Great story to read even if you are not a sci-fi fan. Very cool structure with Caldo-chapters/notes (1 extra point for that!)...it's very refreshing book but still gives a classic science-fiction feel - actually, this book made me grab Asimov again and reread "The Caves of Steel" :)

The story full of wonders, vision and cool ideas. Excellent characters and well-crafted tension...fast-moving, with plenty of emotional punch as well. Highly recommended.

I read this initially as an ebook when it first released and then again in paperback. This is an unsolicited review.

To start, I have followed Patrick’s blog for some time and thoroughly enjoy his writing style, which is approachable, witty, and often unexpected. His science fiction is excellent and I count him as one of my favorite authors ever.

The storyline for book one sets the stage for the future of humanity and his future books in the series. It reaches from the sixties into the far future and many worlds away. Caldo brings heart to the story and I particularly enjoy his point of view.

I rate this book at 4.5/5 stars. Excellent storyline, great storytelling, interesting premise which makes the reader want more and more, clever title and cover. The loss of stars comes with the editing that really needs to be addressed. There are spelling and grammar issues as well as occasional missing words or misplaced words. It bums me out to see such a great story trip up in the finalization process. I’m hoping the author will address the errors in future renditions.

Highly recommended to those who enjoy epic tales and good science fiction (without moving in fantasy realms).

**EDIT: December 2022: the author has assured me that the spelling and grammar issues were in fact addressed, and that the copy which I had received was a version mistakenly uploaded. I have not purchased an additional copy to verify that, but if it really has been addressed (which I believe it has), then my rating would 5/5 stars.
