Sometimes the things you shouldn’t want are exactly what you need.
Kayla
Life hasn’t been easy. I had my son Jimmy at fifteen, and I want the world for him. But the world? It’s not cooperating. I’m fighting to stay afloat, and my family is waiting for me to fail. I don’t need to be crushing on the criminally hot biker next door. He’s way older, and he makes me want to take risks I can’t afford.
Charge
I used to be the fall guy. I took the heat for my club, and with my charm, my pretty face, and my ex—the MC’s lawyer—I mostly got away with it. But now the club’s gone legit—more or less—and I’m sittin’ on a porch, drinkin’ beers. Until the prettiest little mama moves in next door.
She ain’t my type, and I don’t need to be messin’ with a single mom, but there’s something about Kayla and Jimmy. They’re both tough as hell, but on their own, this world will eat them alive.
And once they’re mine, I’m gonna have to figure out how to be a different kind of man…or Kayla and I both are gonna lose it all.
Charge is a 70,000-word motorcycle club romance. It’s the first book in the Steel Bones Motorcycle Club series, but it can be read as a standalone. This novel is intended for adult readers (18+) due to strong language, violence, possible triggers, and explicit intimate scenes.

This story tugged on the heartstrings. Nothing guts me more than single parents barely getting by. Kids are stressful. Without the means to provide for them is devastating. And although, Kayla comes from a wealthy background, she and her son Jimmy have been left to fend for themselves, and it ain't pretty.
Living in a less than appealing neighborhood in a shabby place, she could do without her neighbor's douche son. Charge is gorgeous and cocky and supposedly averse to single mothers and children, go figure. Yet little by little he's slowly changing his stance on that, probably because he wants to bang Kayla.
She’s a kid with a kid. She’s in a bad situation, and she don’t need me addin’ to her problems. And I don’t need to be the pathetic fuck who got curbed and makes himself feel better with barely legal pussy.
It's splendid how effortlessly this author makes you change your opinions about someone unlikeable. Initially you think Charge is a twat until he begins to slowly improve his ways by becoming a positive influence on a little boy who could use a champion and a young woman who desperately needs a helping hand.
She may not be in my bed, but that girl across the parking pad is mine. Her boy, too.
I think the best part was watching Charge grow into a real man. You know those with a sense of responsibility and direction? It was sexy. Plus there's a significant age gap between these two which made it slightly taboo. Although a mother, there was a certain innocence about Kayla that Charge lapped up; literally. They will have to eventually work through their opposing worlds but this was a fantastic ride / read.
I was so excited to read this book, but it was just not for me. The heroine was assaulted when she was young and got pregnant because of it. No one believed her when it came to what happened and her father and stepmother are awful to her. Now, she's 21 with a 6 year old son and struggling to support them both. She moves to a new apartment, which happens to be next to the father of Charge, who is in an MC. Charge immediately is attracted to Kayla and wants to protect her. Because of Kayla's past, she felt a lot younger than 21 and it felt weird with Charge being in his 30s. I like a good age gap, but Kayla read as a teenager because of how naive she was about certain things and about how helpless she was when it came to her situation as a single mom. I didn't love how much she judged Charge for having a record and how obsessed she was with her "pudge" and how embarrassed she was about it. I swear, listening to one scene she mentioned it over five times because she was embarrassed. It got redundant and annoying. Then there was SO MUCH girl hate. Kayla hated every girl she met because they were all obsessed with Charge and wanted him even though he was clearly dating Kayla. The only good woman in this book was Kayla's best friend from childhood. I'm not a fan of excessive girl hate because they're seen as competition for the man, so that put me off. The writing just wasn't great, I wasn't a fan of the heroine, and the narrators weren't my favorite. With all three of those combined, this one just wasn't for me.
