This is definitely not a stand-alone novel. You really need to read the first 2 books in the series to understand this one. And to make it worse, this story ends in a cliffhanger, making it necessary to continue the series to learn what happens to these characters. The story is becoming more contrived and less realistic as it continues.
Miles Meili delivers a consistent, competent performance, but incomplete stories frustrate and annoy me. See my review of the final book in the series for my rating and review.
NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is a series detailing the aftermath of an EMP that knocks out the power and disables engines and machines. I liked the contrast of the main characters - a rural survivalist-raised young woman, her dog, and a crashed male pilot. The series is a fairly "nice" view of a post-apocalyptic dystopia, with genuine friendship, character progression, mostly well-thought out details. There are a few glaring errors that threw me out of the story a little, and the dialogue is sometimes stilted or artificial. Overall, if you are a fan of PA, you'll enjoy the series. It's not one of the greats but it is enjoyable.
All That Escapes is definitely my favorite out of this series. I love Beth's character and the addition of the Appalachian trail into the story. I like Landon's character too as it adds some reality to the situation. If you like post apocalyptic books then this is a great series and Jack Hunt is your author.
Nicely thought out plots and characters. Makes you prey we never really have to go through one of theses situations because human beings are more like animals than we really want to admit. That said it also shows that googeneness does exhits and we are frail but resilient
I liked this book of the series, the best. As with the previous books, it is filled with action and mystery. Never was it boring. I guess that's why I like Jack Hunt. I will not give away what happens in the story, but if you have read the first 2 books of the series, you will like this one too.
This series is one big adventure after another. Fast paced but great character development. Highly recommend to all who like these apocalyptic novels. A little profanity but not to much. Not for teens, at least I wouldn’t want young teens to read.
This series was a light and entertaining story. Some characters I liked and some I didn’t care about at all right from the beginning like Sara for instances. The end was rushed and not really satisfying. The why and how the EMP happened, no one knows and the author doesn’t care.
Excellent writing skills and characterization development was realistic and fine tuned. Each book in this series flows seamlessly and this really enhances the story. On to book 4!!
The AT and it’s adjoining towns are riddled with danger. Who can they trust, who will betray that trust. Yet still they soldier on. Meanwhile at the hometown in Maine more trouble brews. The author carries is through many adventures.
This book had me holding my breath, reading well into the night and not wanting it to end. A real page turner! I can't wait to start book 4. I will get a good night's rest first! Thanks Jack, for a great adventure and wild ride!
“All That Escapes” ... this book is a brilliant follow up/continuance and again captured my attention totally all the way through .... looking forward to reading the next in this series. Strongly recommend.
Oh my! What an adventure. Hiking from North Carolina to Maine after an EMP blast takes out all electronics. There is fighting, danger, and a few goid people. They get to Maine at the end of this volume, but the story isn't over yet.
The long distance hike continues for our two friends accompanied by the strange Billy; their meeting has long term consequences for all! Love the story!!
Have really enjoyed the 1rst 3 books in this series, just starting the 4th. So glad I decided to take a chance and read Jack Hunt’s work. Action packed and so enjoyable.
I was thoroughly immersed and engaged following the harrowing story. Tremendously enlightening with regard to people’s survival. Great character development. It was a very good read.
Held my attention throughout. The characters were believable. Some of the situations were a little bit different, but it is a novel, and the author can take 0ne wherever he wants to.
This series was captivating and easy to get lost in. The author did a wonderful job of making a survival story that wasn’t cheesy but kept interest the whole time.
Got better. Stronger more mature character development. Glimmers of hope. Good action. Cliffhanger at the end....Lots of little twists and turns. Well done.
Who can you trust on the Appalachian Trail during a months long black out? Great light read with the added bonus of post apocalyptic survival skills. Enjoy
