Time Wars Last Forever #1

Ryan Time: Ryanverse Book 19

Rate this book
There is a time for everything under the heavens. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to love and a time to hate. But when it's a time war you're looking at, it's Ryan Time. Jon is called back two billion years to save the Earth from an unprecedented threat. A alien clan is stealing time. It uses that time energy to power its quest to amass even more time. Soon, there will be no time for any race but them. No civilization has yet been able to even bloody the clan, let alone stop them. But that irresistable force is about to run smack into an immovable object, one pissed off Jon Ryan.

As the very real possibility of never having existed closes in on humanity, Jon must rally his ragtag forces to do the impossible, yet again. But how can you defeat an enemy who can cause you to never have lived to face them in battle? A brilliant young scientist, Sachiko Jones, has foreseen the aliens' advance. Then she is thrust into a pivotal role in the defense of our planet. But though she commands unlimited power, she's a graduate student, not a warrior. If she can't learn quickly, the very worst outcome will be inevitable.

Even a seasoned veteran like Jon is thrust out of his comfort zone. Time war is completely new to him, mind-blowing, and his enemy is a master of the skill. Battling -- surviving -- throughout all of time and space simultaneously defies common sense. One false move, one faulty assumption, and you're not dead. You will have never existed. And that which never was cannot be resurrected. It can't even be remembered. But, then again, impossible odds and cataclysmic consequences are what Jon does. It is possible, however, that just this once, Jon will find himself out of time.

I claim three great accomplishments in my life: my family, my medical career, and my writing.  They are in, I am certain, their proper order.  My family, includes my perfect wife Karen, my wonderful children (adults now) Chris and Kim, my sweet grandson Jonathan. And now you! From family, I draw strength, love, and meaning.  What humbling gifts.  I am almost as proud of my incredible career as a physician (no, not that I'm incredible, it's that the journey was).  I'm an Internest and have worked in ER's, hospitals, clinics, homes, and most places between.  What a rush!  When I say it's an honor and a privilege to be a doctor, I truly mean it.  My writings, provide me a powerful creative outlet and so warms my soul directly.  In my wilder dreams, I hope my writing is of sufficient merit and so benefit you too in an impactful manner.
Know me by what I love: Dickens, Orwell, and Bradbury; Milton, Donne, and Blake; Coltrane, Davis, and Desmond; Picasso, Michelangelo, and Renoir; Astronomy, Biology and Geology; Doctor Who, Star Trek (original TV), and Doctor Who (yeah, I love it that much); Avedon, Doisneau, and Arbus; burger and fries, coc au vin, and pizza-pizza-pizza.  Have I left anything important to me out?  Just one, the most important: God.  I'm an ex-Catholic wondering if churches are device of men and are necessary at all.  More importantly, I wish I spent more time seeing His wonder in the world (I'm not evangelizing, just passing along info; this is a bio, n'est pas?).  Oh, and this has never come up, but there used to be a series of magazine ads where sexy looking people were asked a series of questions about what they liked.  A standard query was: "What's your favorite word?"  So, this really stuck with me (I know, I need to get out more, don't I) and now I can tell someone, you, my favorite word.  Oneself!  I love it.  It means 'on your own' right, but it also refers to the elf you own!  Brilliant word.  Now, where'd I put that elf.......

I absolutely dislike this style of writing- too shallow and fast moving to take anything seriously. And the humor is meh.

If I was on a bus, and the Ryanverse book 19 was a stop - but not the end station - I would have pressed "STOP" and gotten off. And walked in another direction. Well - I will treat is as such, and so this stop 19 is my final stop.

This Jon Ryan book-series started as an amazing journey. The part of the Earth getting pulverized by Jupiter, and the escape of mankind... All that was fantastic. And then adventure after adventure - all following some sort of path - and following at least some logic physics-wise. It made sense and it was fun.