My first motorcycle club (MC) romance and most likely my last one? I have one other by this author on my tbr but I realise that as a sub genre it's sooo not my scene 😬👏 The world of bikers seems to have too many 'bitches' and 'whores' for my taste, 'sweetbutts' everywhere who grab the H's crotch and kiss his mouth as a hello how do you do, and as ridiculous, sexist, misogynistic and harmful I find mafia romances - atleast it's absurd and on the fringe of my reality enough to tag it as outlandish and forget about it whereas the world of MCs is a bit too close to contemporary romances so it's harder (or impossible) to ignore the excess of OW everywhere I look.
Now that that's out of my brain and in the air, this book was entertaining and this author is definitely talented. TWs are crucial with her work and in this very series there are tough subject matters that are either in the background or in the foreground (her book Wall has a cheating MMC) so do your research.
This book has Charge (H) (-who's in his early 30s if I'm remembering right) and 21 year old Kayla (h) or "peaches" 🍑 as Charge calls her not because she's suuuch a peach but because her ass is a magnificent fruit worthy of worship according to our dashing hero. It sets the stage for what Charge is looking for right off the bat until Kayla's kid (6 year old) enters the scene and a bewildered Charge immediately takes a step back. Assumptions are made on both sides and we go from there. Insta-lust at the beginning but not acted upon by either party until the story progresses a good way.
I needed actual help from divine sources to understand wtf most of Charge's POV contained because my good god were there a ton of references and slang that I could not comprehend for the life of me. I'm not American (so I'm sure I'm at a severe disadvantage here) and I didn't (and still don't) know what was going on 😬 I have made my peace with the fact that he could have said a whole bunch of important things that will forever elude me 🤷 #unsolvedmystery
What I liked about Charge is that he's very available and reasonably self aware. He's also protective, and doesn't waver or backtrack once he decides she's it for him. He's got a bit of a "I'm a man and I will provide" thing going on and while that's fine to an extent, I like that Kayla is not one to take a back seat on her own life.
I loved Kayla's son's relationships with Charge and his dad and vice versa. That boy's ability to read the room was quite something even if it was a result of growing up with a traumatized parent who was in constant touch with a hostile environment and toxic people (her parents' house during their visits).
Kayla - she has gone through and is still going through so fucking much and for most of the book I was less invested in the romance and more invested in the prospect of (or hoping for anyway) revenge on her father and step mother for their stab-worthy behaviour. I wanted them GONE (run over preferably) for all that they've additionally put her through after a horrific incident she faced when she was 14 (TWs will contain a spoiler for this one and will be at the end of this review). Seeing Kayla get out of a terribly defeating situation and into a good, wholesome one with Charge made me breathe such a sigh of relief for her.
❗A bit of a spoiler for a scene involving Charge: The one thing I didn't like about him was how he let many OW touch him and even kiss/peck him on the lips as a greeting (greeting?! bitch please, that's no greeting) while he brought Kayla and her son out to the Steelbones clubhouse for an evening - she had to watch him be "diplomatic" because they "meant no harm" instead of stern with these women who were falling all over him. Made me mad. Mad-mad. If the situation were flipped, he would have murdered anyone who touched Kayla. What a shitty double standard.
While I didn't think this book or their story was out of this world or worthy of a reread, I'll say it deserves to be a one time read for sure. There was a tenderness and wholesomeness to their interactions with each other and with Kayla's son, and it was nice to see Charge step up from what he was introduced as initially.
‼️TWs and spoilers: Mentions of r*pe of h who was a minor at that time, nothing graphic but hinting at the graphic nature of the incident. It was honestly a tough pill to swallow - had to put the book down for a bit because it was so fucking upsetting and enraging. Add to that her abusive father and step-mother, who should honestly burn in hell for everything. OW ex-wife drama, plus plenty of OW around who are touchy-feely with the H. Mentions of past dalliances or thoughts of OW in H's POV - before he gets together with the h.
Its been a while since I pick up a really good MC romance. When I picked up Charge, I hesitate because the title and the titular character name is just too corky.
And I am so taken back how good is this book. It is not entirely focusing on gritty, dark life of MC romance. Instead it is focusing on how two broken and lonely people come together and fix each other.
The character development and the chemistry develop very well. Instead of cheesy over the top writing, this one is sweet and tender. There is no over the top drama but focusing on the everyday issue such as single parent, family and brotherhood.
