Snowdonia Wolves #1

Wolf at the Door

Rate this book
Lillian may have sworn off men, but Jake’s not just any man, he’s a wolf shifter – the Alpha of the Snowdonia Wolf Pack. When she gives the huge injured dog shelter from the storm, she has no idea about his true self, so he courts her the only way he can, via a psychic link into her dreams.

He vows to claim her as his Mate, and when Jake makes a vow, he keeps it, but it’s not that easy. Shifters don’t usually pair off with humans, especially not Pack Alphas. She’s a famous pop singer, while he prefers to stay in the shadows, and then there's the big reason: humans have no idea wolf shifters exist.

Can he shift Lillian’s world enough for her to fall in love with him?

Synopsis:

Pop star Lillian Hart is determined never to trust another man. She has no idea that the wolf at her door is anything other than a wounded dog, much less the Alpha of the Snowdonia Wolf pack. There’s something about the wild creature that pulls at her. Then a man with her wolf’s eyes starts to invade her dreams, and reality and fantasy merge in a way that has her hoping, against all odds, for dreams to come true.

Lillian may have sworn off men, but Jake’s not just any man, he’s a shifter, and he’s about to shift Lillian’s world to make room for him. He vows to claim her as his Mate, and when Jake makes a vow, he keeps it. But Lillian wants to take it slow and Jake is not about to waste any time.

In this battle of wills, both discover giving in and trusting their hearts can heal even the deepest of hurts.

My thoughts:
I read this book in one sitting, I could not put it down.
It is very well written and I like the writing style. This is a lovely TLC read sure to get you into a good mood.
Lillian Hart is a cute lovable character she is suspicious about men and is coming out of a bad break up. Who has not been there, huh.
She is a super star and used to men being all over her, so getting her to notice you is not an easy thing.
Then Jake shows up in here dreams and OMG is it steaming hot. But to go from there and to trusting him IRL is a hole other ball game. Jake is a wolf shifter, and this sexy blue eyed man is a man with a mission.

The world building was slow but steady. The characters really came to life on papers and the lovemaking. Did I say it was hot? It was steaming hot. Jake is the hotness himself, the epitome of sexy really. Can I have one please?
Over all I really liked this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I would really love to know more about the shifter would in this series, so I really get to know the “mystical” shifter secrets.
I give this book 4,5-5 stars.

Well, Sofia Grey has, this time, given us a fantasy/ real world story of shape shifters interacting with humans.
I was so pleased to see the characters had "real" and original names, not the same as in every other book we read (to the point you sometimes wonder which Raphael, or whoever people are referring to).
Great to have a Jake and a Lillian.
Jake( yummy shifter) knew from the moment he saw Ella that she was his mate, its a built in sense. Ella, however is not as convinced about "love at first sight", and with having just finished a really bad relationship, stepping straight into another one, is not on the cards for her.
Jake tells her he is a shifter, and she accepts that, but is not so happy about finding out he has marked her as his mate. Jake doesn't give up and allows Ella a bit of time to accustom, to the idea.
Of course, our characters get their must have HEA,and the reader has book two to look forward to. Its going to be interesting to see what comes next in the Snowdonia Wolves series. I'm personally hoping the equally yummy Sasha gets his HEA !

Thank you so much Sofia for sending me an ARC.

VERY GOOD: The characteristics of a 4 star book include: a great story; I loved the characters; and there was an interesting plot and unique story elements; there may have been a few odd things kept the story from being amazing. I would read it again and I would recommend it to a friend.

My Thoughts:
Although this was a novella, Wolf at the Door was a robust romantic tale that read like a full length novel. Both the story concept and characters had endearing qualities that made for a very enjoyable read. I always love a good shifter tale if it is well written and this story was written well. Although the reader only gleans a bit about the background and pack hierarchy of the Snowdonia wolves, Wolf at the Door was very immersive because of multidimensional characters. Jake and Lillian were expressive and sweet with a full range of emotions.

I look forward to reading more in the series and will love to see Sasha get his mate comeuppance. LOL

A lovely, softer take on the growly shifter romance. I liked the issues of both main characters and their inescapable--fated?--attraction, but would like to read more of the world-building.

