I liked this book, I just didn't like aspects of this book.
I didn't see the need for the story within the story; it was tangentially connected and I could see the connection being completed post-reading, but it didn't really connect during the reading so to me, there was no reason for it. The primary purpose that I could see that the story within the story served was dealt with in a different way, over the last few pages, so again, the Reader part belonged, just not her "story." I understand her "story" ultimately helped her, and in that way it could help others, but I think this revelation could have been alluded to throughout without having to actually read the secondary story. This may seem confusing, but in order to not give anything away, it's the best I can do. And, I didn't like the chop-chop baby; that got old the first time I read it!
I did like the primary characters and some of the secondary characters, and the plot moved along at a nice clip. It's a good, quick read, and I think it'd be well served as a YA book more so than an adult read. I believe that it could reach youth who need to be reached in a way that simply talking can't. Were I still a teacher in the high school classroom, this book would definitely be on my shelf for that reason alone!
