The Commodore stole her off the streets in broad daylight—the first Omega female discovered in Bernard Dome in generations. He took her with violence while none intervened. He broke her, swearing he’d put her back together.
Brenya Perin was ordered to submit.
Bernard Dome is the jewel of Europe, a bastion of art and culture, pleasure and decadence. But life in the city depends on the occupation chosen for you at birth. There is no subversion, no question of who rules. There is no freedom.
And there is no interference from foreign Domes… until a new threat arrives from a distant continent. Shepherd’s right hand man, Jules.
Peace has a price, a price the Commodore of Bernard Dome is willing to pay… so long as the rare Omega remains his.
***
Shepherd’s influence is on the rise. His machinations are subtle, his hands full tending to his recovering mate. Her safety is his priority, and something he’s willing to risk war to assure. Bernard Dome has what he wants, and they will all be dammed if they deny him.
Publisher's Note: The fourth book in Addison Cain's exciting, raw, and suspense-filled Omegaverse series is a Dark Romance featuring complete power exchange.
USA TODAY bestselling author and Amazon Top 25 bestselling author, Addison Cain is best known for her dark romances, smoldering paranormal suspense, and twisted alien worlds. Her antiheroes are not always redeemable, her lead females stand fierce, and nothing is ever as it seems.
Deep and sometimes heart wrenching, her books are not for the faint of heart. But they are just right for those who enjoy unapologetic bad boys, aggressive alphas, and a hint of violence in a kiss.
On this week’s installment of We Listen and We Don’t Judge, I took a shameless detour down Smut Street. Sometimes you need a guilty pleasure to get through chores and yard work. 🙃
Thanks for keeping me entertained, Addison Cain, but must you always leave us dangling off a cliff?
OH, MY GOD!!!!! A Massive five Stars from moi!!! What a read this was, still wrapping my head around it but the verdict is I absolutely adored Addison Cain's new book Stolen (Alpha’s Control, #1). So where shall I start, Let's start with our New Alpha Mate Jaques, Commodore of Bernard Dome and all round assole!!! I bloody hate him HATE HATE HATE!!!! he is an obnoxious, selfish, egotistical douche. at least with Shepherd, I could find some initial quality's that eventually could be redeemable, Here I just want to bitch slap Jaques, like really really hard !!!
So a brief description of Stolen is we have Brenya Perin, Beta grunt in Bernard Dome recently discovered only actual known Omega under this Dome. Brenya is stolen off the streets by Jaques An alpha and Commodore. Made to submit, Brenya's every move is controlled and watched her only purpose in her new life is to serve her new Alpha master, however, he decides. Problem is Jaques is a Dick GRRR Not sure how Addison is going to redeem this big jerk but will definitely be interesting to watch. I had so much trouble with wanting poor Brenya to accept the mate bond, as I felt like screaming NO!!! you tell him where to get off girl, he's a big doofus Jerk. Brenya herself, well the way life is constructed under this particular dome you are born to your station, Brenya, as a lowly grunt has had her food and lifestyle, conditioned to leave her compliant, obedient and unremarkable. Becoming omega changes that and Brenya gets to see the corruption and selfishness that thrives at the top of the food chain as she slowly changes and becomes aware of the real agenda flowing beneath the surface of Bernard Dome. The world building In Stolen was as usual fantastic, you can actually picture it in your head and although beneath a different dome the parallels in corruption are so visible, just as they were in Tholos, it's just under a different regime, the masses are still kept subservient and in the dark, controlled from the top, but in Bernard Dome the lowly beta masses seem more like puppets almost slavelike. The relationship between our Alpha and Omega eventually comes to a head in a shocking mate bond that made me grit my teeth and seethe NO!!! I so didn't like where Stolen eventually took us, but I really didn't see it coming, so bravo Addison. it Still peed me off though and I am so mega sulking here. I have absolutely no idea how Jaques is going to bounce back now, but I'm assuming he will, I will be watching and waiting eagerly with bated breathe for this seemingly impossible event. front row tickets for sure.
We also get to revisit Shepherd and Claire again, finding out what happened after the end of Reborn, I so needed this closure.I was jumping with anticipation here, so so excited.
I'm not really going to say that much about these two just how great it was to catch up and continue with there beautifully tragic tale. It was amazing to see the love and care, especially on shepherds part as he tries to help and heal his broken mate. truly captivating I was mesmerized.
and this is where I will leave you, some of stolen is not easy reading, and I will warn you it is very graphic in places, with dubious consent throughout, this is dark fiction at its best if you are easily offended it's probably best to give this a miss. Me I loved every word and devoured Stolen. If you have read Addison Cain before you will already have an idea of what to expect so happy reading, I hope you enjoy as much as I did. Thank you To the Author for providing me with an ARC of Stolen (Alpha’s Control, #1) this is my own honest unbiased opinion.
I know from previous reads there is a line when it comes to capture/forced mate bonds and this one crossed it. Shepherd and Claire's story rode the line which made me except the art of the writing this one was too much.
