Exceptional book. I fell in "love" with Adunni, the main character. SHE IS BRAVE, INSPIRING AND DETERMINED. This story informs you about Nigeria and I like learning in this offhand way. The story reminds us how fortunate most of us are to have been educated and nurtured through our lives. Most everyone in two book groups that I have spoken with has loved this book. I hope this talented author writes a sequel (and if not, at least another book).

I listened to this not knowing if I would be able to understand the Nigerian accent of the main character’s reader but I almost always understood every word. The inspirational story about a young woman who was determined to reach her goals kept my interest as the drama unfolded revealing pain, but strong love of family and friends in Nigeria. It reminded me again of the cultural struggles faced by so many people the world over and of the resiliency of the human spirit!

The strength and power of Adunni's voice are made possible by her creator, Dare. The author's use of English to convey the natural Nigerian language and dialect of Adunni (and other characters) is so, so well done, the reader is transported into their world. It is a world where girls and women are not encouraged to have voices, let alone "louding" ones. All the best, Adunni! And way to go, Dare!

This was an incredible inspiring story for all girls. Education is so important and should be sought after no matter what. This girl Adunni aspired to better herself no matter what she suffered through. This was well written, although difficult to read at times, was an inspiration to all.
