Tabitha

Moving to a new town isn’t easy, especially when it’s so you can bond with the half-sister you never knew existed until those ancestry DNA results came back. I took the leap and got a job at the school in Piersville as an art teacher and made an offer on the pretty little house that I’d seen online. What I never expected to find when I arrived was my sister catching her husband cheating on her, and then getting arrested for no reason by the Sheriff, Dave Bell.

I was a sucker for tattoos, I was also a sucker for a tall man built like a wall.  And apparently I was a sucker for a guy with a badge and a big… truck

Call me old-fashioned, but being arrested, interrogated, and tortured (well, maybe not quite) wasn’t exactly romance, but everyone makes mistakes so I gave him a second chance.

Until I found out the huge secret he was hiding – well, more to the point who he was related to.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, you’re a twat. Fool me three times, no chance!

“DB”

The people in the town I worked in were relatively easygoing, well aside from the Townsends. That family was a law unto themselves.

Tabitha Newton, the new art teacher, breezed into town and into my life at the same time. I’d been called out to check on a house with a suspicious car in the drive by a concerned neighbor and had stumbled across the new woman sprawled across the living room floor. One accidental arrest, a trip to the station, and a friendly ‘getting to know you’ interrogation later, and I asked her out before she could find out who my stepsister was.

It was stupid, of course she’d find out, but something about the woman had intrigued me so much that common sense hadn’t even come into it.

There’s a way around that though because there’s a way around everything. If that fails, I’ll just arrest her again – because I can.

I’m a British author who grew up all over the world. My parents were diplomats, so we were posted to all of the corners of the earth and it was a blast. Some wouldn’t seem so awesome if you heard about them, but my parents always made it a fun experience and it molded my brother and I into who we are today.

I live in Wiltshire in the west country of the UK. At random times of the day, I’ll hear a moo from the fields around me, or get a whiff of that…uhhh…’country air’, and I love it! I might not have grown up in the UK, but I’m a British girl to the bone (regardless of the suspicious whiffs coming in from the fields).

I’m a single mother with a son who is nearing his teenage phase. Maybe he’s reached it early? Who knows. But he’s awesome and has a personality and sense of humor that I can only attribute to my family. We’re slightly bonkers, we have a wicked sense of humor and we find the positives in every situation. I’m so proud to be his mum and to watch him grow and mature.

Writing was something that I’d always done. I had a teacher in the third grade who always set us the task of writing a story and making it into a book every weekend. After I left school, I kept this up and wrote as often as I could or just plotted out books. This evolved into me taking the plunge and publishing my first book in 2016 and I’ve been typing ever since.

I’m proud to be an Indie Author, and I absolutely love writing out my crazy Providence characters and the more complex ones in my other series’. It doesn’t matter if it’s romantic comedy or something with more suspense – so long as it has a HEA I’ll do it!

I’ve got so many more planned, so the best is yet to come.

DNF at 15%

The hero, who is a sheriff, arrests the heroine, believing she is trespassing a property. He doesn't even let her explain. He just puts the handcuffs on her.

Then, while keeping her at detention, he learns that she is the new owner of that house but still he doesn't set her free. He thinks he likes her and he says he will keep her in jail until she agrees to go out with him.

She says no and he keeps her in a jail cell overnight!!?? WTF!!!???

Are you f*cking kidding me?

There is no coming back or redeeming after such an infuriating act!

And in the morning, she agrees to it! She agrees to go on a date with that jerk instead of suing him for abusing his power!!! How much more stupid can a person get?

Spoilers ahead

With her mom dying of cancer Tabby did an ancestry search looking for other relatives. To her surprise she discovered a sister who she quickly grew to love. When her mom passed Tabby uprooted her life to be with Jose, only to find her sister walking in on her husband cheating on her. After the drama Tabby goes to her newly purchased home and falls asleep on the floor only to end up arrested by the sheriff for breaking into someone's home. While the Sheriff is sexy and she's attracted to him he then refuses to let her out until she agrees to a date with him

Dave is intrigued by the pink haired, tattooed woman in his neighborhood and he can't let her go without a date. His little fireball has to say yes

******

Ok first of all I love the cover! It actually led to my purchasing this book

Now onwards, the first maybe 40% was funny and sweet as the sisters bond and Dave and Tabby do as well. I accepted the brawling seniors, the tussle with the cheating husband and his skank trying to beat up his pregnant wife. I even accepted Dave's abuse of power by keeping Tabby until she agreed to a date with him but it quickly took a speeding train to OTT crazy town and that's where it lost me. The humor degenerated to immaturity, the situations escalated from funny to ridiculous and the romance went from maybe she'll date him to I think I love her in the blink of an eye.

