Big and bad enough to be any girl’s nightmare—or her best dream ever…

Beyond your grasp. Those are the three words that come to mind, every time Ella sees Wolf at Club Atlantis. He earns the term Master, in and out of scene, yet there is something deeper and darker about him. She wants to dive into that abyss.

Wolf sees the yearning. But the submissive he ultimately claims will become his servant, soul-bound to him for all eternity. Ella is a natural submissive, with an endless desire to please. She’s perfect for the role, really. Except Ella is a gift he doesn’t deserve.

However, vampires are wired one way—to take what they want, no matter what their conscience tells them. Even Wolf isn’t strong enough to resist his nature…or the salvation Ella’s love offers.

3.5? 4?

I'm torn.

Truth be told, I ended up here after trying Vampire's Soul which was... weird. Unfortunately. Though I may try it again at some point. I digress. Anyhoo, I saw the magic words "Club Atlantis" and thought, "I bet Gideon, Daegan and Anwyn will show up in that one" and guess what?

It's no secret that DAG (Daegan, Gideon and Anwyn) are my fave JWH characters so this was a YUGE plus for me. Gideon is as surly and difficult as ever and both Daegan and Anwyn continue to love him to pieces despite, or is it because of, this very characteristic? It continues to warm the cockles of my heart.

So if you haven't picked up on it DAG play a large role in this story and definitely contributed to the page count which was what I was hoping for.

But...

C'mon, you knew this was coming.

It almost felt like two stories since DAG all had points of view along with Ella and Wolf. To be clear, I'm not opposed to this since I'm a gigantor DAG fan but if you're interested in reading this and looking for a straightforward boy meets girl, ANGST HAPPENS, boy is troubled, girl is troubled, MOAR ANGST HAPPENS, some martyring happens alongside the ANGST before they decide to move into kinky coupletry in true JWH fashion, then you might have some trouble with this one.

I would call Vampire Master an ensemble cast romance. Ella and Wolf are in the center to be sure but there is a lot happening in this book outside of the budding romance. I was pulling for Ella since she and Gideon have always been close in a big brother/little sister way; she's mischievous to his general stubbornness and they are just cute. Wolf is new to me but I do like the big uns and he fits the bill. He's an intriguing blend of ruthless master and gentle giant.

I'm usually not the biggest fan of daddy kink but these two have just the right amount of it for me plus there was enough pain play to make me happy. #TeamPain

JWH is notorious for writing long books and Vampire Master clocks in at almost 700 pages with over 9K locations. It mostly held my attention with a mix of kink, sex, adventure, new characters and vampire shenanigans but it did meander at times. An editor would've certainly caught the continuity errors and tightened up the story. But I can't say the characters weren't well developed.

Regardless of my quibbles, I'm a fan of JWH's writing and am keeping all the things crossed that Club Atlantis starts to make a bigger appearance in this series. Because DAG.

This series is still going strong. Sixteen books in, the erotic tension is still as sexy as the first. For those who have never read this series, this can be read as a standalone. Fair warning, if this is your first book in the series, the desire to go back and buy every book starting from the first will be high.

In this latest Vampire story, we encounter Wolf. Wolf is a relatively younger vampire, less than 100 years. He's also a dominant. Seriously, a sexual dominant vampire is redundant. All vampires are dominant. Yes, yes, there are exceptions to the rule, but still, Wolf is an uber dominant who brings out the desires from every submissive that crosses his path. He is a mysterious dominant in a BDSM club that humans don't all know it is vampire own. He easily tops both women and men. For me, if feels like Wolf is just trying to get through his life. He is stuck in a rut and just going through the motions. The reason for it are heartbreaking as we learn about how he came to become a vampire and what happened to his family. In some ways, it feels as if Wolf has locked himself in a type of purgatory that he does constant penance for. His penance is to help other soldiers returning from war with PTSD.

When Ella enters into his life, it sparks a change. A change he isn't exactly welcoming yet it starts many gears to start moving and the reader needs to hang on for the ride. This sensual dance between Ella and Wolf is filled with yearning and deferred gratification - my favourite kind. The kinky scenes are hot and a submissive's fantasy.

