I received an ARC of this manga in exchange for an honest review.
Lizel and Gil are once again on an adventure! This time, accompanied by Judge, the two adventurers head to Marcade. Lizel is determined to sight-see, while Gil just wants to fight a strong opponent. A new character appears, and he is rather interesting. Later on, the adventurers discover something strange...
Once again, this volume was so light-hearted and amusing! The personality differences between Lizel and Gil never fail to entertain me, especially with all the trouble they get themselves into. Shadow, the new character, might end up being one of my favorites! This volume was enjoyable and I look forward to more adventures with Lizel and Gil!
Having enjoyed volume one of A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation, I was keen to see what would be in store next for Lizel and Gil. Volume two continued in a fairly lighthearted vein, with some more nice moments between Lizel and Gil. The trip out of town allowed us to meet some new characters, including the interesting Shadow, and there was still some action and adventure towards the end of the volume. I finished volume two still interested in learning more of the world and characters and so would definitely like to keep reading into volume three. Recommended for fans of lighthearted fantasy-adventure mangas. It's 4.5 stars from me.
I received this book as a free eBook ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation is such a lovely manga. It's a delightful and quick read with gorgeous art and nice storyline. There's adventure, action, mysterious characters and fantastical labyrinth, where adventurers can go to treasure hunt and slay monsters. Lizel also loves books, which is a great for a bibliophile like me; Lizel pretty much hears that somewhere has books and there he goes. Lizel's delightfully whimsical and I love to see Gil's reactions to his whims. There's also a new character introduced so even more mysteries ahead, which I like in this series. I cannot wait for the third volume!
I love the slow, no stress, vacational pace of the manga. Not much is happening, but that's fine, it's fun to slowly explore with Lizel and watch everyone getting enamored and intrigued with him. And quite overprotective. His book obsession is also very relatable.
I'm still having a little bit of trouble following the "plot" - the first chapter was especially choppy, jumping between events that felt like they were just crowded in to get elements out of the way - but I'm still enjoying it a weird amount.
I like the art. I like the relationship between Lizel and Gil, although there's a bit less of that this time around, since they're caught up in adventures in another town. I'm even getting used to the fantasy game environment, although I do wish we were getting more actual story about Lizel himself, or even some of Gil's past.
The hints of Lizel's vulnerabilities at the end were nice, though, and I appreciate that he and Gil rely on and trust each other.
I hope the plot starts to get a bit more in depth in subsequent volumes - is the thing with this mercantile lord going to be anything? - but we'll see. I might still enjoy this as just a pleasant, pretty read, even if it goes nowhere significant. I guess it's like Lizel says when he's sitting in a sunny spot for a while, simply zoning out...sometimes you need to set your busy agenda aside and just enjoy relaxing for a while. It's not a bad choice, especially when the artistic scenery is nice.
This book feels like DnD got mixed with a fantasy RPG. It's interesting how the concept of dungeons, maps, and loot are incorporated into a world seemlessly.
My biggest issues are how, as the reader, I feel dragged along with little to no idea as to what a lot of things are, the plot, the characters, etc. You don't get really any internal dialogue to help discover who Gil and Lizel are, and there are various other characters who obviously are watching them, but there's no explanation or even a hint given as to why. I'm totally OK with having no clue where a plot is going, but I would like some sort of connection to the characters where I know something more about them, or even a vague idea of what they want to do. Instead, this feels meandering with no direction--I'm assuming there is one, but I, as a reader, haven't been shown it. There are a lot of vague hints to vague ideas of stuff, but they're so vague that it's hard to form an idea as to what is going on.
I will keep reading it if only to find out what is going on in this story, but I definitely think there needs to be more information given regarding the characters and their thoughts or ideas on stuff.
I've received ARC from publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
I was looking forward to read about Gil and Lizel. First volume pleasantly surprised me and I was more than ready to continune their adventure.
Second volume follows where first one ended. It's not as action packed as the first one. Author focuses more on character building, introduction of new characters and setting plot for something bigger. I wasn't bothered by slower pace, in fact I might enjoy it even more. I enjoyed developing relationship between Lizel and Gil and "jealousy" by some new characters. That was fun.