Luckily, there are more books coming in the series! :)

When I was first asked to read and review this book, I was game because it was a paranormal. Then I saw the cover, realized it would be a wolf book and I got super excited. I love paranormal/shifter wolves and romance. :)

It was later in the evening when I decided to start it to see how far I could get. Well by 1 a.m., I could barely keep my eyes open but was so torn because I seriously could not put this book down.

Congrats to you Sofia Grey, for writing a fantastic shifter story !!!!!

I love love loved it :) At 87 pages, it was the perfect length for me to read at one time but then at the same time it just wasn't long enough either because I didn't want the story to end.

I have to say I fell in love with Wolfie before the end of Chapter 1 :) His protectiveness was immediate for who he recognized to be his Mate and was impressed that he had respect enough to give her a little time to get used to him before he scared the crap out of her. And how cool to have the ability to invade someone's dreams? That was a trait I hadn't read in any books before so I really enjoyed that. I won't give you any more details though so you can experience it for yourself.

This is an erotic novella and the electricity between Wolfie/Jake and Lillian was instantaneous, powerful and simply hot !! I whole-heartedly believe there is such a thing as love at first sight, even though Lillian definitely fights it. She was a scarred popstar running away from a bad relationship to hide in the Snowdonia Mountains at Lupus Cottage to heal. With the simple gesture of taking in and caring for an animal she thought she'd hit with her car, she started a chain reaction that would end up having a profound healing effect on both of their lives.

I want to read this again....and again.....and can you please, pretty please... hurry with A Handful of Wolf (Snowdonia Wolves #2) :)

Absolutely, without a doubt 5 stars !!! Kudos Ms. Grey !!!

*This book was given to the reviewer by the author in a R2R through the group PNR NaUBA. This book was provided in exchange for an honest review.*

This is my first time reading a Sofia Grey book and her first book in the Snowdonia Wolves series. I sincerely hope she will ask me to review every single one of them cause I certainly want to keep reading about these shifters. This book was a solid 4.5 star read for me. You know how much I liked it when I say I will buy these books if I have to! (cheap and poor) lol

As you may have noticed I "love" shifters of all kinds and I certainly found Jakey to be the epitome of what every girl wants her Alpha - whatever animal she desires - to be. He was sweet and playful both in and out of the bedroom. He was strong enough to allow Lillian to care for his wounds as a "dog" and to rein in his predatory instincts to claim her as his Mate.

Jake has the ability to enter other's dreams and he does with Lillian to learn more about her. He also wants her to know him as a man; the man who wants her to be his Mate. Through these wonderful, sweet and erotic (did I mention HOT AS HELL) dreams these two connect in a way that Lillian has never experienced before and of course, this scares her.

Lillian has spent her life on the move, hiding herself from the world as the glamarous pop/rock star Ella Hart and has only ever been hurt by the people she las let in and trusted. She truly does not understand Jake and his large family and the bonds, both human and wolf, that they share.

This book takes us on Lillian's journey as she learns to let someone, even a "wolfie", into her life and her heart. The twists and turns along the path she takes have us laughing and swearing, Jake groaning and pacing and everyone holding their breath to see if and where we stop running.

I enjoyed reading about Jake and Lillian and meeting other members of his family and the Snowdonia Wolves - especially Sasha! One thing about a series is you know when one family/pack member tortures the hero in their book they will get it back tenfold in their own. Look out Sasha Sofia is gonna get you good! Please. And his heroine could be Heather :-)

(★★★½)... Sweet & sexy PNR with LOL moments
From the moment Jake had shifted to human form, a very delectable shape indeed, she knew her life would never be the same. She felt connected to this man in a way she’d never known before. Every instinct urged her to take a chance. Every ounce of common sense told her to run.

THE SHORT: Well-written, sweet & sexy PNR with LOL moments. Recommended for PNR/shifter fans looking for a quick & easy read with some smokin’ (vanilla) sex and guaranteed HEA.

THE LONG: Having read Sofia Grey’s first book, the short and sweet Come to Me, I was excited to have the chance to read a slightly longer book by her.