I left the read liking absolutely not one single male character. I hated them all especially the Jacques and Ancil. To call them a dick heads would be demeaning to all other dick heads, they were the worst of the worst. Absolutely no redeeming qualities about Jacques, MC. He was a rapist, not just once but repeated rapist. Physically abusive and completely ignored the everyday care a person needs such as food, water, etc.... He made me sick.
My heart ached for Brenya. She tried so hard to make her escape and was so close to success before yet another man interfered taking her back to square one.
Not only did Jacques rape her but after saying he would never let another touch her, he did. He shared her with another.
There is a book 2 to this. Not going to read it. As stated earlier there was no redeeming qualities noted. I don't see this character making a turn around. Honestly, even if he did the damage is done IMO. I could not over look it.
Having just finished Alpha’s Claim which I wrongly assumed was a trilogy (well I suppose it is but it isn’t, the ending was totally unsatisfactory) I went looking for more Shepherd and Claire.
After reading the prelude I was hooked and moved straight onto this.
Brenya is a grunt known as unit 17c she’s always lived in the Beta Sector and works on the exterior wall of Bernard Dome. An accident followed by a long stay in decontamination and then a total lack of appetite has forced her body off the chemical restraints. Unbelievably she’s an Omega and she’s just been found by her Alpha. I say unbelievably because Omegas were thought to be extinct.
This story mirrors Shepherd and Claire’s in so many ways but Bernard Dome is different from Thólos in that it seems far more regimented and controlled.
The story starts with Brenya and Commodore Jacques but then we also catch up with Shepherd and Claire.
As I said earlier I only started this for Shepherd and Claire but I like this book more than any of the previous ones. And the ending wow I can’t wait for the next book.
Unless Shep releases the Red Consumption on Bernard Dome or Jules kills Jacques I'm not reading anymore of this series.
edit: Lowering from 3 to 2 stars. The longer this book simmers the more dissatisfied I become. Sure, I'm glad I got some resolution in regards to Shep and Claire, but their chapters should have been in Reborn's epilogue. I shouldn't have had to have read about Brenya, Bernard Dome, and Jacques to get to Shep and Claire. Not cool.
2nd edit: Lowering from 2 to 1 stars. I'm feeling extra salty. Plus Addison Cain is so freakin talented I know she's capable of better work. I know I'm in the minority with this opinion - I would still recommend this to people who finished the Alpha's Claim series to find out what happened to Shep and Claire.
......
2.75 stars.
I read this immediately after finishing Reborn to find out what happened to Shepard and Claire. 3.5 stars for Shep and Claire’s chapters. Some of my questions I had about the ending of Reborn were answered.
I simply did not like the new characters introduced in this book and the new setting, Bernard Dome. This is just my opinion…from other reviews it seems other people actually liked Stolen more than the Alpha’s Claim series. So this book is worth a try. I’m glad I read it, because I got more resolution in regards to Shep and Claire.
What I loved about Thólos Dome was the pessimistic dystopian world. It was dark and chaotic with no hope. The setting in a sense was a vital character. It felt real, and I got lost in the world. I found all the factions within Thólos fascinating: Shepard’s followers, the resistance, the rebellion, the former government, and the Undercroft. There were multiple side-characters that were interesting and had depth: Jules, Corday, Maryanne, Brigadier Dane, and Nona.
The new setting, Bernard Dome, was a massive let down after reading Alpha’s Claim. And I’m sorry, but I can’t help but compare the two series. Alpha’s Claim felt inspired while Stolen felt two-dimensional and contrived. It’s like Addison Cain did her best to continue to write in her Omegaverse universe, and included beloved characters from Alpha’s Claim to get readers to buy the new book.
Bernard Dome is less interesting, because there are no factions fighting the class system. There’s no resistance because the lower classes are all drugged. Brenya is a one-woman show against Jacques, and lacks the strong supporting cast Claire had in Alpha’s Claim. I miss the chaos and feeling of inevitable doom that was Thólos. I even like the Omegaverse world in Wren’s Song more than Bernard Dome. ('Bernard' is a terrible name for a Dome too)
Addison Cain tried to meld french court politics in with the Centrists or whatever they’re called in Bernard Dome. It didn’t work at all for me. I’m not into it. To pull off french court intrigue the chacters have to be able to scheme with sophistication (think Melisande and Anafiel Delauney from Kushiel’s Dart) and I just don’t buy into the Alphas’ ability to politic in this style. There's been no evidence they're capable of this kind of sophisticated scheming either.
The MMC Jacques is unimpressive to me. Of course he’s a jerk, and I don’t even care. His character feels off to me. Addison Cain describes him in a way that makes him seem like a hulk, and then gives him this french name and has him call Brenya ‘mon chou’ all the time. It’s killing me. I’m tired of Brenya constantly referring to her orgasms as ‘little deaths.’ The way Addison Cain described the Beta Sector reminded me of the Soviet Union, and I wish she would’ve chosen the ‘alternate history’ for Bernard Dome to be more Russian, instead of French. A Russian inspired culture would have worked out better.
