This was soooo HOT. Combustible.
And Snaps... I ADORE him.
BUT.
I hadn't read previous series by this author so I felt kind of lost. I had a hard time keeping up with all of the characters and previous events. And non-romantic aspect of the story was a bit boring.
I still liked it though, enough to buy and read book 2.

Duty is the first book in the Andino + Haven Series by Bethany-Kris. When it comes to Mafia Romance, Bethany-Kris has become my absolute RUN TO author. With passion, action, and smoking hot romance, Duty is a perfect forbidden romance where opposites are drawn together and their entire world is turned upside down. Andino Marcello is deeply entrenched in the mob and next in line to take the throne. While out walking his best friend, the cutest dog in the world, he runs into Haven Murphy. Haven is an independent business owner who lives her life to the fullest. When Andino and Haven come together sparks fly and neither one is able to step away. As tensions rise, Andino is forced to balance his loyalty to "the family" and his love for Haven. Sometimes we can't always have what we want. Or can we?
"He asked, she gave. He demanded, she did. That was them in a god-damn nutshell."Told in multiple POV, Duty is fast paced with non-stop action and a complex plot. Both main characters are deeply drawn to one another and the dynamics between the two is full of intensity and unforgettable moments. When the balance between doing what you want and what you know you are supposed to do continues to war between them, the stakes are high for these two to find their way. The supporting characters enhance the plot as they care deeply (or hold high disdain) for Haven and Andino.
"You can't share something that isn't yours."Overall, Duty is an absolute five star read that I could not put down. Bethany-Kris is an expert storyteller and once again, I am completely captivated by the smoking hot "alpha" Andino and his free-spirited Haven. Of course, the cliffy in this one is intense so I am now DYING for the next book! My hopes are high for Andino and Haven to take on the Mob world and find their happily ever after!

I feel as if there's nothing the Marcello men and their legacies can do to make me love them less. With each story that Bethany-Kris creates, I fall more in love with these men. I'm infatuated with their individual characteristics and how all of them are so honorable and loyal to one another. Nothing comes before family and it shows in every book I become absorbed with.
I was really looking forward to Andino's story. I was already very much in love with him through the glimpses I've received along the way. This book...
I had a tear!! A gosh darned freaking tear!! Andino's story wrung a tear from my soul. I wasn't even sad. I was overwhelmed with how absolutely incredible he was. Much of his mannerisms and character were to be expected, such as his charm, intelligence, honor code, loyalty and morality. But this man was about so much more. He grew up in a life of privilege and yet he was so humble. He lived under a heavy cloud of expectations and yet strived for a little piece of normal. I felt the walls pressing in on him and I wanted to reach through and lighten his load.
I realize that I should say something about Haven, but there's rarely a time that I don't like a heroine of this author's creation. This was one of those rare times. She really rubbed me the wrong way. She had some really high expectations when she said she had none. She seemed to understand that Andino had responsibilies and that his time wasn't for her alone, but she constantly gave him a guilt trip about it. I didn't hate her. I actually admired her. I'm just hoping that she eases up a bit in the story to come.
Okay, back to my new book boyfriend. He was on the cusp of inheriting a responsibility and it was making him miserable. But Andino was raised and learned the life at the feet of the great men of his family. Shirking his duty wasn't even a possibility. But could he pursue his happiness while appeasing his loved ones and accepting what is to come?
If you're anything like me, Vow (book 2) can't get into our hands soon enough. While I'm hoping these two finally get their lives together, I'm sure it won't be easy. BRING IT!!