At novella length, WOLF AT THE DOOR is a compact story about fated mates from two very different worlds. I personally would’ve liked a bit more world-building. Nonetheless, Sofia Grey’s precise writing creates a story with more than the usual depth for its length and her use of certain techniques enables the story to cover a lot more ground. Both MCs are highly likeable and I liked the mutual respect shown as they tried to find a workable compromise.

I particularly liked that while WOLF AT THE DOOR uses the fated mates trope (so there is instant lust), the romantic connection seems to develop more naturally, aided by Jake’s ability to enter Lillian’s dreams. In addition, there isn’t an easy and immediate resolution to the various “hurdles”; instead, the passage of time is cleverly used to establish the basis for a believable HEA.

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am definitely a fan of Ms. Grey's work. This was a TLC shifter story that was well written, as always, with strong characterization and a realistic storyline.

I liked our hero, Jake (love the name too!). He was strong but very willing to be the supportive mate that his woman needed. Our pop star heroine, Lillian (aka Ella), was a brave woman although slightly crazy to not realize that the very large wolf-like "dog" was a wolf. I liked how Jake's loyalty was to his woman first and the need to strike back at enemies was muted compared to her needs.

I'd like to learn more about the world, and the Pack, since a lot of the development in this novella was focused on Lillian. I'm always fascinated by the shifter societies.

Overall, a nice, sweet novella with a great deal of potential for the world. Looking forward to more.

After reading (& Finishing) Wolf at the Door (it was a quick read...+- 2 hours), I find myself in two minds about the book. The book started off promising, it held that promise for quite a while... however, at about 60%... it become rushed and disjointed.

I was excited to begin reading this. I've had it in my line-up for some time now and the urge for a little paranormal hit and that's how I found myself reading Wolf at the Door by Sofia Grey a little earlier than I would have if I'd followed my current to-be-read order.

First off I was surprised at the speed the reading percentages jumped on my kindle. I realized very quickly that it's shorter than a normal book, but not quite as short at a novella. But I wouldn't classify it a full novel... if that makes sense.

When I noticed the time it took to reach 50% - that's when I started worrying. You see, right from the start... it was really enjoyable. I loved the approach. I really started falling in love with the characters. I was happy with where it was leading and at that point this book (although written in 3rd person) was leading up to becoming a full 5 star read for me.

But alas, then something strange happened and all of a sudden I felt as if I was trying to keep up with the book. It went from a full on detailed tale to a 'snippet' version. As if there was so much to tell, but it was all done in little bits - jumping around a little to quickly. This is where Wolf at the Door dropped for me. I didn't like that. I really didn't like it. Let me put it to you in a clear manner. For example... Day one to day two - spanned over the first 55% (or so) of the book. Then suddenly day 3 to the end, was written over the remaining 45%. Now I know it's not unusual, many authors jump time to move the story along... but within that 45%... it was something like 6 weeks (or maybe a month)... all crammed into those short pages. And that's not all. Those short, snippets were essentially the crux of the story. This was basically where the high point in the book occurred. So if you understand what I mean, then you will understand why I struggled to go from chilled pace... written in a descriptive and enjoyable manner to suddenly being forced to follow the development of the plot while it's done in a very short, very brief and not a very descriptive manner.

Then, to make matters worse, the end approaches and then it's just done. Finished. The End. When I reached 96% I thought this must be a part one of at the very least two books (and yes, it's a series) but I don't actually know it there's a follow that will be revolving around Lillian and Jake. I really don't know. And that's a problem for me because to me this book is so far from finish and it's not because I really want more... it's more as if I feel cheated out of the full reading experience. Something was missing and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that that 'something' was the whole second part of the book. In fact what was missing, was half of the story. I never got to enjoy it... had a taste in the beginning... but never got to experience the end fully.

Now it must be said, that even written in (not my personal fav) 3rd person POV, I really did enjoy the writing. It didn't feel as airy to me as it usually feels when reading 3rd person. I felt way more involved and much more connected to the characters and the story and that's a huge feat. So that's a thumbs up from me, because it's something I struggle with and in this case, I found it extremely enjoyable.

Like I've mentioned I was having a wonderful time reading the first half. I loved the just of the story, adored where I imagined it was leading to and really it was as close to a perfect erotic paranormal romance as you can get - Well... the first half was.

