Empowered: The Business Owner's Guide to Leadership & Success is a non-fiction, self-help book for people who are starting their empire in business and leadership. In today’s world, it is tough to be your own boss, and this book will help readers seek advice on how carrying your own business and taking your people will work hand in hand.

This book is specifically designed to busy people who want immediate answers to their needs, for this is just a short and concise read. It is like getting what you want in a 1- hour read. I must say that it is a brilliant and comprehensive guide to business success. With all the promises about self- motivation and being a great leader, then I believe that this book is a gem, especially that people nowadays are into the self-actualization of having the business of their own.

The book inspires its readers to venture to their own passion and desire if, on the one hand, they are not happy with their job. Dominica Lumazar also shared her authentic experiences as she struggled her way to success. She is a classic example of hope that the future is not determined by one’s current status. I like how her experiences could inspire as well as other people to finally start a business.

The book is universal. Though the title itself speaks for leadership or business, the book has so many takeaways that whether a person is a boss or just an ordinary employee. The latter could see how his boss works, what kind he is, and how to deal with him. Nevertheless, it teaches readers how to deal with people they are with every day.

The book contains strategies and insightful principles of dealing with problems related to business and people. And since Miss Lumazar is an experienced business leader herself, she gave a variety of solutions to any issues that a business leader encounters. Lastly, I would like to include some empowering advice she pointed out: inspire, communicate, provide, lead by example, and encourage. Personally, I love how these five leadership roles since I believe these what lack most of our leaders at present.

I am giving this book a 4 out 4 stars for this book can have a clear and direct communication; thus, Miss Lumazar herself said that to communicate effectively is a real art. And I highlighted, "In today’s economy, we now understand that being kind and communicative will empower our team to work hard and feel valued".

This book is excellent! It’s a super fast read—but that doesn’t diminish its content in any way. It is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to start a business or who already runs one. It’s also filled with excellent marketing information that anyone who works in the field—as well as anyone trying to grow a business—will appreciate and find value in. I particularly liked the branding section and found it to have a lot of valuable takeaways. From colors and logos to learning and delivering what your customer wants, there are excellent strategies and roadmaps in this book.
The author’s stories made me want to listen more to what employees want as well. I particularly liked the case study about how a businessman bought a well-established auto detail company and had a meeting to ask the staff what they wanted. When he learned pizza once a month and doughnuts every Sunday were of value to them, he delivered and as a result, the staff was more productive.
I loved hearing how the author got started and how her experiences played out and what she learned from them. It was great to learn that she trained herself and became such a success. I found it to be more than just a book about business; it’s a guide to achieving success in general. a refresher on running a business and managing people.

This book is geared towards entrepreneurs, I think. Even so, there is much good information that can be gleaned from it. Broken down into 3 parts, covering, leadership, business value and business clarity, we are given a lot of information, I would suggest using your highlighter function and bookmark function throughout, I know I did. Much of the information here wasn’t just repackaged, the author has been through it all, even built her own (and more) companies and so we can take her advice knowing that it has been proven to succeed and the stuff that doesn’t work is left out.
I don’t run a business anymore, but I am seriously thinking of maybe restarting it. With the advice given in this book, I have already been able to think back and realize just where I went astray and how I ultimately failed in my endeavor. I have the blueprint for success right here.

The ultimate leadership guide

This is a comprehensive look at the leadership role and the qualities that will help you to best succeed in that role. Dominica Lumazar uses her own experience in the business world as a guide to creating this book and sharing in the success she has gained. This book is packed with valuable insight and information on leadership and how to reach a successful level and be an inspiration to your team and clients. Dominica discusses many topics from advertising to how to brand the company. This is a very well written book that will be a benefit to anyone who is in a leadership role or looking to move into a leadership role and want to know the best formula for success. This is a good one for all future leaders.

I read this as part of my brief fling with onlinebookclub. It was one of the better books I read for them, and even though I'm not a business owner, I appreciated the common sense points she makes. Lumazar writes engagingly and very positively, which I liked. Reading it felt like she was cheering me (a potential business owner) on, and I loved that she takes the time to critique old-fashioned 'masculine' models of leadership, compared to the more collaborative, empathetic one she advocates. Lumazar also includes lists of resources that I'm sure will be useful to lots of people, and takes the time to explain things like social media in a non-condescending way.