It has really nice ending too. I do enjoy this book very much.
I like this author, and think she is uber talented. Her character development is amazing. She takes her time setting everything up, so you feel so immersed in the story. The characters are always well-rounded and very likable.… but… she’s kinda safe/vanilla (at least what I’ve read) like even the supposed assholes from her rejection mate series aren’t straight up rejecting and usually not assholes. It’s typically a misunderstanding or duty, not them being in love with say a skanky OW. Which is great and all, I’m a fan of adulting… but I read for feels and drama, and adulting mc’s living vanilla lives with little conflict isn’t the most titillating material.
So, I always enjoy her books, but wish they were just a little bit more stimulating which is a total Jac thing because I’m distracted easily and tend to gravitate towards less safe/vanilla reads. With that said, I don’t think that would’ve worked with this plot because you can’t really have a lot of action/spicy stuff while trying to navigate a romance with a single mom that is shielding her son from any drama.
In a nutshell, this was a solid slow burn/damsel in distress romance between a 21-year-old single mom and a 30-something biker that’s a bit beta. Kayla it barely scraping by taking care of her 6-yr-old son Jimmy when she moves next door to Charge’s dad. It takes quite a while (40% for a kiss) for any type of romance to get going, but Charge is not the typical badass biker you see in this genre. He’s not partaking with the sweat butts, he’s not bossing Kayla around or grabbing her neck and slamming his lips down, he’s not killing people as their club is legit. He’s taking her to work, being nice to Jimmy, and taking her to cheesy hotels with champagne bathtubs for gentle lovemaking… see safe and vanilla.
Bottom Line- I liked it and will even round up, but I won’t continue on with series… until I’m in the mood for something easy. I loved all the characters but was a bit bored until the last 40% or so. There’s a teeny tiny bit of OW drama when his ex-gf is bitchy and one scene with club girls, but it’s all VERY tame and squared away. Safe, solid romance, great characters, cute kid, available on KU. Epi sets up the next book.
My first by the author, I picked this one up after seeing a couple of readers I follow on twitter loving it. I ended loving it just as much. This was a fairly short read, single mother/heroine needs saving/older hero next door/opposites attract: mutliple premises I like in romance, great chemistry between characters, a gentle slow burn, an unexpected sweetness from a hero you'd expect to be the opposite based on his looks and upbringing. I loved witnessing Charge reluctantly falling for Kayla and her son. This was pretty MC lite, there was some club business, mostly all is legal, Steel Bones has some stuff going on with rivals members that I guess we'll see resolved throughout the series. Charming read, really!
My only issue with the book was the "epilogue" if we can even call it that. Actually, no, we can't. It was an additional chapter setting up for the next book but in no way about Charge and Kayla. I wish authors would stop mislabeling this in romance. Epilogue : HEA/HFN chapter please.

Kayla is 21 and moves with her son Jimmy (6 yo) next door to Boots (dad of the H). The H has just come off a long-term relationship with the sister of the MC pres and the club's lawyer. She cheated on him. He meets Kayla and is sure that he's not interested in a kid with a kid but he can't resist her or Jimmy and they eventually get together.
I liked Kayla. She had a terrible dad and step-mom who tried to take her son away and treated her terribly. She is poor, undereducated, and barely scraping along. She lives in fear that her dad will take her son away at the first opportunity. She convinced me she was a tough girl doing the best she could and she was a great mom. Charge was sweet and protective but I had some issues with his character (I'll include that in my spoiler). He was patient with the h and let her take things at her own pace. For the most part, I enjoyed this book. Not sure I'll continue with the series since MC books usually wind up disappointing me.
I’m getting the drift that Wells heroes aren’t the brightest, not in the sense as in most heroes are simply too arrogant to live, but in the sense that we need to sit back and enjoy his pretty boy face, his muscles and how nice he is.

This is a sweet little romance between a heroine born with a silver spoon that has been knocked in the teeth and our MC MIMBO. Her son is a six year old curmeodgen who is pretty adorable.