What made Alpha’s Claim amazing was the different factions within the lower classes. We start out with the government already overthrown by Shepard and his followers of the Undercroft. Already there is a new resistance made up of civilians and the former government, and then there is a rebellion. Then there’s the lone-wolf Maryanne. I liked it so much and miss it -This is what I want more of. This is completely lacking in Stolen because the lower classes are all drugged and basically working zombies. It’s boring. All the side-characters in Stolen lack depth and I don’t care about them.
I loved Jules and I can’t believe what Addison Cain had him do at the end of Stolen. I simply didn’t like it, I feel like my favorite characters are going to be cheapened with the rest of this series and I may not continue reading. It feels like Shep and Claire are becoming diluted in this series; Addison Cain took 5 star characters and mixed them in with mediocre characters. It's not a good mix.
I'll admit I had been extremely excited to read this book. I absolutely loved the Alphas Claim series with Claire and Shepherd. In the end I felt a little disappointed. It wasn't a bad book, far from it. It was endlessly fascinating and well written. It was simply my own dislike of the "hero" Jaques (if you can call Addison's main male characters that) at the end of the day that made me almost consider not continuing the series when the next book is released.
But I know I will absolutely continue with this story regardless of my own dislike and unease with the "hero" Jaques and his choices regarding Brenya. I was absolutely appalled by his reactions and responses to Brenya many times in the book. I genuinely felt sorry for Brenya and her predicament.
Jaques was consistently a sex obsessed selfish prick. That's more or less putting it lightly. At least in Alphas Control Shepherd for all his faults had compassion and real genuine love for Claire on top of a messed up past that molded him into what he was when he was first introduced to us which very much explained many things regarding his actions toward Claire throughout their series. Did it excuse them? No, not at all. But it did make understanding him much much easier and allowed me to feel compassion for this "monster" and to see deep down to his vulnerable underbelly which ultimately is what makes me adore Shepherd. He was actually redeemable in a very twisted way when based off the rules of the world Addison has built. So, compared to Jaques he is literally an angel.
I simply cannot express my dislike for Jaques enough. He was forever impatient, selfish and indifferent to Brenya's feelings. Poor Brenya having grown up a Beta grunt and thus had her emotional side suppressed due to the Beta food supply had no idea she was an Omega. Nearly dying while repairing the dome, surviving and thinking she had been freed from confinement was then raped in the middle of the town square where everyone just stood by and watched it happen. Jaques had absolutely no self control and simply TOOK. He was so inconsiderate and violent he physically harmed her in the process. Thus when we learn he's taken her back to what I would call his "lair" he has having her inspected by a doctor and we're told about all her injuries which were many including tearing her vaginally. Even then he simply barked at the doctor to "take care of her" to "not let her die" and even then could not stop thinking about how long it would be until he could fuck her again. HONESTLY.
And from there it was just tragic, really. Brenya having been told as best as she can understand she is an Omega, which she denies passionately in the beginning, is thus weened off the Beta food supply allowing her true Omega hormones and whatever else to come out. Which leads to much of the discord of the book with Jaques and Brenya. Brenya having had her emotions suppressed all her life due to the food supply is being overwhelmed by an onslaught of feels. She doesn't like feeling and being overly emotional. She doesn't want to be an Omega. She doesn't like not having a place in this world, Jaques' world. She misses the steadfast life she had as a Beta grunt. She felt she had a purpose as Dome engineer. She feels useless and she hates the life that is revealed to her that would be her future with Jaques as the story progresses. Her discontent was a constant anger trigger for Jaques. And all the while Jaques manipulates the living bejesus out of her with sexual domination, of course. Which confuses her even more on top of all the other turmoil she is having to deal with. And add to that her friendship with the wife of Jaques "men at arms" Ancil and all that Ancil does to his wife that upsets Brenya, which I tell you PISSED ME THE FUCK OFF. As another reviewer Kathy said: "Ancil, I want to stick a dirty, dull butter knife in your eye and then take that knife out and stick it in your other eye!!!" YES. YES. YESSSSS x1000!!!
On the upside I ADORED the Shepherd and Claire chapters. I love their progression and once again Shepherd proves how far he is willing to go to heal Claire and make her as whole as possible after the horrible things that have been done to her. Bless him. He plays dirty but he does it for the very right reasons. I just wanted to hug Claire while she struggled to come to terms with the events that happened in the end of Alpha's Control.
By the end of the book I was a little confused at first by Jaques choice when Brenya was in estrous though I suspected. Either way I wasn't pleased AT ALL with is vile manipulations. I HATE him for taking Brenya's choice away from her. And I feel bad for Jules' and how his choice was taken from him also (which I'm still unsure about but at the time of reading I genuinely felt sorry for him). For being willing to share her and willingly taint the pair-bond just to get the upper hand over Shepherd and his power from Greth Dome. And when Jaques explained his motivation and what he had done to Brenya in the sneak peak chapter for the next book in the series I was JUST SO DONE. Jaques is a nasty son of a bitch and even though this was the first book I am almost certain that even Addison and her brilliant writing won't be able to make him even the tiniest bit redeemable in my eyes as she did with Shepherd.