THE STORY:
It is time for Andino Marcello to take his rightful place as boss of the family. Upholding his duty in running the family’s criminal empire has its perks but it comes at a sacrifice too, he cannot have a peaceful nor normal life of his choosing.
As Boss he is expected to get married and start a family asap, but the woman he is interested in not approved by the family.
Adino must choose between doing what the family wants and what his heart desires.
MY THOUGHTS:
Bethany's unrestrained writing has created a powerful and dynamic story. The foreboding and forbidden elements make this story rich in angst and turmoil and equally hot under the sheets.
Haven has a strong feisty personality that matches Andino's cockiness and charm, I like that she was not the A typical heroine, she was covered in tattoos and owned a bar and is not afraid to express what she wants from a man. Her over confidence at times though was a bit too much and she hit a nerve with me on more than one occasion in certain scenes.
Bethany’s descriptions of Andino is similar to that of a Greek god! Although a powerful and very influential man Haven balances him despite their many differences they make a good fit.
OMG THE ENDING?! How will I cope until book two??? I was literally in tears at the end of the book Like big ugly tears! Be warned the book ends abruptly!
This is an emotional rollercoaster of a story full of dark intensity and profound chemistry between the characters. I devoured Haven and Andino's story and recommend if you are into a Dark and gritty Mafia Romance.

5 “A Work in Progress” Stars
I love reading stories about families. Where prior characters are present when new stories are being told. Bethany Kris and her mafia families are always perfectly wonderful. They are passionate, erotic, suspenseful and full of the loyalty, duty and expectations of organized crime families.
Andino Marcello, son of Gio Marcello, and nephew to Lucien,The Underboss and Dante,The Boss of the Marcello Family. Life of Cosa Nostra is one of Honor and Duty. “Heavy is the Head who wears the crown.” And the next head to wear the crown is Andino. He follows the rules, is a great made man and he always thinks of family first. But becoming The Boss is on a whole other level. Expectations are even higher and Andino must fulfill those that are required to be The Boss. Whether he likes them or not. He must also figure out how to rule and still be his own man. Not like Antony or Dante but as Andino.
Haven Murphy is a woman who is just trying to stay afloat. She runs a business that she also has made successful but doesn’t really have a life outside that business. She is strong, feisty, full of tattoos and doesn’t back down. She’s not Italian and does not know of the business. All things that make her not and whom Andino should want or need.
When these two meet and the passion ignites, duty and expectations threaten to extinguish that fire though. When family comes first along with duty and honor when does Andino get to come first? Andino has much to deal with and thus Haven isn’t always a priority. Being the Boss in wait is heavy and full of burden. But when Andino is with Haven, she settles him and let’s him breathe. It feels right and good but.......Haven doesn’t fit the mold set before him. Can Andino do what is expected, follow the duty before him or will he realize that Haven is what his expectation and duty call for?
This book is book one in a duet. It ends in a cliffhanger that makes you only hunger for book two.

What a captivating and sensual story!I was hooked from the first pages in Antino and Haven's world.These two were one of the best couples I have read about!
I loved every minute these two spend together.They have some super hot,passionate,intense and sensual moments.They feel the connection from the first moment they meet.Haven is a strong,sexy and sassy heroine.She knows what she wants.Andino is dark,mysterious and hot.
Duty is fast paced,addictive,super hot and sensual!

No tenia demasiada curiosidad por Haven y Andino como pareja hasta que lei la trilogia " John & Siena ", no obstante, despues de esas novelas, deje de lado otros libros que planeaba leer antes para poder adentrarme en la vida de Andino y Haven.
Duty no fue en lo absoluto lo que imagine, ni en un millon de años hubiese esperado que esta pareja fuera a ser tan especial como lo fue, y no me refiero solo a que su historia de amor tenga los ingredientes ideales para hechizarme, sino que tambien ellos como personajes independientes me sorprendieron para bien.
En Duty no hay tanta accion como nos tiene acostumbrada la autora, y es cierto que algunos giros no sorprenden del todo al estar Duty narrada en el mismo tiempo que Lotalty, por lo que se puede decir que lo primordial de esta novela es la relacion de la pareja protagonista, echo que no puedo negar que me gusto mucho.
Haven me encanto, es un perspnaje que no espere, realmente me hice una idea equivocada de ella en Loyalty y Disgrace, sin embargo, ella como protagonista es de las mas destacables de Bethany Kris, ademas me gusto que no fuese la tipica chica italiana dentro de la Cosa Nostra.
Con Andino no tuve la misma impresion, hasta cierto punto entiendo sus decisiones, y personalmente creo que es un buen personaje, resulta real, pero en algunos momentos quise golpearlo por ser tan ciego y no ver donde se iba adentrando poco a poco.
Para terminar, Duty fue un principio de trilogia muy bueno, lo lei en lo que parecio un suspiro y me quede con ganas de mas de Andino y Haven, por lo que no tardare mucho en terminar Vow, ya voy por mas de la mitad.

