Looking for your next page-turner of a novel? Please add Chrisann Dawson's "Congo Terror" to your "to read" list. It's an adventure-thriller, part romance, with characters so real I expected to find out later it's based on a true story. It is not, but the author has spent considerable time in the Congo and it shows in her vivid descriptions of life there.
A nurse from Pennsylvania, Julia travels to the central African nation of the Congo to work for several months. Unexpectedly, she and her soldier love interest, James, are captured and hauled off by a violent militia. Both Christians, Julia and James are forced to face their worst fears including the prospect of losing each other at any moment. The author does a fine job of describing the characters' harrowing ordeal making you feel like you're right there.
While reading this novel in just two sittings, I found myself immersed into the Congo landscape, its beautiful people, its food and cultural practices, and the difficulties these people face due to poverty, war, and so much more. Well-written and edited, Dawson took me to another place and culture--a thrill ride that I thorougly enjoyed. It has also made me reflect and respect to a greater degree the African peoples and the hardships they must endure. I'll never forget this story!
"Congo Terror" by Chrisann Dawson is a novel I heartily recommend!
The author makes the story compelling because she spent time in the Congo. Authenticity of the descriptions of geography as well as cultural issues kept my I terest piqued.