What I enjoyed was learning about Ella and her kinks. Her ability to be what each dominant wants and her wide range of kinks is illuminating and attractive. Ms. Hill does an amazing job of tantalizing readers with various forms of kink. Showcasing how Ella enjoys it as well as how the dominants respond and view Ella, the submissive. Ella seems almost too perfect. She is like Wolf in some ways because she too has a heartbreaking past. What is interesting is how Ella deals with it. She rises above it in a way that is so hard to do. She forgives herself and moves on.

This story is more than just a mating dance between a dominant and a submissive. Vampire politics kicks in and this is when the story takes a darker turn. Vampires are predators when they are on the hunt, it is exciting to witness. Vampires from previous books make guest appearances to help with the hunt. When humans get caught in the cross fire, bad things can happen. Ella makes a couple of critical mistakes and this forces Wolf to take some actions he would rather not have to do. The punishments are harsh yet written so erotically appealing.

The pace of this book moves at a clip and there is so much to it. Half way through the book so many things have happened. And yet that is when the plot twist occurs and the hunting begins. From that point on, the pace increases and ends in a delicious showdown. There are a few threads left hanging which hooks a reader in and eagerly anticipate the next book in the series.

What I loved most about this book is the erotic power exchange between Ella and Wolf. It is a give and take that seems so smooth. Their character development is nicely layered to give them dimension and depth. I fell in love with both characters, not just because they are amazing, but because they are what made the story magical. Ms. Hill does another excellent job at bringing an erotic fantasy to life. This book is highly recommended to vampire lovers who enjoy the darker sides to kink.

Vampire Master is the 16th(!!!!) novel in the Vampire Queen series by Joey W. Hill. I can not believe how far the series has gone! I read The Vampire Queen's Servant 7 years ago and it was published in 2007, so I kinda left nostalgic. Visiting some of the old characters made me a little nostalgic.

I am a big fan of the series and it pains me to say this, but I found the book a little slow for my taste and I thought that it was dragging at some points. I am not used to books with more than 400 pages anymore (and I have university to hate for that) and maybe that's the reason why. I wouldn't call the writing or the pace bad, but there was a surprisingly small amount of character development for a book this size. There is some, but I felt like it could have been more. Maybe, I touched the book superficially and I should have paid more attention to it, but I kept reading it in every single opportunity I had. On the bus, the break from my work, while waiting in line and in many more places, because there were also some parts that were very good and interesting. It's been a while since I read a novel that's so focused on BDSM and my overall impression is that most of the story happens on the club's grounds.

Still, the book has everything I have come to expect from the series and I am saying that in a positive way. Fans of the supernatural and/or BDSM genre will enjoy the book and despite what one might think from my 3-star rating, I would recommend it to them. It might be a little extreme for a newbie in the genres, but I wouldn't want to prevent those people from also giving this book/series a chance.

Spoiler/trigger warning below.

One thing that I really didn't like was Ella's rape. It's not detailed, but it happened and I thought it was unnecessary. I read Vampire Mistress before this book since the triad from that book appears a lot (Gideon even has a part in the narrative) and if you have read it you know what happened to Anwyn's character, so having Ella go through something like what she did, immediately after reading about the abuse another heroine was recipient felt too much to me. Ella's life, in general, was not a good one and she is a tortured heroine.

The one big drawback with ordering Kindle books to read on my iPhone is that if I don’t read them within a couple of days of ordering, I forget I have them and they disappear from the screen...which is why it’s taken me so long to get to Vampire Master, from the Vampire Queen Series, Club Atlantis. I usually don’t wait this long—Joey W. Hill has been a favorite author of mine since I read an early book of hers called Guardian of the Continuum back in 2003. It was—and still is—an amazing tale, and when Joey released the first Vampire Queen book in 2007, The Vampire Queen’s Servant, I found my new most favorite author. She has remained a favorite for all these years, and, as with all her Vampire Queen books, I could not put Vampire Master down. Plus, when I read the teaser at the end of the story, introducing the very first book in the series, The Vampire Queen’s Servant, I had to read that one again, which means I’m now reading The Mark of the Vampire Queen, which is the next one. All this is an explanation as to why it’s taken me a while to get this review up for a truly wonderful book, but I’m taking a break. I just don’t have time right now to reread the entire series, though that’s obviously where I’m headed.