Once again Bethany-Kris has done it again. She NEVER disappoints ...
Duty is a fast paced book with all the right balance of sensuality, addictive words and heart skipping moments.
Bethany-Kris's ability to constantly write organised crime romance books that always feel new and exciting, is a treat! Hear me out, considering the fact that the author has written quite a lot of books related to this 'genre', It always amazes me how different each book is and how each new characters bring such individual presence into a readers life. That's a work of art in itself... the ability to not be repetitive.
Duty has introduced me to a new book Boyfriend. Andino is a dream. Truly a dream. He is the perfect blend of suave masculine alpha male hotness and a humble human being. And it's these characteristics that make him so bloody attractive.
Haven took a bit out of me... I was torn between really not liking her (hey! We love some, we don't like some) to actually being ok with her.
This book was EPIC! I can't wait for book 2!

Having been introduced and acquainted with Haven and Andino in previous books by this author, to say I have been greatly anticipating their own detailed, love story would be an understatement, my fellow mafia romance book loving friends.
Andino is like the greek god Atlas. He seems to always have the weight of the world sitting on his shoulders. Well, except for when he is with Haven, who mentally and physically gives him refuge from the chosen to be the next boss, mafioso made walls closing in on him. Sure, he embraces his mobster heritage, its life, and the duties that come with it, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t long for a life and some peace of his own.
This book bares witness to those responsibilities, expectations, family related issues, and Haven’s heartbreak as she feels like the unwelcome guest who shows up at a party uninvited. Andino is torn between his feelings for Haven and the scripted in stone, unbreakable mafioso rules everyone knows he must adhere to.
If you haven’t read the John + Siena two book series, well, I suggest you get right on that. This book unfolds during the same time frame as those books. Bethany-Kris did an epic job with John’s bipolar disorder, which gets some book time here, as well. You’ll have a much better feel for the emotions and family drama at stake, among not just Andino and Haven but several sub-characters. It will give you a special behind the scenes backdrop of events that are referenced here. In fact, there are tons of cameos of the whole Marcellos clan, folks. But be warned. I personally had some issues with Andino’s at times callous, manipulative ways in the previous series.
With it’s cliffhanger ending, I’m counting the mafioso minutes until I get my hands on the next sequel. Here’s to hoping its sooner rather than later. I know I should savor the anticipation of finding out what happens next, but it’s pure torture not to know what’s in store for these destined to be together lovebirds.

I have read all of the series of books that lead up to this one. 'Filthy Marcellos','The Chicago War,' 'Donati Bloodlines' and of course the 'Legacy' series. I will admit out of the Legacy. I enjoyed this the most. In the other ones, Andino comes across as a bit of an asshole. When you read about him in this one, you start to understand his character. And Haven...gotta love that girl. She is a bad ass within her own right. There are many parts in this book that coincide with parts in other books. I can't wait to find out what Ms. Kris had in store for us in the next book!

