Darcie Burrows always hoped that the man she lost years ago and assumed dead would come back somehow. She felt it deep in her bones that he was still out there somewhere trying to come home to her instead of dead as the military pronounced.

That hope began to fade when she loses their house and is forced to move. Thanks to a friend’s offer she can have a fresh start in a new state. At a welcoming barbeque she meets Daniel who is unlike any man she had ever met and awakens feelings in her she long thought dead. Is she even ready to date and start over? She had been waiting so long for Drew to come home she felt she missed her opportunity to have a family.

Daniel “Bear” Kingsley is a beast of a man who took one look at Darcie and every part of his body screamed mine. Darcie didn’t want to let go of the ghost of her first love but with gentle encouragement he shows her all she has been missing waiting for a man who would never come home to her.

Just as Darcie and Daniel start building a relationship they are dealt a devastating blow that could tear them apart. Darcie is shell shocked to discover the man she loved and lost years ago and assumed dead is in fact very much alive. Things are far from perfect from their first reunion. The man she knew is long gone. Will she stay and fight for her first love or let him go to be with Daniel who could be her true love?

I knew holding onto this series was a good choice because I really enjoyed the couple. It had the "my love of my life died but then came back" throne but with a twist I haven't read nearly as much as I want to. The emotions felt raw in moments and very real which I really enjoy in my romance. Not very angry heavy but had it's moment with realness and raw emotions

This book is a part of the Delta Force Guardians series. So I had met the characters before, but getting their story from their perspective was so incredible. To be inside their heads to learn what they were thinking/feeling. I can't imagine, what it must feel like to lose a man you love to war, and then try to pick up the pieces of your life, and start to fall in love with another man, only to learn that your first love is alive! What a complete mind- mess up would that be?!? That's this story. It pulled on my heartstrings and made me fall in love twice.

I love the premise of this type of story where you love someone and he "disappears" for a time and comes back knocking the life you knew on its backside.

What didn't work in this one was the FC such a miserable character. Didn't want to change her ways, didn't want to go out, didn't want to move on since "losing" Drew. She had one hell of a self pity party.

Unfortunately the authors writing voice was one that I couldn't engage with. There was so much contradiction of the script e.g "the moment Daniel fell instantly in love with her' to "while he couldn't say he was in love with Darcie" and this went on throughout the book. The MC or FC would say one thing and contradict what they had previously said soon after.

This was was not for me.