I was disappointed that she didn't tackle more issues specific to women in business, especially as the title sets up that expectation. Instead, most of her advice is very generic, which isn't bad, per se, but feels like a wasted opportunity. I would like to know how she, specifically, as a successful businesswoman, navigated challenges women face in professional contexts. She also doesn't acknowledge the privilege and connections that helped her build her career and maintain her lifestyle as a working mother. Her "you can do it if you work hard enough" may be galling to people who, say, can't afford childcare or domestic help, or who don't have family to help them get their start in business.

It's *really* all in the book's title.

By that starting sentence I mean that you get *exactly* what is stated; lessons on how to lead and achieve success. This book was written by a woman who has lived through the experience of creating a business (several in fact) and she's helping others with theirs. As such she has first hand experience with the topics that are to be covered. The book clearly explains such basics as what a leader is, the types of leaders, leadership styles and as promised it also delves into it what the author believes are the bases that any business owner needs to achieve success.
And that's the thing to keep in mind, this is a book that is written from a single person's experience and it's written through their lens. Will that mean something could be missing? It's inevitable, as no two lives are the same. But in my opinion she's well equipped to claim she can talk about it because she's not only built success for herself but her “formula” has been proved to work with others (right there in the book she shares some stories of how she's helped others improve), which is amazing but most commendable of all, is that to me it all sounds as genuinely well-intended.
Yes, she's selling it, but to me it felt like someone wanting to help her fellow earth dwellers and that's not only because she says so herself (though she put it much better): “I wish someone would have taught me at least half the things I had to learn the hard way...I'm here to share my experiences with you so you can hopefully avoid making the same mistakes....By reading Empowered you will be equipped with the tools to develop personal leadership strategies that will take your business to the next level.”

And that quote leads to my very next point. This is a book written with the intention of sharing the author's hard-learned lessons for the benefit of us readers; it's NOT a live consultation on your business plan. And I have to emphasize that because I can already hear people groaning about how it doesn't talk about how to create a business. And to those people I would first kindly ask them to reread the title of the book, and then I would have to tell them that I agree. I also disagree.
This book talks about how to *run* a business, specifically one you start yourself. I'll agree that it doesn't go step by step on how to start any one type of business (like it doesn't tell you to stock up on glycerin if you want to sell soaps for example) but it *does* touch on some key aspects that are the foundations for a business (like how to treat customers and knowing who your target audience is). I'd say, that if you take all the principles of this book and apply them to your chosen field; you'd be looking at some solid foundations.

So. Will you need to research your particular field? Of course. But leadership, and success are universal and in this book I especially like how some of the advice is also universal. Because since when does believing in yourself or working for your dreams only apply to business? Or as the preface itself puts it: “...my best advice is to simply start. Take action, and don't wait for all the stars to align. Be open to not knowing how something works. Vulnerability and willingness to learn will only make you stronger and better at what you want to accomplish in this life.”

To me this book just has some very good sounding advice for someone who is looking to or already has their own business but its advice is just generally good *for life*.

I just overall really liked this guide. And another little thing, it tickled me how the title (the 'empowered' to be exact) just didn't make sense to me for “a business book”, but by the end of it I was like 'Oh! That's so cute.' This book is just motivational, has sound words of wisdom and it even goes so far as admitting that *it doesn't* have all the answers, so it provides a list of additional resources.

I think the author herself sums it up best: “I've built my business single-handedly with my own bruised brain and the tenacity to just keep going, keep learning, keep challenging myself and continue to strive to better my craft. Every single time I failed, I continued to learn and grow, and in turn, I took those failures and turned them into lessons. I've shared them with my clients to help them save time and money by avoiding similar mistakes.”

This to me was a great read. It's motivational, inspirational and gives life lessons. I'm not a business owner but I do sell a few crafts here and there and what I read just made sense to me, so I'd definitely recommend it to anybody who has a business and has doubts as to how to make it better.