Gah!! Duty was absolutely phenomenal! I swear the more I read Bethany Kris, I seriously think that she can't outdo her previous masterpiece... and then BOOM! - Spoiler Alert: she does. Holy crap Duty was amazing!! It was sexy, intense, gritty and so addicting!! I was hooked from the very first page! Andino and Haven were everything and perfect for one another.
Without giving away any spoilers, if you've read this series and previous generations you know who Andino Marcello is. Well now it's time for him to take his place as the boss and when duty calls, in his family, you better answer it. But when he meets a free-spirited woman so different from him on paper, the chemistry and attraction between them is palpable. But with the impending crown weighing so heavy on Andino's head, he is feeling the pressure to choose between doing what the family wants and what his heart needs.
OMG THAT ENDING?! My heart seriously cannot wait until book two. God, this story was emotional, tumultuous and so damn fantastic. I was choked up one minute rooting for this couple and then was hardly breathing the next. I absolutely loved Haven and Andino's story so much. It was great being back in the Marcello fold but it was even better being in Andino's head. And Haven? GAH! I loved her so much. She was sassy and spirited and took ownership of her life. Andino ‘Andi’ Marcello is a beautifully dark character.
The best kind of contradiction.
He gives a damn, and yet he gives zero fucks.

Andino is selfless, incredibly loyal, level-headed, and insightful, not to mention ridiculously hot in a three-piece suit. He lives and breathes for Cosa Nostra—for the family, for his best friend and cousin John. And Snaps of course.
Andino was chosen to follow in Dante’s footsteps. The Boss legacy was never something Andino wanted, but a position he certainly earned.
Andino is hit with reality. No matter how much blood, sweat and fucking energy you give to Cosa Nostra, they expect you to be better, hell they demand it—your wants and needs are completely irrelevant. The family before everything else. And quite frankly, he's sick of it.
Andino feels weighed down by the responsibilities, years of tradition, and a fate that he will not refuse. When you are a Marcello, you do what is expected of you and shit, you do it well.
But Andino will not accept quietly.
He is determined to do shit his way.
For once Andino will make himself a priority.
And being selfish is a damn good way to start.
Andino finds Haven on a park trail.

You already know I am a huge supporter of Bethany-Kris. Every single mafia romance book she writes is absolutely magnificent in my eyes. Yeah, it may seem repetitive to you but I am going to keep saying it to the world. Bethany-Kris fills my heart with so much abundance and joy. There is magic in her writing. There is soul in the pages. There is fire burning in her characters. You just become addicted to her amazing story that weave so much heart. Duty by Bethany-Kris is fantastically written kindling to a perfect fire. A deep and wavering storm with earth shattering force. A magnetic read that will drown you deeply in the world of crime and love. Duty like all of Bethany-Kris books really leave me so excited and satisfied.
Duty is the first book in the Andino + Haven duet and man, I needed a drink after reading it. The palpable thriller emanating in Duty absolutely made my head spin and my heart pound so hard. I don't wanna write too much at this time and give away anything, but let me just start by saying I was in tears at the end of this book. TEARS. Like hand over mouth crying.
From the moment Have and Andino met, I was rooting for them, even if it seemed like everything and everyone was trying to keep them apart.
Haven was just what Andino needed, an escape from the chaos that was his life. A little peace when his life was being upended. I liked her feisty attitude, her not caring what other people thought about her, her love for Andino.
I loved seeing another side to Andino, to see the turmoil going on in his mind, to watch him take on so much responsibility. And then he met Haven and let her into his world, into his heart, and decide to make her fit simply because she was his.
But their love and romance was full of ups and downs. It was an emotional rollercoaster and I loved the ride. Every second of it.
The end absolutely gutted me in the best way and I cannot wait for the next book in their story.

It’s hard being a made-man but it’s extra hard to be a Marcelo made man. All the pressure, responsibility, expectations can drive any man crazy but not Andino. He is a special kind of tough.
While reading other books I thought oh him as ruthless and severe but I was so glad to see his other side. He and Heaven - I was swooning. They are perfect for each other and I’m sure Heaven is not so soft as it seems.
I root for them and I believe they will manage to break all the walls others build for them.
Once again I became a part of Bethany’s world and I loved it. Her books always make me feel this way!