(Disclaimer: I’m sitting here in my office with five new, unread hardbacks by favorite authors that have recently arrived in the mail. Haven’t even looked at them since starting back into the Vampire Queen stories) This book was so good, and as always, Hill’s characters are so fully formed and well-rounded that you feel as if you know them intimately by the time the story ends. Ella is a beautiful young submissive on the staff at Club Atlantis, a high end BDSM club where Ella is a popular part of the regular human crew. She is unaware that Mistress Anwyn, the club’s owner, is a vampire. Nor does she realize that the man she’s been lusting after, Wolf, is a vampire as well. Wolf and Ella have their own unique sets of baggage, and watching the way Hill brings them together in spite of the danger and untold risks associated with the vampire world is truly a study in the art of writing a sensitive romance within a potentially devastating plot.

If you like beautifully written books with characters you can’t help but love, and if a touch of paranormal makes your heart beat a bit faster, I can assure you that you will love this book. Joey W. Hill’s writing is truly an art form. Five stars aren’t nearly enough.

This book made me so happy. Elle has been a favorite secondary character in this series for quite some time and now we get to know her and her story and maybe just maybe the little pixie can tame the big bad Wolf. Wolf is a fairly new character but he was intriguing as he is the silent type. I was fascinated by the idea of him doing BDSM therapy and was really glad when he explained the Daddy/little kink so it wasn’t as creepy as I thought it would be. Once again Joey W. Hill has done a masterful job of entertaining and informing us about BDSM. I love this series and was thrilled to see some favorite characters from previous books but you can read this standalone.

Vampire Master: Vampire Queen Series: Club Atlantis by Joey W. Hill

#Review
#DarkRomance
#OutDec15th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

‘He was so contained on the public floor, yet there was an energy behind his gaze that hinted of a storm of limitless magnitude. The kind that came with thunder and lightning, which split the heavens, and brought torrential rains. Rains that could put out fires that roared through the heart, leaving loss and never-ending pain in their wake.’

This was my first ever read of a Joey W. Hill novel. It was also my first foray into a BDSM vampire story, so I’ll be the first to admit that I pre-judged this book, thinking it was going to be your typical supernatural love story, with chapters upon chapters of acrobatic and superficial sex scenes, simply with an added bit of kink threw in for good measure. And while those kinds of books are fun to immerse yourself in from time to time, Vampire Master certainly does not fit that description in the least. I could not have been more wrong about this book.

Vampire Master is an incredibly provocative, well-crafted, sinful, and exhilarating kaleidoscope of complex emotions, fascinating and multifaceted characters, and a thrilling and sensual storyline that delivers on every single page. I was hooked from chapter one.

Author Joey W Hill goes into explicit detail in her DOM/sub scenes, and I don’t just mean all the fun naughty words, I’m talking about cause and effect, action and reaction, pain and pleasure, punishment and reward. How certain tools and toys are used. Why they’re used. How the characters feel as they’re utilising those implements or having them used upon them.

Through her enthralling hero and heroine, Joey W. Hill demonstrates time and again the level of trust that is actually required for these kinds of relationships and all the various different emotions that can come from it. I was spellbound by everything.

This story is written in such a way that you feel like you’re actually there, traipsing the floors of the club, watching the DOM/sub scenes unfold live in the flesh, that your body is moving in sync to the beat of the music, you can feel the sweat, the excitement, the disappointments, the pain and the frustrations and ultimately the pleasure and rapture that flows freely too.