The hero is terrified. His talk to his penis way too much about the heroine’s rear when he first sees her, but lusting after a mom is more terrifying that the rival gang the Rascal’s or something.
The old my car won’t start gets the ball rolling, and the hero finally gets to consummate things with the heroine at the place of my teen dreams. The Poconos. Yep, the H takes her to the oh-so classy Champagne suite. Neither the heroine nor I ever figured out if he was serious or not about how sexy the Champagne suite was, but it was a mark up over the El-Car Motel. Sadly their bed was round and not heart-shaped, but at least there was a mirror on the ceiling and a champagne glass to roll around in.
Evil meanies squirm out of the woodwork to make things more interesting: Vampira the H’s ex, the h’s even worse parents, and an evil social worker stir the pot up regarding the mini curmedgeon and there is nice little twist at the end.
I would classify this as MC lite. Both characters were nice, the hero doesn’t cheat, and the thought he may not be too good for her is a flittng thought rather than a brooding cloud that drives him to idiotic behavior. Of course, that could be because he’s not really a brooding thought kind of guy.
Cate C. Wells is quicky becoming one of my favorite authors. I have yet to read any of her stories and not fallen completely in love with them. This story was truly lovely. Charge had more of a sweetheart vibe to him, than a badass biker vibe, but I adored him completely. He was so good to Kayla and her son. I loved the entire relationship between Charge and Kayla and I adored the way Charge completely accepted Kayla’s son into his life, becoming the father figure the little dude needed. Kayla’s story broke my heart. Poor Kayla had such a horrific thing that happened to her; along with shitty, unsupportive parents who treated her abominably. I experienced some really intense and stressful anxiety during the parts of this story that dealt with Kayla’s shithead parents. I was a little bummed Kayla’s dad didn’t get at least a nice hard kick to his balls. He was such a prick. I even got to enjoy some OW drama with a smidgen of jealousy added in. This story had amazing side characters too. I loved the entire story. I'm definitely going to dive into the rest of this series!
What’s really refreshing about this motorcycle series is how it focuses on the characters. There’s biker business, which I enjoy of course, but the main focus is the characters. It’s all about character development and growth. Charge and Kayla definitely had/showed this in Charge.
Kayla was a great heroine. I struggled with her because I needed more fight from her. I needed her to stand up for herself and her son Jimmy. She got there along the way but it took time. Charge helped her with it. They had one thing in common. Low self esteem but thanks to each other and Charge’s Pops and his biker crew they found their voices. Charge was so good to and for Kayla. Showed her what being loved and having a family would be like. The connection and chemistry was a wonderful slow burn.
This author has captured me with her storytelling and character portrayal. So excited to continue with this series.
I liked this one. It's a single mom, age gap, MC story with enough angst to keep you on your toes. Though check the trigger warnings first cause there are some heavy ones. Can't wait to read the rest of the series
* How did the book make you feel?: I enjoyed this book. It didn’t have the angst level I gravitate toward and was more instalove, but it was still a great intro to the series.
* How do you feel about how the story was told?: It’s told in dual POV and the h’s perspective is heartbreaking. I wanted to throttle her POS father for doing that to her when she was a victim.
* What did you think about the main characters?: I really liked both of the MC’s. Charge was lovable and protective.
* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: My blood pressure must’ve been through the roof over the antics the father pulled. There were some great steamy scenes. This author is great at writing those!
* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: teen mom finds romance with older biker dude, rape victim blamed
* What did you think about the ending?:I was so glad someone finally stood up for the poor girl and that she got her HEA. I’m definitely invested in the rest of the series.
* What is your impression of the author?: I’m on a current binge!
Possible Triggers and Safety: slut shaming, victim blaming, date rape, kidnapping

I just don’t like MC’s stories. But I love Cate C Wells, so I only read this because it was KU and I’ve read and reread all of her other work this year 🥹
This has one percent of you vibes but without the cutest exhanges between kid and MMC. I’m sorry but I love me my mean assholes, possesive alphas and manipulative assholes in dark romance, but everytime a FMC ends up with a MC member I think she’s signing up for suffering and a bad life. I know, I’m mental, but my brain is weirdly wired and I cannot for the life of me see them differently.