Empowered: The Business Owner's Guide to Leadership & Success, by Sweet D Marketing founder Dominica Lumazar, is a worthwhile and engaging read for new and aspiring entrepreneurs. Ms. Lumazar’s intends to inspire and educate those who may doubt themselves as entrepreneurs, struggle with business fundamentals, or face leadership challenges.

She mostly succeeds, though a few ill-sequenced sections and editing errors jar the reader out of what is otherwise a thoroughly immersive read. For example, multiple sections on employee relations would have best been consolidated into a single chapter, rather than scattered throughout multiple chapters in the book. Sequencing chapters on leadership together would have strengthened the work as well. Despite these flaws, Empowered remains a strong addition to any entrepreneur’s personal library.

Ms. Lumazar’s personal anecdotes enliven what might otherwise be a volume of aphorisms into thoroughly appealing work that the reader will likely turn to after completion for reference and/or renewed inspiration. Her candor is a strength: she shares both successes and failures as well as the insights learned from each with unadorned language that makes the book accessible to all audiences. Moreover, she is relatable: the book begins with a recounting of childhood insecurities fueled by adults who did not believe in her. Unfortunately, childhood dreams are all too often assailed by “practical” and negative adults; starting the book from this common experience evokes immediate empathy in the reader.

Empowered is not merely a personal brand-burnishing exercise on Ms. Lumazar’s part. Indeed, the authenticity of Ms. Lumazar’s writing undercuts any skepticism about Empowered the reader may feel given the glut of business advice books on the market. The book is a refreshingly earnest and rewarding attempt to empower her readers, one that is well worth checking out.

A brilliant and comprehensive guide to business success.

Partly an account of her own experiences, and partly insights from other successful business partners, the author has compiled a detailed and comprehensive guide to achieving business success and excellence. There are also a list of references and links to consult for a variety of problems or situations. This is an ideal book for a small business owner, and also contains principles and strategies that will prove invaluable in a big corporate situation as well.

As a small business owner, it is always challenging experiencing the rollercoaster ride of wins and losses in today’s economy. Social media and other forms of entertainment would lead an owner to believe that everyone is raking in the profits. Dominica Lumazar sets all that aside in “Empowered…” as she deals with topics ranging from the mental health aspect of entrepreneurship to the tangibles such as financial statements and liability insurance.

First, this is not your everyday self-help, motivational book. The author does not seek to motivate you by bragging on how much money that she has earned. Nor does she simply tell you to “go out and get it”. Instead, Lumazar provides us with the struggles she has encountered while encouraging the reader to learn from her and others by applying similar principles to your business.

According to Freshbooks, there are an estimated 27 million Americans leaving their traditional workplaces in exchange for self-employment. Therefore, we can expect that competition will continue to increase. Lumazar does an awesome job of providing us with an inside look on what it takes to expand your competitive advantage to, not only stay afloat, but thrive as well.

Overall, the book is jam packed with personal insights, suggest, and theories that would be beneficial for the side hustle as well to Fortune 500 companies. Therefore, I would recommend others to purchase this if they have ever considered entrepreneurship in order to avoid the mistakes and mishaps that come along with being self-employed. I will be giving this five stars for the research involved in presenting valuable information in a digestible format that even the most casual of readers would understand and retain.

I was hugely impressed by this book. I've read hundreds of business and marketing books over the years, including many of the major titles on these subjects, and I'll confidently say that this one ranks among the best ever written.

The author has run companies herself. She's also worked for a bad company that taught her valuable lessons. She's thoroughly trained herself to know what she's talking about when it comes to running a business and gearing it for success, and her knowledge shines through on every page.

Everyone can learn something from this book and the author's experiences, whether they're a business owner or an employee. Plus, unlike many other related books, you could actually use this book as a playbook to start a business. More importantly, it could help you run (or revamp) a business, and do so intelligently and effectively.

If you're interested in starting and running a business, you really do owe it to yourself to buy and study this book. I'm a veteran reader, student, and analyst of such books, and this is one of very few I would actually "recommend to myself" if I could. And yes, I'd recommend it to anyone I cared about who was interested in starting and running a business (online, brick-and-mortar, or both). If I really cared about them and their success, I'd buy them a copy.