I was one hundred percent captivated by the whole story because it is so wonderfully written, almost lyrical and hypnotic. For me it was an awakening. An exceptionally compelling romance, with layers of suspense, supernatural mystery and darkness, giving it depth alongside some supremely titillating sex scenes. Although our hero, Wolf, is delightfully sinful; A tall, dark and muscular vampire, with a kinky side, it is undoubtedly our heroine, Ella that stole the show for me. She was just so immensely beguiling. For all that she has experienced in her young life, she is still so innocent and loving. Although a submissive by nature, that in no way makes her weak. If anything she demonstrates just how strong-willed and fierce a submissive needs to be on the inside. I just adored her character. She was able to elicit sympathy as well as evoke tenderness and pride, something that Wolf begins to notice more and more as he loses his heart to her. And if ever there were two characters that deserve a happy-ever-after, it’s Wolf and Ella.

If you’re looking for an exceptionally well written paranormal love story with a difference, something that’s a little darker, more thought-provoking than your usual fare, then definitely read this book.

‘He put his arm around her, holding her close, and looked down at her. She made him hurt. She fucking made him hurt in a way he didn’t know how to handle. And he was smiling like an idiot again.’

A sensual masterpiece that brings you back into the heart of Club Atlantis. Vampire Master has a little splash of something for every reader; the D/s club atmosphere, returning character fan favorites (or maybe they are just mine), high stakes romance, a bad guy to flush out, and two people who fall in love against all odds.

There was so much to love about this new addition to Joey Hill's Vampire Queen series and finding the best place to begin is both easy and difficult. This book is massive, 662 pages! So while I would say this could be read as a standalone because Joey did a phenomenal job describing past events, I do think the two books that would enhance this particular book are, Vampire Mistress and Vampire Trinity (Together they reach just over 790 pages, so for one book you know you are getting a gorgeous story). Both of those go together, read like a duet, and contain the story of vampire hunter Gideon Green, vampire master Daegan Rei along with the Club Atlantis owner Anwyn. These three characters all play integral parts in Vampire Master, especially Gideon. His story, in particular drives the duet and in turn he is a good friend and confidant to Ella in this book.

Ella works at Club Atlantis, but that is just one of her many jobs. She keeps herself busy as a waitress, a courier, a masseuse, just to name a few. Ella sleeps very little because she hates having down time, but also at her core she is extremely gracious and very subservient. She will make a Dom very happy someday.  She knows deep down whom she'd like that Dom to be, but she also knows it will probably never happen. Wolf has never made an advance to her, so she knows it would be a long shot.

Wolf works at Club Atlantis as a Master Dom. He not only teaches public scenes, he also helps with PTSD members in private. Wolf is an alpha extraordinaire. He's never gotten close to Ella, other than having her help in a public scene, because he knows she's a tempting treat he would not be able to give her up. Ella is more than ordinary, she is extraordinary. Her sub nature calls to his alpha nature is a big way, which is exactly why he stays away. He's already lost everything once, he couldn't live with himself to lose everything twice and yet his very nature only allows him to live with his mistakes.

As a vampire, Wolf's very need is to live. As the top of the food chain his bloodlust makes sure that he craves dominating humans so that he never goes hungry. A subservient human is like throwing crack at a vampire. You only want more until you've taken all you can, luckily for Wolf, he's had a lot of years to work up his tolerance and a lot of self loathing helps. Ella makes it really hard to stay away, especially given her propensity to head into danger. She's like a magnet for dangerous situations and it isn't long before leaving her side is almost impossible, his self loathing be damned.

Ella has only ever wanted love. Growing up in a foster home she doesn't know what real love is, but even when Wolf offers up a temporary arrangement, she is willing to take it. Nothing in her life has ever been permanent and she knows things are fleeting, she'd rather have a little bit of good than a lot of nothing. Her open naivety is refreshing. She never pushes Wolf or manipulates him into something he isn't ready for. Instead she seeks out answers to questions and is inquisitive about the vampire world (hence my deep affection for Gideon continues as he tries to protect and mentor her in his best Gideon way possible). She's willing to walk away when Wolf is ready to go, but will he really be ready to let her go?

This entire book was a great addition to the Club Atlantis world along with being highly insightful to the vampire world Joey Hill has created. If you love this genre, and more importantly Joey's books, then I believe you will love this book!

5 Star Review Vampire Master (Vampire Queen #16) by Joey W Hill

This is one of my all time favourite series and I was excited to be given a chance to read an ARC of this book.