This is between a 3 and a 4 for me. Loved the super sweet hero, and the heroine and her son were very endearing. But there were definitely some elements to this that bugged me and if this had been a day where I felt like being more critical I would have some salty things to say!
However, it was a very fast and engaging read. May come back and change my rating after I think on it some more.
Different for an MC romance. Less MC action and more relationship stuff. As I said, it had a different kind of storyline than the typical MC one and the H was also different than what is expected from the trope. Not different good or bad, just new.
3 Stars MC Romance (civilian heroine/MC hero) Single Mom Trope
MC romance is a hit or miss for me. Mostly a miss, if I’m honest. Maybe it isn’t quite for me but I’m still not giving up on it. I do love bad boys so it’s no wonder this type of romance intrigues me.
Charge & Kayla’s Story ages 30/21 Dual PoV
What I liked: ✔️ The whole damsel in distress trope. ✔️ Charge was bossy and all alpha-like with Kayla. ✔️ The single mom trope. I enjoyed watching Charge and Jimmy (Kayla’s 6yo boy) develop a bond. ✔️ Jimmy was a tough kid, protective of his mama. He was endearing<3 ✔️ Kayla. Despite what happened to her when she was very young (see trigger warning below), she sought her independence and did her best to take care of her little boy. ✔️ Satisfying HEA.
What I didn’t like: ❌ I know this one’s on me, but the way Charge spoke bugged me, and not just the cringey grammar but the lingo, too. I realize it’s typical of an MC romance, but some do standout more than others, like this one. ❌ The way Charge’s ex fiancé treated him and described him, made him come off as a loser. The sad part was that he agreed with her 🤦🏻♀️ Which only made me see him that way. ❌ It bothered me that his ex was the one who saved the day at the end, after acting like such a bitch. And by the way, why did she have to be described as incredibly gorgeous, smart, and such a badass? 😭 ❌ Kayla struggled to stand up for herself, at least when it came to her father and when Charge’s ex belittled her. She only stood up to Charge, which I did appreciate. ❌ The sexy times weren’t very…sexy. The ridiculous resort Charge took Kayla to was embarrassing, but I guess he was lacking in choices? Also, this is the first time I read about “squirting.” Seriously, no 🙈 ❌ The epilogue was used to set up the next book in the series. It had nothing to do with the Kayla & Charge, but about a secondary character. Ugh, I don’t like these types of epilogues.
**Trigger Warning** Rape off page. Described but not in graphic detail.
Miss Wells put her whole brain cells into this one. I absolutely feel in love with Charge, peaches (I know it ain’t her name but it’s stuck, and jimmy!
Charge was an ok read for me. I didn't love Charge at all which rarely happens because he spent a lot of the beginning whining like a child about his ex. The author tried to present him as laid back but to me he was an immature wimp. Kayla although 21 felt a lot younger than that and while I do believe it was mostly due to what happened to her and how her stepmother and father dealt with it. I do wish she had confronted them about the past but I guess it wasn't the right time. The relationship and intimate scenes between Charge and Kayla were lukewarm and not at all interesting. For me the best part of the book was Jimmy and Boots. At this time I have no plans to continue this series.
I am always on the look out for a new MC romance series so I was keen to read this but it didn't quite match up to my expectations. Enjoyable in places but not a book I would read again and I am not sure that I would read anymore in the series but never say never...
Kayla is a very young Mum -she is 21 and her little boy , Jimmy , is 6. If rape is a trigger for you then be aware that Kayla was drugged and raped at a party and didn't realise she was pregnant until she was 5 months along. Her Father and step monster are just awful , awful people and have manipulated her previously to get custody of their grandchild and she lives in fear that that will happen again. She is trying to do everything by the book and I did love the relationship between her and Jimmy. He's a quirky little chap who is well written and very easy to love from the start.
