At a time when Humans were just starting to venture forth into the Galactic Union as mercenaries, Martin Quincy survived long enough to do something no one else had—he retired.
There was only one problem. He got bored. What does a ‘Legend’ do when even the merc life gets boring? He starts his own company! Along with buddy Kal Turner, they marshalled their Torvasi and Andori troopers and began taking contracts. A force for good, Quincy went about the galaxy, killing aliens and getting paid, while righting all the wrongs he found along the way.
His only problem was that he was successful—too successful—and some races don’t take losing very well. Worse, they’re willing to stop at nothing—even blowing up a planet, if that’s what it takes—in order to get even with Quincy.
Can Martin find out who’s framing him and bring them to justice? Perhaps the real question is, “Will he have time?” His Sirra’Kan princess partner’s biological clock is ticking, her father Kor’Findralis, the Prime of Te’Warri, wants an heir, and now Quincy has a Blevin mistress to somehow work into the mix. What happens when you long for the simplicity of combat? You take more contracts because, on a mission, the worst thing that can happen to you is you get killed!
You know this old saying: "if it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid!" Well enters Martin Quincy who often has to do stupid (stupid as in incredibly dangerous for the physical well-being of mama Quincy's son) things to protect his troops, or his friends… Only when he does stupid stuff and it works, it ain't stupid, nope, it's legendary! Martin Quincy is a merc, a contemporary of Jim Cartwright the Elder (i.e. his adventures happen long before the Revelations Cycle). We left him at the end of Legend, more than successful (as in he got his girl (ok, she is a Sirra-Kan, so what!), his own mercenary company and even his own planet... As well as a nickname which he can't seem to evade: Legend! And that's where our story starts! The continuation of the Saga of Martin Quincy, planetary ruler, CASPer driver pioneer (his resident Jeha engineer works on prototypes to make them better and then Cartwright and Binnig integrate his ideas in new designs). In this book, you shall learn more than you wanted to know about Oogar society, Veetanho deviousness, the perversion of mercenary contracts, space pirates, loyalty, love, adventure, danger and that's only the tip of the iceberg.
Buckle up for a wild ride and enjoy! I can't wait for the next installment in the adventures of Martin Quincy and I would wish for a peek at the Sirra-Kan empire in contemporary times!
“Daskada, the Legend” is Book 3 in the Four Horsemen Sagas and book 2 in the Martin Quincy story with the short story “Legend” being the Prequel. As with “Legend: Book 1 of the Four Horsemen Tales” we again read even possible translation for Legend Chris could imagine (and we already know he has a great imagination!)
We follow a more mature Martin as he goes from one legendary screw up to another. To illustrate: He is ‘gifted’ with a Belvin princess to be one of his wives but he already has a mate and is monogamous. His mate is Quin’Tanna First Princess of the Sirra’Kan Empire. He assists the Mintaar so that they go from a subsistent planet to a rich planet with full membership in the Empire. He commands/co-owns The Mad Legion, the only mercenary company consisting of humans and aliens.
This can be read as a stand-alone book or as a series. (Being dyslexic, I naturally read them backwards (i.e. Daskada, Legend, and then Legend the prequel). However you read them, please do. They are a great adventure.
The first book I ever read in the 4HU was The Legend....I was casting around for another series as I caught up on the one I was enmeshed in. It did not disappoint then and led me to the rest. I would join the Mad Legion in a heartbeat, and move to Quincy in a second!
Entertaining branch off of the Four Horseman’s universe. Be sure and read Legend first. Ever read a book and savored the flavor? Try this one, flavors great.
Of all the Four Horsemen characters The Legend and the Mad Legion are by far my favorite. Just can get enough of these adventures. Can’t wait until the next one!
Another solid entry. The bickering really make this series. Sounds just like real world grunts. It's outrageous but you can't win legendary prizes unless you play ...
Great story and a great telling of the camaraderie that grows between people who have spent so much time in dangerous situations. I like the banter between Martin and Kal, also the continuous deprecation of Martin by guys who obviously think the world of him. Lots of butt kicking.