So bad it gets zero stars. Easily one of the worst nonsensical endings in the history of everdom.
Everything about this is a complete departure from characters that were previously established in other books. Jules participates in something he never would have in the past (considering what happened to his wife). Claire and Shepherd are at a stalemate despite all the time that's passed. The new characters are infuriatingly dense, repetitive, and obnoxious- and a supposedly violently possessive mate shares his omega with an enemy? The ending is so bad it's like the author forgot her own rules (who is capable of claiming and who cannot) that are already alluded to earlier in this weaksauce deadend story. It's so bad there will never be a continuation of this lame attempt of a cliffhanger- just like the Iridisi/Sovereign books or whatever they're called. This is lazy quick cash filler at best, or a really really overpriced 176 page short story - take your pick. Either way avoid it at all costs.
Whilst you could read this without having read the Alpha's Claim trilogy (a) it would improve your understanding/make it quicker to get into the book and (b) they are so amazing you need to read them anyway! BUT be warned - when we say these books are dark we mean pitch black with dubious consent and also with rape (even if the Alpha's don't quite see it the same way). However the writing is so wonderful, the characters and settings so well thought out and presented that somehow you not only accept it - although not necessarily peacefully - but you can't put the book down until you have finished it.
Oh Brenya, how I love your strength and determination and I know you are not going to make life easy for the monster who stole you off the streets. As for that monster, Jacques, well I'm trying to remember how I felt about Shepherd after Book 1 of Alpha's Claim because, quite frankly, at the moment I hate him. I would love to see him die a slow and painful death and then watch Brenya dance on his grave ..... I can not wait to find out whether I will grow to love him or if there are other plans afoot for him.
There was one HUGE surprise in this book that cheered me up no end
Bernard Dome seemed so civilised and peaceful ..... I should have known better! I'm sure Shepherd will use this to his advantage at some point. Annette's story broke my heart and I hope we haven't seen the last of her in this series, I'd also like to see her get some justice, but I'm not sure Addison Cain's books always work that way!
The scenes with Shepherd and Claire almost felt a little disjointed but then neither can I think of any other way to bring them into this new world/situation. However I loved the book, and as I've already said, it's a 'can't-put-it-down' read. If you like dark situations and don't mind a cliffhanger (ish) ending then I highly recommend this book.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
There was a lot of guessing as to if this book was about Shepherd and Claire...and it is and it isn't. It's primarily about a new Alpha in a new Dome (Bernard) and how he goes about getting his own Omega.
It was an interesting spin but just as barbaric. I think I could live the rest of my life without ever hearing again about the slick running down a female's legs.
There are chapters interspersed about Shepherd and Claire and I LOVED it. I can't imagine reading the last book and thinking that was it AND having to wait for over a year for...something/anything more.
It was a little intriguing to read about different domes and while I was at first interested in Jacques, he didn't quite win me over as Shepherd did.
The book ends like the others with a good juicy scene at the end...OMG and you'll never guess with WHO! I was shocked. I really wasn't up to reading the next book, (Corrupted unknown release date), but now I will have to!
Yeah, nope. This didn't do anything for me. I rarely give a one star review...but oh man yikes.
Spoilery review:
Yeah, I've read a lot worse but this just rubbed me the wrong way. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This book is awful. I felt the plot is all over the place. I only read it to know about Shepherd and Claire. Otherwise I wouldn't read it because I already knew from the spoiler that the hero shares the heroine. I don't like sharing and it ruins the romance for me. Would I recommend this series to anyone? No.
This book has many issues that many people might find offensive. And even the series started out great, it went downhill in the third book Reborn. It was more likely the author was trying to continue the series bringing characters from previous books so that the readers would be interested because many of the character's fate was unknown before. Even I read this book to know what happened to the characters from the previous books. It's a very bad move for an author and I lost interest in the series. I think something is wrong with the author. She delivers really good story and then ruins it towards the end.
While this one wasn't bad per say it still left a funny taste in my mouth once i finished reading it. Conflicting emotions. Not sure how I feel about an alpha being able to share his mate like he did. I prefer my alpha males much more possessive.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
What do I say? Where do I start? If I talk about this book it might just become one big massive spoiler!
The easiest place to start is with the rating. It's the best way to begin while calming downing the nervous frenzy I am in.
I'm giving this book 5 ALPHA F*@&ING STARS! Simply because my stomach is all tied up in knots and if a book can do that it deserves a 5 star rating.
(So just a heads up, this review will discuss aspects of the Born to Be Bound Alpha’s Claim Series, so if you haven't read that, 1. This review might not make sense, 2. READ BORN TO BE BOUND, 3. Don't read any further unless you have read BORN TO BE BOUND.)
