Rite Of The Raknari #1

Storm Lord's Bride

Rate this book
She'll do anything to save her sister. Even if it means submitting to a Raknari Storm Lord.

When Imara's village is plunged into endless winter, her father invokes the old ways, pacting with the Storm Lord of the Frozen Peak--a fearsome brute of a man who's as cold as he is savage. But the Storm Lord demands more than tribute for his powers. He wants flesh--the tender, untouched flesh of a human woman to fulfill his every desire.

To spare her sister such a fate, Imara goads him into taking her instead. At first, he's everything she expected. Fierce, possessive, and impossible to resist. But the more she learns about Rheor and his people, the more the frigid mask he wears begins to crack, revealing the proud but wounded warrior beneath.

What Rheor needs isn't a subservient woman to warm his bed, though. He needs a mate--one who can share in his powers.

Being able to control the winds of winter isn't what Imara signed up for, but Rheor's power is slowly killing him. And the more he uses it to protect her and his people, the weaker he gets. As enemies close in, drawn to the bond they share, can Imara and Rheor overcome their own obstacles and complete the Rite of the Raknari in time?

Good story.
New world building, potential for future storylines and plots.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine though there are references to the Hero being experienced with nameless women.
Past experience makes him reluctant to become emotionally tied to the heroine.
Magical theme.
HEA.

When Imara's village is plunged into endless winter that is threatening to wipe them out, her father invokes the old ways with the Storm Lord of the Frozen Peak. In exchange for the Storm Lord helping using his powers, her father offers his daughter, furious Imara refuses to allow her sister to be used like a sacrificial lamb, and takes her place. From the get go Imara refuses to cower, the Storm Lord finds himself fascinated, she is meant to simply warm is bed, but he finds himself wanting her more than he should.

Some interesting worldbuilding and I liked the fire and snark found in the heroine, she had me smiling more than once. There was a sense of intensity and heat missing for me. I was engaged but not potently, found it easy to put down, so a nice read but not one I want to re-read.

I am curious about what will happen in the next book.

What a read. He is scary at first, can she melt his heart. Without giving away things, it’s a must read. Characters are great and the storyline was fantastic. Such a thrilling wonderful read. I received a copy via Booksprout and this is my honest review

I thought we have another uncaring brute as the hero of the story but I was wrong. He was completely the opposite and I am glad that I was wrong. But the female lead drew my admiration. She thought herself as weak, insecure in her own worth but she turned that weakness and insecurities into her own strength because of the deep feeling she has for those around her and, as the Drotun says, it is what have made her the perfect Korun.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and would be looking for the rest of the series. This is just the first in the series, but it is also the start of a "mystery" that would be revealed throughout the series. Besides, there are still the other Drotun who needs to find their own Korun.

The plot was decent. Had promise, but the writing was off-putting. There was just too many grammatical errors, and inconsistencies. Then she's sitting, then standing. She's wearing "underwear" then she's not. It's very confusing and annoying to get into when you constantly just sit there wondering if you're losing your mind or the author is an idiot.

Not to mention it's such a basic virgin heroine and broody Hero. Instant love bullshit.

Enjoyed the world building and romance. The plot was also interesting.

Not a standalone because main problem hasn't been solved. Other books probably will focus on other couples though. However, don't see any updates about future books.

I liked the sound of this book from the blurb as it seemed very different from anything I've read for a while. Mysterious storm lord who's slightly cranky and suffering the wrath of his goddess, searching forgiveness for whatever upset her, check. Girl who's next in line to be chieftain of her local town, but isn't too happy about it as she prefers to hunt, has a smart mouth, and feels her younger sister is more suited to the role, check.
The two are both stubborn, but still end up with what they truly want.
The world is fascinating at the top of the mountain and each peak has its own rule, each with its own 'lord' and I'm guessing we'll learn more about those in further books.
Far too much happens in this story to run through it all, and I could, but you should just read it instead! I was hooked and for every question answered, a new one pops up to keep you going.
The only gripe I had with the whole story was one crude word that I dislike (I'm sure you know which one I mean..I'm not the only one!). I'm no prude and I can swear like a trooper, but that word made me cringe a little when reading and took a bit of the effect away for me. On the plus side, I didn't let it spoil things and enjoyed reading the whole book within a day.

Absolutely wonderful! I loved this story from the first word to the last one. Fantasy romance is my favorite gender and this book fulfilled all my expectations.

Awesome characters, the main couple with amazing chemistry and sharing some difficult situations. They're both stubborn and go from almost enemies to lovers and beyond. Steamy scenes between them in the right moments and with right development. There’s also funny scenes and the supporting characters are really enjoyable too. Adventures, magic, love, heroism, some prejudices for the unknown and deepest feelings are all the way in this story.

This is the beginning of a new fantasy romance saga but this book has a HEA and no cliffhanger so it’s a great reading. It’s brilliantly written and it leaves you eager to keep on with the next book to see how the main plot develop and other characters evolve.

I can't wait for the next story of the Rhankary! <3

This author was new to me, but now definitely on my favourite list now

Small spoiler
A long winter a village chief has to reach out for help to the Storm Lord. The chief offers bounties from the village which also includes one of his daughters. The offering is not asked for but accepted by the Storm Lord. The eldest daughter is berating her father as the Storm Lord appears. He finds himself intrigued with the the bold and outspoken Emara and accepts her as part of the offering.
There is prejudice to overcome on both sides, but both are strong characters, each with insecurities and occasional blind spots for each other
...and of course the is a HAE and an obvious opening to the next in the series... which I will watch out for...

This is a fabulous beginning to what looks to be an excellent new fantasy romance series. There are four Lords of the Peak, Raknari alphas and each a powerful master of an element, in service to their goddess and each in desperate need of a Korun, a mate to help shoulder the burden and responsibilities of his elemental gifts. This first book centers around the Storm Lord Rheor, Lord of the Frozen Peak, and his human mate Imara. I loved reading their story and can hardly wait to see how the other three Lords fare with their own mates. Awesome!

Imara is brave as all heck. I have to say I admire her and her determination. Her life is thrown for a loop and she faces it head-on stepping up when needed and not blaming the entire culture for one storm lord's pride. Rheor seems horrible at first but once you dig deeper it is apparent he is wounded in his heart. They make a great couple and I love the storyline, the world, and the side characters. I cannot wait to read the other's books.

Wonderful Science Fiction Romance

This is one of the best Science Fiction Romance books that I have read in 20 years. The hero learns to not only love his lady but to respect her as an equal.

Imara and Rheor

I wasn't really into this story on the beginning. But I'm glad I kept reading. Both characters become believable and likeable as the story progresses. My recommendation is stick with it...well worth the read.