Charge is in the Steel Bones MC and he is about 31 , so somewhat older than Kayla but I think the gap felt bigger because in many ways, because despite what happened to her , she is quite naive. Equally there were times when Charge struck me as a bit immature so maybe it all balances out. Anyway, moving on...
What I didn't like about the book was that for much of the time Charge is mooning about and thinking about his ex girlfriend Harper. She is his best friend's big sister (his best friend is also the Club President). It irritates me when the ex is the most beautiful, stunning , gorgeous, model like woman in the world (from every character's viewpoint) and is all confidence and swagger. She was older than Charge, lives in a fancy house which she kicked him out of and she was in a relationship with him for 6 years. I don't want to hear about how accomplished she was in bed with the Hero either. Nope. And she is a Class A bitch. Nasty woman. She had an affair and that ended their relationship.
The good things include how Charge and Pops were with Jimmy and the relationship between Charge and Pops themselves which is absolutely entertaining, gorgeous and heartwarming. Maybe that's the reason I struggled at times - I liked the relationship between other characters more than the one between the H/h. I also enjoyed the confrontation between Harper and Kayla at the party which was well written and definitely delivered an emotional punch.
❛Peaches?❜ Charge murmurs. ❛Uh huh?❜ ❛Do you love me?❜ His voice is a little too deep. A touch uncertain. I smile, lifting the cheek plastered to his chest. How can he not know? He’s so deep in my head and my heart, I figured he’d read it all there already. ❛I love you,❜ I say.
It was okay. The Hero is pretty rough and crude when he is thinking of women. The heroine is a single mum with a tragic story. There is some ex drama. Hero pushing away at first. I wasn't keen on the Hero reminiscing about his ex all the time, including thinking of when he used to have sex with her and what that felt like even after he has met and is attracted to the heroine. HFN. I imagine we will see the couples HEA through other books in the series.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept my attention really well and I read it in one day, which is pretty rare for me these days so I loved that.
The premise reminded me a bit of One Percent of You with the judgemental neighbor looking down on the single mom next door. And then the MC elements with the custody fears reminded me a little of Ride Steady one of my favorite KA books. I love a good single parent book and Jimmy was a cute kid. I loved seeing his relationship blossom with Charge and Pops. That said I am pretty confused about what the fuck is going on with Charge and his ex...this series clearly has a much larger over arching plotline that we're still completely in the dark about when the book ends, but it's clear the president, Heavy, and his sister know some shit that we don't. I'm also very confused about her about face change of attitude in regards to Charge, Kayla and Jimmy 🤷🏼♀️ there's some weird shit going on and I have a feeling it's going to make me feel bad for Harper (the ex) later and she was such a bitch I'm not really looking forward to that (if I continue with this series).
Overall though this was entertaining and cute so I had a good time.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed this book. A slow burn romance that had great characters and chemistry. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 was because there were quite a few grammar issues in it. If your looking to start a new MC series check this book out. It’s also on kindle unlimited.
This is the first book in an MC series it was enjoyable and well written. I found it to be less MC and more family drama so if you're looking for a book in this genre that focuses on the sweet this is the one for you and though I didn’t rate it as high as previous books by this author it’s still a solid read.
Kayla hasn’t had it easy only Twenty-one and mother to six-year-old Jimmy she’s kept on a tight leash of control by her domineering father and stepmother. Her greatest fear is that her parents will take Jimmy away from her again and so she finds herself appeasing them as much as she can.
The circumstances of Jimmy's conception aren’t good and they sent Kayla spiralling down a black hole of depression she’s worked tirelessly since to try and prove to her family that she can be a good mother to her son who is the centre of her world.
Kayla was lovely she did come across as much younger than her actual age though I think because of all of her self doubts and lack of normal experiences. She also doesn’t seem to trust her own judgement which is understandable considering her backstory and her asshole parents. It’s almost like she’s been living in a vacuum and is terrified every moment of every day that her own wrong choices could contribute to her losing Jimmy all over again. Kayla’s parents are still definitely calling all the shots in every aspect of her life.