I'm a safety reader at heart but I don't think books such as these are really for me.

No OW/OM drama or cheating
Small separation because Dave kept something from Tabby

Could be better

The story was interesting enough. This was about an art teacher who recently lost her mom to cancer. Tabby had gotten an Ancestry DNA done and had found a half sister from her absent, philandering father. They got close and she moved to be near her sister. Thank goodness she did, because the day Tabby moved in was the day Jose, her sister, found her husband cheating on her with the town skank. The next day as Tabby was laying on the floor in her new house catching up on sleep, the sheriff arrests her for breaking and entering. At the police station, after confirming her story that she purchased the house in question, DB, the sheriff, asks Tabby out and won't release her from her cell until she agrees to go on a date.

This sounds like the state to an awesome book, right? Wrong! The writing wasn't as funny as it should have been, nor as witty. And the dialogue between the characters were kinda boring.

Did I tell you how much I love this author's style of writing?! No? I am pretty sure I have but for those that didn't know.....I FLOVE this author and her style of writing!! I could be friends with all her characters, okay not all of them, like the baddies, I don't want to be friends with them! But you get what I mean??!!
Tabitha is indeed a Fireball! She is appears larger than life, strong, sassy, independent and literally zero f**** given, but mess with her newly found family and all bets are off. She goes into Mama Bear mode. But she also has her vulnerable side.
DB is the local sheriff, taking law and order seriously, he ends up arresting Tabitha when she wades in to protect her pregnant sister.....and that's where the will they won't they starts.
This couple!! I have laughed and I have cried whilst reading this book. My heart has been melted. Go add this to your TBR, please.

Fireball and Handcuffs

I absolutely enjoyed this book!!!! It had me laughing from the beginning all the way through the epilogue what started out as an accidental arrest, turned out to be more than Tabby and Dave saw coming!!

-safe read
-neither virgins but their past aren’t really discussed
-no real ow/om drama between the MC
-no sexual abuse past or present
-epilogue 6 months then 18 months

This was an okay story.. what made me roll my eyes was really why was Tabatha arrested so many times.. like first time was funny and okay meet.. then again and by David's dad and ONCE AGAIN When david was proposing to her.  I did enjoy she got him back and locked him up.  But lord enough of that.

That's why it's a lower rating, it was just a dick move over and over again. Beside that drama I enjoyed the sister bonding between Jose and Tabby.. they were great sister and Tabby was a amazing new aunt.  I also love the friendship Ellis had with David and how all 4 bonded together with the drama Jose had with her asshole ex husband..

Now the drama David kept I saw a mile away and I didnt mind her taking a moment to collect herself she wasnt mad they were "step sibling" just that he lied.  And took FOREVERRR to inform her. Also I loved some of the secondary charas and wanna see their stories.

Low angst, No ow/om drama, slight secondary chara, sexy times, no virgins

Recommend- maybe

Pink!!

Another amazing book by Mary!! I floved everything about this book and it's characters. Still need to proceed with CAUTION could cause spittage or spewing out you're drunk from laughing out loud at the most unexpected moments.

I would recommend reading her Providence Series and Gold series before reading this but it's not necessary. I loved we got glimpses from both these series, it's like getting a bonus and visiting old friends. While we are getting a bunch of new ones too.

Mary has a way of reeling you in from the first page to the last. I'm usually upset because I DON'T want the story to end. Tabby was such an awesome female character from her bright pink hair to the tattoos on her body. And the loyalty and connection she had with her JUST found half sister Jose. When little Olivia joins the family it's wondrous and just perfect.
DB is the big AF sheriff.....well he's instantly attracted to the maybe by chance squatter in the house he checked out. Let's just say handcuffs are used a whole LOT in this book.

We've got drama, a crazy ex, breaking and entering, oh and a crazy munchkin kitty named Katy in the mix. Let's throw in some hot 🔥AF sex scenes too.

And on a side note I loved the meaning behind every tattoo that was had and given during this book.

