Set hundreds of years before the fall of Crotana, Dungeon Dive follows the adventures of a young Aveyad. Join him and his fellow champion, Talia, as they battle their God's foes and embark upon a dungeon crawl... a task they may not be equal to yet.
Tales of the Gods' Game is a loose collection of stories that follows the journey of various players on Myelad. Dungeon Dive is the first volume, with many more still to come.
This is a separate and distinct works from the main series, the Gods' Game. It is not necessary to have read that series first, nor does this book contain any spoilers of the main story.
This book has everything that I love to read. It is a fantasy litrpg with all the wonderful spell discription, and leveling system and quests. It has a great story that develops the characters with a lot of action and trials.
In addition to that it doesn't have any profanity that I can remember and no sex and nudity.
The only thing I have to complain about is that post battle update boxes didn't have the amount of experience that they had received. That is a minor thing compare to how much fun the book was to read.
I got an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for a review.
Rating: 3.5 stars rounded up
It was a fun first volume to a prequel of the main story. While not necessary to understand the main story itself, it was nice to get a bit more background for some of the characters. The insights into how dungeons function in this world was also interesting. I actually got myself feeling sorry for the demon having to face the MC, even though I did root for the MC themselves.
An entertaining and relaxing read overall. I'm looking forward to reading more about Aveyad and co.
Two under developed champions are set upon a troubling task. Together, not only do they learn more about the world they live in and each other, but also what it truly means to be a champion.
A wonderfully written journey and while the Main Characters aren't overpowered, we as adventurers should never underestimate luck, wits and faith !
I sat on the edge of my seat as the battles played out. Very enjoyable story.
There is some good potential but some of the characters don't act like they should. The author writes from their perspective and hints at things or they do things a certain way, but then later they act completely differently for no explained reason.
If you're a fan of the LitRPG genre, then you definitely don't want to miss this one, especially if you've read other books in the God's Game series. This doesn't contribute anything to the storyline as we've already seen it, but it does fill in some of the back story, and those kinds of books can become quite important in the overall view of things when all is said and done. I appreciate the author's note at the end of the book, stating the book is self-published, and errors may still be present. I was going to comment on the possible need for another proofreading session, but since the author is aware of such, I suppose there's not much point. With that said though, I do have to say, even without that last round of proofreading, there are remarkably few errors in this book especially when compared with other books of its kind. So, if you're looking for an action packed LitRPG book, with only limited stat tables, (I personally love the stats, but I know some don't care for them), then you want to add this one to your to read shelf. Even if you've not read LitRPG books before, but want to know what the fuss is about, this may be a decent introduction for those fantasy fans who are sitting on the fence.
I'm giving these three stars because even though it seems to be a good story so far I just can't get past the presentation. I'm seeing system messages from the game but I can't figure out who's supposed to be seeing them as far as I can tell I, the reader, am the only one seeing these system messages. It doesn't seem to be a mechanic to move the story for the MC. The MC doesn't interact with any of this extraneous information being given to me.