Reaction: because of the way I am currently feeling about this book – ALL OF MY MIXED UP CRAZY FEELINGS! Let me say: Holy Crap! And a bunch more CRAP! I will be thinking about this book for days and weeks and months until the second instalment is out. I am in shock! I get goosebumps talking about this book.
Addison Cain you took this book/series to a whole new level! I was shocked with Born to be Bound! SHOCKED! The ALPHA’S Control Series was about me seeking closure for Claire and Shepard. I was heartbroken with the ending of the first series and how it was left on such a major cliffhanger. I mean Grade 10 English writing course 101 ... leave the reader hooked! Have the reader determine the ending! So YUP, while I patiently waited for the Alpha’s Control Series to arrive this reader imagined a HEA for Claire and Shepard, and boy oh boy am I pleased :D!!!!! (This isn't actually a spoiler; there is turbulence for these two throughout Stolen.) I'm huge on world building. I mean, if the characters are going to act and behave in a certain way the setting better be legit! This dystopian/sci-fi dark erotica series (the erotica part is questionable IMO) is JAW DROPPING! OUT OF THIS WORLD! CRAZY!
I CAN'T BELIEVE I WASN’T EVEN GOING TO READ THIS SERIES! Born to Be Bound had popped up on my Goodreads list as a book I might be interested in reading but I had been pushing it aside because when I read the words “ALPHA”, “BETA”, “OMEGA”, I automatically assumed werewolves and the supernatural. I thought to myself *Meh. – Love this genre, love the TV Series TEEN WOLF, but didn't think I wanted to go there – surprisingly my reading frenzy has excluded books about the supernatural: witches, vampires and werewolves. I ignored this series until it kept popping up on my list and so I took a chance, read the synopsis and reviews from Goodreads to see what the buzz was all about. The reviews had me hooked! So I picked it up and finished reading the series within days. Looking back, I can remember thinking "WOW" Addison Cain, you have one crazy imagination (and this is putting it mildly). I've read other "Dome" type books. I actually like a lot of them. But this series took the dome setting to a whole new level. And I simply can't do the book justice in this review. THIS WORLD OF DOMES IS RUTHLESS! You get the nitty and the gritty of humanity in this series. People are cruel. OMEGAS are hunted like animals and used for Alpha pleasure. I hated the Alphas in Alpha’s Claim and even more so in the Alpha’s Control Series. There isn't much difference in the way Alphas think and behave towards their Beta and Omega counterparts between domes, despite that there are several (I believe Stolen referenced 12 surviving domes) they appear to be in isolation from one another. In this regard Addison Cain does an excellent job of creating a cutthroat and ruthless society where hierarchy isn’t just based on wealth and bloodline but which category of human you are designated to once you hit puberty. And Omegas get the shitty end of the hierarchy stick! In Tholos, not all Alpha’s are destined to be privileged. For Alpha Shepard, he was born in the Undercroft. Cain’s anti-hero Shepard is masterfully designed equal parts Conan the Barbarian sexy to evil despot with a soft spot for his Omega Claire (and he isn't always good to her; constantly reminding her that his flaws are a product of the corruption of Tholos that Claire so desperately wants to believe has some good in it.) On the other hand we have Jacques from Bernard Dome. I wanted to find something to like about this Alpha. I had hoped. But he is no anti-hero. At this point I can’t find anything redeemable about his character. My feelings are mixed. Sometimes he seems to hold his aggression back from Brenya. But then he does one shitty thing after another to her and to his subjects under Bernard Dome. The ending killed me!!!! But I will say that I love how Ms. Cain has created a ruthless leader to hate. The visceral reaction I have towards Jacques is sign enough that Cain knows how to draw out strong emotions from her readers. HATS OFF to you Ms. Cain!
So, now that I'm warmed up, let’s get started. Stolen has multiple perspectives and involves two settings, Greta (Gerth) and Bernard Dome. Claire and Shepard have settled in Greta Dome while Jacques, Commodore of Bernard Dome, has discovered the only Omega (Brenya) to be born under this dome for over a century. We get to see how Brenya copes with her lifestyle change from a Beta to an Omega. This isn’t some fancy fairy tale where our heroine is picked up from the mundane life of a Beta to a now coveted Omega. NO! Under Bernard Dome both Beta's and now the lone Omega serve the needs of the affluent and power driven Alphas. I would hate to be Beta or Omega, from the hormone suppressants in their food and water supply, to the drugs that make Betas mindless automatons. Now that Brenya is no longer on these medications (Omegas need an alternative diet for reproductive reasons) the cruel reality of Bernard Dome sets in and becomes more apparent to her that she and her fellow Betas have been duped! The hormonal changes she endures sends her into a frenzy of mixed emotions as she struggles to maintain her Beta personality while her Omega hormones betray her. Jacques believes he is being patient with Brenya as she adjusts to an Omega’s role in their society but doesn’t really challenge the mishap of her placement. To challenge the order and protocols of Bernard Dome would be a direct attack on the procedures that have kept Alpha males in power and would be a direct attack on Jacques' own leadership. There are moments where Jacques even doubts the loyalty of his government/advisors and the Centrists population, threatened by potential usurpers. So the idyllic society that Unit 17C (aka Brenya) portrays of Bernard Dome is in fact marred by corruption that poor Omega Brenya must now endure.
