This was a great book! It was very kid friendly, yet still talked about the difficulties Jackie Robinson faced. The pictures were pretty cool and the story had a good amount of detail. This would be a great book when introducing the topic of segregation and how it impacted sports.

Jackie Robinson: A Life of Determination By Colleen Sexton
I read this book via Bookflix (available through Mid-Continent.) This is the first time I tried out Bookflix and I really liked it. It looks like a great resource for teachers because it pairs a non-fiction title with a fiction title and offers lesson plans. You watch a video that tells the story of the fiction book and the non-fiction books is read online either alone or along with help. There is also information about the author and games to play.
This book was a very good, easy read about Jackie Robinson and the the discrimination he overcame while playing baseball. It’s written in a way young students can understand and the pictures are good. It’s paired with the fiction title Amazing Grace. I think kids interested in baseball would really enjoy the book and getting to read it online may make it more appealing to reluctant readers. Recommended Grades K-3.
