Who knows where a child's fantasy will take them, Natalie's dreams as a child influenced the rest of her life with the help of a kindly old jeweler named Mr. Guilders. She was only eight years old when she was given a wonderful opportunity with the old man to learn all about timepieces. What started out as a whim turned into a compass for the rest of her life.
I am always thrilled when I come across a Jean Kuhnke book that I haven't read yet. This story of inspiration and guidance between an aging man and a young girl taught the art of watch repair is much deeper as the lessons and relationships forged are all influenced by the apprenticeship. Great reading!
A young child who had the patience even then, to listen and learn about what her grandfather did. A good story about timepieces and jewelry. She was independent, wondered if love would come because she was. Another delightful book by the author.
This should have been good. The background story and setting was interesting. But somehow the book was a slog. Endless interuptions implausibly prevented someone declaring their romantic interest. That took up a large part of the book.
But the thing that really put me off was way the book seemed to preach that no matter how talented the woman was, she was better off giving up her business, and having endless babies.
What a fantastic story, she thinks she has scared away all suitors, by becoming independent, until one begins to show some interest, but will she have to give up her career? To find out you really must read this book by a really great Author
Mr.Gilder's Apprentice by Jean L. Kuhnke. This was a little different story. The romance was sweet but it went into more detail on the career choice of the heroine. A little long on the details of a jeweler than I thought was necessary but I enjoyed the characters.
