A mesmerising post-war thriller! Perfect for fans of Len Deighton, John Le Carre, Tom Clancy and Ian Fleming.
How do you confront your past if you can’t remember it?
Austria, 1947
Paul Leeburg has returned home from World War II with a troubled conscience and a burning hole in his memory.
Injured by shell-fire, he doesn’t remember his final moments in the fight.
But he does know innocent men were slaughtered at the villa where he was picked up.
Leeburg always hated war and the thought of killing sickened him. So could he really be responsible for these men’s deaths?
Leeburg cannot find peace until his questions have been answered. And the only way to find them out is to track down the man who turned from childhood friend to dangerous foe…
THE FALLEN EAGLES is a thought-provoking military thriller, following one man’s journey as he seeks to remember his last moments of the Second World War, while unaware of the espionage and political double-dealings circling around him.
Geoffrey Davison was born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne and lived all his life in the North East of England. He was first published at the age of 40 with ‘The Spy who swapped shoes,’ an espionage thriller set in the Cold War, and continued in this genre before moving to backgrounds including World War Two and the Foreign Legion. A prodigious traveller throughout Eastern and Western Europe and beyond Geoffrey was able to combine his love of travel with his passion for research and storytelling.
This was a good solid WWII story. After the end of the war, two Austrian soldiers who had served with the German Wehrmacht, are being investigated for possible war crimes.
One of the soldiers, Sergeant Paul Leeburg, returns home to his family's Gasthof in the Montafon valley. Wounded and suffering from a loss of memory, he fears he may have been responsible for the murder of innocent civilians in the Villa Lucciano in Italy. He cannot rest his conscience until he knows the truth. The only person who may give him answers is the second soldier being investigated, Major Erich Reitzer. They are boyhood friends and served together throughout the war.
Leesburg goes to extraordinary lengths to track down the missing Reitzer, dealing with unsavory black market characters and questionable family loyalties. He has to decide how far he will go to discover the truth.