Between discovering “the ugly” of Bernard Dome and seeing the heeling process that Claire undergoes in Greta Dome (with the aid of her mate Shepard) there is a good balance of heart wrenching moments, and fist clenching rage. But be prepared for that roller-coaster of emotions because you will hate, you will feel betrayal, you will want revenge and you will feel helpless as you experience what these characters go through.
There is certainly very sensitive subject matter in this book. The whole topic of gender inequality, slavery, rape, human trafficking, social hierarchy and exploitation of the disadvantaged is examined in this dystopian piece. People are used, abused and taken advantage of. Addison Cain does a fantastic job of creating characters that must struggle with and persevere through hierarchical greed and leaves you questioning, when it comes to the good/betterment of the State is there such a thing as free will?
To finish off, there were aspects of the book I really enjoyed but I also noted a few things that I might not have cared for and am interested to see how Ms. Cain handles this in Book 2. So, to address the part about her vocabulary choice and how it makes the tone of this story so out of this world… In a futuristic society where people have the knowledge, intelligence and science to live in bio domes you would think people got their shit together. You know, like being “civilized”, having an ethical stance… you catch my drift. In the world of the domes, it seems like Alpha’s are driven by lust, especially for Omegas. I mean are we looking at a futuristic intelligent group of humans or people from the Stone Age? The way Alphas, Betas and Omegas are portrayed so raw and animalistic I had difficulty grounding in a “time and place”, and I LOVED that aspect of the book. Like this could happen at any time and if as a society we had to be selective with reproduction and population control how would we reorganize our class structure? So when I say animalistic, terms like “rutting” and “knotting” and ”slick” - to name a few - really made this society feel barbaric when it came to mating. I think the language, the feral canine-like coitus and even the third person limited perspective gave enough detachment of the story from our own world to make this feel out of the ordinary (an understatement, I know). Now, about the cultural stereotype cliché, you know Bernard Dome, in France, the whole ménage thing… I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about all this, but it doesn’t change my rating. Now, I’m headed into spoiler territory here so I’ll keep my lips zipped and let you read the novel to figure that all out. BUT, to see the least, this part was confusing. Addison Cain created her world with a particular order to things (like territorial Alpha's regarding their mate) and now she’s changing some of the rules. So, like I said above, I’m interested to see where she’s gonna go with that.
Pick up the book. Start it. If you already read the first series and enjoyed it, you won’t be disappointed with the latest instalment. Please give me your opinions and insight about this book. It’s definitely one I want to talk about. If I’ve misinterpreted anything please point it out. I would love to read any of your ideas about Stolen!
P.S. And just to add on another point now that I had a few days to stew on my thoughts I'll add one more thought. I hope that Earth has become viable to sustain life for Omegas outside of the Domes. I hope that Ms. Cain ends this entire series with a mass Omega exodus from the domes where Alphas can't survive and Claire becomes the leader, establishing a matriarchy!
I'm just going to have to come out and say it . . . What in the ever loving F*CK?!
THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!
I'm not exactly sure what I expected from this installment of the Alpha series, but I got more - much more. I absolutely devoured this book!! Not only did I love the continuation of Claire and Shephard's story, but I also loved Brenya and the way she dealt with her alpha-hole, Jacques.
If you liked the first 3 books, you MUST read this one! No question.
Bernard Dome, the setting for Brenya and Jacques' story, was so well-done. Betas are basically a slave class that are drugged to keep them docile and happy; they find satisfaction in serving the Dome in their assigned careers. And Brenya was the quintessential Beta worker drone who took pride in her work as a structural engineer - until events led her to being 'discovered' and stolen by Jacques, the Alpha leader.
The character of Brenya took a great story and made it exceptional for me. She was written with such care. Her upbringing and sweet, honest nature may have left her completely ill-equipped to deal with Jacques - but it sure made for some good reading. Her blunt naivete allowed her to boil every situation down to its core, needling Jacques, pointing out his hypocrisy, and inadvertently showing her disgust like an open book. Truly superb writing.
Jacques. What can I say about him? Completely despicable and with his head far, far up his ass. The difference between Shephard and Jacques? Shephard makes his own rules. Jacques must abide by the rules of Bernard Dome and its superficial and callous upper class. Plus, Jacques is everything that Shephard despises: spoiled, entitled, and using the corrupt status quo to keep himself in luxury. This will eventually come to a head, I'm sure - and I cannot wait!
But for now, Shephard and Claire are trying to re-build their lives across the world in Gretha Dome. Their scenes together were that same mix of poignant and aggravating that I've enjoyed so much over the series.
The only contact between the two domes comes in the form of Jules (remember him? Shephard's right hand man) who's been sent as a trade ambassador to 'coax' Bernard Dome into becoming allies of Shephard's new rule in Greth Dome.