In fact, while I bought and am reviewing the Kindle version, I'm going to buy a physical copy of this book so I can have one on my bookshelf. This one really is a keeper.

I bought--and read--this book earlier today. It's a quick read, with lots of great information and advice for business owners and bosses of all kinds. From learning to unplug from technology for your own sanity and to spend time with friends and family, to promoting ways for employees to feel appreciated and valued in their jobs. Not only does Lumazar share her own experiences in her businesses, but also shares the experiences of her business clients, and does so in ways that are entertaining and informative. She outlines very specific ways to make employees feel invested in their company; for example, one client of hers asked his employees outright what would make their jobs more enjoyable (and was surprised at their answers). They asked for--and received--pizza on Saturdays and doughnuts on Sundays as a reward for a productive work week. The end result is that they became more productive because they were willing to work for the reward, and the reward itself provided them time to socialize with one another, producing a more cohesive work team. There were several chapters in the book that were like "ah-ha" moments. The first was simply stated like this: "The truth is you can't pay people to care." This was an experience learned by the author after hiring a social media "expert" that wasn't as great as he appeared to be on paper. Her honesty in dealing with her client even meant she retained that client because they appreciated her candor. This book is a great read for people who need a refresher on running a business and managing people.

Dominica Lumazar wrote this book for entrepreneurs who are just getting started, those who need a guide on how to expand their business and everyone else who is interested in the business world. Her writing style is simple with a few technical terms. The best thing about this book was how the author delivered her message and lessons. She used practical examples and real life scenarios to expound on the topics she discussed. Following the text in the book was both easy and interesting.
One notable line from the book is ‘start with where you are with what you have’. That single line is motivating enough for anyone who plans on starting a small business. Reading about the author’s early struggles was encouraging. From her story, I learned that there is nothing wrong with being different from your peers. Her story when she became an entrepreneur is inspiring. Things may not have been easy at some point but with her parents around, Dominica got enough drive to push on.
From this book, you’ll learn how to be a leader, how to stay focused on your business, how to grow your business, dealing with and retaining your clients, and marketing. The author also had a handful of notes on making and saving money, tips on how to advertise and many other strategies you need to apply in your entrepreneurship journey. Reading this book is like taking a mini crash-course in entrepreneurship. Everything the author wrote is valuable. ‘Empowered: The Business Owner's Guide to Leadership & Success’ is also a light read, making it easy to carry around.

This book contains helpful information not only for new and established business owners but for all levels of management as well. The author outlines all aspects of how to start a business or keep a business successful without going so heavily into detail that it’s difficult to follow. The best advice she has it’s simply to start, to take action!
The first half of the book goes pretty heavily into leadership. She teaches about empowerment, inspiring workers, communication, leadership style, and more. The second half of the book deals with more of the minutiae of the business. Branding, marketing, target audience, customer retention, and even steps for course correction when the business is not meeting your goals are all covered more in depth in the second half of the book. A business owner or manager can always make a business better if they keep learning and are willing to take a chance by making a necessary change. In the author’s own words:
“Your job now is to turn what you’ve learned into action! Make those healthy choices, keep clear boundaries, fail over and over again but get back up. Say thank you to every door that slams in your face, and surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are going to support you and lift you up along the way. Pay close attention to your leadership intuition and listen to it. Even if a decision is challenging, you will always know what’s best for your business. Stay humble and keep evolving.“
Definitely worth the time to read this one if you feel there are areas your business could improve.

Well I've read a numberof books on how to achieve this and that in my time, but I must admit this author stuck to her guns with her humble beginnings, the only difference with this author is not only did she stick to it , the book resonated with it to the end. It's not often that a person who's achieved success will still incorporate ideas, thoughts, and experiences from a time when she was starting out like the rest of us. It makes me feel like shes never forgotten about us struggling or just starting. This authors complete support and recognition of the everyday employee won me over. At the same time she also explains the boundaries that upper management and employees must adhere to and respect in order to achieve optimal efficieny. This author does not lose you in her jargon , and the tools she advises are the common everyday tools that we all have access to. This book wasnt just meant for CEOS, you can say this book was also meant for employees who want to do better in their own job and have a better understanding of how stressful managing or running a company can be. The better understanding between employees and their bosses the better a company will run. So its good read , with practical steps anyone can follow and achieve results.