So honestly, I don't know if there just wasn't more to tell except the ending... or if there was a time-crunch or what... but whatever the reason, this book was not finished off properly at all. And that's very sad. It's essentially a great book (in the making that is).

Here's what happens. And seriously it's not something unique, nothing spectacular as far as plots go, but it was highly enjoyable and that's the bottom line.

So Lillian, a famous pop singer & who's escaping her hectic life for a while, heads off to a deserted area in the mountains. On her way there she finds a wounded dog (or at least she thinks it's a dog) on the road. When she get's out, he's gone and she can't find him. So she continues on her way and eventually reaches her destination - a secluded cottage in the middle of nowhere.

A few minutes later - the 'dog' arrives at her doorstep. She takes him in, treat's his wounds and that's how it all begins.

I don't want to give to much of the beginning away since as you already know, I felt that most of the story was during this time so I wouldn't want to spoil it much.

The bottom line is that it turns out, it's not a dog but of course a wolf... and she's his mate.

Now Jake is the Alpha Wolf of his pack and he's been searching for his mate for some time. He didn't know when he arrives at the house in wolf form that he would find Lillian and that she would be his mate, but the moment he lays eyes on her... it's official and he just knows it to be the case.

Of course like most tales of where wolf, or in this case, Shifter and human relationship, there's the little problem of the human adjusting to the news of being the mate to a wolf and since it's a norm, it happens in this book.

Jake stared at the vision before him, unable to stop his mouth from dropping open and his tongue lolling out.

Her.

She was almost certainly naked beneath a white robe, with a flash of cleavage, and a long, slender leg in view. He dragged his eyes higher. Graceful neck, determined chin, and an almost perfectly shaped oval face with cheekbones he could cut himself on. Damp curls stuck to her forehead above intelligent green-brown eyes, and he was struck by the contrast of her translucent skin against the riotous mass of flame-red hair.

Oh God. Her perfume. Amber resin with a hint of mountain heather after the rain. He inhaled deeply, intoxicated. He’d obviously passed out from the pain or was hallucinating due to hypothermia.

The vision spoke. “Oh … you poor thing.” Even her voice was perfect. Husky and deep with a hint of a lilting Irish accent.

The words rippled across his skin, making him want to howl with the sheer pleasure of it. She crouched—giving him another flash of her breasts—and held out her hand. Remembering his manners, he nuzzled at her fingers and risked a quick lick. The taste made his head spin and his blood heat. How could this be? She was his Mate?

Anyhoo... so that's my opinion. In the one hand I had a good time reading it and in the other... I had a few issues with how it all came together. But overall I'm happy. And if the second book were to be a continuation on Lillian and Jakes story, then absolutely... I'll be reading it.

Just know that the fireworks take place early and then it's really just a slight let down from there on out - but it's fun, a quick read and a very sexy read.

Oh my goodness. I love shifter books as much as the next person, but I have never been so glad to be finished with a book before in my life. The heroine is the one that ruined the whole thing for me. She was incredibly stupid. So dumb, in fact, that I was hoping the alpha wolf would wise up and move on regardless of the fact that she is his mate.

First off, Lillian—the dumb heroine—is driving in a snowstorm and she sees something in the middle of the road and instead of doing the smart thing and driving slow in the first place, she hits the brakes and closes her eyes waiting for impact. Are you kidding me? I think that would be the LAST thing you do. Anywho…she gets out and stumbles around sees blood then gets back in her car and drives to a secluded cabin for her holiday getaway. *rolls eyes*

Lillian is a pop star and is trying to find a quiet place to lick her wounds. She is caught up in a messy scandal in which she was dating a popular movie star who turned out to be married. I get that she wants to hide out until the attention dies down but when the movie star guy shows up at her cabin, she lets him in and believes the B.S he throws down about wanting her and lets him kiss her. This is happening all while the hero—stuck in wolf form to heal from a hunter’s trap—was taken in by the dumb woman.

There were a bunch of other things happening and some more dumb moments from Lillian but that’s really all I could remember. The stupidity of the heroine overshadowed every aspect of the story, which is too bad because I have enjoyed several books from the author. This, however, was a complete miss for me. I really wanted to like it but the heroine tanked it for me. But it will in no way deter me from reading future books from the author.

