This book is an interesting history of knitting in Norway, as well as the stranded knitting traditions particular to the region of Setesdal. There are many good photos as well as pattern maps, and even some good thoughts on knitting in the medieval era. There is quite a bit here that fans of stranded knitting would get out of this book. However, there are many frustrating things too. Many of the photos do not have accompanying captions, making them lovely pictures, but not helpful information. Many of the older photos have not been magnified for the publication, making it difficult to impossible to pick out the details the author is discussing. Many sweaters from Setesdal are embroidered, and while the author mentions yarns and pattern development, she does not talk about how the embroidered collars and cuffs are attached to the finished garments. I also found the translation quite awkward. That being said, many knitters will find good inspiration in this book.