I cannot wait for Jose and Ellis's book next. Keep them coming please!! I am a one-clicking fangirling reader of Mary's for sure.
I highly recommend this book and all of this author's book considering I've read them all!!

Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis

Steamy and Hilarious Contemporary Romance

Fireball (Cheap Thrills Series Book 1) is filled with humor, drama and passion. I have to admit this cover made me 1-click because it is so alluring and the models are stunningly gorgeous (Tori at @imashortyru12) and Brian Boynton. However, this story drew me in immediately and by Chapter 2 I was hooked on DB, Tabby, Jose and Ellis. This is the perfect summer read as it is light, funny and super sexy.
Sheriff DB finds the most beautiful girl he has ever seen sound asleep in an empty house and what does he do? Arrest her and keep her in jail until she agrees to a date! Tabby is literally sexiness personified and such a sweet person. I liked their relationship-instant chemistry and holy jeez, is the heat factor there in this one. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 There is some drama in this one that really kept the story moving at a nice pace. There was also some sadness involving Tabby dealing with the death of her mother, it was super sweet how they paid tribute to that. And reading Tabby and Jose’s “new” sister relationship was uproarious because those two were so lively and witty.
I highly recommend this book. Also, I am going to be stalking @mooremaryb for Jose and Ellis story because I am 100% confident that it is going to be EVERYTHING!

Tabitha moved to Piersville after finding a half sister through her ancestry DNA results. She was just in time too as her sister is expecting a baby and she just caught her sisters' husband having sex with another woman. As if her day has not gone right from the beginning she is arrested for breaking and entering into her new house by Sheriff Dave Bell.

DB realizes after the fact he made a huge mistake arresting Tabitha but the stunning beauty is safe in her cell and instead of letting her go, he asks her on a date. When she initially refuses DB is fine with that, she can just sit in her cell until she changes her mind. When she does DB is going to prove to her he is the best thing in her life, but there is one little secret he has not shared with Tabitha and it could backfire on him. He has a plan though that includes cuffs and a cell if needed.

Extremely fun read. I liked DB and Tabitha is a hoot. Refreshing series that is filled with unique characters and a ton of humor. I cant wait for the next book, this author continues to impress me.

I looooved the storyline, but. . .

I loved this storyline and can’t wait to read Ellis and Jose’s story; however, somethings were just not believable. Anyone who has ever had a baby, especially the first baby knows that you don’t get to go home within hours of giving birth. Nobody is bending down and jumping behind couches after just giving birth. Some of the other things were so over the top that it wasn’t funny, just annoying. The little boy giving all the important medical info away wasn’t funny. And the staff at the hospital wasn’t professional in that situation either. All the arrests, including the first one was a bit too much. Such an abuse of power. Sometimes I couldn’t tell if an adult wrote the book or a creative teenager. I plan to read the other books when they come out because the storyline was cute.

I wanted a book about sweet, uncomplicated romance where I could watch feelings bloom and people falling in love. That is not this book, btw.
I understand that author wanted to create unique characters with unique relationship. I get what she tried to do ,but it is not what she created. From the start this relationship was cringy and Daves obsession of arresting his love interest every time until she agreed to his demands was just hard to read and accept. All I could think was - power abuse and " sue the shit out of the asshole ". Tabbys reaction wasn't normal either. And , please, the supporting characters finding it all hilarious was just unrealistic. And like that wasn't enough of a turn off, the romance goes from 0 to 100 in couple of pages. There is no blooming romance. There is insta lust and insta love.

So not what I want in my romance reads.

Couldn’t finish. Great idea but mediocre execution

Reasons why I couldn’t finish this book:
1. There were so many grammar and spelling issues - at points I had to stop and try to understand what the author was trying to say.
2. Arresting the female MC just to get a date
3. The MC kept creeping into her back yard
4. Inconsistency with protection. Come on. That is just stupid.

There are many more reasons but I couldn’t take it any more. Fun idea for a book - the way it was executed was not for me.

**The story was enjoyable, and I like that the heroine discovered a half-sister and being a part of them building a relationship and how close they'd already grown, but I found it unnecessary that within the first three chapters, we had to read about THREE DIFFERENT women finding the Hero attractive and the things they'd do to show it. I kept waiting for him to have that impact on EVERY woman he came in contact with as it started to seem like that's where it was going.**

I cannot stress the nuisance of ‘ya’, rather than you. A charming plot of finding love and if at first the answer to your invitation isn’t satisfying, then arresting your potential date until she gives you the proper answer is the next best option.