I don't read very many self-help esque books, but this book intrigued me as I am becoming more and more interested in women who become leaders in business, particularly those who own their own businesses. The book starts out very typically and what I have found to be true of a lot of small business owners--she had a chronic injury and had to move back home and essentially start her own (helping her sister and eventually taking over) business, to find a job that she could do while she recovered. That business eventually grew and as her marketing skills grew alongside it, she found that she had to choose between what skills she wanted to capitalize on. Hence this book.

This story is very inspiring because it really shows how a "regular" person can start their own business--and become successful at it. It is somewhat common sense--but on the other hand, that is what works and some people don't want to use common sense--or they just don't know what they want. This book helps lay out the qualities of leadership that one is expected to use if they want to have a successful business. Period.

First off I want to say I am not a business owner but I did go to school for business and plan to run my business one day. With that being said, I found this book very insightful and engaging to read. The way Dominica outlines and breaks down every chapter is great. I do think she added some information in chapters that I do not think really belonged in the chapter but nevertheless I felt like this book can applied to not only entrepreneurs but people who are in leadership roles in a company .

I love how she mentions that anyone who eats at a restaurant should work in a food service at some point in their lives. As a former server I feel like this is soooo important. You definitely have more empathy for servers when you go out to dinner. I also love how she hit upon mental health in your business. "YOU ARE NOT YOUR BUSINESS. YOUR BUSINESS DOES NOT RUN YOU." This quote is sooo important in all aspects of your life. It reminded me that I am not my job and I have an identity outside my job so I shouldn't kill myself working.

Overall, the book is a quick read and I would definetly reccommend it!

This is the first book I have ever ready concerning Business & Finances and I quiet enjoyed it. The book wasn't long and winded, but got to the point fairly quickly. I am actually starting a Freelance Writing Business and this book provided great tips on how to manage to start your own business as well as balance a personal life.

One part I did like about the book from a personal standpoint was in Chapter 11: Course Correction, where she mentions dealing with one's fears when starting a business. That is the number one killer of dreams, because people are afraid of failure and afraid to make that dive into a world that they may not be all too familiar or comfortable with. This book isn't written from a high-powered entrepreneur, bragging about how the made this much money and how you can do it too if you follow only their steps. Dominica Lumazar spoke to readers like she was on their level and encouraging them along the way.

I would recommend this book for this just getting their toes in the water of starting their own business. It's an easy read and leaves you satisfied.

I'm interested in starting my own business, and reading this book is the perfect place to start. I liked that the author first wrote about her personal struggles and experiences. I think many readers will be able to relate or at least sympathize with her. She's like any other person, and yet, was successful in starting her own business which means that we can too. For those who want to be their own boss, we just have to take the appropriate steps. Reading this book is definitely one of them because it's inspiring and empowering. The author seems very motivated and ambitious, and reminds me of myself. This is what I mean when I say that some people will be able to relate to her in some aspects. When I want something done, I will do whatever it takes to get it done no matter what. I also appreciated that the author included the harsh reality and risks some people might face while doing business. I especially liked that she also included the different leadership styles so that the readers can figure out which one they are.

Dominica Lumazar opens her life up to reveal the priceless knowledge she gained about running her own business and the leadership techniques she has gained, some the hard way. Empowered: The Business Owner’s Guide to Leadership & Success is full of resources and experience that even veteran business owners can enjoy. Having a passion for her startup business allowed her to connect with people

What I loved about this book was the drive that Dominica Lumazar had from high school that took her on her road to success. The examples she had from her parents is amazing as they gave her a foundation and support to succeed. Not that it is a requirement to succeed, but motivates me to be that kind of parent for my children. Empowered is written like the author is sitting right there speaking to you. I really enjoyed the business she started, something that brings a smile on people’s faces. Excellent book with many helpful tools.