This was a really fun read. It was simple and to the point, and I like that this is a series, although you only get a glimpse of the other characters.

Usually in paranormal romance series, the main couple instantly fall in love and start living together. But this is different. They actually take some time to get to know each other through their dreams and in real life.

I recommend this if you're looking for a quick simple read.

I so enjoyed this book! I thought the characters were well rounded, dialogue was natural and the emotional connection between the Lillian and Jake was believable, despite this being a novella. I often don't find novellas as satisfying because I don't connect to the characters, but that wasn't the case with Wolf at the Door. I hope there are more Snowdonia Wolves coming!

A sexy shapeshifter that made me root for him from the very beginning, a strong heroine who finds herself in an unusual situation, to say the very least. Two opposites who are destined to be together. Five stars and one that I would DEFINTELY read again. A paranormal romance that had me addicted from the very first page.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 *
Hotness Rating: 4 out of 5 <3

I have a weakness for wolf shifters. I really do. Just the way they prowl and are possessive and loyal and just so incredibly hot, my mouth waters all the time. What's not to love? This tasty little number had me going in all the right ways.

First off, Lillian was a good heroine. I felt she was a little quick in accepting Jake and his wolf nature, but in all honesty, that didn't bother me a whole lot. I was more wondering why she allowed her scumbag ex to come back in and nearly swoon her all over again. In my opinion, once a guy proves to be a scumbag, there are no second chances. Show up on my doorstep, you get a door in your face. Just saying. But thankfully she gets her wits about her fairly quickly, and is instead swept away by one hot wolf shifter. She was a very easy going character, sometimes too easy going. She had mere moments where she was cautious about something, then a few minutes later--hey, let's throw caution to the wind! Whoo hoo! It was a little confusing. I wish she stood out more than that, but really that's all I got from her.

Jake, on the other hand, was pure man candy. I really love how wolf shifters are so loyal and passionate once they find their mate. Jake was no different. He starts off being Lillian's 'pet dog', and soon realizes he needs to come clean to be with her. As he seduces her in her dreams, he protects her as a 'dog.' When he's forced to reveal himself to her, crap in her life has hit the fan. He was determined and unfaltering in his mission to make her his. He had no delusions. She was his, and he wanted her. He wooed her in every way he knew how, even when she was resistant--he continued to seduce her in dreams. He was patient, but he was also scared. That is what really had me feeling for him--that sense of helplessness. But he was persistant, and in the end it paid off.

Parts of this book seemed to happen a bit too fast for me. It just would have flowed better had certain areas been fleshed out a little bit more. But overall, this was a good book and a hot little number to feed my animal side. Yum.

Lillian is a pop star hiding from the paparazzi because of a bad breakup with her more famous actor boyfriend. She’s heading to a remote cabin in the snowy mountainous region of Wales and almost hits a wolf. Though she missed him, she finds blood on the road but can’t find the injured wolf. She continues to the cabin and later finds the poor wolf at her door. She lets him in, bandages the wound, and calls him Wolfie.
Jake is the alpha of his pack. Injured in an old hunter’s snare, he goes to the cabin for help since he can’t make it back to the pack. He instantly knows Lillian is his mate from first sniff and is determined to seduce her in her dreams. Probably about half the book is in dream sequences.
I couldn’t connect with the H/h. Lillian acted too flighty and had an affair with Kurt, a married man, but at least she believed he and his wife were separated and in the middle of a divorce. Kurt did a lot of awful things to Lillian and never got his comeuppance in the end. Jake took a long time to tell Lillian the truth, and when he finally did, she accepted the fact that werewolves are real pretty easily.
Other than a few typos, the story is well-written. The author flip-flopped between the H/h’s POVs way too often (multiple times, back and forth, per chapter) but at least the shifts and scene breaks were properly labeled. I liked the plot and the universe the author created, but I really wish I could’ve understood Lillian and Jake better.

An icy road, a wounded wolf, and a haunting lover she only meets in her dreams all weave together to thaw Lillian’s frozen heart. Sofia Grey knits an exciting, spicy tale of love and passion in Book 1 of the Snowdonia Wolves.