Nobody writes characters that need so much work like Joey W Hill. Welcome to Club Atlantis where dreams can and do come true. Wolf is a Master Dom in every way, working at Club Atlantis, he is also a vampire and that is where complications arise.

Elle also works at the club, is naturally submissive and is attracted to Wolf, but he knows that the submissive he claims will become his servant and be bound to him for eternity, as is the vampire way.

Despite all the reasons to stay away from Elle, Wolf is tempted beyond reason. I loved the friendship between Elle and Gideon, he was not only her friend, but he help her understand the vampire way. This story has so many layers, it was like peeling an onion and watching has each layer was revealed.

It was also great to see some of my favourite people from the series make an appearance. Although a stand alone, you may get more enjoyment if you have read the previous books.
I loved this book; Vampire Master was at times a hard and distressing story to read, and although predominately about a BDSM and D/s relationship, to me it was a love story, one of courage, and sheer determination to come from a world of darkness into the light.

The scenes are hot, yet emotional, drawing the reader in so much that you almost feel that you are witnessing it first hand. The road they travel to get to their HEA is long, winding and bumpy, but they do eventually get there.

This book, as expected, was well written and held me captive from the first page to the last. A wonderful addition to one of the best series I have read and I look forward to reading more in this series. 5 Stars all the way.

Wolf and Ella's was a gripping story firmly set in the violent, unapologetically cruel world of the vampire. Its old-school VQ series, but introduces a newness of scope and I am fairly giddy to see where Ms. Hill's very fertile imagination and her slightly sadistic Muse will take it.

But in the here-and-Vampire Master, we are treated to the characteristic strong-willed submissive whose willing gift is not to be refused by the hard-a$$ed (if occasionally misguided) Dom-pire. Its impossible not to become immersed in this very tangible world, and the push-pull of the reality of loving a vampire while dealing with their unforgiving nature. Its a steep learning curve for Ella, however in many ways, she deals with it more easily than Wolf. Theirs is a deep relationship story with the imposing extremes only a paranormal setting can add, complemented by arguably *the* strongest characters in VQ series.

I find myself falling in love with this world all over again.

Five start all the way!!

I want to say first what a amazing book this is. Just wow! Each book in this series is Unique. I just couldn't stop reading. The Vampire world Joey Hill has created is beyond your imagination. Wolf is first introduced to us in Vampire Soul. And Ella is a submissive that work at Club Atlantis. When they meet their worlds collide. Will Wolf be able to resist his attraction to Ella?

This story kept me on edge, as I was rooting for Ella first, and then for them both. I liked the glimpses I got into the other characters and that made me curious enough to want to read the entire series. The storyline is captivating, and the BDSM-club themes Ella comes up with are really great. Absolutely a 5-star read.

First off this book can be read as a stand alone but I think some of the characters and background from 'Vampire Mistress' and 'Vampire Trinity' will add even more depth to this book.

Wolf is a made vampire less than a hundred years old but respected in the vampire community. He's a lone wolf, who still suffers trauma from his time in Vietnam and the loss of his family. He has no intension of taking a servant, but Ella calls to him like no other.

Ella is almost the perfect submissive, but her giving and submissive nature often lands her in trouble. She's wanted Wolf since she first laid eyes on him but knows he's not for her.
Wolf keeps being drawn to Ella and she gives him everything he asks while trying to keep it real but these guys burn up the pages with their heat.

It can be frustrating at times watching Wolf give Ella conflicting messages but you can see it's because he's so conflicted himself. I could feel their pain and their passion, and it gave me shivers at times.

When danger comes to Atlantis almost killing them, Wolf end's up giving her the second mark, tying them even closer even as he still tries to keep his distance. But Ella is his perfect match and they find their way even as a dangerous turn of events could end them before they get started.

There's a lot going on in this book, not only Wolf and Ella's story but groundwork for future books and dangerous and new threats to the vampire community. Hill has this amazing ability to bring you into her world and make you feel part of it, I can't wait to see where the next story is going to go.

Content Warning
There are also heavy BDSM scenes, sexual assault and other scenes that may be difficult for sensitive readers.

I voluntarily received this book for an honest review.