Misaki's art style is pretty clean and pleasant to look at. A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation is a little fun series I'd enjoy to everyone who wants to relax and enjoy some simple but cute story.
The art style continues to be very pretty to my eyes; I love it.
I still like/prefer Gil over Lizel because certain characters just consume my soul and leave me attached.
I still don’t quite care about the plot/story itself but it still wasn’t bad. And the characters still aren’t particularly annoying. It feels…too short.
I am loving this series so much. Gil and Lizel are the perfect travel companions. Their personalities match seamlessly and provide several comedic moments. Lizel's interactions with this new world he has never traveled to makes the story interesting as you are learning new things with him. You have the adventurers aspect of DanMachi that really pushed this series over the edge to 5 stars for me. While book two is mostly exposition with not a lot of action, you can tell that the story is leading up to something big. I cannot wait for volume 3. A special thanks to the publisher for allowing me access to this ARC. It definitely did not disappoint.
Lizel and Gil are now officially a team, and one of their first jobs has them escorting one of Lizel's acquaintances to another city. There, Lizel continues to explore the local dungeon and the city, and somehow trouble is never far behind . . .
Best line in the book: "Please---Please don't assume everyone can do pull-ups..."
Lizel continues to amuse. With Gil to protect him, he's free to instigate or escalate any number of minor issues, such as when he decides to meet the secretive lord of the city they're visiting.
Underneath the flippancy, though, there's also a growing sense that Lizel has been lonely. Not just because he's an alien to this world, but because he has trouble relying on other people, despite the fact that he's got a positive gift for making other people his friends. I'm not as keen on the fact that most of those friendships are portrayed with an element of romance, but I do find it interesting that Lizel has enough insight into other people that he's able to work his way past their defenses, yet he's also not interested in using or abusing that power.
The art, as always, is very pretty. I found some of the fight scenes lackluster, but as the fighting isn't really the main attraction, it was good enough.
Overall if you liked the first book, this one is equally good. Sometimes the plot can get a little hard to follow, like the sudden meeting with the lord, but the characters are enough fun that I enjoyed this book. I rate this book Recommended.
A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation, Volume 2, by Misaki is scheduled for release on January 19 2021. I do recommend reading this series in order.
When Lizel mysteriously finds himself in a city that bears odd similarities to his own but clearly isn't, he quickly comes to terms with the unlikely truth: this is an entirely different world. Even so, laid-back Lizel isn't the type to panic. He immediately sets out to learn more about this strange place, and to help him do so, hires a seasoned adventurer named Gil as his tour guide and protector. Until he's able to find a way home, Lizel figures this is a perfect opportunity to explore a new way of life adventuring as part of a guild. After all, he's sure he'll go home eventually, might as well enjoy the otherworldly vacation for now!
Much like the first volume of A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation, this installment is well written and drawn. I liked the pacing and the artistic style of the work. The digital galley I received had a few formatting issues- but I am certain that it will look perfect in its final version. I liked the character development done in the story, and loved getting a closer look at Lizel, Gil, and the variety of people they come across together. It has adventure, friendship, and a bit of mystery all wound up in detailed artwork. I think that everyone that enjoyed the first volume will be happy with this volume as well, and just as eager to see where the story goes next as I am.
Thank you to Independent Publishers Group, TokyoPop, and NetGalley for the e-ARC to read and review!
The adventure begins albeit at a leisurely pace in the merchant town of Marcade. Lizel’s joy at the sights and curiosity are infectious. Lizel is eager to sight-see while Gil just wants to test his skills against powerful opponents.
I love how smitten Judge, who accompanies Lizel and Gil to Marcade, is with Lizel. Judge is so darling and I hope he becomes a member of their party. I think he’d be a delightful addition to the group.
Lizel and Gil are so compatible with each other and are surely on track to becoming fast friends. They are an eye-catching pair in more ways than one so of course strange trouble follows. Lizel is very astute and it’s interesting how he manages to solve pieces to any puzzle he and Gil are faced with.