Love can heal all wounds…

Jake is the Alpha of his pack and is determined to not commit to just any woman, only his Mate. He is out hunting for her when he is injured. Lillian plays a persona in her every day life, but wants a real love life without lies and secrets. She was just hammered by the press for her most recent love affair and only wants to relax away from the press. A wonderful shifter story and I am excited to read the other Snowdonia Wolves books.

Chapters are a bit short. The story keeps moving. Not really a relaxing read since there's not much downtime with the characters, though in this type of book, who would want there to be? Can't wait to read more!

I loved this. A wounded shifter wolf finds shelter with a woman who is running from the mess of a love life she has left behind and she turns out to be his mate...the one and only destined to be his. What I loved so much about this was the authors way of writing the story to explain some of the things I find silly and ridiculous in many shifter stories...like the love at first sight thing and being able to make a switch-a-roo in the female's life on a dime...most of us would ruminate on the choices presented to us and maybe not be so willing to give up our life. But Ms. Grey was able to sew into this story a very realistic response to finding out you met a guy two days ago who is willing to commit to you for ever......I loved how unique and quirky the characters were and all around enjoyed reading this. Can't wait to read book 2.

Wolf at the Door, the first novel in the Snowdonia Wolves series, is a good start to a paranormal romance by Sofia Grey. It is the first book that I have read about shifters. I love that Jake starts off as a wounded animal and becomes so much more in Lillian's life.

Having given up on love and trying to put her life back in order after discovering that her boyfriend was married, Lillian finds an injured dog at her door. What she's really taking in is, Jake, the Alpha wolf of the Snowdonia pack. But unable to reveal himself he presents his world through her dreams.

It was an innovative way to move into her world and works to shape an everlasting bond of trust and love between the two main characters. Their sexual chemistry is dynamic, but when he marks her as his mate without her consent things take a turn. Her fear of getting hurt makes her reject Jake. But their bond is unbreakable and in the end she can't live without him.

Received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.

Overall, it was a great read. Wasn’t sure what I would be expecting at first, a wolf? A man? A werewolf? In the end received the shifter that is Jake, and I am not disappointed. Can’t wait to read the other books in the series.

Wolf at the Door is the first book in the Snowdownia wolves series by Sofia Grey. This was a really good read. I loved the characters and the story that went with them. I do wish something more would have happened to the bad guy in the book. Lord knows he deserved more than he got, but the story was great no matter what and I will defiantly be reading more in this series. This was my first book where one of the main characters was famous in our modern day world and I loved how she brought that world into the supernatural world. I do hope we get more into the world of the wolves in the next book. I just don’t feel like they finished Jakes story. But again, great read, great story 4 stars!

It was better than what I have expected. It was easy to read and didn't give off that all-steamy vibe. Everything felt natural—or at least as natural as it is given Jake's nature. Only thing that felt off was how it was a bit rush near the end part but overall it was good. I actually love that she didn't jumped on the bandwagon when he told her the truth. At least she used her head and took her time to think.

This was a short and very cute read. I love that he got to know her by entering her dreams. There is something so honest about a persons dreams, it's kind of the best way to really know someone.
The story was very short sweet and to the point but it didn't feel at all rushed. I felt the moment that the characters connected and the moment they fell in love. Overall I think this is a great quick little read, perfect for any paranormal romance lover. 4.5/5 stars!

I rather liked that this one was set in the UK. It was something different than the usual USA based ones.

I liked both the characters, and the reasons they did what they did were completely plausible.

So yeah, all in all, I rather liked it. (Sorry for the quickie review, I've read like 4 books between this one and now)

I think the only thing that bothered me at all was the dream sequences and just how 'vivid' they were. Otherwise, it was all enjoyable.

Great Read!

An Injured Dog turns out to be a Wolf (Shifter) but he stays in canine form in order to spend more time with his Rescuer, Lillian.
Jake (Wolfie) can only connect with Lillian in her dreams as he sleeps in dog form in her cabin.
Great depth to the characters, I liked Jake in both Wolf and human form.

I received this book free via instafreebie in exchange for an honest review.