The relationship between the new sisters engaging in their particular brand of crazy in naming body parts.
“Hmm, friends with the sheriff, now, would that be because he wants to do the dirty with your aunt Tabby? What do you think? You do? The nice Sheriff wants to check your auntie’s oil, yes he does.”
“I’m not entirely certain you’re meant to tell baby's things like that like it’s a fairytale,”
“Well, we could call it completing the jigsaw puzzle. Or dinky tickling. What about doing the dipsy doodle? Or my favorite of all – humpy-squirty.”
“Jesus, will you stop? She’s gonna think fairytales are made about…”
“Paddling up the coochie creek?” she supplied unhelpfully.

Moving to a new town is never easy, especially when it’s so you can bond with the half-sister you never knew existed. Tabitha Newton took a leap of faith and got a job at the school in Piersville as an art teacher and made an offer on the pretty little house that she’d seen online. What she never expected to find when she arrived was her sister Jose coming home from her prenatal appointment and finding her husband Larry White boinking some ho on the day she’d driven into town. It also wasn’t her fault that the ho in question, Rita, had turned psycho on her and then getting arrested for no reason by the Sheriff, Dave Bell. She’d only been in Piersville for eighteen hours and was already burnt out. Larry drank to excess, and DB suspected him of using other substances. That’s not the sort of things you wanted around a baby. He was an immature, selfish, irrational, sex obsessed, tiny d*cked piece of sh*t.

The fault laid with the soon to be ex-husband’s wandering penis. He even tried to take anything of value after she’d told him to leave and the woman tried to attack her sister. Few people would dream that the first time they met their half-sister – one which they’d only found out about a few months previously – it would go down like that.

DB was called to check on a house with a suspicious car in the driveway by a concerned neighbour and stumbled across a stranger sprawled across the living room floor. One accidental arrest, a trip to the station, and a friendly ‘getting to know you’ interrogation later, he asked her out before she could find out who his stepsister was; she never expected to be arrested in her new home or to be arrested because she refused his invitation, twice.

He’d managed to persuade Tabby to go on a date with him by any means necessary, including arresting her and placing her in a cell until she agreed.
Tabitha’s a little old-fashioned, being arrested and interrogated wasn’t her idea of romance, but everyone makes mistakes so she gave him a second chance. Until she discovered his great reveal  – well, more when Rita revealed their connection.

Larry and DB’s stepsister Rita breached their security system planning to abscond with the newborn. Doctor Douche had come into Jose’s room to discharge her following Olivia’s birth, he’d had some oral encouragement from Rita, agreeing to help them take the baby. Their plan had been for him to go in and take the paperwork they had given Jose to complete, take the forms the hospital would complete afterward, and then they would change some details and register the baby as theirs. They did it out of spite and in retaliation for Tabby tying Rita up with a yellow bra and having her arrested, and for Larry being hit with a breast pump, kicked out of the house, and arrested as well. The doctor hadn’t counted on DB being present, and when he’d realised that he was there for Jose, he’d had to come up with Plan B, which gave him away.

Jose’s mum, Wylda Harrison was a self-centred, excuse of a mother. Where Tabby had been blessed, she’d been cursed. The first time she’d heard her in action was the day it had all gone down with Larry and Rita. Larry rang to whinge as Rita attacked his pregnant wife, that he was going to be carless and homeless and that she rang the police on him. Wylda had rung Jose to demand she let him take things of value so that he wasn’t left without anything. She’d even suggested that Jose move out and rent a place, ignoring the fact that Jose paid for the house and everything they had because Larry was too lazy trying to find his vocation in life. Her last bit of motherly advice was his feelings of being left out because she was having a baby, and it would take him time to adjust to not having her full attention on him, so of course he’d try to find ways to get it.
Fortunately, the vile creature lived in Cabo with her latest boy toy, a twenty-one-year-old Mexican man she’d met while she was on holiday with her girlfriends. Rumour was the whole group had engaged in some nighttime sports, and that she’d decided she had nothing in the US so she would stay behind with him. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

It’s fair to say DB has a predilection for handcuffing his pink-haired fireball and hauling her off to a cell. He did this three times, most recently when she refused his marriage proposal.