Those last few scenes between the two were very appealing and I wonder how what took place will affect their relationship going forward.
This volume is okay in the sense that you get to learn more about the mysterious Lizel, but once again, not much happens. It's frustrating since the story is moving slowly, even though we get introduced to 2 new nobles in this volume along with some action scenes during a trip to another city and a dungeon adventure.. The artwork is very pretty and the creature designs are somewhat scary enough to pose a challenge to our adventurers. They note at the end that this is based on a light novel,, so perhaps the pace of the light novel is better.
But the slow pace might be to your liking, since Lizel is on vacation in another world, and wouldn't you want to go your preferred pace on vacation? For me, I read it because I still want to find out about who Lizel actually is in his own world. The curiosity kept me reading. I would recommend picking this up at the library though.
3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley for providing a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
Overall, I really enjoyed this volume. We got to travel to another city with Lizel and Gil, with Judge and Studd along as well, and the new surroundings provided some new information about the world for Lizel (and us!), and allowed us to get to know Judge and Studd a little better. I love Lizel's laid back attitude about things, and Gil's tolerance of Lizel's quirks. Judge's fanboying over Lizel is too cute, and Studd? Well, he's a stud, what can you say? We get more hints at undercurrents and intrigue, but my only complaint with this volume is we don't get enough forward movement. I do like a good slow burn, but you gotta stoke the fire a bit more if you wanna keep it going! That said, this was a pleasant journey that added more character development, and learning about the mechanics of the dungeons was interesting. And don't forget the BL teases and swoony art style! Looking forward to the next volume!
As in the first volume, this book is quiet enough and starts right after the previous one. We see that the bond between Lizel and Gil is strengthening, the chemistry becomes more noticeable, and I take the opportunity to clarify that it is not a romance, but a growing friendship where each one contributes something to the team that they make up. This second volume was doubtlessly more eventful than the first but was still a very slow-moving addition to this cozy series. Gil and Lizel continue to do little but explore wherever Lizel's interest takes them and collect a horde of friends and enemies along the way. One of the most entertaining parts so far is how everyone is confused, attracted, or put off by Lizel and his strange personality/demeanor.
I don't know if Gil and Lizel's relationship will turn romantic at any stage (I'm feeling those vibesss), but watching them slowly open up and confide in each other, even just throughout these two volumes, has been a delight. I've already downloaded the third installment and can't wait to start reading!
Volume 2 of A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation has us continuing to follow Lizel as he discovers more about this world he’d found himself in while Gil continues to tag along looking for something strong to test himself against. I loved seeing more of Studd and Judge and of course the world. This series so far has been light hearted and just a really enjoyable read and I look forward to seeing the world continue to grow and expand and see what is further in store for Lizel as he just takes in everything around him like it’s the world’s weirdest vacation until he may or may not get back to his own world. *** Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I was able to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a lovely manga. It is refreshing in its originality, well developed story lines, fleshed out characters, and charm. I can't wait for volume 3. However, I am going to revisit volumes 1 and 2 just to take in the detail more, as it is beautifully drawn and each volume is a story unto itself whilst still a continuation of the main storyline. I like manga, but tend to find some a tad immature sometimes, however, this on a different level entirely. It is sophisticated and stunningly elegant in its gentle simplicity. It almost reminds me of the charm behind the artwork of the studio ghibli anime in feel. Timeless. I hope there are many more volumes to come.
Yet another solid 4🌟 for volume 2 of this series! New characters are introduced and some more exploring is done by Lizel and Gil. Judge got more focus this volume which was a pleasant surprise. I’m hoping Studd is incorporated more in upcoming volumes. This quartet would be an interesting one. The art is impeccable and the story is progressing along nicely. Again, this series isn’t a hardcore shonen or seinen. It’s pretty easy going with hints of a deeper plot in regards to Lizel.
I will definitely be sticking with this series!
Side note - it looks like Lizel has a harem forming. It’s not confirmed per se but the volume is setting up something with Rizel, Gil, Studd and Judge.
