it is possible that having to read the glossary would spoil or take away the charm of the book. I was completely wrong. Although I did not have to go back to the glossary throughout the book, I feel that if you needed to then you absolutely could and you can jump right back to the place you left off with a whole new understanding of the story.

Character development can either be your best friend or worst enemy. Have you ever read a story and you found yourself so disappointed in the characters? Were you taken away from the wonderful moments of the book because you were stuck on the characters in the story? I am happy to say that this is not one of those books. Every single character is dynamic, powerful, and witty to a point that you can just enjoy the ride. Each reader can find a character that they love, relate to, and love to hate. I have to say that I am the type of reader who tends to find a connection with other characters and not just the protagonist. That will take me out of the story sometimes because I am so focused on what the other person is doing or thinking at that same moment. I did not have that feeling with this book. I love Tegan. She is the epitome of strength and passion. She shows you just how powerful she is. I feel like she even lets you into her life as you were meeting her. I loved that not every single thing was known before she was ready to share it. I got the chance to follow her through this journey and that is an amazing experience in itself.

What is this book like? It is a passionate journey of finding yourself. Also, you follow Tegan in finding out that her final trial was not the end, but just the beginning. You enter a whole new set of trials where failure can mean death. I feel like this is on the edge of your seat type read. She is someone who fights, and you have to fight to be in the elite guard. You see her change and grow through her own ups and downs. She is not going to let some arrogant castor get in her way. This book takes you on a wild ride. Get ready and buckle up because readers, you’re in for the time of your life.

I always like to add a disclaimer to the prospective reader. I have to say, I didn’t find anything in this book that I would find concerning in the matter of intimate scenes or language. I do want to mention that this is my opinion. Others may find different things uncomfortable and something they do not want to read. Any scenes that can be violent, such as battles, could definitely be passed. At the end of the scene, you can keep reading and feel like you have not missed an important part of the story.

My rating: This was an easy rating. 5 out of 5 stars. It excelled all of my expectations. I don’t usually climb towards reading an urban fantasy. I tend to feel confused or lost, but this book was so much better than I could have imagined. The characters, events, and storyline throw you into a wonderous new reality that you can’t always separate yourself from. I encourage readers to open this book, read the glossary, and hold on. You are about to be taken on a ride of your life. Here you go!

I hope this review helps you in making your next book choice. Happy reading!

Wow! Eve has definately rocked this introduction into the paranormal world!!
Teagon has lived a shelered life, one tucked away. But this dosnt mean shes a meek little kitten, she is definately a tiger, ready to pounce at any moment. Although lacking in social cues, she makes up for it with her innocent words and cute face!
This world is amazing and i could not predict what was going to happen next. I have so many questions, i cannot wait for the next book so i get some answers and some more Cord

So good. Amazing

First, Mitchell needs to dunno contemporary romance and just stick to fantasy. I'm not saying hey contemporary romance is bad, it's excellent. Her fantasy is just that good.

Into Darkness is gripping. The story pulls you in and doesn't let go. Between the complex story and the amazing point of view writing, you will find your still head over heels for this novel.

Loved it! Read it all in one go and was so pleasantly surprised at how good this book is. Compelling storyline, good characters and you immediately get swept up into the book’s universe and magic. The only bad thing about it is that I have to wait for the next one to be released which I hope will be very soon!

This was a great first book in this new series and by the time I got to the end I was chomping at the bit to get the next one. You get a bit of a slow burn between Cord and Tegan (and good luck not just loving Tegan to bits!), a wonderful world of magical fantasy world with great characters who have great depth and intrigue you and a story that draws you in. I can not wait for the next one!!!!

Just wow. One of the worst/best cliffhangers ive yet to encounter but amazing plot. A ghost from the past leads to a new family but lacks basic cues in life. Fmc works like a machine and is a total badass.

I loved this book and once I started it I found it hard to stop reading.

Into Darkness is the first book in the Akrhyn series. We are introduced to Tegan who has been trained since birth to become an Elite Sentinel, a core group of the best warriors. After passing her final trial, Tegan is assigned to the Canadian Headquarters where she meets her family, who were unaware of her existence until now. The Drakhyn. The sworn enemy of the Akrhyn, are rising and it is up to Tegan and the other Sentinels to protect and defend the other Akrhyn from the Drakhyn and to figure out what the Drakhyn are planning.

I felt the character of Tegan was really well written and she was a well rounded character. The almost single-minded focus on her training, and her isolated upbringing has made Tegan into a fearsome warrior but she lacks a lot of knowledge when it comes to interpersonal relationships. When it comes to fighting and strategy Tegan is confident and self-assured but she is clearly out of her depth in social situations and doesn’t understand a lot of slang terms or pick up on social cues and I think that she will grow a lot in this area throughout the series. I also think that this is part of what attracts Cord to her.

Cord is sexy, enigmatic, mysterious and a bit of a dick to everyone around him. He knows how good he is and he doesn’t try to hide it. Despite this you can’t help but like him. I like the fact that he accepts Tegan as she is, despite her lack of social graces and understanding. I also think that he finds her honesty to be refreshing. Some things come out in the book that make you question who Cord really is and what his motivations are and I’m hoping that some of these things will be explored in the next book because I need answers.

This was such an engaging, well written book and I cannot wait until the next book comes out to find out what happens next.

Wow! 4.0/4.5 🌟 Fantastic urban fantasy read. This story hooked me from the beginning. I don't often read third person POV, but the writing style was very fluid.

Tegan is very strong and skilled, having trained to be an Elite Guard and Sentinel since she was a child. But she was raised sheltered, with a single focus on training, so she's naive to many social norms and cues. I enjoyed seeing her moments of compassion and warming to other characters while at the same time being fierce and fearless.

I love love love the attraction and pull between Tegan and Cord! I felt sad at first when they were fighting so hard against their bond, but thankfully that angst build wasn't dragged to extremes and I was put out of my misery (I hope, it ends on a cliffhanger). Looking forward to the next book!

The first chapter was very slow and a bit weird, especially the very beginning, but after that, wow! The world and versions of creatures that the author has created are thoroughly intriguing. Being told in the omniscient third person was a little disconcerting for me personally, (I really prefer first person) but the plot was so interesting and flowed so well that I easily got used to it. Tegan is a delightful mix of overacheiving, experienced badass and naive, innocent girl all in one. She's the predator and prey all at once which makes for a fascinating character. And with a slew of strong, individual side characters, this made for some captivating reading. Ending with a hold-your-breath cliffhanger, I can't wait to find out what's going to happen next!

This was written in a fascinating way. The author shifts the POV and narration continuously and not just by chapter. Sometimes it is several on a page. It took a bit of getting used to but once you get in the swing of it you can enjoy the story. It’s a slow build suspense with an underlying slow burn romance and it works well. Left off on a cliffhanger that has you looking forward to book 2. I’m holding out hope for Cord!!!

Holy Akrhyn!!

I deliberately left reading this series until I knew the final book was due to be released even though I've had the first two for months. I read the blurb and I just knew I would be hooked and very impatient for the final book and I was so right!!! This is just outstanding its intense mysterious innocent but with evil lurking ready to pounce....simply brilliant and wow Teagan is kick ass....so glad I have the next book to get going with because I just couldn't put this down but its going to kill me waiting for the third one even though its not long LOL
