Why oh why! (Spoilers)
Why do most dark romances have to entail a woman getting the heck beat out of her by a man until she submits to him? Why is just about every author writing about this? Where's the imagination? Where are the stories that make authors stand out as individuals?
I swear there's a meeting going in a back room where authors are discussing the next trend they'll all write about.
Changing up the scenery, year, and dialogue or even the galaxy doesn't change the foundation or plot of the story that mimics all the others. These days, women are as oppressed in fantasy as they are in real life.
I challenge this author and others to create one story with a lead female character who has a spine that doesn't fold as soon as the lead male character shows up. Could she not end up in a corner crying with a red, spanked bum after putting up a pitiful fight, especially after training to be a warrior? What was the point of putting that in her back story if it doesn't help her when she needs it?
The lead male character even says she fights like a girl. At that point, any narrative on the lead female was just filler and she was a supporting character to me. The story became all about him humiliating her, how fast he can tame her, and how their kids will be raised after he teaches their future mother to obey. No, seriously, that's what he said. I was done about fifteen percent into the story

As Ree aka Aria is fighting the good fight against evil, there is a bounty on her head. Kaal is sent to find Ree and kill her, but instead, he conquers her in another way. Kaal takes Ree as his mate and because of that, he is also taken prisoner along with Ree when they are taken to the prison colony of Zibaru, a place no one leaves alive. There is a lot of rebel fighting, hiding and punishments as the forces of the evil conquerors take over every rebellious faction they can find. Ree and Kaal have a very sexual beginning and do their best to stay together and keep their love alive. This is another steamy, sexy read from Ms. Dane that I enjoyed very much. There are surprising unknowns that help to fight the rebellion, I just wish I knew more about those left behind.

Could the mercenary that was sent to kill her be the mate she has always wanted? Talk about a bad day, first Aria is captured by an alien sent to kill her and then it turns out that was the best part of the day as both she and the alien are captured and sent to a prison planet. This was a dark sci-fi romance with plenty of heat and fortunately a HEA. Be warned, it is dark and explicit.

I feel like I don't read these types of books 'cause I like them anymore; I think it's because they're fucking hilarious sometimes.
Like one of Aria's thoughts: The primitive slut in me hoped he would. Like Jesus lady, calm your tits. Literally. Lmfao.
And does liking getting smacked in the ass = weak female lead ?
Depending on the case I've realized. I remember reading about this chick who was so desperate to "get a release" (fucking smacked)
that she literally did the most stupid thing then betrayed this dude and like holy fuck, she was one weak-ass cunt of a lead. But Aria wasn't like that stupid. She was fine honestly, nothing too bad to say about her but she wasn't very special or strong. Stubborn sometimes sure, like most authors do to try to make their female leads "strong" and most usually fail (Aria here). Wasn't strong, wasn't super weak either... maybe a little weak but who really gives a fuck.
Honestly made no fucking sense, like the entire scenario was made up so the author could put a teeth-clenching scene like that in there.

Little bit of a mixed bag.
The first bit made me want to give up (highlights speak for themselves)
The second half, he turned it around and it was almost like a different book. Although did feel a little rushed
So try and get through the first bit to enjoy the second and ignore the whole inspect/cleansing scene.

Conflicted - Glad I went forward
I almost stopped in the beginning when Kaal and Aria met. The scene just didn't work for me - it did not feel tangible. I had thought Aria weak anyway from the opening page. And Kaal? Don't even get me started on what a misogynistic horses backside he was.
Then something happens (I do not want to give spoilers) and how both the h and the H responded made me decide to push forward and hope for more with regards to character development.
As the story progressed I began to click with the characters - it became a much better read with a tangible plot line and backstory that definitely began to draw me in. The characters began to develop as I reader I felt more connected to them. Aria's character became what I would expect of a woman from her background. Kaal became a presence, I know he was always there but for me, he was not (?). Occasionally the stories flow would stall for a moment though it quickly picked up again. The background story has a bit of mystery and suspense to it that I was a bit curious about. Most of the characters were mere shadows in the overall story line, there, but not really tangible. A couple left serious impressions on me even if we were only with them briefly
Rigo was one of them.