Then suddenly - off by 2 billion years we went - Yes! TWO BILLION.
Jon Ryan took that in stride, and well, why not - nothing much seemed to have happened in such a short period of time - a mere blink of an eye...
The books got weirder and weirder though.. Logic seemed to take a space-hike, and Jon kept getting more and more "sail-ho - Jon will fix it - HA HA" in his behavior.
Still the story held some fascination, that kept me going, even though I was beginning to have periods where the story was fed into my ear (The audio book version) and I sort of stopped listening for minutes at a time... And only to find that it did not really matter, because 90% of the words was - indifferent. Arguments between stranger and stranger beings - beings talking about Storks as gifts to tell a male that a female had gotten pregnant - 2 billion years in the future, and on a planet, in a galaxy far far - FAR away. Beings with ludicrous names like Rama-Lama-Dama...
I almost stopped after book 18, but Scott Aiello's amazing performance, kept me at it...

Now - book 19. It's all about time - or no time, or stopped time, or whatever. For me anyway, it is time to stop. Sorry Scott. You did an excellent job as always. It just couldn't save the story anymore.
It is all just one long meaningless word-spew now. All logic now has stopped. None of it makes any sense at all - and still, our Heroes just crack on, offering the most ridiculous explanations and solutions to whatever problem thrown at them.

It used to be fun - but not anymore. I did book 19 - and I guess book 20 will sort out THAT particular mess in which Jon and co. found themselves in the end. Sail Ho you good people - But not me. "DING" The bus made it's stop, and I got off. Safe journeys Jon and friends. I hope everything works out for you guys in the end. I waved at them, then turned right. No more time for me.

Great first book in the series, the banter is a lot of fun. I like the round cast of characters, from AI to conscious ships to humans and more! Really enjoyed this one. I will say there was one phrase that was said a tad too often IMO. It’s rare for me to say that / even notice when a phrase is said a lot. I think the style might not be for everyone but think similar to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy & the Bobiverse series. (That being said I have not read Bobiverse yet. Im planning on reading it soon. The comparison is from what I've heard of the series)
Quite a fast pace novel and a lot going on, if your not paying attention you WILL get lost. Very excited to start book 2!

Actual rating is 3.75/5

Have to love snarky sarcastic heroes with the intelligence to back it up. This is basically in the vein of Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, but blended with an alien invasion/military-sci-fi story. It's less military and more space nerds, but heavy on the humor, which is very much entertaining. The fact that the war itself is taking place through both time and space-time is a very interesting aspect. Also, the author does a good job of explaining things so as not to get bogged down in the science, but not feel as though it's all just happening "because I said so."

Not at all what I was expecting, its humorous but not Douglas Adams funny, its an interesting story and I enjoy the characters. I am going to read the next book so thats a pretty decent endorsement there have recently been a few books that I have no interest in the sequel but I do for this one.

Jon Ryan is back on earth, in the past. To save the universe once again. The timemaker is eating up time in our local group and when the Central black hole of the milky way get's untimed John is called to the past to help save the future. (There's a lot of confusing timey-wimy stuff in this.)

Another fun, imaginative entry in the Ryanverse saga. I have gotten to the point where reading the adventures of Jon and Sapale is like sitting down with a few old friends. looking forward to the next book!

Well I’d say it’s in the A tier of C tier books. Fun and lopsided. Sometimes explaining some sci-fi, sometimes being very abstract. The two main male character and two main female characters blend together in their behavior toward watch other.

Shoehorned in main characters that play no real part in the plot and the book would have been better without the title character.

I was hoping this might be a good series to take over now the Bobiverse was done, but one book was more than enough for me.

A Most Excellent Return

I dropped everything to read this new book because when Jon Ryan is around, you can bet the house things will get beyond interesting. And this time, the enemy is... time. Or, rather, implacable aliens who literally survive by stealing time and making other intelligences never exist to get their time fix is of no consequence to them.

Time is all that matters. Until they decided to mess with Earth and before that Jupiter thing. Mess with Earth, mess with Jon, and it’ll go bad for you but time is literally against our hero this time. Earth now never existed and Jon has to figure out how to do the impossible: Make something exist again when it never did and if this sounds crazy to you, welcome to Jon Ryan’s life.

Read it. Finish it. Read it again until the next book comes out.

Best yet

This book was devoured in an afternoon. To say it’s a page turner is an understatement, the only negative thing I can say is that part 2 isn’t out yet. Hurry up Craig !