Chance spots Kayla as soon as she moves into her new apartment but he doesn’t do single mums in fact he doesn’t even want children. He’s slightly older than Kayla thirty and belongs to a local MC the steel bones. At first, he tries to scare her off but it’s not long before Kayla’s and Jimmy's presence strikes a chord within him and he just can’t stay away. Kayla brings forth all those protective urges he wasn’t aware he was even capable of. Not long out of a long term relationship himself he’s not exactly looking to get serious so soon, especially with a young mother but he can’t seem to help himself there’s something about Kayla that just draws him in. I do think Charge liked to be needed by Kayla his ex Harper I think emasculated him a whole lot and with Kayla, he can nurture and coddle her to his heart's content and he likes that as he gets to be her white knight.
I liked that Charge was protective I did find him initially thinking about his ex Harper all the time off-putting and also that he didn’t put the club bunnies in their place when they were being so forward just putting it all down to club life. I did think sometimes he was a little too laid back and considering he was meant to be all down and dirty previously I was hoping for a little more on the action front but this one did feel quite tame and I wasn’t completely sold on the chemistry.
overall though this was a good read with no cheating it has a sweet romance at its centre and a HEA. It’s not my favourite from this author but still, a decent solid read and I will definitely pick up the next one in the series.
Kayla is a struggling 21 year old single mom of a 6 year old son, she moves next for to Pops Charge's dad Charge is known as the laid back one in the MC, he's down to have his brothers backs but he doesn't kick up a fuss. Recently out of a years long relationship he's instantly attracted to the girl next door
***** This is a no for me. In the previous book the fmc was 18 years old but she was much stronger than Kayla and that's the difference in life experiences. Kayla lived an affluent life that was starved of affection. At 14 she went to a party woke up next day without underwear,5 months later it comes out she's pregnant. She goes through the wringer with her shitty dad and his POS wife making things hard for her and constantly putting her down. She's managed to fight her way back to taking her son and moving out and even though it's hard as hell she's making a life for her and her kid. She needed a man like Dizzy maybe, someone who's got the hard in him but treats her like gold. What she got was Charge who actually started off this book seemingly hung up on his ex. Matter of fact I was sick of hearing about Harper in the first few chapters. Then he's around and he's not, they get close he's got club business and disappears....like wtf!! This girl needed a strong Alpha male to take her back and help grow her strength instead she got a beta who took some time to get his shit together I didn't like the relationship at all I loved Jimmy and seeing him with Charge and especially Pops, Kayla was a good mom but whew she had some toughening up to do All in all this was my first disappointment by the author. I also feel like I was left hanging concerning her parents...they needed a come to Jesus moment with a couple punches thrown in! Despicable heartless dickhead
** the club girls were all over him at one point and it's clear he wasn't interested but I needed his dumb Ass to drive that point home much clearer than he did. Clown ass
No cheating H was recently out of a relationship, seemed to get around a bit before Harper but not after He considered being with one of the club women but didn't go through with it h was drugged and raped as a teen, it happened at a party with no clue as to who did it Slight ow drama
I'm not a big fan of Motorcycle Club romances. They seem to be overly romanticized and a dime-a-dozen in the world of romance novels. However, I did enjoy this simply because of the author. She writes mundane characters so realistically that you can't help but be enthralled.
I rooted for Charge and Kayla, and I felt the chemistry between them. If I were more interested in the MC storyline, I probably would keep going with the series. But I'm mostly interested in Heavy & Dina's story, so I'm going to skip over the rest. Would fully recommend to those who are particularly interested in this subgenre of romance.
I liked this one. I like this trope of gruff tough guy gets his heart melted by kid/kids of young single mom. But I think it was a little better done in a book I just read prior called One Percent of You by Michelle Gross. I think this was good but reading it so close to the other it's differences were clear.
My heart hurt for Kayla and all the injustices done against her, especially what her family put her through after her trauma. She was one tough little cookie. I loved grumpy little man Jimmy and lord love his little heart as he tried to protect his mother. I'm glad they found Charge who could protect and care for them as they deserved. Definitely a feel good HEA!!
