The New Keto-Friendly South Beach Diet: Rev Your Metabolism and Improve Your Health with the Latest Science of Weight Loss

Rate this book
Boost your metabolism and burn 100-500 more calories per day by putting your body into fat burning mode with a new science-backed update to this proven diet. The New Keto-Friendly South Beach Diet combines the good fats and healthy carbs of the world-famous heart-healthy program with the advanced nutrition science of keto-all in a doctor-approved plan that is easier than strict keto diets.

The original South Beach Diet defined the cutting edge of healthy weight loss. Now the creator of the classic plan combines his signature diet with the latest, most cutting-edge advances in healthy eating that are the basis for the ketogenic diet.
With a new emphasis on good carbs, healthy fats, and quality proteins, The New Keto-Friendly South Beach Diet takes the powerful fundamentals of the original South Beach Diet and adds the fat-burning principles of keto. Dr. Arthur Agatston cuts through the confusion around keto and low carb diets and gives readers a step-by-step 28-day eating plan that increases satisfaction, decreases appetite, and makes it easy to lose weight and keep it off. He also explains why strict ketosis is not necessary to achieve results; the effectiveness of intermittent fasting; and the relationship between yo-yo-dieting and sugar addiction.
This plan offers the benefits of keto and low carb without the pitfalls. As this new book reveals, you can boost your metabolism and put your body safely into fat-burning mode with a diet that's more flexible and more sustainable than traditional keto. And that's not all: in addition to long-term weight loss, the South Beach Keto-Friendly plan can boost mental sharpness, reduce inflammation and pain, increase your energy, and improve diabetes and heart health. Includes around 100 recipes, full-color photos, and an easy-to-follow 28-day meal plan.

I am not giving this book any stars yet because I have not tried it for any length of time. Dr Agatston is my favorite author of diet books. I have read them all and followed them with great success over the years. I am looking forward to this new tweak and I will be happy to give it lots of stars if it helps me to stay fit in middle age. I am hopeful.

My rating is based on the information that this book provides as well as for the meal plans.
I cannot talk about the results of this diet or its recipes, as I have not started it yet or even tried the meals, but tonight I will try one of the recipes, the Moroccan Lentil Stew.
But I’m definitely looking forward to trying this diet. I just need that motivation.
I was a huge fan of the South Beach Diet, which I follow for ten years, and during that time I was able to keep the weight off (from 204 pounds to 157) until I was 47 years old (at that age my waistline was 29 inches). Next month I will turn 56 I’m now over 207 lbs.
Unfortunately it’s a lot harder to loose weight as you get older, but it is possible.

Good as always

I’ve bought several of Dr Agatston’s books over the years. Knowledge changes and so do the books he offers. As always, excellent, well presented, helpful information.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I thought this book was a cookbook. When I saw that it was a diet, I read the plan anyway. That being said.....This review is for the CONTENT of the book, as I am not on this diet.

This plan seems like a more accessible approach to Keto than most books I've read. While I do not know if this is good or bad, replacing empty carbs with good carbs is always sound advice. I also appreciated Dr Agatston's honesty regarding his own issues with weight & sugar. (It's nice to know Drs are human too.) All in all, if I were to try a ketogenic diet, this is the type of plan I'd be inclined to try.

Good information. Looking forward to giving this version of the Keto lifestyle a try (because it really IS a lifestyle... not just a diet). But, Dr. Agatston REALLY needs to dial back the scientific/medical terminology in his writing. Good lord... it took me forever to get through Chapters 3 and 4. It seems that it was just those two chapters, but they read like an 8th grade American history book 🙄😴. I hope that if there is a second edition to this book, Agatston and his editors will write the book using more layman's terms.

Clear and compelling writer

Good science and research, as in previous books. Inspirational anecdotes. But, I was slightly disappointed with the recipes. Still a lot of gray area figuring out what to eat, because I may be a little pickier with my tastes and habits. Anyway sufficiently informative to launch me on my keto journey. I do recommend this book to put one's head in the right direction for embarking on this lifestyle.

Good book. Well worth it.

This is a good addition to the original books, updated. I have been following this for a week. I have given 4 stars because some of the recepies need translation into British English ie broccoli rabe (tender stem broccoli). How much is a bar of chocolate?

Like the update on nutrition science and what that translates into for the South Beach diet. I may bump this up later once I’ve had a chance to practice its advice and try some of the recipes. (3 stars = recommended)

"Keto-Friendly" does not mean Keto

Does have some good recipes

Very informative

As a type 2 diabetic I found this book very informative regarding the science of insulin resistance and the reasons why some foods are worse than others. It’s a pity there doesn’t seem to be any links to the scientific studies he refers to but I guess these can be googled.
The science is very easy to understand.

A disciple of the original South Beach Diet, I’ve always wondered if the creator would update the original plan. As it turns out, with the increasing popularity of the keto diet, the South Beach diet has evolved to incorporate a keto-friendly approach. I think this new plan is certainly doable, even though it’s longer than the original diet, and I think it can be good to switch things up and evolve as new data comes out. My rating for the book isn’t for the diet as much as the content. It may be more fitted for a nutrition expert because I found the rhetoric to be a bit dense, albeit informative.

Great science behind the concepts in this book. I have never been as fan of keto, but this is a plan that, for the most part makes sense, and having a 28 day meal plan and recipes to try this out makes this so much easier to implement.

Really interesting to read the science behind where the South Beach program comes from. I did like the original book the best but this was interesting. The program doesn't seem as restrictive as the original and the recipes look really good.

Very informative and has some great recipe and me menu ideas. Best part is the health and medical information that makes up the first half of the book.