We're back at Club Atlantis.
Home of Mistress Anwyn, Lord Deagan, and their servant Gideon.
Two of their best assets at the club are Wolf, Vampire and Master Dom, and Ella, house submissive Extraordinaire. As much as they both try to deny themselves the truth about their mutual attraction they inexorably gravitate to each other.
Their first personal encounter is a mesmerizing example of the buildup of a D/s scene.
Ella is relentless in her submissive dedication to Wolf and they are humming sensuously toward a full-blooded (pun intended) D/s relationship within strictly defined boundaries.
Until all hell breaks loose...
As all Ms Hill's books this is another all encompassing sensual delight, peppered with treachery, vampire politics, and heart stopping scenes.
The perfect mixture of love, brutality and poetry.

If you love really dark, vampire romances with tons of steamy scenes that will bite you, make sure you try this series!

But don't worry, you don't have to read the first 15 books before starting this one, because they're all standalones! AND, if you have read some of her previous novels, you may find some of the characters returned!!

Everything I hoped for came true as you might expect from the title. We have a strong, Alpha male and his drop-dead gorgeous interest that he can't stop from devouring.

I gave this one 3 out of 5 stars. While it did satisfy my darker side, I still was hoping for more from the relationship and at times, it felt like it was strung out just a little too much.

But overall, it was a fun romance to explore!

Oh this was achy.... totally feels for Ella and her wish to give everything to Wolf.

Total "slap upside the head" to Wolf who didn't realise what a treasure he had in Ella...

And super nice to see Anwyn, Gideon and Deagan in action again...

As usual, Ms Hill enthralls us with the machinations and scheming of various vampires; but I guess the human element will always throw us into perplexity.
A few new vamps; some 3rd marked servants; lots of twists (and dreadful agonies as to whether our people will GET OUT!) but enthralling in all its senses. :)

Quite a roller-coaster of a read :(

A little long in places, but I mostly very much enjoyed. I really love the world and characters Hill has created. This one also had quite a bit of one of my favorite thruples as it takes place mostly at Anwyn's Club Atlantis. Lots of Gideon and even his viewpoint at times.

Amazing

I love Ms. Hill, she's my favorite author. She never disappoints. Whenever I think I've found my favorite book out character she releases someone else into the wild for me to fall in love with. I absolutely loved Wolf and Ella, they are both very broken but help eachother to heal. This series is nty favorite and I have read most of these books multiple times. This book will definitely get a re-read as well! Amazing characters, excellent plot, the world building is fantastic. I can't wait for her next release.

DNF at 100 pages. I’ve taken a long break from Hill (since 2014). I think it was reading all of her books (except the Mermaid one) back to back, everything started becoming too formulaic for me and there’s only so much angst I can take in my books and in life. Yet, I’ve always really liked and respected Hill’s writing and the heart she puts into them all. She’s always striving to allow readers to get close to the characters and see their humanity over extreme alternative lifestyle’s but this time, my line was crossed.

First, there were a few details that took me out of present day era and into McCheeseville 27 years ago. Now some might say I’m being a snob. And maybe I am! And all I can say is that to be immersed into character legitimacy, the details matter to me. Here are my nitpicks:

1 - That the club was “pumping" to “When the Lights Go Out” by Five. Five…….Five???? The club was pumping to Five? A vampire BDSM club??

2 - And then the club pumping to Gloria Estefan “Don’t Let This Moment End - The Remix”. Good grief is my mom up in this club!? Cause if so I need to leave pronto. Just sayin’.

3 - The outfits. Haven’t we moved on from sheer, nipple peeking, peasant blouses under red corsets? Pirate BDSM attire needs to stay in 1997. I mean nowadays the fashion industry have literal hooker fashion legitimised so that all the celebs and super models are wearing & promoting. Like the viral TikTok Poster Girl bodycon dresses & jumpsuits. Any one of those would do BDSM just fine. They even have a latex section….

4 - The Beauty. Gurlfriend Ella isn’t just wearing a Pirate’s of the Caribbean Comic-Ccon outfit, she wears violet coloured contacts (who?…..why?…….) and a banana “comb”. It’s normally called a banana “clip” but whatever, again, now I’m in the late 80’s/early 90’s and not in a good way.