I just knew this was going to be good. Since reading John's and Catherine's books but I kept putting it off. Andino is freaking hot and intense. He is just trying to balance everything in his life out. Haven is such a strong character, she just wanted to protect herself from the inevitable. That cliffhanger hurt bc you just want them to be together

La relación entre Andino Marcello y Haven Murphy estaba destinada al fracaso desde el segundo en que se conocieron.
Andino, como futuro Jefe de la Cosa Nostra Marcello tiene cada uno de sus pasos vigilados, pues como próximo jefe debe dar una buena imagen e inspirar respeto a los hombres que pronto le seguirán.
Andi, como le llama su familia, es reservado y controlado, tenía su vida en orden hasta que su tío Dante (y jefe) le dice que él pronto ocupará su asiento y pone su vida patas para arriba.
Ahora, el próximo jefe de los Marcello deberá encontrar un equilibrio entre mantener feliz a su tío y a la familia, y permanecer cerca de la rubia tatuada que no hace más que llamar su atención cada vez más.
Haven, por otro lado, es una neoyorquina que nació y se crió en Brooklyn. Ella es todo lo opuesto a lo que se supone que debería ser una esposa de un jefe de la mafia: italiana, católica y asociada a la mafia. No, Haven, con mechas de colores en su cabello y la mitad de su cuerpo tatuado, es dueña de un club de strippers que maneja desde hace dos años y en ocasiones suele bailar en el tubo.
Primero voy a decir que tenía muchas ganas de conocer más de Andino y saber todo sobre la mujer misteriosa que le acompañaba. Y tengo que decir que ambos me gustaron muchísimo.
La pareja tiene mucha química, aunque siento que la autora pasó algunas escenas por encima. Me hubiese gustado más leer sobre ellos dos que leer el punto de vista de Andino de los acontecimientos que sucedieron en Revere y Loyalty (pues, como sabrán, este libro sucede a la par de esos dos).
Haven es un personaje con carácter fuerte, terca, determinada y con una lengua filosa, pero que a la primera señal de que algo va mal tiende a huir. Obviamente, hace esto para protegerse a sí misma, normal, después de todo es con Andino con quien está saliendo. Andi, que es reservado y misterioso, que esquiva las preguntas que ella le hace o responde de manera vaga, y todo porque quería mantenerla ajena a esa parte de su vida llena de actividades ilegales, dinero sucio y crímenes.
Amé esa escena de la ballena, admito que estaba esperando que Andino le contara a Haven su obsesión por las ballenas después de haber leído la escena de un mini Andino de 5 años pidiendo una ballena para navidad. Y Andino tomando como una señal el hecho de que Haven se tatuara una ballena después de tener un sueño con ellas, obviamente él estaba buscando cualquier señal para mandar a todos a la mierda y quedarse con la chica.
¿Y ese final? Era muy obvio que iba a terminar así, aunque me hubiese gustado, que por una vez, Andino hubiese sido 100% honesto con Haven, es lo mínimo que ella se merecía, después de todo, era su corazón el que él estaba rompiendo.

At the risk of sounding redundant, Andino is MAGNIFICENT! I’ve made a pack with myself that I will stop claiming BK’s current hero is my favorite dude. They are all perfect! HOWEVER! Andino is beyond perfect....

En este libro conocemos la historia de Andino Marcello, el próximo Jefe de la Cosa Nostra Marcello, y Haven Murphy, una mujer independiente que dirige su propio negocio.
"El mundo de Andino Marcello se pone patas arriba cuando se convierte en el próximo heredero del imperio Marcello. Se sentía cómodo en su lugar como Capo, pero la comodidad es para los débiles en el mundo de los mafiosos. El asiento del jefe está esperando."
Andino es un hombre reservado y controlado, maneja un equipo, cuida de su primo como lo ha estado haciendo toda su vida y saca a pasear a su perro. Hasta que su vida da un giro cuando se le notifica que será el próximo Jefe de la familia Marcello, por lo que ahora debe aprender a equilibrar su vida y cumplir con las expectativas. Sin embargo, conoce a una mujer que está fuera de sus límites.
"Haven Murphy está haciendo lo suyo y lo hace bien. Dueña de un exitoso club de striptease en Brooklyn, su único objetivo es nunca fallar.