This writer made a common grammatical error such as discrete rather than discreet. Discrete means "separate." Discreet means "unobtrusive".

“I breathed in a bit deeper than was normal, getting as much of it into my system as discretely as possible”.

“If they said they wouldn’t have, they’d be lying. Just like they’d be lying if they said they hadn’t already done the discrete eye skim over the crotch bulge in his pants to see if they could figure out a measurement.”

”I’d thought I was being discrete, but apparently the big bad sheriff saw through it because during a break he’d leaned down and murmured in my ear, “He’s good enough for her, but f@#$ me if you aren’t adorable trying to suss him out.”

I applauded the writer underscoring vernaculars and the proper use of being dragged, NOT drug.
“Then, she drug me…”
“It’s dragged.”
“You see, that’s what she keeps doing. I’m shook I tell you, shook!”
“You can’t even get that right. It’s shaken”.
I’d gotten a call about two women fighting, and when I’d arrived they’d been rolling around the grass trying to get the other one in a headlock. That wasn’t that unusual, until you took into account that one was eighty-six and the other was eighty-eight. Oh, and they were at a retirement home surrounded by old men cheering them on and placing bets.
“I speak English, ok? I don’t need you to correct me or tell me I’m not speaking it right.”
“I said it because you’re not”.
“This is Texas, and excuse me, but we still speak English in Texas, do we not?”

Minor misunderstanding due to DB’s lack of full disclosure, namely Rita being his stepsister. Tabby despite her anger, eventually relents.

Read through chapter 8. Very boring, annoying and irritating story.I wanted to discuss this book with other readers who gave 5,4 and 3 stars because I honestly didn’t see any appeal. The romance and interaction between the main characters were almost nonexistent. At 48% absolutely nothing happens between them besides him arresting her a couple times for stupid things and a night swim where they spoke A LITTLE BIT. This story is more about the new found sister and her baby and I would never thought I would feel irritated by babies in a book. I actually love them, but this author had the ability to make me hate it here. And the tentative hand at jokes/comedy: big failure. I didn’t think anything funny. Jokes about breastfeeding, ridiculous. About nipples: ridiculous. The sister looked like she was not very smart. At least with the baby thing. Anyway, I never found the romance I was looking for in the book like it made me believe it in the blurb. It was misleading, I don’t want read almost 50% of a book about 2nd irrelevant characters. I want to read about the mcs, so I am cutting my losses and making peace with myself about having spent $5 in this.

This was a cute romance.

This story is about a woman named Tabitha. She moves to a new town so she can bond with her half-sister she never knew existed from the ancestry DNA test she took. She got a job at a school in Piersville as an art teacher and made an offer on a house that she saw online. She ends up finding her sister catching her husband cheating on her and then she gets arrested for no reason by officer Dave Bell.

Tabitha is a sucker for tattoos and muscles and a guy with a badge and gun. His name is Dave Bell. Being arrested, interrogated and tortured wasn’t romantic at all in her opinion. Dave Bell wouldn’t let Tabitha go until she said yes to going out with him. She gives him a second chance. Then she finds out that he has a secret that he’s been keeping and who he was related to. Fool her once shame on her, fool her twice shame on you. Dave goes to check on a house with a suspicious car in the driveway and who does he stumble into….Tabitha. One accidental arrest , a trip to the station and a friendly getting to know you interrogation later before she finds out who his stepsister is. Tabitha intrigues him and he wants to get to Tabitha. I liked reading this book.

"Fireball" is a vulgar, funny and filthy piece of fluff. If you want something light with a lot of snark, minimal plot, and energetic sex (eventually!) your search stops here.
Dave's the Sheriff. Tabitha is the new girl in town - he promptly arrests her, mistakenly, for Breaking and Entering and then, when she's released, promptly puts her back in a cell her for refusing to go on a date with him.
There's plenty of good one-liners and a couple of secondary tales - Tabitha's newly-found sister Jose and her abusive husband, Dave's stepmother and stepsister, but when all is said and done it's a love story.
2.5 Stars moved up to 3 Stars because it was very amusing.

Good read

Took a bu5 to get into the book but once I did was really good. Loved the snark of both sisters and their dialogue was really funny. Dave was a hoot working within the confines of his job. Very nice epilogue to tidy book up and also highlight the update on Jose and Ellis.