5 - The cat/dog chase scene. Oh my WORD……STOP IT. And what I’m about to write is assumptive on my end (so tell me if I’m wrong) - but not only did this freaked me out with how weirdly & panderingly niche this was but also, I got a very strong telegraphic vibe that this is setting up a catalyst for a later gang rape of Ella.

Cause Hill does A LOT of violence against women in her books. And I gotta say, I am EXHAUSTED by the chronic use of violence, especially sexual assault in “romance” books for women. Why? Why are they conditioning us to equate violence against us to being rescued or saved by a man? Or eve to accept that this should be the normal narrative as being a part of being a woman? It’s even worse that this is chronically perpetuated by women against other women. As women, we should be saying enough. It’s enough. Just stop. STOP. Surely editors can be convinced of alternative traumatic plot devices that don't include nonconsensual violence against us all?? And then turn around and create a trauma bond romance narrative out of it….??? We need to be consciously doing better for one another. Especially in this nuts world we live in.

6 - Daddy Dom play. Oh fuckno. I don’t even want to hear that mentioned in any context. Esp. not nowadays with child trafficking and how it’s so pervasive and like the wild west on the internet with kids and pervos. Yeah, yeah it’s an adult book but any conditioning, planting seeds, normalising anything to do with an adult and little fantasy, or a Daddy/child fantasy? Is not gonna fly with me.

I know people do it but the fact that Hill had to write what she did (see below) to explain away the predisposed opinions on what this is likely really about for a lot of messed up people - actually told me everything I needed to know. Cause she wouldn’t have had to address it right away (like Eminem’s take-down rap in “8Mile”), if she knew it wasn’t a huge factor in this kink or what majority of people would think. That fact that it’s an association regardless of it being in the context of adult role play is not my bag. Nope. I didn’t buy it and just…. it grossed me out. Here's the quote in the book:

Yeah OK. So I’m done here.

If any of you have read my reviews you know that I love Ms. Hill's books. Through 95% of the story I couldn't put the book down. However this story takes a very dark turn and I could only skim the story. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, however this type of violence has a very negative effect on my. That being said I loved Ella. Any female character that can pull herself up and out of poverty and become and loving and generous person is a role model for all.

Wolf is all DOMINANT male. Yes I meant to put that in capital letters. He also has his demons, most brought on from being a soldier in the Vietnam War. He is of interest to many in the Vampire community, including Lady Lyssa. He cares deeply for Ella but having lost his family because of his turning he voids any lasting connections. He is also made so the born vampires don't trust him especially because he hasn't found a servant.

There are some very evil people in this story and they do terrible things to Ella and Wolf. It is made worse that one of those nitwits is part of a team that was brought in to upgrade the security of Atlantis.

"Might as well wish big if you’re wishing for the impossible."

Wolf and Ella are both on staff at Club Atlantis in Atlanta. Well aware of one another, when their relationship changes from passing acquaintance level co-workers to oh so much more an explosive story unfolds.

I really enjoyed Anwyns story, with Gideon and Daegan, so I appreciated the three of them having important roles in this story.

I've read most, if not all of this series, so I find it hard to say if these are stand alone stories, though it is a done in one story, but this entire world is so vibrant with every book building on all that has come before.

This wasn’t one of my favorites of this series. Cause it was Joey, I gave it four stars because her work building is the best. But this one was a little too violent for my tastes. I am trying to decide if it was just this book or I liked Ella so much that I didn’t want anything bad to happen to her. Also felt like there was a lot going on in this book and I wanted more Wolf and Ella development. Daegan, Anywyn and Gideon’s roles were well established sand I felt like there parts in the book was emphasized too much and detracted from me wanting to see Wold and Ella together.

VQ series fans won't be disappointed

I absolutely loved this installment! Great to see the main protagonists get their own story as well as see some of our faves and meet some new characters.
I would recommend this to all Joey Hill's fans as well as those who enjoy BDSM erotic themes mixed with character driven stories, intense romance added with a bit of action, suspense and some Vampire deliciousness!