Ambos se conocen en un parque, en el cual Andino estaba paseando a su perro Snaps y Haven estaba corriendo. Allí comparten un casual y ligera conversación, hasta que él se distrae con una llamada y ella se va.
La cuestión con esta pareja es que su relación estaba destinada a fracasar. Era imposible que Andino pudiese mantener una relación con Haven sin prejuicios. Además estaba el hecho de que ella no conocía el lado ilegal de Andino, por lo tanto no entendía mucho al hombre y este tendía a desaparecer por días porque estaba ocupado en el negocio. Esto llevó a que Haven se sintiera usada, sintiera que Andino la buscaba para follar y nada más. Y ni hablar de que él mantenia su relación con ella en secreto, ocultándola de su familia porque no aprobaban su relación.
"La verdad siempre sale a la luz eventualmente. Eso era lo que pasaba con los secretos y las mentiras. No importaba cuán fuerte fuera la red de mentiras que se tejía, solo hacía falta un hilo para desenredar el resto."
Deteste por completo a ciertas personas aquí y vi mucha hipocresía. Entiendo que Andino estando en el futuro en la posición más alta debia dar un ejemplo a sus hombres al casarse con una mujer italiana, católica y vinculada a la mafia, pero estos hombres que le decían que no constantemente a Andino se olvidaron que Lucian se casó con una mujer forastera que estaba relacionada con un club de motociclistas y que él esta en uno de los tres asientos más altos como Subjefe.
"—Desde que dejaste mi oficina el día que te dijimos lo que pasaría, ya no puedes tomar tus propias decisiones, Andino. No cuando cada elección que hagas no te afectará solo a ti."
Había química entre la pareja, pero en algún momento comenzó a ser medio lo mismo donde ella le reclamaba a él y él se disculpaba para volver a hacer un par de semanas más tardes.
Un libro aburrido en comparación con los otros de la 2da generación, con escenas que pasaban a la siguiente de manera abrupta, y lento.

So the story is based on mafia background, Andino, a mid-age alpha man who is the son of a mafia leader. Haven owns a strip club but she rarely needs to strip, only that special night with the special stage under a difficult circumstance Haven have no choice but to go on stage that particular night. It's pretty obvious that Andino fell in love with Haven the moment she saw her on the stage that only night. Andino and Haven are seriously a perfect match from heaven, Haven is strong and confident, sexy greek goddess I would picture; Andino is alpha and kind, he is also a sex god from what I read, an alpha male who every woman will fell on their knees to get a taste from him.
I really enjoyed the story a lot, the whole concept of Haven and Andino together is warming. I've been riding an emotional roller coaster with the book, laugh, tears you name it, it's all in. The author uses her word wisely, the whole story is just perfect and right in the spot. My heart skipped a hell lot of beats during the ending. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. 4.7 stars with the book, with the steamy sex and all the emotions I got while reading. The only thing I don't get is the cover, not so "Andino and Haven" style.

This book is a duet so you will need to read both books.
I was interested to read this book as Andino and Haven's story happened in the background of events in John and Siena and Cross and Catherine's books.
In fact i thought it could be quite a challenge to get right, making sure all the ducks are in a row.
Andino finds himself being pushed forward for the role of "boss" and he is a rule follower except he wants Haven, who does not fit the profile of a boss's wife, at all.
Haven is an independent, successful woman, who is ignorant of the "Marcello" empire and who Andino is when they meet and even when they get involved.
There is a lots of great scenes with Andino's dog, Snaps, which is a lovely touch.
We see the events from a different perspective concerning John and Catherine.
No cheating.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
No ex drama.
Ends ready to read next book.