3 stars? I feel like I'm missing something storywise from not having read the light novels. I do enjoy the artwork though. I found the last couple chapters flowed a bit better. Maybe that is because the characters have been introduced now. I like the merchant city, the auction was a bit underwhelming but that guide was obviously worthwhile! I want to know so much more about Lizel and Gil too for that matter. Beyond a love for finding strong things to kill, what makes Gil tick. Anyway, interesting enough, I think I'll give it one more volume to win me over.
I like it. We got so much Lizel + Gil content. Especially when Gil was literally wrapping Lizel in his arms so he doesn’t feel the burn. It was so cute.
The series’s not totally outright BL but I would say it’s still up that alley. I luv it because the BxG just has been so overused and nothing really gives me the thrill anymore cuz I’ve seen it all. But switching it up to BxB makes me giggle like a horse. It’s like I’m experiencing romance all over again in a whole different light and I LOVE IT.
Lizel and Gil are still so epic to me and with the addition of Judge it's an even more fun time with them. I love how light-hearted this is to read. The action and adventure are both gripping. I love the magic that Lizel has and Gil is forever a savage to me. Studd still cracks me up with his anger and quickness. Loved the addition of Shadow, he looked like an older version of Gil. The art is still as great to me. Can't wait for more!
Once more we find ourselves immersed in the world of Lizel, an innocent yet mysterious character, and Gil, Liezel's tour guide turned guild partner, and towards a new adventure, this time in a merchant’s town where they will meet a new lord that has yet to decide whether to be an ally or an enemy.
This second volume follows the previously stablished design and will present us with new information about the characters, their motivations and their relations(?!). Still the volume brings that "in between" sensation of transition between the events of the past volume and the story to come.
An e-ARC of this book was kindly provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I’m totally loving this series!! It’s so appealing! These labyrinths get more interesting as I read! I love Gil’s and Lyzel’s dynamics! I love how their relationship is growing stronger and they are learning to depend on one another for help! The friends they meet along the way have their quirks but help them out! Lizel has such a dazzling light and is so smart! Gil is so tough!! And judge is super adorable! Im looking forward to the next volume! Thank you for this story!
Why does this series exist? Dull, boring, senseless and stupid are the adjectives that come to mind. Stilted dialogue, extraneous panels, no character development or hint of a real plot, and a storyline 5th graders could beat are the best this title can offer. The artwork is blasé and makes me want to take a nap. It might be aimed at a younger audience, but that’s just an insult to teens and tweens.
Still so boring. It seems like every character has a crush on Lizel, but also none of them are gay so I guess they don't? The character interactions feel unnatural because of this, cuz there's no reason for them to be blushing over him. The art is still decent, but the story is too much of a slog to get through for me to care.
IMPRESSIONS ➽ I’m going to be honest: I think I’ll DNF this series! I did enjoy the first volume - but have since rated it down to 3 stars, as it wasn’t that memorable - but this isn’t what I was hoping for. The premise of a Noble being stuck in a different world and working as an adventurer was SO good, but it’s barely used here. Lizel doesn’t really try to get back to his world or even think about how he ended up in this new world. The most intriguing part of the premise keeps being ignored to the point where I question why it was even included. Lizel could have been a part of this world and nothing would have changed. The story also feels like it’s going nowhere, there’s no goal and this volume felt largely like filler.
➽ The characters were intriguing at first, but felt so shallow. Lizel is basically good at everything and absolutely everyone is obsessed with him, which got old real fast. Gil is more the brooding, distant type, but I don’t feel like we got to know him at all. The dynamics between the characters just feel so over the top and I’m not really interested in seeing where they go.
I must say, this manga is growing on me. I find this volume to be more endearing, both in the characters and the events. There's been more development and the attachment to the characters is growing now that they've been together for a bit and are revealing things.
I must say though, the art style is nice. I like it a lot, everything looks beautiful and I love that.
I’m having a good time with this series so far but I don’t like it quite enough to push it into four star territory yet. Seems like everyone is into Lizel, and hey I get it. His relationship with Gil is cute and the end where he was being a little vulnerable, love it. I haven’t picked up the third volume yet but I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