So overall . . . the twists and turns in this book were just awesome. And that cliff-hanger? Holy crap! Just holy crap! I can't wait for the next book!
Addison Cain's books are adrenaline pumping, nail-biting, angst-fueled page-turners with sex so hot it leaves your Kindle smoking. And this book... Oooo, it's so good!
I've long been a fan of books that take you on a journey. Books that grab you by the lungs and squeeze just a bit, the anxiety of what's coming next holding you in its grip. Stolen, Alpha’s Control book 1, and the preceding series, Alpha's Claim, do exactly that.
This book introduces us to the dystopia of Bernard Dome; a Dome where you're born to a station. Clean and beautiful, everything is regimented under the command of the Commodore and alpha, Jaques. For him, its only lack is that it's a Dome without omegas...
Until he comes across Brenya, the only omega in Bernard Dome known to exist, and takes her with a violence that leaves her hollow and broken. And while he stops at nothing to make her his, all she longs for is freedom.
As she did in the previous series, this author once again makes you love to hate some of the characters, with the smallest shred of hope that they will somehow learn what love is... Or, at least get a most torturous end. (Hey, a girl can hope. Don't judge me.) Jaques, and especially Ancil, were the target of all of my murderous thoughts.
While I knew that this series was related to the Alpha's Claim series, I was pleasantly surprised to see how intertwined the stories were. It brought another layer to this world. Also, several beloved characters from the previous series have an integral part to play in this new story and I love it. If you haven't read Alpha's Claim series, I highly recommend you read that before starting this series.
Dark, depraved, and unique with a subtle commentary on the world that makes you think, Stolen is a must read.
Having read the first of the Alpha series, I was interested in seeing how this one fared up. I should have known better, since the gang rape in the second book was rather not to my taste, but nonetheless I still think this author writes rather compelling stories. I like her style, and she actually submerges you into this dystopian world of her creation, which is uncommon in romance novels. So I started this book with high expectations (although I had dropped the second in the previous series after the gang rape). Now I’m not usually bothered by forced seducción, or rape, it really depends on how it’s written. I loved Brenya, I thought she was a great character. She had dignity and in her own way fought against submitting to Jaques, without becoming an annoying shrew. I wasn’t even that bothered about how much of a cruel asshole Jaques is... until he shared her. Wtf, I think it goes against alpha male’s intrinsic being to share a mate, that’s like cuck’s behavior, emasculated men that don’t mind their wives sleeping with other men, and yet that’s exactly what Jaques does. I remember distinctively reading in her previous series that Betas could not bond-mate, and that’s why poor Jules gets his omega wife stolen from him by the senator, so how the hell is he able then to part-bond with Brenya, and why would Jaques allow that shit to begin with? So I dropped it. If sharing bothers you as much as it does me, don’t bother.
WOW, what a ride!! Addison Cain never disappoints. Her female MC perfect as usual, Brenya, like Claire before her, and despite being an Omega, a natural born submissive, never submit. She was strong, courageous, loyal. I loved her. Jacques reminded me of Domenico from The Silver Devil in his ways, but I didn't disliked him and I trust Addison Cain to redeem him in the future just as she did for Shepherd.
Ancil is the Svana in this story, I really hope he dies a thousand deaths for what he did to poor Annette. I'm looking forward for the next book and dread it at the same time. Claire and Brenya really deserve a HEA!
I love discovering, to me, new authors...and Addison Cain is my latest discovery, even though I am probably amongst the latest members that discovered her LOL
anyway, this story is ALL about pushing the limits of sexual intercourse and the roles females/males are supposed to perform and conduct in order to sustain the power, achieve the selection for the personal gain...and so on...
it's a fantasy genre, so it's an absolutely open space and very fruitful soil for a total freedom of expression...
this story has everything in it, it will make you borderline in questioning and finding the justified reasons to approve the conducts of these alphas...yes, they do things on the verge of dubious and vile and yet in the roughness, it shows the background of their mindset and the way they extort their power...they are true animalistic alphas, leaders and conquerers...and they not only take, they also provide the essence of pleasures for their Omegas, even though at the given time, the females are not aware of it, and they fight it...
it's a true example of exchange power...tempting, and you can't stop reading about it...
This is probably the first time ever I had to subtract 2 stars from my initially planned rating due to the 'hero' of this book. I even contemplated giving it only 1 star, but the writing is just too good for such a low rating. The hero, however, is not.
When there's a point in a book where you wish for the heroine to die so she can escape the 'hero's' machinations - then there is no point of return for the hero in my opinion. Since I prayed for the heroine to simply drop dead for her own sake at least 3 times in this book, I think I can rest my case.
Okay this is the second, spinoff, series in the post apocalyptic world of Born to be Bound. We're starting in a new dome and with a new hero and heroine. I use the term hero loosely because this guy is an entitled jerkwad like the last guy. However, there are some scenes with Claire and Shepherd. Claire is still recovering so kudos to the author for the realism. The world building continues here and we find out more about how the world went to hell in a handbasket. So I think this guy might be even worse than Shepherd because his only reason for being such a dick is entitlement.