This book by Dominica Lumazar dives into the complicated world of owning a business and how you can work to help keep yours afloat and prosperous in a time when many businesses are failing. Lumazar will teach you how to look at the big picture of your business so you can find where you want it to go in the future. Empowered is an easy to read, conversational style book, rather than a textbook. Dominica Lumazar takes the reader into the world of owning a business. She makes it clear from the beginning that she never wanted to work for someone else. She shares her personal story, failures, tips, and lessons. The author clearly explains marketing and building your business by valuing relationships, using social media, and retaining customers, to name a few. I particularly thought the “Finding the Work-Life Balance” chapter was a great addition when discussing owning your own business, especially for women. If I had to critique anything, it would be to explain some of the marketing terms used in the beginning section. That’s only to help readers who are not as familiar with those terms. Empowered is a great reference tool for anyone who is considering owning a business, or for those who already do and need help maintaining it.

Dominica Lumazar provides a wealth of information for the entrepreneur and businessman or woman in her book: Empowered. And the information she presents, does just that! It empowers you to harness your talents, skills and abilities in order to lead and build your own company. Touching on ideas such as leadership style, branding & marketing, and mindset, this book gives a well-rounded look at several aspects of business and how to be successful. One of my favorite parts was the section on analytics. As a young entrepreneur myself, this is something I am really starting to dig into.

The overall tone of the book is light and conversational, just like you are having a chat with a business mentor. This makes the book a nice, smooth, easy read. Overall, I’m very happy to have this book in my collection. I’m sure I’ll read it many more times and use it as a reference in my own businesses.

The book is very inspiring to me. Being a woman, I was reading it more closely. Though the book is for everyone who wants to do business. The book is also very interesting. it doesn't make you feel 'read later' but keeps you engaged with personal life story alongside developing business skills in the reader. The book has much-needed knowledge about business and how can even an ordinary person in any situation can start a business and also be successful in it.

the book is worth the time to read as well as to write a review for others to be benefited out of it. I am writing this review for inspiring other readers to read the book, the writer wrote the book to inspire others to do the business and also be successful in it.

I recommend this book to the public for better success in their lives. one of the good self-help books.

I love how this book gave me insightful business perspective.

As an independent business owner I learned how to improve fundamentals - whereas prior, I had not identified my business priorities.

It's a short title, but really delves deep into what you can essentially tap into for motivation.

For example, my biggest problem in running a business was micromanagement.

After reviewing the solutions presented in Dominica Lumazar's title I gained clarity; so, for that alone I am appreciative.

Who would I recommend in the reading of Empowered? I'd suggest college youth, particularly undergrads to MBA level students.

The information is ideal for those on their journey in the scope of business. That's why I love it!

This is perhaps the premier guide for young and aspiring professionals like myself.

One thing I can say with honesty is that this book provides a beginning entrepreneur with some information and solid guidelines on how to get started and what to expect once you do. Before picking up this book, I often wondered how my bosses at work managed to get everything done and done so successfully in such a short period of time. This book explained what's really going on behind doors and how to keep things afloat even when things aren't necessarily going as predicted. Prepare for the worst, expect the best. Another thing to appreciate is that the author had her own set of struggles throughout the early stages that can really set an example for others who are in the same boat or are experiencing similar struggles.

This is a fantastic resource and I highly recommend anyone reading it who owns a business. It is a well organized and accessible read. This book has some wonderful insights not just on detailed professional matters of improving your business, but on how to be a more mindful, insightful human being. There is no single map or guideline to become a better leader, and the author highlights the need to look inward when running a business. She stresses how the internal emotional journey is as important as focusing on the overarching goals in your business. The author highlights the need for good professional boundaries, and for protecting family time and personal interests.
What I take away from this important book is invaluable on a professional and personal level.

Though it was a short read it went over all the important aspects of a business that are needed for it to run effectively. After the reading this book, I feel like I can run my business exactly how i want it ran with not real issues.
This is very resourceful for those looking to start a business and needs the extra motivation. There are good notes and she even put together a great resource page that you can use for reference. Over all this is a good book with a lot information that is useful for entrepreneurs of all ages.