Ree had been hiding from the savages that took the life of her father and lover. Her father’s friend was her protector along with two others. They were running from the Federation, the betrayal of the Insurrection. Kaal did what he had to do to survive. When he came upon a young warrior, he easily over took him. But to his surprise he was a she and he knew that he had to have her. She would be his prisoner and she would call him master.
You have to give it to Ree, she is a fighter. She fought like a wild woman against Kaal but she ended up with a red hot butt. These two have that pleasure and pain thing. The more he spanks, the more it heats these two up for hot sex. I was a bit surprised that she stopped fighting so quickly but then one never knows. Things don’t turn out the way it’s planned and now they have to fight to be free. This was really an adventure with rebels and federation. Battles to be free and saying the leader of the insurrection.

Wooo this one is Steamy! There are plenty of yummy scenes. And even tho Kaal decides to take Ree for himself and make her call him Master he always makes sure she is taken care of!
Ree is kind of in need of the discipline Kaal gives her right from the start. She is a strong character and knows she needs to keep going to help the rebels stay strong after her father dies. But she is a bit of a brat. Tho I can't completely blame her with all that life has thrown her way at the beginning of the book. We all have those kind of days!
If you like any of the authors other books you will definitely enjoy this one as well!

He is sent to kill her and takes her captive. He does a lot of hot and steamy things to her and can't help himself but to take her as his mate. The federation that sent him to kill her wants her dead and is going to get it one way or another so they take them both prisoner. He has to sexually use and punish her publicly which still turns her on. Very well written and with a lot of twists and turns that keep you reading page after page. It is exciting, hot, dramatic and much more. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.

But when her protectors are killed he takes her captive and makes her call him master. As they grow closer the Federation finds them and takes her. To protect his mate he allows them to capture him aswellband off they go to the prison planet Zibanu. And as they fight for the other prisoners and continue her fathers legacy he stands with her. Awesome FUCKING good work book
I love Miss Callista Danes books. I have many samples downloaded so that I can purchase them at will. I am completely convinced that this author has what it takes to hold my attention for a long while to come. I look forward to reading each and every book of hers that I can get my hands on. She is so talented. Her characters are so full of dramatic actions and her storyline is original and has kept me heated with all the smexy times locked inside her stories. Keep up with your writing style you are really talented.

When your the only surviving family member of the leaders of a rebellion you have a price on your head. Sent as an assassin/bounty hunter Kaal knows Ree is meant to be his mate and when he is double crossed and they are sent to prison he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
I loved the progression from enemy to lover and the D/s theme to this Sci-fi dark romance. This also had a lot of hot steamy sex and was action packed and suspenseful.

Good read
Liked this read. It was a good read. The female character Ree was fierce but she also was definitely fully put in hand by Kaal. It was sad when she looses those she loves but that is war and that this battle. Interesting how you learn Kaal’s story and it is nothing like you pictured. He is definitely strong and alpha but he is loyal and has a sense of honor. He also doesn’t like others touching what he deems as his. He is a force to reckon with. Good book.

This was a very dark and explicit read but at the same time it had a romantic element to it. Plenty of intrigue, suspense, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

An enjoyable read. It is dark so be prepared. This story about Aria and Kaal. A well written book that will make you cringe and yet keep reading. The ending was great. I really enjoyed how this author wrapped up the story. Aria needed to be who she had been born to be and it was fabulous to see that honored.

A hot and very steamy story! Ree and Kaal are hot together but can it last? There might be some things that are dark to others so use your own judgement in reading this. All in all, this was very good and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Sci-Fi and dark!!!

This is definitely a dark read so if you are offended by sex from a dominant or brutality from the enemy, don't get this book. The story was interesting but it tended to drag in places and the story could have moved along a bit more quickly. I didn't think I'd ever get to the end.