I honestly didn’t read this book in full. I only read Claire and Shepherd’s chapters. I completely ignored the new couple, if we can even call them a couple.
Like there was a lot of ambiguity and a lot of controversy when you think about the last couple (Claire and Shepherd)... I mean their relationship was pretty much f***** up.
But this is even worse, I only read a few paragraphs and wow this couple is even worse.
I literally only read the old couple’s chapters and even then, because of everything that happened in the last book, Claire was completely wrecked. I feel sorry for the girl.
From the time I learned that Addison Cain was bringing out a new spinoff from her Alpha Claim series, I have heavily anticipated it. I have described it as a series you love to hate and personally considered the ending brilliant, allowing the reader to come to their own conclusions as to what truly happens with Shepherd and Claire. Well, readers, buckle up and get ready for a new ride and I look forward to the journey. While this is a spinoff, I do think the reader could start this series and not be lost if they missed reading Alpha’s Claim series (but why would you want to miss it?)
Readers, brace yourself, this new series has two stories and two sets of main characters in one, but it all is in collaboration with each other. Shepherd and Claire will return, alive, and in Greta Dome and we meet Commodore Jacque Bernard and Brenya Perin of the Bernard Dome. The plot will switch back and forth between Greta and Bernard Domes and the characters in those areas. It will have the two leaders working on a trade agreement of Omegas for orange trees.
With Unit 17C of Palo Corps, Brenya Perin will be working outside Bernard’s Dome, when everything goes wrong, she is injured and on her own. Surviving the fall, dislocating her shoulder, and a large cut on her face is minor compared to being treated like a pariah by all the other Betas. Attacked, dragged to a ventilation duct and claimed by not just an Alpha, but the Commodore will spin this tale into motion. “She had zero control. She had no way of stopping it.”
Brenya it turns out is not Beta but is an Omega. The chemicals in her diet have suppressed her, but now that she is fasting in defiance of her treatment, her genetic makeup is scented by an Alpha. “Her metamorphosis has been uncomfortable.” Her life as she knew it as a Beta is gone. “She was never going to be returned to her cot at the barracks—there was no place for her there, her skills were no longer needed—this he had told her every time she ‘d questioned.” “Mon chou, this discomfort, and confusion will pass. Once we are fully bonded, you will wonder why you were ever afraid.”
“You are never going to feel the way you did before. You are never going to be who you were before.” “Somewhere in this body of yours, you know I already own you. The pair-bond is only a formality.” “Never will you put yourself at risk. I am Commodore, and I will protect the Dome and all who live in. I will protect you from yourself.”
Once again, Ms. Cain has spun a tale that kept the pages turning with her altered world and reigning Domes after the Red Consumption has killed most of the inhabitants of Earth. The story is full of twists and turns, mystery and suspense, angst, bitterness, and power struggles. Alphas rule Betas follow, and Omegas serve. The scenes are explicit and include non-consensual, unequal power exchange, control, and not for those who do not enjoy dark erotic horror. I am looking forward to book 2, Corrupted.
First, this is a dark, let me repeat, a dark "romance/ horror" story. I might have the genre wrong, so don't quote me on it, but I would classify this story in that genre. So my advice, read up what a dark read is before your read this story; so you know you are about to read something that is designed to f**k with you. There are no moments of the heroine getting butterflies in her stomach or the dashing hero's seducing the virginal maiden. Not that kind of book; this story focuses on Brenya and her forced relationship with Jacques. You will read about rape, the exploitation of people, forced captivity, degradation, humiliation, and the corruption of the powerful. Honestly, this story is messed up; but, did the story pull me in, did I LOVE every WTF moment, and did it force me to image the confusion, hurt, pain, and fear Brenya's character must have felt??!! ABSOLUTELY!!! Addison Cain's ability to build such 3 dimensional characters on paper is just why it's so easy to read her dark and twisted stories in one sitting. I loved Brenya's character. She is smart, strong, and a total badass. This book focuses mostly on her emerging emotions and her relationship with Jacques. Do I recommend, hell yes! If you love stories that step outside of society standards on love, or interested in a twisted take on healthy relationships... then purchase and read already. Addison has failed to disappoint me. Five stars!!
Some SPOILERS... Stop reading if you want to remain clueless.
I hated Jacques! He is an entitled prick, has little control, and little remorse for his actions. He justifies his bad behavior and excuses others. Brenya's character endures a lot from Jacques. I felt so bad for her and I hated that her own body and instincts betrayed her. I really don't want to spoil too much, but I hope she gets her happy ending or at least some happy moments with a certain guy who can see that omega women are people. Needless to say, I can't wait for the next installment of this series; I know Brenya's character is not done suffering. And I'm totally f**ked up for wanting to read about it lol.
I purchased this book but I did receive a ARC copy.
I don’t know why I continue to read this trash. But you gotta love an Amazon romance novel. Not sure I’ll continue with the series. I’m disappointed in how it included Claire’s story, but in a way that was so vague.
